September 2, 2012 - Magic - NYC to Canada

Reposting a really old post… hoping we can garner some additional folks:

Howdy folks, I am willing to coordinate a fish extender (FE) list for this cruise (I am pretty sure one has not started for this cruise as of yet).

For those that don't know, all Disney ships have an ornamental fish outside the room. The fish is used if someone needs to leave a note for someone in the room. What folks do is buy or make a holder with pockets that they will hang from the fish - we call this the fish extender. Folks participating in this FE will know the rooms of all the other participants (from what is posted here) and they will buy or make a small gift to leave in each FE sometime during the cruise. So it’s sort of like a Secret Santa thing. Some get a gift for the room, others personalize stuff for each person in the room or tailor it to the ages of the folks in the room. My experience on FEs have always been great. Folks often make or purchase a Disney inspired gift or will share something about where they are from or where the cruise is going. It’s always a treat to see stuff in your FE when you come to your room. It’s another way of DIS folks interacting and making the cruise special. So I will start the list:

Latest FE list (please let me know if I have any of the information wrong):
SILMARG - DH/DW/DD13/DD10 - 6120
DISNEYHOLIC - DH/DW - ????
KMAB00 - DH/DW - 6646

I would love to be added. We are in #5628 and we have two adults

What hotel are you guys staying at? We're flying in the day before the cruise (9/1), and I have no idea where to stay...

We are staying at the Hilton Times Square on Friday and Saturday night. My FIL and his GF have never been to NYC so we are going to tour them around on Saturday and then drive to the port on Sunday. Getting so excited.

We've never been either...nervous!!

Is it just me, or does there still seem to be a lot of availability for this cruise? Looks like lots of upgrade opportunities. :littleangel:

I do have the same impression! Let's hope for cheap upgrade possibilities :thumbsup2

We love doing the FEs. This time it will just be my hubby and me, but we'd love to be added. I will get the stateroom # for you to add to the list!

BLUEMOON - DH/DW - 5628

DISNEYHOLIC - DH/DW - ????
KSTATEGRAD - DH/DW - ????

We just returned from the Fantasy 7 night Eastern on Saturday. We had an aft balcony and DH never used it. For this 9/2 cruise I just went online and downgraded from a 5A deck 7 to a 10A deck 5 non-connecting SPH cabin. We love SPH so the obstruction is OK with us. I was waiting for a OGT but decided to get the 10A, and I just paid in full. The difference in price was $768 total but our onboard credit should be a $100 less. Works for me. We live on the East coast, so I prefer to be up on deck when viewing the shoreline.
I just booked two excursions.

I'm sure I'll make changes before we depart on 9/2/12

I've started getting the supplies for the FE and I can't wait. Any guess how many more people will join the FE. It is always so hard to guess how much to make/buy.

Its hard to say... I am booked on another cruise (Feb 2013) and I think we are at 20 FE staterooms over there... but that cruise seems like its approaching a capacity... this one not so much. I have a feeing we will have the cruise all to ourselves. I swear there will be big discounts on this one after final payment date.

I bet we don't get to over 10 FEs when the smoke clears - which is a shame. This will be my fourth DCL and by far the smallest FE list (the Panama Canal had 120 FE staterooms! WOW!).

We just got off the same cruise! Hope you had a great time! Did you hear the cruise that left the day we got back just recused some men at sea? Bet that was exciting for everyone!

We just booked the Times Square Hilton for the Fri and Sat. night before the cruise. So excited :)

I feel like I'm talking to myself in this thread! :-)

Just wondering:

How many of you are going with just a birth certificate and drivers license vs. a passport/passport card? I have the card, but my husband just has the DL/BC. Thinking about upgrading us both to the book (because I know it's safer to have it), but wondering if we're the only ones who, so far, don't have the passport books. As many cruises as I've done, you'd think I'd have gotten one by now, but I haven't! :goodvibes

I thought you could no longer enter Canada with just a BC and DL? You should really get the book just in case. Even driving you need it to get into the country.

Good luck!

You can definitly just use a birth certificate and a driver's liscence. I called last week to add a room to our reservation and they asked me if I would be using a passprot or a raised seal birth certificate and drivers liscence. You will be fine just using those to get on and off the ship.

Thank you for the nice German welcome! Whereabouts in Germany did you live? I love living here, when I was younger I dreamed of emigrating to Australia but now I'm really happy living here and "only" holidaying elsewhere. (Although that doesn't change the fact that we've got lousier weather here than 90% of the world ;))

And yes, we were also thinking about seeing New York first and doing the cruise afterwards, for the same reason you are giving.

Cool! I lived in Germany, too. In Stuttgart for 10 years. My parents also lived in Heidelberg (mother went to High School there) and both will be on the ship as well! :cheer2:

While I'm taking a few moments to post on the boards, I was curious if anyone knew much about singles on the cruises. I read somewhere that sometimes there are Singles Mingles, but it seems like most people travel with their significant others or family, like me, as I'll be with my parents, sister and niece. Does this seem true, or is it a mix?

Also, if you have a 30-something single friend or family member you'll be traveling with, let me know! princess:

That's cool! When you overhear someone speaking in German, make sure to come over and say hi, as it will probably be my DH and me! :)

Thanks! According to DCL's website, it appears that's the case too!
