I bought the stiff felt at Joanne's and that will be perfect for the Mickey ears. Just need to plop a magnet on the back. Yes, Ian, I've been saving all the business card magnets that keep showing up in the mail. I also bought a Tigger and a Tink embelishment to put on our door sign.

I cannot for the life of me remember if Peggy re-changed her mind about doing FE. I tried calling her from Joanne's to see if she wanted me to get supplies to make her a simple one, but couldn't hunt her down. Saw some cute ideas for a Mickey/Minnie one, and all their sticker/emblishment stuff was 40% off.

Kay, let us know what you find out about FL resident rates, as my brother's mother-in-law may be able to apply it to her stateroom.

Door decorations:

Besides the above mentioned Mickey ears, this trip will have a 'family' sign or two (pirate like one and deck chairs one) as well as my DISboards cruiser sign and a Tink sign for Dianne (must have symmmetry). Peg will have a few signs on her door, and there will be ears for the other two family doors. And I think Peg is making a a copy of the family cruise sign for their doors also. I think we'll want an external dry erase board on each door too. GREAT for leaving messages and for folks who walk by to leave greetings too. I have a small one for inside my cabin for when one of us departs while the other is sleeping.

Oh....and we'll have our DCL nametage magnets too!

.

Well, a good idea at last.

Seriously, a small dry erase board (you can find the cheapie ones and glue magnets on the back) is and extremely good idea. As one connects with people, it's a great way to leave notes for friends.

I remember from our last cruise, I didn't really care for most of the cake like deserts. Probably a good thing, otherwise I would have had to be :rotfl:rolled :rotfl: off the ship!

I'm determined not to go overboard (so to speak) on this cruise. I'm also planning on trying to lose an additional 5 pounds before the cruise.

I often find that the desserts on the cruise look better than they taste. It's the desserts at WDW that might be my temptation. Will I be able to pass up strawberry shortcake from Sunshine Seasons even IF there was a Skinny Cow in the freezer back at the villa? I'm thinking probably not.

Actually, with all the seafood and salads available at dinner on the cruise, I'll probably be able to start my post WDW recovery then! There is the issue of the fatty, fruity, boozie drinks however.....:rolleyes1

.

Do they still make those cheap cardboard dry erase boards like we used to buy for dorm room doors?

I've not ever seen that kind, Ian. Want me to pick up one for you when I hit the dollar store?

Time to hunt down my sister and go back to the craft store.....if I can stay awake!

I'm not a good person to ask. I'm not even sure if we will have signs, other than the ones I've already posted.

However I do have a tip: Do not buy the printable magnetic sheets[/B as they cost a small fortune. Instead print the signs on good heavy photo paper and go find some magnetic business cards. Businesses are always giving away boat loads of magnetic business cards.

Cut up the cards and glue them (magnetic side out) to your sign. Pretty, cheap and very effective.

For our UK friends this is your Blue Peter project, so please go as a grown-up to help you with the sharp scissors. It is also a Blue Peter project that does not require any sticky back plastic or empty washing up bottles.

Good tip! :thumbsup2

Door Decorations
We have taken many many many trips to Home Depot to acquire the Mickey paint chips. I thought all the colors would be very cute. My kids have probably acquired about 100 and I am going to cut them out and glue magnet pieces to the backs of them to hang on our door.

I picked up a magnetic dry erase board today at TArget in the $1 section. Also at Target in the school supply section, I picked up a better one for $1.99. I wasn't sure if the $1 one had a strong enough magnet. Don't want it falling off the door!

It's also going to be my b'day so I'm going to pack a b'day sign and tell my husband to hang it up for me. It would just be too pitiful if I actually hung it myself for myself. I might also pack streamers and balloons. I want a very decorated door!

And for those of us who grew up with Howdy Doody, Captain Kangaroo or Sesame Street, BLUE PETER is....????

Florida Residents rates are out for this cruise! DU have confirmed that they were able to add the code to my reservation.

BUT

if you do the Birthday decorating yourself, you KNOW it will be done RIGHT :rotfl:

It was (and perhaps still is) a children's program in the UK.

Everything you wanted to know about Blue Peter on Wikipedia : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Peter

Famous for making things. An old joke is that everything was made out of washing up liquid bottles, sticky backed plastic and a pair of "Val's old knickers"

So Ian, I am curious. How do you know about Blue Peter?

I'll have to check out Target at the weekend.

Sounds like you're going to have a very festive door.

I'm a citizen du monde! Why, are you familiar with Blue Peter?

(I'm surprised Marilyn hasn't waded in, though she's probably asleep right now. It wouldn't shock me to learn that Marilyn has a Blue Peter badge.)

I missed my opportunity to be witty and say that my parents condemned me to knowing all things British when for some bizarre reason they named me Ian, a name that nobody in the United States used in the 1950's. (At least they didn't name me Vivian or Evelyn).

Or, I could also say that I was born in the wrong country, wrong class and wrong age.

DH and I are from the UK originally. Moved out to California over 10 years ago now. Even I don't have a Blue Peter badge. If she has one, I will be so envious (but I am sure you could find them on ebay these days!)
