Sept 19th,2004 revisited.....

Taeja we missed you on Sunday at the Panama thread. I'm sorry to hear that you are feeling so bad. I hope you get better soon. I haven't talked to Amanda in a few days, but I checked and she has posted on the boards today, so I hope that is a good sign.

Well I just can't turn the TV off and all I see and hear is soooo heart breaking! I was on hold for about 10 minutes to donate to Red Cross, so I hope that is a good sign that many others are donating. It is just so sad. If I cry one more time I think my DH will think I have gone insane. I am so happy that I have been to New Orleans before so much was lost. It will never be the same.

All is hot, sunny, and dry in my part of Florida. The loss is horrible and they are all in my prayers. Having lived through all of the storms last year, I know how bad it can be. :grouphug:

A bunch of people including my DH may be going up there to assist. Its tragic. My prayers are with them all. :grouphug:

I feel like I should be doing something to help. Maybe we could collect clothes or toys for all the kids that have been affected by this. I just feel like we should do something. If I did collect some things does anyone know where I would send them? Red Cross, Salvation Army? It just breaks my heart everytime I see those images on tv. All I keep thinking is how will they begin to rebuild? How can they begin to heal after such massive destruction?

This is the info that I recieved at work

Well ladies I am off to DH company picnic. Just picture it if you will, a beautiful park, great food and a huge group of engi-nerds! Am I a lucky woman or what?! :teeth:

OMGosh guys..I am scared......It just took my 30 mins to wait in line to get gas. There is talk that gas is going to be rationed to only $10 per customer. It was 2.59 on the way to work this morning and I jsut filled up at 2.89........We are supposed to leave to ORlando 2mrrw, I am so scared of running out of gas. How is it looking in your parts of the country? I was listening to the XM radio and they said that gas was 3.55 a gal in Atlanta,? Please tell me how the gas is looking in your parts, exp those of you in FLA. If there is a chance I will run out of gas, and be stranded I dont know if I should go 2mrrw

Gas prices seem fine here. Yeah they went up a little, but after the past few months it really isn't anything new. I personally think that people are worried that there will be a gas shortage and are rushing out to get gas. Don't worry about your trip to FL. Yeah, the gas prices may be a little high but we won't run out overnight. You should be fine!

I am so glad you posted. I'm still very sick w/ a horrible cold, but have been very worried about you. Glad you posted! At least we know you are out there. What is your driving route to FLA? Where do you normally stop for gas? I know you would consider the safety of yourself and others so weigh the importance of this trip. Could it be postponed? I wouldn't want you to endanger yourself if you got stuck some where. Esp. if cell towers are down how else would you communicate? Do you have On-Star ???
I'd postpone until things died down and things got a little more under control. Is DH traveling with you? I forget which trip this is, and I can't view the countdown,so I'm typing on the crazy laptop and am trying to get my thoughts out to you clearly.

Wow! 1/2 hour waiting for gas! Blech! If the gas sit. gets worse you may have to have DH get the gas. People might get upset and get physical about it if you know what I mean. I know you won't be around these parts (unless your wanting to get to higher ground- lol),but gas here is $3.19. It was $2.68 I think yesterday.

I barely remember the seventies, but I do have a memory of waiting in line for gas with my mom. Here we go again only I'm the mom now.

Amanda, be safe, stay safe, keep us informed if you can. To all of you out there, you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Sincerely,
Tae Ja

Go to www.gasbuddy.com you can search by state and areas within a state, I was able to find gas prices here locally in WNC even in smaller towns. That can give you an idea although I would check it out daily since they will likely be changing daily.....

The gas prices here in Asheville were 2.57 this morning about 7:30am and by the time I left work at 5pm they were ranging the lowest at $2.99 the highest 3.09! Lots of lines at every station I passed on the way home.....

Dzne princess: , gas here in Palm Coast, Fl is at about $3.00 per gallon today and going up quickly. They have started talk of rationing and closing up gas stations and supposedly it has started here in Flagler County as well as in Orlando. Gas is expected to be about $4.00 per gallon by next week. If you decide to come down, you should be OK. I'll keep you posted. It'll probably cost you a fortune, though! If you do decide to come and get stuck somewhere within driving distance of me, all you have to do is call. I can IM you my phone numbers if you want.

Thanks so much Cindy! I would appreciate your numbers via PM or email if you want mabell75@bellsouth.net I have decided to go. If I have to be stranded somewhere what better place than WDW with an AP right? I know I will get there, I get about 400 miles with one tank...

The kindness of these boards never cease to amaze me. Amanda whatever you decide to do keep us posted. If you go keep your cell phone on so I can reach you if need be. I don't think Steve would want to talk to me! :goodvibes

Taeja I love the smiley!

I have decided I am going, and you know Steve would not be bothered to talk to you sweetie!
Cyndi,
You are the greatest and I appreciate it so very much!

I hope you and Taylor have a wonderful time! And hey when Wishes is going off feel free to call me so I can listen in! :earboy2:
