September 2, 2012 - Magic - NYC to Canada

Just paid in full today. I can start booking all the fun come Monday morning!! Palo here we come!!
We paid in full on Wednesday, and I booked an early port arrival time, and two shore excursions. We are skipping Palo this time since we just cruised on the Fantasy 5/19 to 5/26/2012 and had a blast but spent $$$. Before I paid in full I downgraded us to a cat 10A SPH cabin on deck 5. Works for us, since this will be our 10th DCL cruise.
We still plan on taking the train from Central Jersey to the port on Sept 2nd, which will be a holiday weekend train schedule.
Michele

Just checking in on the thread. I agree with some of the comments about this one being slow compared to others. I think it will pick up a little as the cruise approaches.

We still haven't decided which excursions we want to do but it definitely won't be the ones that cost $4000+

Our room # is 5501 as of now.

I am!! Still haven't found a hotel yet! Getting nervous now. However, we are getting on the Fantasy in about 2 weeks so I'm having trouble focusing on much else right now!!

Is anyone staying in the city before or after the cruise? And if so, where? The cheapest we are finding is still well over $300 bucks a night. We've been to NYC a few times and have always been able to find a deal on Hotwire but nothing reasonable has come up for months now.

I spent hours searching...after a few days, I finally found the Best Western Convention Center. We are staying 2 days before and 2 days after - sharing a room with my in-laws. Hotels in Manhattan are really pricey and it was hard finding something that we all agreed on! Good luck!

Its hard to say... I am booked on another cruise (Feb 2013) and I think we are at 20 FE staterooms over there... but that cruise seems like its approaching a capacity... this one not so much. I have a feeing we will have the cruise all to ourselves. I swear there will be big discounts on this one after final payment date.

I bet we don't get to over 10 FEs when the smoke clears - which is a shame. This will be my fourth DCL and by far the smallest FE list (the Panama Canal had 120 FE staterooms! WOW!).

I agree....this seems to be a really small FE group. On my last cruise, we had to break it up into 2 groups because there were so many participants! I love the FE swap and I'm excited to start putting everything together!! :thumbsup2

Just finished checking in. Really excited about getting away for a few days with the family and you all. :mickeyjum Now we just have to figure out where to stay on the way up and on the way home.

As you all probably know, DCL is offering three different post-cruise excursions in NYC on debarkation day that drop you off at your designated airport at the end.

If I may ask, is anybody else here thinking about booking one of these?
We definitely mean to because our flight doesn't leave until late afternoon, but now I have read in an inaugural cruise trip report that these excursions were all but one cancelled due to lack of interest ...

I really wouldn't know what to do with ourselves all day without one of these excursions, since touring NYC on our own doesn't really seem to be an option with all our luggage. Now I'm having nightmare visions of spending 8+ hours at the airport! :scared1:

Also, forgive me if this has been mentioned dozens of times before:

But have we already agreed whether (and when, and where) there is going to be a DIS Meet on board?

I hope there's going to be a meet!! We did talk about meeting in the promenade lounge. Is that still a go??

We now have everything booked, Palo and our excursions. Doing Palo brunch on day 2 and dinner on day 4. Anybody else going to Palo on the cruise?

For excursions we are doing Peggy's Cove in Halifax and the St. Martins tour in Saint Johns. What everybody else doing??

Ya were are thinking of the Peggy's cove tour as well. We see when it get closer to booking.

We are staying at the Pod Hotel when we get off the ship. We got one of the rooms with bunkbeds...just hubby and me, and we figure we will only be there to sleep, so it doesn't matter. $199 a night and a great location.

Before the cruise we are staying at the Skyline Hotel near the port. We got a $199 rate there too.
