I said I was going to pack last weekend, but here I am ONE day before leaving and NO cases packed!
Don't forget my FE! I'm looking forward to it! Safe travels and enjoy the Med.

No, we do not tip them. Here it's normal to that whitout getting a tip.
We do it when we are going out eating but it's a few euro not 10% of the bill.

And the cleaningguy or girl is getting a few euro's, but that's all.

Ofcourse they do like it when you tip them, but it's not normal over here.

Connie

What about tipping the taxi driver in Madeira?

I am thinking that perhaps people don't have the facility to properly wash their own cups, or at least to hygenic standards. If the cups touch the outflow of the drinks machines, maybe they think the bugs will cross contaminate.
That is definitely the reason.
I agree on the ecological thing, but the cruise lines have a major job with containing tummy bugs and do try their best.

I guess the paper cups might go for recycling, but don't know for sure. The hot drink cups wouldn't though.

Right now the DCL website says:

DisneyCruiseLine.com is currently undergoing maintenance.

On deck, onshore and online, Disney Cruise Line is committed to providing you and your family with the most magical vacation on the high seas. Currently, we're making things even better at DisneyCruiseLine.com, so please be sure to check back here soon. We appreciate your patience and look forward to sailing with you soon.
In the meantime, if you need to plan and prepare for an upcoming Disney cruise, please visit the Planning Center. We also invite you to explore all of the magic that awaits you onboard our entire fleet of Disney Cruise Line ships, in addition to the cruises and destinations we currently offer.

So, maybe they caught on about their mistake with the Dream WBTA.

OK - forgot to or missed multi quote...

For the December 2010 transatlantic... I can't look as the DCL site is under maintenance and I imagine that the sailing in December is bringing the Dream to PC. I imagine that all of the cruises are loaded into a database and the import didn't flag this as not vidsible. Just my guess...

Becky - how are you feeling? Hope that you are doing better!!

I feel like I am stuck in the film "Groundhog Day"- I am STILLLLL packing!!!!

Us too!! (Although I did 90% of the laundry this weekend!!)

Does anyone know if you have to sigh up for Ocean Quest?
:cheer2::cheer2:FashionistaGirl:cheer2::cheer2:

Nope, you just show up. They do a meet and greet on embarkation day, but there is no sign in per say.

So, I finally did some cruise shopping. I hate shopping, so I put it off until the last minute. I wish all of you who liked shopping could do it for me!

I'm with you! I missed the shopping gene line...If I could avoid it all I would...

So, we have just a few last minute magnets to print out - I can't seem to get DH to stgop looking for more! LOL We are pretty much packed if you don't count our son. He is still wearing shorts to school, so we have to wait on his stuff until next weekend. But the ganeplan is to get everything packed next Sunday, and move the cases up to the living room. Fingers crossed that we make it! The way it looks we will check 4 bags, carry 2 onboard along with 2 backpacks and my laptop case. It feels like so much, but I can't figure out how to take things away - and I am not leaving showes at home!

Hello from Cologne, Germany, where we are having a delightful time with friends. Tomorrow we will leave for Amsterdam for three days.

Looking forward to seeing everyone on board soon.

Woody

Nice to see you on here while vacationing! Glad to hear you are having a wonderful time! We'll all see you soon!!!!!

pirate:

Safe trip and GIVE NOTHING BACK!!!!

Interesting paragraph in the Orlando Sentinal this morning. Disney's new pet kennel just opened and they have accomodations for Very Important Pets (at a premium no doubt). The interesting thing is that the VIP kennels have 226 sf, while my stateroom on the Magic has only 216 if I'm not mistaken. The dogs will have a bigger room than we will.
LOL

So I finally got caught up! I've been having DIS withdrawal this weekend!!! :rotfl: I usually check in several times a day but went away for the weekend and between activities and the fact that my BIL hadn't hooked up the new router so no WIFI, I was trying to keep up via my phone but not easy. :headache:

Had a wonderful holiday weekend. Saturday I went with my baby sister and her family up to their mountain house:drive: and after unpacking proceeded up to my little sister's camper further up in the mountains where we spent time eating, quading :moped:, eating, fireside time and - oh yeah, eating!!! After leaving there and going back to the mountain house to wash off the grime, we spent the next day out on the boat :sail: on the lake (with the camping group coming down). Well, the boat only holds 8 at one time so some of us relaxed on the beach while some boated. :beach: Normally we would have been tubing but only my 16 year old niece and 11 year old nephew were brave enough to deal with the cold. That's right - after one of the hottest summers on record around here with 90+ heat, we go away and the weather is in the low 70's (during the afternoon) and super windy!!! I had taken along two long sleeves shirts for the evenings and ended up wearing them during the day. Wrapped myself in a light blanket around the camp fire to keep warm at night! Of course today (as we were packing up) ended up in the mid-80's.

Still it was a wonderful weekend with family - 19 people and seven dogs!!! (that's 10 people and three dogs at the mountain house and 9 people and four dogs at the camp site).

The funniest part of the weekend was when we arrived back at the mountain house from boating and as we were pulling into the long driveway, all we could hear was seven dogs excitedly barking!!! paw:paw:paw:paw:paw:paw:paw: Thought the little ones were going to tear down the shades!

So great to be back on line and talking with all of you again!!! Still have alot to do but I'm the type that figures what gets done gets done. Many things are done and still some things to do. Work is going to be busy for the next seven days I'm there (:scared1: can't believe it's come so quick now).

So looking forward to meeting up with everyone.

I read that too! It sounds really special! Dogs are special!!:) If you go, let your dog goes, let me know how it is.

We will be spending a week at Kidani Village after the cruise. I read somewhere on this thread that someone else is also staying there. We have a rental car ordered for the week and will be making a grocery/outlet run. If you need something, let me know. Would be more than happy to pick up a few things for you. Maybe we could plan a dinner out... (Like we'll be hungry after 14 breakfasts, 14 mid morning snacks, 14 lunches, 14 afternoon snacks, 14 dinners, & 14 bedtime snacks on the Magic! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:) Oh, I forgot those miscellaneous snacks from Room Service!

We are at Kidani too for 10 nights but we'll also have a car - thanks for the offer! :) Might see you there!

Paula - good to see you posting! How is the infrastructure holding with all the aftershocks?

We had a set of shops collapse yesterday after some after shocks and we are having the first of the buildings demolished this afternoon.

We had a terrible nights sleep with 3 5+ aftershocks which kept us awake plus lots of others in the 3 & 4 range.

We are busy at work trying to work with customers who have buildings that are condemned.

The building my brother works in, was cleared for reentry but then they found cracks in the foundations and had to evacuate and its now marked as not safe.

We haven't had any aftershocks for some hours now but I doubt we will be so lucky to have a quiet night. Robert's Mum may well come and stay tonight as she's too unnerved on her own.

Is it wrong to be planning some Benedryl for the kids (dramamine?) or Gravol to help them get some rest on the plane (and to ensure no motion sickness)?

I used to get awful motion sickness as a child and have only really come right in the last few years. I tried every motion sickness medication available and none worked but some just made me drowsy and sick. Personally, I'd rather be fully awake if I'm going to vomit...

Also beware of medications that make you sleep - you are in an upright position and therefore more likely to get DVT - you need to keep moving IMO and it may pay to check with a doctor before taking anything like this.

Are you saying we don't tip the bellman, hotel managers or others who do us an additional service? Just want to be clear as it is customary here and I have done in the past in Europe when we have traveled.

Correct - they won't expect a tip, unless they know you are American ;)

Just finished our on-line check-in, we leave tomorrow (shuttle to airport at 4:00 am!)

Have a safe trip!

Thank you for clarifying the tipping policy so we know what the real situation is in Europe. I always tip the maids in the room as well.

I didn't know about the housecleaners either. We certainly wouldn't tip them here...

Who does she think she is!!!!! i've been waiting 2 years for this trip to roll round and she jumps in at the last minute :rotfl:

I sometimes think thats the best way :)

What about tipping the taxi driver in Madeira?

Just round it up a bit - to the nearest euro but they shouldn't expect more.

Thank you and I am glad you answered me because there is something I have been meaning to say to you and Steffy. I wish, hope and pray that I have a relationship with my friend Lisa for as long as you two have been friends and what good friends you are. You are a blessing to each other and I just love it. Cannot wait to meet you!

Aww thanks Sandi. She is really special to me and I cherish our friendship so much. We have so much fun together. Can't wait to meet you too!:dance3::dance3::dance3::dance3:

Goodness Paula. A 5+ aftershock is almost like a brand new quake. I am so sorry you are having to deal with this so close to your vacation.

Thanks all for your concern, prayers and pixie dust!

We actually live in Christchurch so are right in the middle of it, we are considering ourselves terribly fortunate that we have no damage other than some broken items in the kitchen - mugs, casserole dishes etc.

Other parts of the city are not so lucky, I have two friends with their chimney's now in their homes. Robert's Mum has her neighbors chimney on her lawn - it just missed the house.

We are still having massive aftershocks and tremors nearly 8 hours later and this could go on for days if not weeks.

A state of emergency has been declared and the city is off limits as many buildings are damaged majorly. I think the airport is still closed but they are hoping to open it soon. They might have to evacuate some neighbourhoods soon though so its not over yet.

Luckily with it happening at 4.30am, there were few people out and about - it would have been much worse if it happened 12 hours earlier when people were in the city on a Friday afternoon!

On the bright side, its a gorgeous day and we have power to our home - much of the city is still without. Water could be an issue in the next few days though!
So thankful that you are ok. I visited Christchurch many times when in the Air Force and it is a wonderful city. Do you know if the church in the square survived (where the wizard used to preach). Hope you have a safe trip out and we look forward to meeting you on the cruise.

I am hopeful things will calm down for you guys. Hopefully, Robert's Mum will feel more comfortable with you guys and be able to sleep.

I think that is a very wise idea. I am only going to take Ambien if I can not sleep.

I will just pretend I am not an American!!

I didn't know about the housecleaners either. We certainly wouldn't tip them here...

Pretty standard in the USA.

Just round it up a bit - to the nearest euro but they shouldn't expect more.

That is our plan!!

I keep getting confused on this tipping thing. My last understanding was not to tip the taxi driver....the cost for us is 55 Euros. So, should we tip a Euro or so, (since there is no nearest Euro option), or just let it be. :confused3

Thank you Jackie! Let's make a plan for 2012!! Maybe more of this fabulous WBTA will join us!!

Oh, Jackie!! I wish you were sailing with us! :grouphug: Another time for sure!

So sorry that you are having to deal with all of this now, right befor holiday. Hopefully things will settle down and level out a bit before you leave.

Thanks for the heads up on the sale at Men's Wearhouse. I finally convinced hubby to buy a new suit, so he did the BOGO and got 2 suits with 2 shirts and 2 ties, so we spent a lot more than you did, but he really needed a new one. They will be ready after the alterations on the 16th, so that cuts it close. At least we don't leave until the 17th.

We also took advantage of the Men's Wearhouse sale. :)

I am furiously working on my FE gifts. This entire evening, the only time I didn't work on them was when I was eating dinner and doing the dishes! They will get done... whether I must work on them all night or not! LOL

I really must start picking out my clothing...actually, I have to check with my sister to see what I can take because some of the clothing is her's! I'm going to hopefully do some of that tomorrow. I'm no where near being packed...and I can't believe we leave next week!!!! Where did all of the time go?!

Hi everyone!

Well, our final guests finally left last week. So, now I can fully submerge myself into cruise stuff. Our 10 year anniversary was on Thursday. Unfortunately, DH was out of town. So, we were planning on going out on Saturday night. He came down with the flu while he was gone. I then got sick on Friday when he came home. So, guess we'll have to go out on the cruise instead. DD came down with it yesterday. So, just praying everyone is healthy by next week!! I can't imagine traveling with the two little ones sick. I've started pulling out the kids clothes and pulled out my dinner clothes. I'm so stressed about packing it all! I don't know how we are suppose to travel in three 50 lbs suitcases? I found out had we flown straight with Continental and not through United Logan would've been able to check on a bag. So, bummer that he's a lap child through United! Well, haven't been able to read anything on here. So, hoping someone will let me know if there's anything we've missed! See you all soon!!!!

Lisa
