I was going to call and book a week in September and was just having some thoughts about it and needed the help of the DISers.

I am thinking of going down the week of labor day so I can possibly get there before they close Pirates and Spaceship Earth. Pirates is rumored to close just after labor day for a lengthy rehab like we saw with Small World....that was 10 MONTHS!!

Spaceship Earth is rumored to be closed "as early as October." The pirates closing sounded official but no closing date has been offered. The rehab will include the addition of Jack Sparrow and possibly some other new movie element additions.

I'd rather go in October for the better weather but I don't want to miss out on two of my favorite attractions. I'll brave the weather for Pirates and SE =)

Last, the week after Labor Day (Sept 5th) hosts the Nights of Joy events. I just read an article that these have been selling out so they added and EXTRA DAY...The Nights of Joy will start on Thursday and happen at the MK starting at 7:45PM....this is AFTER the MK closes and people have to have seperate tickets for the event.

***My question here...how do the Nights of Joy, typically, affect the crowd levels during this one week right after labor day? Would it be better to book the week after the scheduled Nights of Joy?

Thanks again for the advice.

They Nights of Joy have the same effect as MNSSH or MVMCP. MK starts to get a lil bussier during the late afternoon to evening hours. Instead of dieing out like normail.

And these rehab you are talking about. I doubt will take place until after the 50th celebration is completed. Until you see a release from Disney I wouldn't belive any of the hype. They announced Small World over 6 months in advance.

Thanks for the feedback. Any1 else wanna chime in on typical crowd levels during the week of Labor Day and during the Nights of Joy....any1 go during this time last year?

TIA

The wifey and I went on Tuesday after labor day in 2003 and stayed for 4 days. We saw NO crowds during this time. We left the parks around 6:00, though. The dogs were barking and we didn't work up to the miles of walking ! The longest lines we had were 5-7 minutes. It was an awesome first WDW experience. :earboy2:

I go the week of labor day just about every year. There are no crowds to speak of. I think last year they added Thursday for the Nights of Joy, but so far, this year the only dates for NOJ are Sept 9 & 10.

Either way, the crowds are light enough during the week that we do the MK each morning, ride everything in the park that we like (which is most of it) and are done by lunch! We get our fix of our favorite park every day!

We're heading down that week after Labor Day, and I'm just making sure to get to MK early in the week to avoid the NoJ dates. I'm rolling the dice that there will be a little window between the holiday weekend and NoJ with lower crowds. Guess that window might get even smaller if they add Thursday!

Thank you for this info! I about passed out over the thought of POTC being closed. My DH would probably turn around and go back home if it was closed on our vacation. :guilty:

Thanks for the advice guys...I'm gonna make my ressies today. 3 trips in 4 months!! YAY = )
