Going around trying to get rates for DW, DS and myself I was amazed at the price the TA gave me for a cruise in Sept. 2004.

Why Have'nt I booked? Im cocerned about the weather. I know the weather can be bad in the summer, BUT all I hear about this month is the Big "H". Yes I also hear that the Capt. will steer clear of Hurricanes, But what does this mean?

Instead of going to CC do we stay @ sea? Or another port I surely would hate to miss the FULL experince of a DCL which includes going to CC. Im torn I cant get over the price, and well now really confused. I do have to wait for my boss to get back from his trip, so I can ask if this time of year would be ok my 2 1/2 weeks vacation. Maybe at this time if I get the ok it may just seal the deal then. Who know's. I have searched and read the board about this month. I see the weather has been nice, and some have been diverted, but I can see why folks book for time of year now. ;)

I did get a $200 less quote from Cotsco for an Aug 1 4 day which I thought was good considering others were not bugding from the $3000 price tag.

Just wanted to share...

You can't bank on a hurricane actually hitting, so if it happens it's unfortunate, but the odds are small it would happen the exact day you are going to be there. It's weather and as with all weather there are risks. If the price is that good, go for it.

We have cruised in September every year for the past 4 years (it is our twin DD's birthday, so we sail during that week). We have never missed CC! It is hot, but we have enjoyed ourselves very much (that is why we keep going back).

The prices are the best in September! I didn't even know that the first year I booked. We just picked it because of our twin's birthday. Later I discovered it is the cheapest time of the year to sail! Works for us!

We always cruise in Sept. or Oct. because of the better prices and we love going then! Just be flexible and realize that you might be diverted to a different port or have an extra day at sea. Actually, that can happen any time of year. It's just a bit more likely at the height of hurricane season. Once you cruise you will be hooked. So if you do miss a port that you were looking forward to you will have good reason to book another cruise.

DH and I are booked on the 9/18 cruise this year. We aren't at all concerned about the weather. Stop being a Bigbaby and book your cruise.lol. You will be glad you did!

ditto on what ragdoll said...

except change 9/18 to 9/25

[edit]
Oh yea, also change DH to DW+DS

September seems to be the overall busiest month for hurricanes. here is an interesting chart that shows # hurricanes since 1886:
http://hurricane.accuweather.com/adcbin/hurricane/facts.asp?fact=since1886

The only major concern would be where the ship is going should there be one.

You don't have to worry about the storm itself, as they move pretty slowly (a 15 knot hurricane is traveling about 13mph. The Disney Magic can go 24 knots). You can outrun these storms.

A hurricane can not sneak up on you (unless you just go totally media blind for a couple months :p ). Thus, you can watch the news and weather channel to see what is coming (or going). It usually takes weeks for the storms to reach us from Africa and several days to a week if a smaller storm forms in the Caribbean or Gulf of Mexico. Pleanty of notice and warning.

DCL may alter destinations should a storm be hitting a certain area of the route, but that means you may get some newer ports or a nice relaxing day at sea. I don't think it will take away from the Magic of the trip.

All in all, I wouldn't worry about them.

Thats great :teeth: Im just gathering up the info right now to show my DW when I get home this evening. And present some dates on Monday to my Boss. Maybe he will be in a good mood (still in vacation mode) when I ask him.

Bigbaby,

How much was COSTCO vs. Disney's List Price for your cruise?

You said that you saved $200 but was that $200 less than the other best price of $3,000 or $200 less than Disney?

I have seen many references on this board to COSTCO offering the best price but I never see real numbers.

Yes $200 less than the $3037.00 price I get on Dis, and other travel sites. They also were a little competitive on the 7 day I am talking about as well. Right now Im trying to get a hold a friend who is a TA. When I spoke to her briefly she said to send her the info to see if she can do any better. So lets see what happens.

I compared the DCL price to my price on another line for a week in September, and my Deluxe verandah room on the other line was less than a standard inside #12 on Disney.

It is done! :bounce: ::yes:: :Pinkbounc

Yes I decided to go ahead and book out first Disney cruise. Im hoping this will be a great family trip for my DW and DS. Not to mention the biggest baby of them all... ME :earsboy:

Now Im just waiting for the info to be confirmed. I decided to go through allseastravel after going around and getting quotes etc. I felt that talking to them made a difference, and I would have loved to try others, but did not want to give my info online esp. on an un-secured form.

So now I wait on cloud nine for my room info, and weather my seating prefs. have been made. I decide to go with an oceanview Cat9 Stateroom. As much as I wanted to have balcony I decided a picture window would be better for my DS.

Now off to my next questions.

Thank you all for filling me in on the September cruise experiences. I almost paid $3037 for a 4day trip, now I get to go on a 7day for under $2500!

NOT BAD.

Congrats!!! Isn't it fun! I have always sailed in October and we loved it!! I just book a 7 day for Oct 2005........The price I got was so good. I can not afford to go in the Summer and I really would not want too. The weather in the fall is delightful!:sunny:

Happy planning!:hyper:

We have been on a cruise before, (Celebrity Cruise Line) in February and we were stopped from going to a port because of really rough seas, it wasn't even a hurricane. We were on a Western itinerary and we ended up going to Key West twice to make up for the lost port of Progreso, Mexico. My BIL had his whole itinerary changed on his honeymoon from Eastern to Western, or vice-versa-I can't recall, after they had set sail because of incoming bad weather. The cruise lines steer clear of bad weather for the larger good, you just have to go with the flow...or the tide as it were!

Hey, BigBaby - Congratulations on booking your 1st cruise! We're [DH & DD 8] going on the same cruise & we can't wait.

Don't worry, there's no hurricane scheduled for that week - LOL!

Of course you would not send info on an unsecured form, but no reputable online agent would ask you to do that. Did you make your call on a cordless phone? Was it analog or digital? Was it DSS? Analog cordless phones are just as unsecure as an unsecured web site; a neighbor with the right equipment can listen to your calls.

Congratulations on your booking! Sounds like a great trip and a great deal.

We cruised last september and had perfect weather all the way.

Will cruise this sept again....hopefully. As far as the pricetag..disney just keeps getting higher and higher..if you are concerned..some of the other cruise lines offer some great rates.

For me I like to be able to talk to someone, and one of the TA's I seen here just had a form and wanted me to fill out my DOB etc, Im not to keen on giving this out over the net. Trust me I know about Tech, and the net itself but not to say that they were not an option. Just not my first choice of TA after seeing this was the only way to get the info/quote.

The way I see it after speaking with a few TA's the price was the same give or take a few $$. I noticed some were lower but insurance was higher. It's ok Im happy with the price, but eager to find out room/dining info. Thank you all again... A great help this board is and great people pitching in.

Scrappy520 Thank you for the info on the weather :teeth: Im sure it will be fun.

BTW counter reflects when I start my journey down to FLA and the port... ;)

We are going in September also! So with all of our collective fingers crossed, I"m sure we'll be fine ::yes::
