Sept 25, 2011 Wonder - Mexican Riviera

I am hoping sundresses will be formal enough since we are packing once for both Kauai and Mexico. Maybe I will pack one semi-formal short dress that I can wear to Palo and Formal night. If I had it my way I would just spend all my time in flip-flops and comfy summer clothes (this is why I love Kauai, you can go to the finest restaurants in flip-flops). Now to see if I can dig around for an old dress...

We are bringing our tuxes for formal night as well as Palo. We really do enjoy dressing up for these events. We had our white dinner jackets ready to go as well, but we've lost so darn much weight this past year that they just sort of HANG....not attractive at all! So, it will be blazers and ties for semi-formal night for us.

Michael

Sounds like there will be a range of 'formal.' I will bring some nice dresses, I just didn't want to bring a really formal gown. Hubby plans to wear a suit, but not a tux. For the girls, summer dresses with nice shoes.

Trevor will be wearing a Tux, since we are doing B2B cruises We rented one for him. He loves to dress up...me not so much. I'll be bring a couple of dresses, but no ball gowns or anything remotely close

Hi!!!! Isn't it fun being able to travel off season? Honestly, this is one reason we still homeschool. Have you started yet? We started last week. I have a 10th, 8th, 5th, and kindergarten this year. Is your dd in 3rd? I look forward to meeting you!

Hi Jennifer
DD is 8 and we homeschool year round so we have no set schedule and we love it. They are many reasons it works this way for our family but travel is definetly one of the tops ones. DD is in the 6th grade.
Can't wait to meet you and your family. pirate:

One more quick fe question... Are we assigning days to hand out fe gifts or is it when we choose?

Yay! I've finished organizing all the FE gifts. They are all sorted and packed.

Now I can start thinking about the unimportant stuff - like clothes:rotfl:

Wait? We need clothes?! LOL I got a couple things for the FE gifts. I plan on shopping out in Scottsdale/Phoenix for the rest of the stuff. We need all the weight for our stuff on our flights!!!

Good for you.

OK have your organised the following:

Someone to keep an eye on your house.
Provided family/person looking after house with itinerary/contact info (Trust me my family learned the hard way from this about 20 years ago and now always make sure everyone has contact info)
Put post/mail on hold (can only do 2 weeks in advance here)
Cancelled daily newspaper

I'm sure there might be other things too, but these are the main. Funnily enough I was about to put a general reminder out so not picking on youj.

Sigrid

Thank you so much for doing this!!! I cannot WAIT!!!! And, thanks for this list. I've arranged for all of that already! Also, someone to water your plants and cut your lawn.

Thanks again for organizing!
We wish everyone that is leaving soon safe travels!!!
Do you all wear 'formal' dresses for formal night? On our last cruise, I did. I was hoping not to get too formal this time. Do people go all out on DCL?

We get formal. Dh is an Episcopal priest, so he'll be the one in a collar. My two older boys will be in suits (if we can fit them in the suitcases). The 11 yo will be in a tie. Meg and I will be in formal dresses. The other nights we dress for dinner too. I love dressing up!!! The boys will be in nice khakis and polo shirts. Meg will probably be in her princess dresses or other nice dress for dinner - even the casual ones.

Casual.

I had one who was advanced like that! My oldest. He's now technically 10th grade age, but taking his math and science classes out at the community college. Are you going to graduate your dd early? Just curious how others are doing it. We opted to keep Sam officially in his grade, but have him do the advanced work.

Can we post pictures of ourselves here? I'd love to "see" all of you before the cruise! I'll post one later today. I have to meet a friend for coffee now!!!

Thankfully we took out our grass and put down artificial just before our DD turned 1. I was fed up cutting it in the heat plus we save so much water and don't have to put winter grass down every year, and thankfully too, inside the house is wooden flowers and outside are all attached to watering system so probably why I didn't remember.

I love the idea of posting pictures although don't have anything current but when I use the main computer later will definitely see what I can do.

I WISH we could get rid of our grass!!! It takes so much time. Luckily we get a lot of rain, so we don't have to water too often.

Let me try the picture thing:

It worked!!!! This is our last family picture and it's from last Christmas. We all look very different! Sam doesn't have the crew cut anymore. Andrew doesn't wear glasses anymore. William looks much more grown up now. Meg looks exactly the same!!!! Anyone else????

Love your son's Norwegian sweater! My Mum used to knit them like that for us when we were small.

OK so here are a couple of pictures. This one was taken when we were out dolphin watching whilst over in California at the end of last September.

Then this one, taken the same week, I believe needs no explanation:

This one was taken of us over Christmas whilst we were visiting our families back in England.

as was this on a day trip to Brighton with my youngest brother and his wife.

We don't have anything more recent. Possibly because I've avoided the camera like a plague. There is very little difference. My hair varies between blonde and red. At the moment it is "blonde", but I suspect it is going to go red before we head off on the cruise. Hair length is a little longer for both Kirsten and myself, and that is about it.

Sigrid

Jennifer how did you get the picture into your message. I could only post a link not any attachments.

Thanks!!

When you post, there's a little box at the top of the text box that has a mountain in it. It's a yellow square. Click it. It'll have a place for you to put your link to a picture. I put mine on Snapfish. Click it so it's big. Right click in the address of the picture. Copy and paste it into the box that came up after you clicked the yellow mountain button. It's not as complicated as it sounds, I promise!

Off to look at your pictures!

SIGRID!!! Your family is beautiful! I just love your smile! Don't you love changing your hair? It makes me feel so good! (Mine will be a little blonder than the picture for the cruise. I have an appointment next week for more highlights!) And your dd is SO cute (but I knew that already!). Your dh is a cutie too! He looks very sweet.

Thanks tried that, but, for some reason it didn't take so I went in and amended to links. As you have worked out by now I keep a family shutter fly site so that all the family back in Europe can keep up with our goings on as well as keeping a blog that I try to update at least every 2 weeks. Have to admit I'm not that good at that.

Thanks for the complements. My hair is the only thing I can successfully change hence the reason I am looking forward to the opportunity of dressing up and getting plenty of family photos whilst on board.

Kirsten still doesn't know about the trip, and now we've booked another. British Airways have a sale on through tonight that we have made use of so we are going to the UK for 3 weeks in March and my Mum is already planning my big 40th bash!

See you all soon.

You'll love the pictures they take on board! They're SO good! I usually buy WAY too many!

How are you telling Kirsten? Will she know by the time we see you? Meg is good at keeping a secret, so no worries there!

I had my big 40th last year! I bet you'll have a great time!!!! We also already booked our next trip - Oasis of the Seas next August.
