Sept 25, 2011 Wonder - Mexican Riviera

At one point there was talk of adding the virtual portholes to the Wonder, but the powers that be (you know, those guys) were wondering if they could get it done in two weeks. It's a little different retrofitting something as opposed to doing when it is being built.

Again, I will try to post from on board (or Victoria) so stay tuned.

OOohh virtual portholes would be SO COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope I hope I hope they happen!!!
And I hope you can post from onboard, too. How exciting!!

Thanks Super*Mum! It's just my best friend Carolyn & I traveling, no kids to speak of. I took the CA Bar exam in July so this will be my post-bar vacation. :yay: I will probably be spending a good amount of time at the Cove pool, laying out & reading trashy books. :rotfl:

I love a good trashy book. They are such easy reading especially when you only get to read for a few minutes at a time and you don't want to have to think too hard about the plot.

My 8th grader is a boy. Andrew. He hangs out with everyone though! What are your dd's interests? Andrew plays piano and guitar. He is a black belt in karate. He plays a LOT of baseball on a travel team. And he likes video games!

I have a DD13 too! She's looking forward to meeting other kids her age on the cruise.

My 8th grader is Rebekah, she's into acting/drama, reading, anime/manga (she draws quite well!), and video games (most recently MineCraft and Eden Eternal , an anime based multiplayer world), as well as games on the Wii and XBOX 360 (better than I!)

She's very adventurous; she went with us on the "Outdoor Adventure" our last cruise and really loved the zip-lining.

Anyone else????

So heres a bunch of pictures of us :)

This is a photo of Trevor and I taken in Skagway on the first Wonder Alaskan cruise.

Love them!

I think this was from our last cruise:

Look for us!

so Promenade is Deck 3 (i think). Looks like they have a Promenade Lounge, on left side, which has an internet cafe :surfweb: - I'm trying to think of a place that won't be crowded like anything w/food will be. so its easier to find us. it has a bar and snacks too..
Other ideas? were u thinking of an outside deck?

I think the Promenade Lounge would work...we've had previous meets there. Sigrid?

EDIT: OOOps, I see we are already on for the PL!

Thank you!!! I don't find out until November 18th, so I'm in weird "graduated from law school but not a lawyer yet" limbo until then. Congrats to your friend! I don't want to take the bar exam EVER again - it really does take over your life!

I see a lot of cocktails in my future too, haha. Hopefully I'll be able to control myself so that my onboard bill at the end of the week isn't astronomical! We don't have any excursions planned, so we should be able to keep it reasonable. I'm perfectly fine with just walking around and exploring a little bit. Is everyone else doing excursions?

Congratulations in advance!!! I'm impressed that you graduated from law school!

We're doing excursions. The older two boys are going with my dh and doing the Canopy Adventure on our second Cabo day. I'll be taking the two younger kids on the dolphin swim. On the PV day, we're going to Crown Paradise and staying there for the day - they have beaches and pools that cruisers can take advantage of for a really reasonable fee. (I forget what it is right now!) We needed a beach day and that will be it!

possibly but we are just going with the flow. We are looking into the CC path as we know it will hit us before to long. But you just never know with the rules changing what the cc. will want or expect etc,. We actually do multiple grades and let her run with it. She is extremely adv. in somethings, and just a few years in others it makes me crazy at times trying to keep up. I look forward to talking with you as we are first timers with this adv. stuff. She doesn't know what to say sometimes about what grade as it depends on how the "questioning" is proposed.
Does Sam like the cc does it have any drawbacks? What does he say when he's asked about grade level?!!
[/QUOTE]

Sam just says he's in 10th grade. Makes it easier. Then, if they ask what classes he's taking, he'll tell them about the CC classes. It's worked pretty well so far. This way, he is with his peers in other classes - Sunday School, etc.

He LOVES the CC. Loves it! It's hard work, but these are things I cannot teach him (well, I guess I could, but I have three other kids to think about!). I think he really likes the independence, as well as having an expert in the field to teach him. He consistently gets the highest grades in the class! Drawbacks - just two - cost and getting him there. Oh - one more. Schedule. We can't up and travel at any time of year anymore. We have to take his breaks into account. Worth it in the end though!

ETA: One more thing. I think if my ds were taking certain classes, I'd be a bit more concerned about content. For example, certain themes in literature I think is best studied at an older age. (He was in 8th grade when he took precalculus at the CC. But if he'd been in an english class where they were studying the Scarlet Letter, I think he'd have had a hard time keeping up with the discussions.) Just something else to think about. My ds takes math and science out there for now. Not really any controversial themes there!

I can't wait to talk with you about this too! Homeschooling is a passion of mine!

We are on the repo and on this one as well. I'm not sure if I will get a chance to post here, but I will try.

What we have heard for drydock is the updating of Route 66 to make it match the West Coast (updating mileage, I think) and the murals behind guest services and the shore excursion desk to reflect West Coast ports and not the Caribbean.

Thank you! Now I know who to stalk, um, er, I mean contact with questions!!!!

I think this was from our last cruise:

Look for us!

You guys look GREAT!!!! Which cruise were you on last? You guys all have the same eyes! They're really pretty!

does anyone know if the ships have 3D capability in the movie theaters? My kids were wondering if they would be able to see the new Lion King in 3D on board!

You are so sweet! Thanks! It was the Panama Canal repo in January, bringing the pretty girl to the west coast...it was a "bucket list" thing for me!

Hi Christy! No need to join the FE to hang out in this thread. Who is traveling with you? I will be traveling with my DS10... we live pretty close to the middle of SF and LA on the central coast.

Hey, we are in AG/Five Cities...where are you guys? :goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes

I'm SO jealous! I really wanted to do that cruise! I hope there'll be another chance sometime in my future. How was it?

The Navigators I've read show "Disney Digital 3D" next to many of the movies, so I'd say yes... they do have 3D capability. I think that's pretty cool!

Hello everyone, I hope you all enjoyed your Labor Day weekend...we had a fun filled 4 day camp trip...now thats over, I'm ready to focus on our cruise...been picking up all our things we need & started thinking about clothes/outfits.

My DD wants to bring one of her Belle dresses...do a lot of the kids dress up & if so what days do they dress up...dinner as formal attire?

I was wondering the same thing about the Disney dresses. Both of my girls are bringing two princess dresses and I have heard that the girls dress in them for dinner. I was thinking that formal night would be a good night, since the dresses look fancy. My guess is that there will be little girls wearing princess dresses at both the formal and the non-formal dinners.:tink:

I have no idea why I can't post a pic! It's driving me nuts!

Bummer! Where do you have the picture stored? Are you pushing the yellow square? Other than that, I don't know what to tell you!

Okay - I've spent the last 20 minutes going through our messages trying to find the person who said she'd run with me on the cruise. I cannot find it!!!! So, if you run and would like to get together one of the days (or more! I've got 3 -4 runs scheduled), please let me know again!!!!

Your image is hosted at SnapFish which is not completely compatible with photo sharing for things such as this. It doesn't give you a direct link to the photo because they want to wrap their page around it to make sure people visit their site to see it. You might want to look into an image sharing site like photobucket to share the photo with instead.

Edit: I should also add that I am not completely familiar with SnapFish. There may be a way to share just the photo the might work but you'd have to look around in the settings to see if you can find a link for "just the photo" or "straight to the photo". There may even be an option for "Use this link to share on forums or other sites".

Just my two-fifths of a geek nickel's worth of advice... pirate:

So some pictures work at Snapfish? I shared mine from that site. I was surprised it worked. I usually have to go to photobucket too. Could it be because she didn't make the picture big?

I didn't get my edit in before you replied. Go back and check my original reply. There may a way to share the picture from SnapFish but I'm not familiar enough with it. The link the way she used it doesn't point to the picture but points to the shared page on SnapFish. The size of the image shouldn't have anything to do with it.

Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful! It exceeded my every expectation. It was an amazing experience, my wife was much more excited than she had thought she might be, and the kids learned a lot about the canal from actually going through it! The ports of call were amazing, and how can you go wrong being on The Wonder for 14 nights? :goodvibes

What an awesome experience!!!!! And, how wonderful for your kids to experience it. Next time. I'm there!!!!

We did a tour of the Sault Ste Marie, MI locks last year. I was amazed at how much I learned! But there's just so much more history in the Panama canal. I swear I'm going to get there someday. There and the Galapagos Islands!!! Think Disney will ever go there?:rotfl2:

On snapfish, it gave me the option to 'share' the photo with a link and that's what I chose. Maybe I'll try photobucket and see what happens ...:thumbsup2
