September 2011 - The Planning Has Started!!!

We did the DxDP in December. I think if you plan on eating at a lot of Signature dining places (2 credits) or if you are ok with using some of your dining credits for QS meals, then DxDP during F&W festival is a must do, since you can use snack credits at the kiosks (right?). We found for our family it was too much food during a busy season because it took too much time away from the parks, and since the parks were crowded... we got less done. We seriously spent up to 2 hours at many meals, and some days we had 3 meals! We ended up canceling a few ADRS and using our extra credits to get DS2 meals, but we still ended up with 4 or 5 meal credits leftover that we weren't able to use. Of course in a slower season, it's easier since there are fewer and shorter lines. The problem is the DDP is just so much less stuff, no app, no mug, only 1 snack... it's just not the right configuration at least for our family (unless of course it's free, then we'll take it :lmao:) For me and DS we are on the QSDP (for free) and for our situation it works much better to do that and pay OOP for a couple TS meals. I have now experienced all 3 plans, and I will say since the DDP becomes less and less of a value every year, I probably won't ever pay for that plan again.

Another note on the DxDP is that when we added up all the food costs, we probably would have saved a little money even if we had paid the full amount (we upgraded from FD) but we also would have ordered less if we had been paying OOP and we probably would have wasted less food... so unless you really are going to eat a 3 course meal at EVERY meal, you might just want to consider paying OOP for your meals.

We've only done the DxDP, neither of the others. We've always paid full price for it as well and still feel like we save money over OOP. I know we COULD save money OOP, but that would require eating less TS meals. lol. I never go out to eat at home, so when I go on vacation, I take full advantage of it! But, if I went OOP, I'd be trying to skimp and save every penny and just eating QS and such. I basically "force" myself to do the dining plan so that I know it's paid for in advance and we can just go and enjoy ourselves without worrying about the bill at each meal.

Wow, I've been doing alot reading on DIS! Thanks to all the DIS family for all the helpful info!

Change in plans, here's the deal, we are now booked at Pop Century. Still staying on property September 4-16.

We are also doing the QS dining plan. This we be our 1st time trying a dining plan (1st for everything @ WDW). I thought I'd start slow & easy. Besides I don't know how to time & plan ADRs so that I wouldn't be stressed out about making/missing our reservations.

Btw, I'd be interested in buying a button too. It sounds like a fun idea. Oh, I also read a little on another thread about decorating the window, out side door, & interior of your room. I thought that might be fun for the kids since we're celebrating birthdays. Does anyone know if Pop would care as long as I'm careful?

We'll be at POP same time as you are (3rd-8th)! I think we are gonna decorate our window or door this time too!:cheer2:

Welcome to all the new September travelers!!:yay: This is a fun group!

LHarper- I read your update on the buttons! Can't wait to see what your friend can come up with!:goodvibes

After having problems with the WDW dining reservations system online for an hour I finally gave up and called when they opened. I got everything I wanted right when I wanted or very close to it.

9/10 Chef Mickeys
9/11 Yak N Yeti, Raglan Road
9/12 Le Cellier, Cape May Cafe
9/13 Ohana
9/14 Whispering Canyon Cafe
9/15 Biergarten
9/16 Raglan Road

Yum!

WooHoo I got my Ohana dinner. So everyone can make their ADRs for Ohana now. I got very aggravated at 1st. I woke up a little earlier to make the ressies and I could not get it to confirm so after cursing at the stupid website, I took a breather and went to my moms house to drop off the kids and I tried it again on her computer and BAM it worked. WooHoo.
Now the wait for September 10th grr

Glad you got your 'Ohana reservation! :thumbsup2

I checked and no one has an arrival date later than Sept 29th so we are ALL under 200 days now :woohoo:

 Woo hoo!

Welcome to all the new September travelers!

Got all my ADRs done! I had a late night so actually set my alarm for 6:30, but I just woke up on my own at 6:01. Guess my subconscious knew what it wanted to be doing. :rotfl:

9/11 - 'Ohana dinner
9/12 - Sci-Fi lunch
9/13 - CRT breakfast (8:05, :yay:)
9/14 - T-Rex dinner
9/15 - San Angel Inn lunch
9/16 - WCC dinner
9/17 - Les Chefs de France lunch

I'm a little worried about 9/13, because we plan on doing MNSSHP that night, but I figure if I wake my girls up super early for this CRT ressies, my oldest might actually take a nap in the afternoon. We will see.

All of these are new to us except San Angel and Sci-Fi!

Glad you got everything you wanted. :cool1:

What a great thread! Thank you LHarper for referring me to this thread!

I thought I would introduce myself and my family. I'm Becky (a librarian, in case you couldn't tell:goodvibes). My husband (computer techie guy) and my son (four years old now, but will be five when we go on our trip) will be going on our first WDW family vacation in September! Our dates are Sept. 17 through the 24th. We're staying at Port Orleans, French Quarter. We've booked during free dining, so we are on the DDP. I am super excited about our trip!!!
We will be there the same week. Except we arrive 9/17 and leave 9/26.

Have fun planning.

I really need to get over here and start posting more! I read all the time, but am a little shy, even over the internet :)

gah is anyone else constantly going back and forth? Changing their dining and resort reservations in their head?? I don't know if I will ever be happy :D

I have 15 days until I make my ADRs and I just feel like I'm wasting the ones we are doing with our dining plan (only have it for 4 nights of our 9 night stay).

We are staying 4 nights POP, 5 nights Poly and this is our tentative plan.

Sept 28th-DTD, T-Rex Dinner (OOP)
Sept 29th-DHS, '50's Prime Time Diner dinner (TS credit)...what a waste..but we love it, and we are doing Fantasmic so being at DHS makes the most sense.
Sept 30th-MNSHP, 1900 Park Fare dinner (worth the TS credit..our dinner was almost $300 if we had to pay out of pocket in Nov)
October 1st-AK, Tusker House Breakfast (TS credit) again feels like a bit of a waste...a breakfast. Character one, but still a breakfast.
October 2nd-Epcot, snacking around the world for the F&W festival, using our snack credits, moving to the Poly, dinner at 'Ohana (seems worth the TS credit).

For the rest of the trip I want to try Kona for dinner, and DD really wants to go to Chef Mickey's. So these will be OOP.

Do you have any other recommendations for our DHS day or AK? I don't mind paying OOP for tusker house or 50's Prime time (we could do lunch), but when what for dinner...with still making it in time for Fantasmic?

lol this has been such a nightmare that I've been considering getting rid of the Poly part of our stay and just remaining at POP to get the dining plan.

Hey girly! Where have you been never mind I know where you have been. LOL We just moved back to POP. We may upgrade if FD id re-released but I couldn't stomach paying the extra 750.00 at CBR for 10 days since gas and oil are getting so high.

In all honesty I would love to do the Poly some day seriously. But I would have to go with the dining plan and stay at POP. Plus I'm not a fan of packing up and leaving to un plack. How about a moderate?

Your adr's are great to me. We added the QSDP and our paying Op for
T-rex Reese is a dino lover.
Tusker House Breakfest
Norway Princess Breakfest this one is a maybe since I'm not sure I want to do 3 OP and have all those qs credits wasted. But we could use the credits for the girls for breakfest instead of using snacks. DH and I don't do breakfest so we are hoping to get the lateset breakfest asr's possible. But then we will have a ton of snacks left over. WE only had 6 snacks a day last year this year we have 8. Are average even getting bottled water was 4 maybe 5 a day tops.

I would have a hard time letting go of the rest of the free dining and would stay at Pop, but if you don't, using a TS for a CM dinner would be more cost effective than say, TH which you could do OOP after your free dining is over. You could do it instead of TRex the first night and do TRex a different day. I am however, a cheap skate so I would be all about saving money, and I know for a lot of people that is NOT what a vacation is about.

You can find the upgrade costs right here. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2534992
Thanks for the info.

My girls are crazy. They would never go to bed if we didn't make them. We got free dining and I think it was about about $600-$700 to make it deluxe for the 10 days. We booked it so long ago now I forget.
That's great that your kids can hang on vacation. Gives you a lot more options when planning which is nice.

Got all my ADRs done!

:woohoo:

Anyone else doing BBB? I am pretty sure I read that you need a credit card to book it. I do not have one, do you think I could just pay for it instead? Same with PL.

I made our ADRs this morning! :woohoo:

9/11 Chef Mickey's
9/12 Garden Grill
9/13 Ohana
9/14 Sci-Fi
9/15 Boma
9/16 Whispering Canyon
9/17 Via Napoli

This is subject to change since I can't ever make up my mind! :rotfl:

Geez, you guys have been busy!!

I am so tired of being sick! Ugh! I'm at work today, but I still feel like I got hit by a truck.

We make our ADRs on Sunday! Can't wait!!!

Thank you! And I know - Ohana is definitely a popular one... but we absolutely love it!

Everybody's ADR's look great! Glad everyone seems to be getting what they want :woohoo:

I make mine on Thursday :cool1: I was only planning on making a couple but DH and I keep tossing around the idea of adding the regular dining plan onto the first part of our stay, so we'll see. And we already purchased 1 Disney gift card to pay for our meals for the second part of our stay at the BC so that makes me feel better! I know I'm better off just making ressies we might want now and cancelling later if we decide not to do them.

218 Days for me the October Traveler but September Thread Wannabe :rotfl:

lol this has been such a nightmare that I've been considering getting rid of the Poly part of our stay and just remaining at POP to get the dining plan.

I do not know what is harder to decide upon, the resort or the ADR's.....if only I could go for 2 weeks then maybe

I have never done split stay but the whole thought of picking up and moving to a new resort mid stay does not excite me , it takes me a couple of days just to learn my way around a resort and then having to move is not something I want to do.

Most people say they rather do more days than less at a Deluxe but I am the opposite, I would rather stay at the poly for a day or two longer and shorten my overall trip dropping POP

I lost 2 days when we switched over to October because of higher rack rates and a smaller discount , I planned all the places we wanted to eat based on us having 24 TS credits and now am trying to plan for just 18 TS instead. It is crazy I am already planning in my mind that we can do the places we have to skip next trip of course that could be a while off still

I wouldn't consider self a Signature Restaurant person ether. But we did the regular DDP last year and I felt like we wanted to do more meals. I think I would go for your new plan. Sounds good. :thumbsup2

DH and I do want to try more places this trip I am even starting to consider very seriously not dong Fanstasmic! so we can do one more place in Epcot or switching from Brown Derby to Mama Melrose to have an additional credit :confused3

We've only done the DxDP, neither of the others. We've always paid full price for it as well and still feel like we save money over OOP. I know we COULD save money OOP, but that would require eating less TS meals. lol. I never go out to eat at home, so when I go on vacation, I take full advantage of it! Exactly why we are trying the DxDP this trip. It will be the first time ever using a DP but the freedom to pick and choose without looking at prices plus having it all paid for in advance it just too tempting.

To make the tipping painless I have started each trip I make to the grocery store, taking $20 cash back and putting it aside for tipping & other expenses during our trip, by time of our trip it will be like an envelope of found money. :)

Congrates on getting the ADR's you wanted.

San Angel is one of the places I am on the fence about for this trip, I have wanted to eat there since our first tip back in '89 but we just never have :sad2:
I am guessing it is one of your favorites since you are returning to it? What do you like about it I haver read mixed reviews. I love  the atmosphere, not sure about the food :confused3

She is actually booked with the kids free promo at pop. But then has a room only for the Poly using the 40% discount. So she is getting the tickets with her first package. But no dining with the Poly. I'm not sure that makes a diffrence or not? But I'm with you stay at pop and just do the dining for the entire stay.
