Sept. 23, 2012 Pacific Coast - Wonder Cruise

It would be awesome to live so close to see her (or any of the DCL ships) in port. The weather looks to be a tad on the warm side for Sunday but not as bad as tomorrow for you. NOT my thing - low 80's is about as far as I think it should ever need to go. Hope you have lots of cooling ocean breezes.

Across from the ship is a boardwalk/park-type area where the kids like to ride their scooters, etc. So we head down there about 30 minutes before they leave so we can hear the sailaway party and do the countdown to the horn with them. Then we hang around and wave to people as they leave.

But it is much more fun to be on the ship waving to the people on shore

Yeah, today and tomorrow are supposed to be really hot (I think tomorrow is predicted in the 90's). We are close to the ocean so we usually don't get that hot. I may have to forget packing tomorrow and head to my Mom's house to swim instead The 10-day forecast is looking nice for our sailaway day though

I am a newbee to all this (trying to figure out how to get fun stuff on my signature, countdowns and such). I understand FE is fish extender. Do adults get in on this? I'm confused (most of the time) Room 6654

The FE List closed three weeks ago, but you can still go to the Cruise Meet - I believe it's in the Promenade Lounge at 3:00 on sailaway day. There's also a cabin crawl for the first sea day.

Looking at an old DCL brochure and it looks like the Wonder has spent the last two days in SF. I wonder if we will be able to get any reports.

The port might be the place to be, its over 100 degrees in the inland valley and no cooling in sight

Due to the extreme heat we are having here in So CA, all soccer games have been cancelled today. Would have been nice to have read that email BEFORE I got up at 6am to get ready for the day. I see a nap around 3pm in my future!

Today I plan on house cleaning! Since MIL will be staying here with the boys, I feel like it needs to be spotless before I leave. I will also be finishing up my magnets today. I probably won't pack until next Saturday. It's weird since it is just dd and I, I don'f feel the urgency to pack like I do when I have to pack for all of us.

Is anyone doing the Zoo on their own, or the Midway Museum or Belmont Park in Mission beach?

WOO HOO!!! I can't wait to see my counter on Monday when it will be in days instead of weeks. I think I have everything done except packing. I need to pull out my checklist to see if I need to buy anything else.

Sorry about the cancelled games. OMG...it is crazy hot here. I think we are heading to Target and then my Mom's house to jump in the pool.

OMG! Next Saturday at this time we will be at LAX (providing there are no schedule changes or late flights).

Weather - my phone says it is 100 degrees right now in SD and 99 in LA - please be careful and stay safe and hydrated. Sorry about the cancelled soccer games but naps are good too. Can't believe this is coming out of my mouth but I hope it cools off some before we get there.

Ran my errands this morning and am about to go and pull out the suitcases and get them opened up to air a bit before I start filling them up. The filling up part won't start until Wednesday or Thursday though. Watch has new battery and hoping the other one gets a new strap as it will need to be ordered. DH's freshly cleaned suit is hanging with the other items ready to be folded and packed.

Gail great idea about airing out the suitcases. I'm going to do that too!

So excited I can hardly stand it -- got the box of FE's sent off to the port yesterday so now can focus on packing... for all of you non-CA-people, remember even if it's 100 degrees in L.A., it'll probably be chillier on the coast and especially at sea. So sick of this L.A. heat I'm praying for a nice cold day in San Fran (grew up there wearing a jacket after 4pm almost every day! lol) Maybe some of you Washington State-ers can pack me up and take me home with you so I can feel a little fall weather!

I can't wait to meet you all on Sunday -- if you see a family huddled around a smartphone watching a football game at the port... that would be us. The 49ers are playing at 10am and I can't miss it even though we'll be boarding right around the 4th quarter... (I made a 49er Mickey Ear shirt to wear aboard. Gotta represent.)

I've been following this thread since we booked the cruise back in June. It has been great reading everyone's comments and questions. Looking forward to meeting the folks from down under, sounds like they are having a great adventure! Sailing with our entire family, dw and three dd's plus our new grandson (5mos). Yes this heat has been intense! Now it is very dry but to me dry heat is still HOT! My mind has already started to vacation.

Now that we started to prepare for packing we were thinking of some tips and tricks that worked for us last time and thought we would share

The Over-The-Door Shoe holder was extremely helpful (The one with roughly 20 pockets) since the bathroom was so tight - it was a great place to put all our loose stuff (curling iron, brushes, lotion, makeup, etc.).

Insulated/Lidded Cups with straw. These were great since the beverage station cups were tiny.

Anyone else with a proven tip/trick

For some reason packing this time is getting me. So hard to narrow down the shoes! We leave on Weds so starting to get to the too excited to sleep stage!

It is an over the door shoe organizer, it has three hooks that hook on the top of the door. We will try to post picture.
