Lisa, I wasn't too sure and the way the website words it, sounds a lot like it's one trip.

I have returned from the block party. Will post pictures later.

Upon entering you are given an envelope with 2 snack coupons and other discounts ( Ghiradelly, etc..)

All the games (video and carnival ) and lemonade and water were available for free.

They had some very very tall people walking around. Along with everyone's favorite Dee Vee Cee, I asked her if she was coming on the cruise, she hasn't heard yet but said we should write in and request for her to come.

The snack choices were cotton candy, popcorn and ice cream bars.

Inside the motion club there was Pin trading along with dancing and more snack carts along with drink carts. I also beleive the bar was open, can't vouch for that personally since I was driving home. There was also a person making baloon animals. I have a picture of a baloon mickey that someone let me take.

Upstairs they were offering a free 5 minute massage and had a nice comfy couch area.

they had a big raffle basket that you had to stay until 7pm to win. no I didn't win. I had a complete blast though.

There is also a pirates shop right in the area where the party is.

That's what I was thinking, but I was hoping it would be an all day pass... no worries... it looks like there is so much to do, that we'll all be able to have a fun day exploring Key West.

Do most of you plan on exploring local restaurants, returning to the ship, or packing a picnic lunch for Key West? I'm thinking of ordering some sandwiches the night before, packing them in our nifty DVC Member Cruise Excursion Bag ;), and having a picnic somewhere on the island...

Lisa

Cheryl - the party sounds great! Glad you had a good time and can't wait to see the pictures!

Sure -she can share a room with Sara Toga. :)

I know there are a lot of newer posters and lurkers out there. :wave2: I'd be more than happy to add your child to the list. Feel free to send me a PM or if you post the information here, I'll get it that way. (If not, I'm sure HookdonWDW Lisa will "gently" head me over here to get it. :chat: )

Lisa is working on a surprise for all of the kids. If you'd prefer your child's information not to be posted on the thread, that's okay too. Just send a PM to either of us and we'll make sure your child is included.

Hey Mark,

We were just talking about Key West tonight at dinner. Thanks for the information, it will definately come in handy.

Does anyone know, how long will we be at Key West?

I thought it said we would be there until at least sunset and sunset is at 7:41 on the 5th. The ship usually gets in a little before noon.

Thanks, Mary. I just don't want to over book or be disappointed by not having enough time. So many choices. And, with the kids, I'm fairly certain we're going to have to visit the Aquarium and Butterfly museum.

This is my family's first cruise and I don't want to be tied down with someone in a group telling us what to do and when to do it when the group plans something. First of all, a group does not usually decide, someone in that group tells people what to do. I do not like that at all.

We want to do all the activities that DVC has planned for us first and foremost.

So not to be rude to anyone I will just read the thread and get hints that I want to use and pick up and we will do our own thing.

Don't know how many people are in your group, but with the ship's capacity at over 2000, there are lots of other people that are going to be around.

Looking forward to the cruise

Not offended, but confused. I AM telling you to do your own thing. The only direct advice I gave was in Key West if you are doing an island tour to do it on your own, not part of the Disney excursion group, you will save money and have more time on the island to go places. As for the rest, all I listed there are some of the major points of interest last time I was there. Go to any of them, or not, your call.

As for the rest of the cruise, absolutely, I also agree we want to do the DVC special events first. It already looks like they are lining up some major people for onboard events. Had this discussion a while ago, you must have missed it(not hard at all), am not even booking a dinner in Palo, want to remain flexible.

You really don't understand the point of this, do you? The whole idea of the meets before the cruise and the buttons to wear during the cruise, is so we all get together once(or twice) and have some friends from the DIS thru the cruise. Will we all stay together as some huge group the entire cruise, NO WAY! We would all drive each other nuts. But we will run into each other over the four days, and we will have friends from here to chat with for a few minutes here or there, and some may decide to get together for an excursion or something, there's a few things being planned, but doing any of them, that's their choice to make. None of it is 'YOU HAVE TO DO THIS' kind of stuff.

Thanks, Mark, for the information! We've never been there before and were wondering about which excursion to make ressies for tomorrow or if we should go it on our own. Sounds like there are tons of things to do and without a group tying us a down we can do a lot more of what we want. Thanks again! Kristi

If ever there was a port where you didn't need an organized tour it is Key West.

Mark
Thanks for the info. Butterflies look good for our Grandsons. :cool1:

For those of you doing Key West on your own. Don't forget to check the tour desk. In the past we have been able to find brochures at the tour desk that offered savings on some of the attractions. I know they had one for the Butterfly Conservatory. Now I can't gurantee that they will have these since the Wonder doesn't usually stop at Key West but it doesn't hurt to look.

Hi Everyone,

I agree with many of the sentiments about reading and filling up on useful info on this board...more so than posting, however the tone of some of the recent posts on this topic had me concerned. I get embarrassed by that "unwritten" ettiquite (i.e. changing the topic) so that's what stops me mostly from posting. But the responses to my 9 previous posts were always given thoughtful and gracious responses (Many of which came from Mark & Mary). :listen:
I wish there was a way to track the hours spent on the boards rather than the # of posts (Mary, is there a way to track that?) I'm saying this because I am ADDICTED to the Dis and even more so to this discussion. I "tune" in almost 4 times per day for a minimum 30mins. or so and I'm always caught up w/ the conversations. I signed up for the button, I'll be at the ship-board meet & the scrapping class and I used my day off yesterday to make my magnets too! Some people may not share in the enthusiasm as publicly as others but I hope when they do it's in the right spirit.

Stephanie,

I'm sure the board software might have a log of how much time a poster is logged in but don't think it is available to the general public.

You know the funny thing is for my first 2-3 years on the DIS I did a lot more lurking than posting. Then we signed up for the 10 day cruise. It was (and is) an amazing group. I had 2600+ posts on that thread alone. Why? Because those people became my friends. We laughed together, cried together, and enjoyed a great cruise together.

In addition since I've joined the DIS we have bought into DVC (that's how I found the DIS doing reseach for that) and have taken 5 more cruises. So I have tried my best to help others by answering questions and giving opinions. Hopefully my experiences can help others.

edited to add - please don't be afraid to change the subject. Especially to change it to ask a cruise question. After all if you won't change the subject someone else will. :)

I've been reading all the recent posts and just want to get in my 2 cents.
First I want to thank Mark, Mary, & Kay for being so wonderfull for answering the few questions my family has had.
The next thing is currently we are kind of lurking but this will be our first cruise and we only just recently found the DIS boards.
Third is we have our first Cub Scout overnight camp coming up in 2 1/2 weeks and we are in camp mode right now and once that is done we will be full throttle in Cruise mode.
With everything we have going on I sometimes i can't keep up with reading the posts never mind writing one.
I NEED A VACATION !!!!! :earsgirl:
Disney take me away!!! :rotfl2:
