September 17, 2006 - 11 Night Southern Caribbean

I hope everyone is enjoying the holidays.

The 11 night "surprise" cruise to DH went well. I wrapped up a book on the Caribbean Ports of Call - Eastern and Southern Regions. He opened it and gave me a look. His first question was when were we cruising and the second question was if I booked a CAT 4 like we had last time. When I responded no, he immediately asked about the cost to upgrade. Who knows what type of cabin we will be in. And my DD looked so sad that she wasn't coming so I told her she could miss school and join us. Not sure about DS, he is much too cool for Disney (obviously did not inherit the Disney gene).

How about gifts? What did Santa bring everyone?

Good Morning All,
...

The pups had a great Christmas and were flaked out pretty early being stuffed from treats.

So did Tippy. (Click photo for larger)

Great time today! Back to work tomorrow. :guilty:

Hope everyone had a great holiday!

Candelight Processional was wonderful as usual - except for Jim Caveziel promoting The Passion of the Christ....

I am back at work today.... Could have taken the week off but I wanted to save all my vacation hours for Sept!

I think we have two more friends coming on the cruise - I sent them the link for this thread.... I wonder if they will post!

Hope everyone enjoyed the Holiday! For us folks in retail - we made it through!

Our daughter Jenna will be turning six years old next week. So, per her request, we will be spending next week at Disneyland. Anyone else??

We have a question for all of you DVC members. Do you ever regret joining? Leslie accepted a job as a privately contracted Psychologist with the Air Force last month. Who would of thought she would be back with the USAF. Anyway, her contract allows us the opportunity to do some extra things. Our thought since our girls are still quite young, was to join DVC or perhaps a purchase a vacation home somewhere. Any thoughts or advice? Thanks in advance.

Oh yeah - Go Ducks!

We love our Dvc.
Try a resale.. if you need several resalers, pm us we will give you the info.. Less Moola...

We also love our DVC points, best investment we have ever made. We have traded our points for the Grand Californian at Disneyland. We do not think you would regret the investment.
Lynn

What Lynn Said, DVC is great for us. Satisfied beyond our expectations. We have used our points to lots of fun things, DLP, DL, WDW, Hawaii, and Tanzania, and all our cruises.

Peter has a good point on resales, although DVC has a deal now where the points are only $83 each at SSRand some resales are in the $80 range. Remember SSR contracts are longer in length than the other DVC properties. Any questions send us a PM.

Up early, been at it for about an hour now, getting a jump on the day, I feel like Mel Brooks as the Gov. in Blazing Saddles, work work work work work, doing the paper chase, but better yet I really feel like "Mungo just pawn in game of life."

Later kids

Morning all!
I'm feeling pretty good today. I worked last night and came home and got a GOOD nights sleep. I love waking up without the alarm clock. Slept in until 7:30am- I feel much better.

I have to work tomorrow and today is one of my last free days until school starts next week. I think we are going to drive down to the Schaumburg area and do some shopping. Robb took the day off today, because I don't work and Noah does not have school or daycare.

We are doing the "Qwest for the search of the shrimp puff" today. Which entails driving to various Asian markets to find those puffed rice things that taste like shrimp and styrofoam. Don't ask me why I want these things, I just do. So, we are going to try and find them. I also know there are some great scrapbooking stores by said Asian markets and a LARGE Mall!

We may also look at hot tubs. I would love to buy the hot tub and the cruise- but that won't be possible. After taking the cut in pay to work at Rush- I can't do such crazy things. Unless someone want's to pay for my cabin? :rotfl2: However, I think we will end up putting the hot tub off until next year. I really want to go on the cruise. :earboy2:

I don't know where they are!! I have to see if they are going to join us!

gouodux - We love our DVC - we used the points for our DCL cruise when we got married, we have also stayed at the Disneyland Hotel. It is great knowing that we have that for years to come.

Kelly

gouodux - we have owned DVC since 1993 and love it - have added on twice even. We did the parks yearly when our children were small and now we cruise - and do the parks once and awhile.

I hope everyone had a great Christmas - ours was depressing because it was the first day when no one made my bed, cooked my meals, took me to exotic places, put my napkin in my lap - you know all that good stuff that goes on. But - the glow was still there. We travelled with my middle son's girlfriend and she came back his fiancee - yep, he got down on bended knee back on Deck 7 and she said yes! It was very exciting but no wedding until she finishes grad school (physical therapy) and since she won't start until this fall it will be awhile.

Happy New Year everyone - be safe and have fun!

Gail, Congrats on the future DIL. Pretty neat story.

It is tough coming back to reality, thus we work for our travels.

Have a safe and prosperous New Year.

Thank you for the responses.

Now perhaps more annoying questions . . . . .

Is it terribly important where you purchase your membership (i.e. BCV, BWV, OKW)? We have only been to WDW once and stayed at the Beach Club and really enjoyed it. We don't think booking times will be a problem because we tend to go off season anyway.

What is the purchase process? One lump payment, a large down, a small down??? What do the maintenance fees run?

Thanks again

Here is a view that many folks have about the above question….. buy where you want to stay, it gives you the 11 month advantage on making your reservations. We also are off season folks but that can be when the various DVC properties fill up due to it taking less points for your stay. The contracts for SSR go for a few more years than at the other properties as it in a newer resort.

I am guessing here on this answer. I think the down is 10-20%, Disney offers financing, don’t know the rate. Maintenance fees are different for the various properties. This is a guess ---Points range from about $3.00 to $4.50 per point per year. Sorry not to be very specific.

You might want to check out the DIS DVC board for more concise answers. Or Give DVC a call. There is an incentive for referrals, but not for referrals from us folks in Wyoming, it’s a real-estate law thing.

Years ago when we bought, DVC was very low key in the sales approach, and from what I hear they still are. I was high pressure, just wanting to know the cost. I knew it would be good.

Don’t hesitate to ask away, we will try to answer the best we can.

Good Morning Kids,

Well another year comes to a close and we have a new year ahead of us. Just one more spin around the sun is done.

Any big plans? I just hope to stay awake till it is midnight in NYC.

We can usually make it up until midnight in NYC, but lots of times don't make it until midnight here. Sounds like our house guests just woke up, I hear the baby crying. Hope everyone has a wonderful and safe New Years Eve!
