Thanks for the support.
We had a wonderful day out at a new play area at the Arbortetum this morning. A beautiful day in Chicagoland.
The dad called me this afternoon. Agreed with me that we should not have had a discussion in front of the kids this morning. I told him, the thing is, these are not MY children nor are they HIS children. They are other peoples children and that should not have happened in front of them. I also told him that I'm very angry at myself for allowing it to get to that point.
Then he goes on to tell me that he thought his son was sarcastic towards me -- not snotty towards the little girl. When I told him that even if that was the case the outcome would have been the same -- his son would have earned a time out for being nasty towards me also.
I know the dad is concerned that I am going to terminate them.....after all, I told him so at the door this morning and is trying to pave the way to stay. I am still going to terminate them -- on the basis of it's the best for the child. I did lay it all out for the dad this afternoon as to what I've seen and how his child choses not to interact with the other children here.
I also told the dad that I've noticed that he and his wife are very comfortable having conversations in front of their son that I feel shouldn't be held within ear-shot of the kids. I can have a conversation with a parent for 20 minutes talking about an issue with their child. They can then have a conversation with their child, on their child's level, for all of 2 minutes and cover what needs to be said. There is no reason to allow a child to hear it all.
Being we got home late, I didn't have a chance to do the termination paper work. But I will tonight and pass it onto the mom tomorrow at pickup. They will have their 2 weeks to make other arrangements for care. I would be willing to extend it if they need some extra time and it works out for a replacement. I have 5-6 phone calls/emails I can return for a replacement so I don't see it being long before a new child starts.
This is the most dreaded part of my job......10 years of daycare and this will only be my 3rd termination. I've hated each and every one of them.
