Sept. 2009 @ WDW! Be a Pop Tart 2009~come share your(Bounce Back or NOT)Dates !!!

I know some of us have been chatting about it on FB, but Disney is finally going to finish the other side of Pop Century! Instead of being the "legendary years," as was originally planned, it's going to be called the "Art of Animation." The biggest news is more than half of the 2,000 rooms will be suites, like the ones at ASMusic. Here's the story from the DIS news feed:

Walt Disney World announced plans for a new 2,000-room value resort that will open in 2012. Disney's Art of Animation Resort will be next to Pop Century and use the two empty buildings that had originally been planned for a Pop Century expansion. The buildings were abandoned in 2001 when business declined.

The new resort will be the same size as Pop Century, but will offer 1,120 suites that will hold six guests and 864 regular rooms. Suites have proven to be a popular choice by families, who often request the suites at the All Star Music Resort. The buildings will be themed around four of Disney's most popular animated movies - The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, Cars, and Finding Nemo.

Each of the four wings will have a courtyard that is designed to look like scenes from the movies. "The hope is you walk into this courtyard and you're kind of like seeing it as a character in the movie," said Frank Paris, a senior project manager with Walt Disney Imagineering.

My biggest worry is what we'll call ourselves if we all move over there. I mean, AA's just doesn't have the same ring as Pop Tarts.

 I saw this too, Jen. Found it a bit disappointing as it sounds like another version of AS Movies, rather than the original Legendary Years, which would have been far more interesting, but not sure how Disney would have incorporated the kind of Disney Theme many value resort guests enjoy. Family Suites will be welcome, but have already read a few posts that 2 value rooms are less cost wise for some families. Don't know what else Disney can do other than lower the cost of a Family Suite - which would be great for families.

I did read a very funny comment on another thread -
"So, what will POP be called now - half a POP Century?"
:rotfl: Maybe it's me, but couldn't stop laughing...which was not a good thing with an MS migraine on the loose this morning. Of course, I should not have been on line anyway.;)

Hi there gals!

I think Family Suites are a good idea as I know many families who need more than a room for 4 will support.

I would reconfigure the Family Suites to make them more comfortable. Those fold out couches/chairs are not that comfortable for anyone over the age of 6 IMO. I would have two queen beds in the one bedroom and have really big fluffy daybed/sofas in the other room with a corner kitchenette and 1.5 bathrooms with possibly just one sink area . A TV in each room is a necessity. I would also make sure that there was a playground and small pool in that area as well as some sort of small food court option.

Maybe smaller families would rather rent this sort of option even if they do not have the need for so many sleeping areas? Sometimes there is just too darned much family togetherness.:scared1:

We used to enjoy the Villas way back when we had kids and they were sort of that way. Only one very small bathroom but that kitchenette was a lifesaver as was having two rooms to spread out a bit in. We even enjoyed the fact that it was not themed as we had plenty of Disney while in the parks all day and it was restful and quiet back there.

M&N, I must respectfully disagree as I think the Movie theme will attract more families with small children. Children generally are the ones who ultimately decide most family vacations and the parents enjoy seeing their eyes light up over seeing their favorite characters but the small ones have no idea of any decade except their own and not much of that.:lmao:

:goodvibes Hey, my friend, you didn't disagree at all - I was saying the same thing - just a different way of putting it and it got caught up in the post.In other words- could have been clearer. :thumbsup2

If we were saying the opposite, then I would love for you to "respectfully disagree" - a respectful disagreement would make my day!! :rotfl:

T-Bird you got this going again. My whole issue with more rooms coming is CROWDS. Just wish they would expand the parks more, I know Magic Kingdom is. Or open another park already.

And I know my husband would love a suite, so we could be in a separate room from the boy.:rolleyes1

I'm with you on the crowds issue, especially EMH. Add another 4,000+ people staying on property every night, and they really need to do something to make those EMH hours work for people; otherwise, they're not really an added benefit at all. Maybe have more than one park have EMH at the same time? Or, like you said, it's time to add another park. I don't know if you listen to the DIS unplugged podcast, but that's what one of the podcasters said a few weeks ago. They don't need any more rooms on property--it's time for the 5th gate!

But I'm not sure why dh would be interested in a suite. :confused3 Could you elaborate for us a bit? ;)

This thread has been brought back from the dead. I think the new hotel sounds like a fun hotel and that will probably be the closest I will get to Pop again. lol

I agree I am ready for a 5th park but I have not heard anything about them even thinking about another. I am sure the profits for Disney are higher in buidling a new resort than a new park.

The only EMH I like is MK evenings anyway because the rest of the parks get way too packed. Ever try to get on Soarin on an Epcot EMH night? The line has always been 50 minutes or more.

M&N, as I read your post you were for more Legendary Years and I am for more Movie Themes. You say potato, I say potatoe. :lmao: After all I am from the same state as Dan Quayle and have even been to his museum. I was underwhelmed.:rotfl:

JM, the good thing about booking a suite, if your husband is parsimonious, is that he will have extra incentive to treat you well and be very agreeable otherwise the extra expense could be 'wasted".

I wish that Disney had been able to have Harry Potter World. It is the first thing that has made me even think of visiting Universal.

How about a park featuring many of the great classic Disney movies of all time? Just a thought.

Hey, everyone! Thought this thread was closed - took some searching to find it!

Just stopping by to say

Hey all! Nice to see this thread revived. What a crazy summer! I'm enjoying keeping up with most everybody on FB. Have a great weekend!

Hey, TB, what a nice BD morning to see all my DIS friends back in a familiar place.

I am going to spend the afternoon watching old movies and drinking unsweet tea with an occasional bowl of freshly picked blackberries. Heaven, I'm in heaven!

thanks to Christine AKA MinnieNana who dragged me off of FB! :goodvibes

It just hasn't felt right to be here without a trip in the works :sad1:
To make matters worse, I just dropped Diva Mary and her family off at the airport this afternoon....they are headed to Disney for 9 nights (first four @Boardwalk, then Poly!) :sad2:

Hoping to be able to start planning a trip with DH cousin's family (parents are about 10y younger than us, DS was the ring bearer at their wedding!) The have two little kids, 4 yo girl & 2yo boy. We saw them while we were in Pittsburgh last month and they can't wait to go to Disney! When I asked the little girl who her favorite princess was and WITHOUT HESITATING said Ariel and Snow White! The little ones LOVE DS and he eats it up! They just bought a house so not sure how soon they will be able to afford to go...
:hourglass

Hi everyone. Figment finder and Jan Jan long time no see on the dis. Hope everyone is doing good.

Sure is good to hear from everyone out here. I miss this thread.

Diva K, hope you get to plan that trip soon. Sounds like it will be a lot of fun.

Turns out Jonas was planning a getaway for our annivesary, but with Kara here and the extra expense of staying longer at Disney that got put on hold. He had even been working with his Mother to come stay with Jacob. Very proud of him (we had a conversation a few months ago when he complained we never get alone time and I had to explain, after 11 years, it was time for him to make the effort.) But I am having a hard time not planning something now. Think I will make him a list of restaurants and phone numbers to call to get it set up. Along with instructions on what discounts to make. Any restaurant ideas? I thought about California Grill so we could watch the fireworks (he doesn't have a clue about that one). I want to give him a list and let him plan it from there. We are now looking at going in January, so he needs to at least get the ADR's booked, we can always cancel.

Hope you all have a wonderful day!:goodvibes
