September 2011 - The Planning Has Started!!!

Since we drive down I pack all our food but the kids will be begging for snacks everytime we need gas or stop to use the bathrooms. So we started "kindness jars." When I see my kids doing something especially nice for someone they get change in their kindness jar and when we drive to Florida (and back again) they can buy themselves some snacks that cheap-o mom and dad won't.

Just made our one and only ADR--Tony's at MK! Haven't tried it yet. DH requested it and I'm excited about it, too. Being an Italian and a vegetarian, pasta and I are good friends!

The rest of our meals will be on the Disney Dream, but it feels weird not to have multiple ADRs to scramble for!

Last year, we told the girls that we weren't buying a lot of "extras", but that if they chose, they could bring $15 out of their piggy banks to buy anything they wanted, without having much input from DH and I. I was amazed at how careful they were with their shopping... the only thing I told them DH and I wuold veto is if they wanted a ton of candy. In the end, DD 5 bought herself a little Princess beauty shop set, and DD 8 bought herself one of those Polly Pocket style playsets (the princess, a few rubbery outfits, and other little characters). They both felt very grown up with getting to pick out something with their own money. DH and I bought them each a little something on our last day there (a bracelet for one, and a necklace for the other), but we really tried to keep it minimal. They already have enough "stuff" @ home. :)

I don't necessarily believe in an allowance, as I feel it's every family member's duty to help out with taking care of our home. But, I was thinking about surprising each girl with a Disney gift card on our way to the airport... $25 at the most. I'll have to come up with some way for them to earn it, without them knowing that I'm doing this. Hmmmm... :rolleyes1

ADR's are done and got everything we wanted (Thanks to my Dreams agent :thumbsup2 )

Wow- we must be super frugal. We gave the kids each $15 gift cards last time and DS9 didn't spend a cent. We ended up spending his gift card and giving him the $15 to spend on Legos. DD7 would buy everything in sight, so we try to avoid letting her shop. We do buy each kid a pin of their choice. Our kids don't even ask for souvenirs, they know what the answer will be. If they want to spend their own money, they can, but they never do. I guess for us it's all about the experience, we'd rather save the money for future trips. Now I feel cheap!

We don't spend much on souveniers either. My girls ask sometimes but when we say no they (usually) accept it with no wailing or gnashing of teeth. We will buy them a few things but souveniers are usually 50-100 total for us. (I bought a cup and a watch for myself last time which pushed the total close to $100.) It's not because we raised some awesome kids that only have, like, 3 toys or something. They have a ton of toys, way too much really. I just prefer buying it when it's a big discount.

Wow! :goodvibes Lots of new September travelers to our thread today. :welcome: I have everyone added! :yay:

I'd love to reply to others, but I just can't sit here. I threw my back out today and in a lot of pain.

Oh no! So sorry to hear about your back! Feel better soon...

:flower3:

Welcome to all the new September travelers!

to all the new September travelers!

L-Harper, I hope you are feeling better soon.

This is what I love about our little corner of the DIS! Everyone has a different souvenir budget for their family and no one judges anyone else. Each family will have a wonderful time with whatever their budget is.:)

So jealous! I cant wait to make my ADRS! I still have another 19 days to go :rolleyes1 I love your choices by the way.. we are hoping to eat at almost all of the same ones!

Booked out trip to the Pop for a second year in a row. Going the 17-24. Celebrating going to Disney after 11+ months of not being there!
P.S. Jetblue has opened dates past Labor Day and we got much better prices than SW or Delta (when you factored in $25/bag each way for Delta)

My princess is here! She was born at 5:01 after one and a half pushes! She's 8 lbs 5 oz and 20 inches and a perfect doll. the only thing they had to do was break my water when I got to 9 cm, but other than that I did it on my own!

I haven't been on for a few days so sorry I'm so far behind, but congratulations!!

I've ate at Tony's once and loved it!!

:welcome: to all of the new September travelers! I have all of you added to the first post.

YAY for all of the ADR's today!!! :dance3: I can't believe that we are all getting into the 180 mark. Not too much longer for the rest of us who aren't quite to our ADR day yet!

So, what is this about Delta charging $25/bag each way?!?! :scared1: We have not flown in a very LONG time. I need some info on this.

My back is still terrible. I'm going to the chiropractor later today and tomorrow. Something has to give because I can't even bend over. I was picking my 3 year old up a little bit ago and I dropped him. He was fine, but he just wouldn't put his legs down and I couldn't hold his weight anymore. Hopefully its way better tomorrow evening after the chiro a couple times.

SO HAPPY!! Just made our deposit. Staying at the Poly 9/21-9/28, Castle View--never had Castle View. Just over 6 months. Just the man and I--no kids. Can't beleive it's almost time to make ADRs!

Made our ADR's on Sunday morning! We are traveling 9/2-9/10

I was able to get Chef Mickeys dinner
Lecellier lunch
Ohana dinner
Teppan edo dinner
Boma breakfast
Sci-Fi dinner

I kept one day open because not sure what all of our park plans are.
The kids are 13 and 12 and wanted nothing to do with characters until now. So we are really looking forward to Chef Mickeys. We havent been to a character meal since they were 5 and 6. This is the last year I will take them out of school because next year my oldest starts high school. We are so excited about this trip!!

I can't wait to make my ADRs finally, I have about 3 weeks to go.
I'm anxiously waiting for the Oct calendar to come out so I can confirm my parks and restaraunts choices.
We're going Sept 29 - Oct 8 staying at POP

That is awesome!!

Well on the good night I paid off our pop reservation with our tax refund. Now that we upgraded I owe another 750.00. Really hoping CBR is worth the extra money. I do have lots of time to pay that off not really worried about that. But I hate to spend the money and wish we were at POP.

I had a disney sleepless last night and wasn't sure we made the right choice? My main concern is the Foodcout. Lets face it POP's is the best IMO lots of choices. CBR is lacking big time and we are on the QSDP. Maybe the pool will make up for it.

Welcome to all those that just joined us.

I just checked AirTran again.. $89 one way and $104 back! :scared1:

WHY didn't I book when it was $69 both ways???

I am so sorry for those of you who have to deal with airfare. I'm so glad we don't have to mess with that at all.

I hate that the airlines charge for bags now. We are flying to FLL for a cruise in 25 days and I'm such a cheapskate that I'm trying to figure out how to work the bags. Unfortunately, for the 4 of us, I'm pretty sure we'll have to check 3 bags. Yuck!

Hi everyone! I'm new here. My DH and I are going to Disney Sept 10-18 with DxDP and staying at POFQ.
Can't wait to make my ADRs on Monday morning. Hopefully I can get everything I want!
