Birthday cake. This has a bit of glare on the cake, but you can get the idea. It was a white cake with whipped cream frosting. Quite tasty actually. I suggest you EAT or remove the strawberries before putting leftovers in your cool-box in your stateroom. They will spoil before the cake would...and who wants mouldy strawberries growing on your cake!

The do have a chocolate version of this (though if that's what you'd prefer, be sure and tell your servers the first night). The 'happy birthday' part is done in white chocolate too!

.

.

When did you get this? Our last one was in 2006 but we saw the same at other tables in 2008 and it had a pink jello layer on top and was not this thick.

.

Sorry, I should have said FL residents rates. Keeping fingers crossed that we can save a few more $$ on this cruise.

I thought you lived in California.

Jan, the ones we had on the WBPC didn't have the jello puddingish part, it was all cake and whipped cream...I'm pretty sure they don't do those any more. But you are right....one doesn't really need a 'just OK' cake when there are so many other yummy things shipboard.

Well, I'm groomed, medicated, dressed and heading out to find some lunch and hit the craft store for Mickey ear supplies. Cheri told me they now have stiff felt, so I'm going to look for that for my ears. :thumbsup2

good day all!

.

I think I have to disagree. If memory serves me right, we had the celebration cake on the last cruise, because we were celebrating 21 years, and it did have the Jello type stuff.

The cake is actually sort of nasty, but I sort of like having a fuss made. Why not?

But, I would not recommend doing it for the cake. Blech!

I remember from our last cruise, I didn't really care for most of the cake like deserts. Probably a good thing, otherwise I would have had to be :rotfl:rolled :rotfl: off the ship!

Let us know what you find. I have paper ears I have used before but may want to remake them.

DOOR DECORATIONS would be a good topic to discuss! The new cruisers might like ideas since they may not know yet that the doors are steel and all look alike so a decorated door helps you find your stateroom and is a fun thing to have.

I will start.

I have made some paper signs in a collage method, covered them with clear sitcky plastic (contact paper) to "laminate" them and put craft magnets on the back. Some started as colorful folders for filing. I cut the tabs off and then have a 9 x 23 inch stiff paper base for the pictures. I cut pictures from DCL advertising and used photos we had taken. I use them over and over as they do not have any dates on them.

I have also gotten the Mickey shaped paint chips from Home Depot, cut off the white part, put a magnet on the back and write names on them, glue on pictures or put on stickers. Then some curling ribbon attached in the back makes them look like Mickey balloons.

I usually make one magnet of the Cruise logo. This cruise it has Dori, Marlin, Crush and Squirt and the dates for our cruise and thread title. It is on page 1 post 1. I will copy that and print it out to attach to our stateroom door with magnets on the back.

I may make some name signs this year with magnet sheets. That is still in the planning stages.

Who else has ideas to share?

.

Expect to not be able to do it all.

Relax, you are on vacation

::yes:: EXCELLENT ADVICE, Kay, EXCELLENT ADVICE ::yes::

You're going to make me blush!

Whenever there is good advice, it needs to be shouted from the roof tops. I have no roof top but I have page 1 post 1 >>> :cool1:

We do but we have homes in Florida so have Florida ID cards (and can therefore get the FL discount). :rolleyes1

Ian, now we must sleuth out why and how "that Jackie woman" gets a different cake than we get...... :sad2:

Does Mickey love her more? :upsidedow

:goodvibes

I have "generic" magnets - able to be used over & over PLUS I do cruise specific ones. Still playing around with what to do for this cruise but as an example for the PC cruise...I did one of our logo w/ my DIS name & dates.

I'll try to see if I can find some examples & post them....

Check for Florida resident rates.

The discount that cast members get that is 10% off Florida Resident rates was posted this afternoon, so the regular Fla Res Rate may be up

That Jackie woman always has to be special and is a goody two shoes. There's probably something going on between her and Mickey. Well, it's Minnie I feel sorry for ... But I digress.

Yes, we must find out why she gets nice cake, while everyone else gets poo.

I'm not a good person to ask. I'm not even sure if we will have signs, other than the ones I've already posted.

However I do have a tip: Do not buy the printable magnetic sheets[/B as they cost a small fortune. Instead print the signs on good heavy photo paper and go find some magnetic business cards. Businesses are always giving away boat loads of magnetic business cards.

Cut up the cards and glue them (magnetic side out) to your sign. Pretty, cheap and very effective.

For our UK friends this is your Blue Peter project, so please go ask a grown-up to help you with the sharp scissors. It is also a Blue Peter project that does not require any sticky back plastic or empty washing up bottles.

I think we actually fight over TIGGER:lmao:

I bought the stiff felt at Joanne's and that will be perfect for the Mickey ears. Just need to plop a magnet on the back. Yes, Ian, I've been saving all the business card magnets that keep showing up in the mail. I also bought a Tigger and a Tink embelishment to put on our door sign.

I cannot for the life of me remember if Peggy re-changed her mind about doing FE. I tried calling her from Joanne's to see if she wanted me to get supplies to make her a simple one, but couldn't hunt her down. Saw some cute ideas for a Mickey/Minnie one, and all their sticker/emblishment stuff was 40% off.

Kay, let us know what you find out about FL resident rates, as my brother's mother-in-law may be able to apply it to her stateroom.

Door decorations:

Besides the above mentioned Mickey ears, this trip will have a 'family' sign or two (pirate like one and deck chairs one) as well as my DISboards cruiser sign and a Tink sign for Dianne (must have symmmetry). Peg will have a few signs on her door, and there will be ears for the other two family doors. And I think Peg is making a a copy of the family cruise sign for their doors also. I think we'll want an external dry erase board on each door too. GREAT for leaving messages and for folks who walk by to leave greetings too. I have a small one for inside my cabin for when one of us departs while the other is sleeping.

Oh....and we'll have our DCL nametage magnets too!
