You shouldn't need a full-on winter jacket, but I'd think a light jacket would probably be a good idea. I'm trying to think back to when I was in school and what kind of stuff I wore on the first day back in Sept. I think it was long sleeves and jeans mostly, with a light jacket for outside. Of course, it could be cooler on board as we will be in ocean waters along the coast, and not inland where I live.
Not sure how warm it will get as we get further south. Does anyone think it will be shorts weather, or should we stick to long pants?
When we get closer to sailing time, I was going to call my SIL who lives in Murrietta and ask her how the weather is. When I lived in San Diego, I remember September as being hot unless the Santa Ana winds were blowing. I plan to bring two pairs of jeans and two pairs of capris and just switch back and forth. It is easier to bring lots of shirts and change before the evening. One can always sent things out to be cleaned and we found that was easier when we were on our 14 day WBTA.
Our weather in San Diego (120 miles from San Pedro and 80 miles from Ensenada) is the hottest in July, August and September. The average temperature is in the 70's but can go higher. I would plan on bringing shorts... I find that cargo pants with legs that zip off are an excellent compromise and that's probably what I'll bring.

Another think to consider is just checking weather.com and looking for the 10 day forecast. I'll be looking up Seattle, Vancouver and Victoria to get a good idea for each day that we are there. Things here in Murrieta can be much warmer than Anaheim during the day and then we cool down to about the same in the evenings.
Here in San Diego, the temperature will go down into the 50's or 40's in the winter and you'll see people all bundled up in jackets, gloves and beanie hats but they are still wearing shorts and flip-flops...
But then again, I laugh because everything...and I mean everything...shuts down if an inch of snow falls. I'm originally from NY...14 inches of snow and no one blinked!
