September 2011 - The Planning Continues! (2nd Thread)

What do you guys think about taking a toddler to a movie theater (bear in mind we'd do a matinee and it's a small city only about 35K people).
We bring our 2 year old and, although it can be a process, this is what we do:

1) We don't sit down until the movie is about to start because once our child is seated, it starts the "clock" on how long she will be able to last. Remember that previews run until about 10 minutes after the movie start time, so we try not to sit down until all the previews are over. In the meantime, we let her play with any arcade games in the lobby (not with real money, but just letting her move the controls around or sit in a racecar) or just walk around somewhere. If you don't have another adult traveling with you, don't forget to reserve your seats in the theater with a coat or other object.

2) Bring a booster seat! We bring a booster seat, strap it down to the chair, and then strap the child in. Although she doesn't last in the chair the whole time, the longer the better. Once she insists on getting out, we know it is close to her reaching her limit for watching the movie.

3) Food is key! Our child stays occupied with a bag of popcorn and a drink for a long time. You may also want to have a second snack (hidden) on hand, to pull out when attention fades.

4) Also, make sure all potty breaks are taken care of beforehand and be prepared in case a potty break needs to be taken during the movie.

Those are great ideas. DD loves the movies and started going at 2 because she had a really long attention span. I remember taking her to see Curious George and the rapt fascination on her face during the whole film.

DS is not so focused, but Cars, well that's special to him and getting to see Mater on the big screen is a *big* deal.

I appreciate the advice!

Just wanted to pop in to say hi!!!

They just announced at work that they would be monitoring our internet use, so I've been trying to stay away as much as possible while at my desk. Once they come out with the first month's results, I'm sure everyone will relax a bit.

We honestly think it's a good thing since the customer service manager is on her computer all day, every day shopping. I just thank goodness that I'm not in that department!! lol

We are really getting excited about September!!! Less than a month and we'll be at double digits!!! Yay!

Just changed my ressie! Instead of the villa I reserved two rooms club level for my family and my girlfriend's family. I'm not telling my friend I've changed the ressie! I'm absorbing the costs and hopefully she will be pleasantly surprised. Only 131 days to go and we will be at AKL! Yeah!

I would be pleasantly surprised for sure!!! Where do I find a friend like you? ;)

How exciting...

Great tips for taking a toddler to the movies. I am going back and forth about taking Alice to Winnie-the-Pooh but she'll be only 21 months so that might be a little young yet.

We had a horrible day. Alice had her first febrile seizure today and I was stuck in traffic on the highway so had to call 911 and we went to the ER in the ambulance and were there for a couple of hours. It was really scary for me and Alice was just terrified the whole time as she slowly recovered. She was back to normal by late afternoon. I just put her to bed and for her it's like it never happened but I am needing some time to recover!

It's scary, though I have been in Alice's position. I know waking up to people in ur face and asking questions your brain can't process really is annoying. So disoriented which is why she probably was upset. It makes ya tired too. Glad she is doing well!!

Oh how scary!!! I am so sorry! But I am glad she is okay tonight.

I'm still here!!! Really, I am!! :surfweb: However, I haven't been on here in over a week at least.....maybe longer?! I cannot even imagine how many pages behind I am. I just had to buckle down and get these last couple weeks of my classes out of the way. Then I'll have the whole summer to DIS!!! :cool1: Just didn't want anyone to think I fell off the planet.....if you even noticed I was gone in the first place, LOL!! :rotfl:

Besides school, my son dislocated his knee last week in soccer....and then we found out there are a couple small fractures there as well. I've been busy driving him back and forth to school, etc. since he can't walk real well. I even had to mow my own lawn!!! :scared1: His knee is healing nicely and hopefully when he goes back to the ortho surgeon in a couple weeks he'll be clear for soccer again. He spent his 16th birthday (Tuesday) at the orthopedic surgeon's office, getting the news that he not only had the patella dislocation, but he ALSO had some other shifting bones in the knee and small fractures. Lovely....

Hope everyone is doing well! I will check back in when I can! Finals are done next Wednesday!! Woo hoo!!

Bork Bork Bork.....saw your post about Alice's febrile seizure when I logged on to post this. Scary for momma's, but you'd be amazed at how many little ones go through that on a regular basis. It's just the body's way of reacting to the fever dropping quickly. Hope she's feeling better and you are getting some much needed relaxation!!

Amy--I missed ya:hug: I was gonna send ya a PM , making sure you were ok..:rotfl: I mean really no DIS'ing:rotfl2: I am happy for you that U'll have the summer to DIS:thumbsup2 I am sorry to hear about ur son. Happy 16th:confused3 I know unfortunately that injures come easy with soccer. My cousin plays and had lots of knee issues, my DD(7) likes to play and the coach wanted her for travel but we just didn't wanna commit this early, plus we committed to dance comp when DD(11) was 4 so I know the committment and I don't wanna start something I am not sure is her thing for sure. She loves swimming and I like that option better:thumbsup2

As for me--I started working for the summer. It's been ok. stinks to sit thru training when u have done the job and know most things. I hope the weather works to my advantage. I need good tips for Disney!!!!
Well I hope everyone is good. I hope to make good tips this month so I can get my MNSSHP tickets!! Off to get the kids on the bus for school!!

Morning all! :goodvibes

So sorry to hear about the kids getting sick/injuries! It really is the worst for us moms :sad1:

Amy, good luck on your finals! :wizard:

A week until the new Pirate's movie comes out :cool1: DH and I can't wait to go see it! We wanted to go to the midnight showing on the 19th but it's too hard with the kids(finding a babysitter, etc) so we're going on the 20th. I'm really excited to see it! Anyone else going opening weekend?

A group of GFs and I are going opening night! Even though it's very unDisneylike, I LOVE Johnny Depp as a dirty pirate. I've followed him since 21 Jumpstreet, but Captain Jack Sparrow is superfine. My DH finds it amusing, since he's such a clean cut guy!:rotfl:

Just booked our mommy/daughter trip and flights for Sept. 19-24 at Pop Century!!!!! :cool1::banana::yay::woohoo:

Then I realized it's Friday the 13th! I'm already a nervous wreck as it is! :scared:

Oh well! Now off to book my ADR's! :cloud9:

Hey all,

Just over 4 months to go now... we're buying our MNSSHP tickets next week for Sept 27th - is that the same night your crew is going Michelle?? :cool1: gonna try printing out the new eticket since it sounds like the actual tickets aren't fancy or anything and they charge $25 to ship them to Canada... I can think of many other ways to spend 25 bucks in Disney (churros, ice cream, churros, cinnamon buns, churros... lol :thumbsup2

Haven't been on in a while either - my dh's grandmother passed away on the weekend, my younger sister ended up getting her gall bladder out unexpectedly, and we got a new van - and that was all in a week - I soooo need my vacay!! :worship:

I got my new patterns a couple days ago - can't wait to start working on some new outfits for the girls :) gonna even give making a princess dress a whirl - wish me luck :wizard:

Just stoping in to say hi. Trip is paid in full I owed 10.00 since changing over to the FD promo.:rotfl2: I just had a couple of minutes to get it paid. Still haven't order my MNSSHP tickets. We were going to go the 20th but now I'm thinking the 23rd. Seems alot are going the 20th. We could go either day since we aren't on the QSDP and only have a couple of adr's. I'm also going to start ordering some GC weekly now. My first one will be for t-rex. My girls want build a dino's. So I was thinking 35.00 each for that.

Below is the link to the girls shirts I got them for PL. They are so awesome. These are not emborided . She actually pieces all the work together. Well worth the 50.00 I spent for them both.
