Sept. 7, 2012 - Magic NYC - Canada

DH & I just booked this cruise to celebrate our 27th wedding anniversary. It will be our 12th Disney cruise. I'm really looking forward to reading all of your advice for New York and the surrounding area. I've only spent time there changing planes at JFK, and that's enough said.

This cruise should be a blast!

Welcome Jackie, where in the wine country are you from? We are originally from San Carlos and have good friends that live in Sonoma.

We live in Napa County... out in the middle of nowhere, on the way to somewhere. Actually, we're close to Lake Berryessa.

Welcome

On the main boards there's a thread with NYC info, you'll have to read it over.
I'm not too much help for NYC advice, we only go up for day trips and then it usually involves seeing one of the daytime talk shows.

I think there's a few of us locals taking advantage of the cruise out of NYC, so fire away if you have any questions.

Hi everyone, it's been a while since I checked in, and it is good to see so much activity on this board!!!

Jackie, it looks like you be having plenty of company in celebrating an anniversary. It looks like we'll have some newlyweds, and Virginia and I will be celebrating our 30th!!!

Prior to our Med cruise on the Magic, a number of us on the meets board got together for a pre-cruise sail away party, meeting up at the Trevi Fountain in Rome the evening before departure. We had a great time, and it really enhanced the cruise experience.

As we get closer to the sail date, maybe we can think about having a little get together in NYC, for those arriving a day or so ahead of the cruise. I'm sure between gometros and myself, we can figure on an appropriate place to meet up!!

Paul

We will definitely be there two days before the cruise! I need to pick the local brains here for a reasonable hotel room in midtown Manhattan!

We hope to be there at least one day before we leave. Waiting until after the first of the year to decide if we are traveling by plane or train from Williamsburg, VA.

Hi Everyone!!! We're on this cruise too. It will be our 15th DCL cruise. It will be me and my DH travelling. We are Deb and John or EllaEnchanted and 1Grumpy John. Travelling with us in his own room will be our adult grandson Tom and his girlfriend Tiffany.

The reason we want to do this cruise is because John and I were born and raised on Long Island NY. We live in the Pocono Mountains in PA right now, but we're still New Yorkers at heart. The thing we want to do the most is take the Magic under the Verrazano bridge. We were recently on the Wonder going under the Golden Gate. It was pretty awesome. We also went under the Americas bridge in the Panama Canal. All very cool. The Verazzano will be special.....especially for me because I have sat in traffic on that bridge for three hours every mothers day. I lived on Staten Island at the time and I visited my mom on Long Island. I can't wait to sail under her on my favorite DCL ship.

We're booked also. I was thinking of doing a back-to-back with the two-day, but the two-day was too expensive.

I wonder when the colors start changing up north and if early September is too soon. I'm also hoping that since it'll be the first day of school, there will be more adults than children on board.

I think the colors will be beautiful at this time of year. I guess up North it could be a little slower than NY and maybe change a little later in the season, but I hope not. I hope we're able to see a beautiful array of colors in the trees.

I'm sure others will appreciate your offer. If you want to post info I'll go ahead and add it to the first post as you post it so it stays in a spot that's easy to find. I'm sure you already know how DIS'ers like to plan ahead. :thumbsup2

We'll drive up to Metropark the morning of the cruise and take NJTransit into Penn Station and then a cab to the port. DD and I did that 3 years ago when we sailed on Carnival to Canada. Now that plan may change a bit if our friends from NC join us and we go up the day before and spend the night in the city.

I'm hoping to stay at my cousin's apartment the night before. He lives across the street from the cruise terminal. He is out of town a lot and says that any family members can use his apartment when he travels. We can park our car in his garage under his building. The morning of the cruise we'll just walk across the street. We shouldn't have too much luggage since it's only five days. It will be a very simple trip for us.

Two of us celebrating our first wedding anniversary. We are getting married this September (2011) and this will be an awesome way to celebrate our first year. We are a little bit like the Brady Bunch. We are blending his 3 children and 2 dogs with my 2 children and 1 dog. Full house. So we've decided this trip is for some alone time!!

Congradulations!!! You must be so excited right now. Our anniversary is in Sept too. It's a beautiful time of the year to take vacations and keep celebrating your anniversaries.

This sounds like an awesome group. We just book as well as my BFF so there are 3 of us. Deck 5 in our favorite stateroom 5622 with BFF in 5624. Looking forward to hotel suggestions. Have not figured out how we are traveling to NY from Virginia but we have a couple of options.

We're booked in our favorite stateroom too....5122. It's port side aft on deck 5. We love the location. Where are you on deck 5?

Maybe we can pick a place in NYC and do a little mini meet the night before the cruise. We usually do Fishlips when going out of the port in FL.

That would be a wonderful idea. Putting names with faces is always good for when you bump into people on deck!

Let's try this again! I also grew up on Long Island, in Uniondale. Where are you originally from?

Well we're practically neighbors.....I was born in Hempstead and John was born in Rockville Centre. I grew up in Selden in Suffolk and John grew up in Bellmore.

How long did you live in Uniondale? Is that where you are now? We definitely must meet up for a drink and chat. Where are you staying the night before the cruise. We should try and meet. If not then, maybe we can plan a meeting onboard.
