If you want an opinion, here goes, I would never leave my Pacsafe with my passport and credit cards with my luggage. I would either carry them with me or if you are worried, have them locked in the manager's hotel safe. We have had valuables locked in the manager's hotel safe all over world and never had a problem. Most room safes are not large enough to hold our computers and other vaulables so we usually have to take them to the front desk.

Thanks Noel. I was really serious in my question.

I think I'm going to get a money belt for my passport and cards. Should I have the manger lock up my laptop and video camera? Also, do I tip them? Thanks for your help.:love:

If you are not going to use them, I would lock them up. Pacsafe makes some great products which I found on Ebay. With time being short, you might want to order online from the directly or if there is a travel store, you can always purchase them there. We have both a travel store, Going in Style and the sports store, REI where both the Pacsafe Venture 200 which I purchase and the travel wallet are available.

I always feel a little tip to show your appreciation is in order when you use either the hotel concierge or the manager does something for you that is out of the ordinary.

Thanks for the links Noel. I'll keep my passport and credit cards with me. I'll shop for a waist belt tomorrow. We have a number of travel shops here and also a AAA. Since I really want to tour when I arrive, I'm hoping my luggage will be safe at the hotel? If I were checking into a Disney hotel, I would check all three bags and not give it an afterthought. I've left my computer with bell services every time I've arrived before my room is ready. However, I'm sensing that might not be a good idea here. Hence my question.

So I can check my three bags at the hotel, but take out my laptop and video camera and lock them in the manager's safe? Does that sound like a plan?:goodvibes

I'm planning on going to AAA this week to look at the Pacsafes. I wouldn't leave my passport/credit cards with my luggage, they would stay with me for sure.

Since we are staying at the same place, maybe we can get a van to take us to the hotel??? Then we could all watch our luggage together.

That sounds like an idea. I'll talk to my MIL (MagicMe) and maybe we can figure something out. She's the one who has really been looking into the transportation from the airport to the hotel.

I'm ready to throw my iPhone tonight. Don't get me wrong, I love my phone, but right now it won't let me access any of my downloaded apps. It will connect to the app store, but I can't get to any of the apps. If it keeps doing this, I'm going to have to go to AT&T tomorrow - and that won't be pretty on Labor Day.

Man o man...
it took me 3 days to catch up!:rotfl2:

short version:
all thoses are well... stay well
all those who are sick... get better
Welcome to all our newbies
and to all those who need prayers and PD ... it's headed your way.

Dh has 5 days before vacation. We have a day trip down to Phoenix for his Dr's appointment at the Muhammed Ali Center.
Picking up his tux and any last minute goodies for the trip.
It's all good here :)

Annie

I told Stephanie that her I Phone 4 is the nicest small computer that occasionally makes and receives phone calls!!!! :lmao:

LOL! That's the part of the problem - I can make and receive phone calls, I just can't do anything else! Sigh... maybe I should just forget about it until morning.

Yep see ya there ... its good its on the monday we get there

mind you i hear its more expensive than UK as they have to bring it in from the UK

jason
I'm sure it is still cheaper than the £20 per kilo excess baggage charge though :thumbsup2

Just popping in to say hi.

We made it Emiel and Yvette's without any problems. The flight was smooth, the food not so much.

After a day of taking it easy to get onto the new schedule they took us for a 3 hour tour. They surprised us with a trip to little town in Germany where Dreams are made, well the Disney Dream that is. Seeing the ship as it is coming together was impressive. Even though we couldn't understand anything that was said, as the whole tour was in German, we still took it all in.

It just makes us more excited to be on the Magic with everyone. We'll see you all in just a few more days.

I hope I haven't missed much on the thread, but I can't go back a read all the posts now. Maybe Lyn can give me the Readers Digest version in a few days.

Until next time, safe journeys to everyone.
Jon

Hi Jon .... that must have been a wonderful experience to see the Dream ... so jealous !! Have a wonderful time in Holland and the UK and see you in Barcelona :woohoo:

And if they try to pick-pocket you while you're naked, you might actually like it. ; )

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

I think I'm going to get a money belt and put my passport and cards in that. I can only stuff so much in with the girls.. They need room too.:yay::yay::yay:

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Oh my word ...... only 10 days until we leave ..... I actually can't believe it! I'm off now for my second to last work shift ..... see you all this evening !!!!

Personally, that is what I would do. I think you have an excellent plan. My philosophy is to be better safe than sorry. Maybe you can send them an email and ask what their procedures for storing valuables are so you can be prepared.

Just my thoughts...

Please do the same things as you do in a hotel in New York, You can leave you're things at the hotel. That's no problem. Europe is not different as America. We do the same things as you over the ocean.

Only we don't do tipping, only for the roomcleaner.

Ohgosh I've been so stressed about other life stuff (that you know about) and now I've got some of that still going on plus hurry and get ready for this vacation!

That sounds very stressful! :grouphug:

How did sleeping in "the fort" of pillows go? Sounds as if you were woken repeatedly by aftershocks - if you can call a 5 on the Richter an "aftershock"!

We had some fun in the fort and have immense fun at guessing how big the aftershocks are. People are really very stressed so having some fun and a bit of a laugh is important. My colleague today was actually getting physically ill from the stress of the aftershocks :sad2:

We did sleep last night, only got woken about 3 times but it was a little scary at work today to start with until enough people arrived to make the place feel lived a bit more lived in.

We are only a short walk from one of the refuge centres which we walked past at lunchtime. There was a milk tanker dispensing water - its just so surreal.

I know of a number of people who no longer have inhabitable homes, and one poor woman who works at one of our client sites, not only is having her home demolished but she has been robbed twice since the main quake. Some people are scum!

Do you guys remember, if they offer juice at Topsiders breakfast. We are planning on getting his milk there plus -if possible- his juice for the day.

You can definitely get juice at breakfast - I usually have apple too :)

I am struggling along trying to keep up with all the posts :)

I think we'll all agree with that :rotfl2:

90 buildings destroyed downtown, hundreds of others damaged, but NO LOOTING! :worship: to the Kiwis!!!
I guess that means American rap "stars" won't be doing a charity concert! :confused3

Just what we need, a major natural disaster followed but a bunch of rap "stars"! Give me another earthquake instead please :lmao:

Looting was minimal but there are always idiots!

I still have to do my DCL check in too. I don't remember, is there something I have to print out or is it just all done online?

Yes you do have to print a form - the one for the credit card info I think from memory.

What is everyone wearing while doing tours of Barcelona? We are arriving on Friday and going directly to a city tour then to the hotel and to HRC for the meet. I dont know if I shoud wear jeans or capris/shorts
What are your plans of what to wear around town?

I have cargo type pants or light weight jeans and will match it with a long sleeve tshirt most likely. Black slip on shoes most likely rather than sneakers.

::yes:: no porters and luggage carts are free over here and they are by the luggage carasouls once you exit that zone it's just a short walk down (like 1 min if that) an escalator to taxi zone. And just a bit further for the Aerobus. Look for the bus sign.

Thanks - thats very helpful!

I looked at the earthquake pictures and it is amazing more people were not hurt. It looked horrible.

These photos taken at the university are pretty incredible - if it had happened during the day, there would have been numerous deaths. The university is about 20 minutes walk away.

We made it Emiel and Yvette's without any problems. The flight was smooth, the food not so much.

Say "hi" to Yvette and Emiel for me please ;) Wow how wonderful to see the Dream under construction!

I get into the hotel and the room is not ready because in Barcelona they don't do early check in... So my question is, what do I do with my luggage and my pacsafe with my passport and credit cards? Should I ask to put it in the hotel safe? Can I trust the bellhops inside? Will I ever see my luggage again?:upsidedow :upsidedow:upsidedow

As others have said, you should be fine to leave your luggage at the hotel - you are very, very unlikely to have anything stolen from the hotel. Pick pockets on the street maybe but the hotel should be ok. If you would feel safe to do it in a hotel in your own city then it will be fine in Barcelona.

So I can check my three bags at the hotel, but take out my laptop and video camera and lock them in the manager's safe? Does that sound like a plan?:goodvibes

You can ask but it depends if they have that type of thing available, I would leave those items in my luggage as is - they will be fine.

My plan is to get to the hotel, drop off my bags, change my underwear, go eat some breakfast and get the train to Monseratt so I can hear the choir at 1:00 pm. I want to take lots of photos of the grounds and thank God for my safe travel. :cloud9::cloud9:

Then I want to get the train back to Barcelona to La Ramblas and walk around and shop. Eat some tapas. Drink some sangria. Go to the hotel, get a shower and go to HRC. Drink up ye hearties, drink up! Meet some of the folks I've been "talking" to the past two years. Walk/ cab, however over to the fountains. Film that. Get a cab/ whatever back to the hotel and do a face plant into the bed.

Please do the same things as you do in a hotel in New York, You can leave you're things at the hotel. That's no problem. Europe is not different as America. We do the same things as you over the ocean.

Connie

Thank you for that Connie. I'm going to stop stressing. I walk around NYC all the time and let me tell you, EVERYBODY knows I'm a tourist. Look at them tall buildings!!! with my camera around my neck and my phone and wallet tucked safely in my chest. The only time I was ever pick pocketed was in a Philly subway,(when I LIVED there!!!!) hence I've never carried anything in my pockets again when I'm touring.:love:

Thanks for that Paula. I think once I get to the hotel I should be fine. I'll just check my 3 rolling bags and call it a day.

I'm so glad you and your family are okay. What a way to start your vacation. The pictures are really heart wrenching. I'm very grateful that there were no casualties. Like you said, if it had been later in the day we'd have a different story..

I remember after Chile's earthquake the Prime Minister came on tv and said not to send any help, they would take care of themselves, thankyouverymuch. :lovestruc

Brad, Spike Lee and LL Cool J are busy enough with New Orleans and Mississippi, so I hope to keep them here. :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

If I dressed like the naked Barcelona guy...would I look like a tourist?:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

:lmao::lmao:

I don't know, but you certainly wouldn't be pick-pocketed! :lmao::lmao::lmao:

Glad you arrived safe and sound and are beginning to enjoy your vacation!!

Yvette says :wave2:, I am sure Emiel would say the same but he is gone for work.

Glad to hear that overall everything is ok with all things considered after the earthquake.

Jon

For those on my FB, I posted
Pictures of the Barcelona aerobus and taxi line. Nit trying to persuade anyone but just wanting to post how relatively easy it is to use it. Look for the signs. Also, international flights are in Terminal 1. Someone asked can't remember who. Sorry forthe sideways pic. Can't fix here

Hello from Cologne, Germany, where we are having a delightful time with friends. Tomorrow we will leave for Amsterdam for three days.

Looking forward to seeing everyone on board soon.

Woody

Hi Woody. Great to hear from you. Enjoy Amsterdam, it is a lovely place. See you next week!!

OK, I'm getting worried about this thread. Nobody has posted for over 2 hours, and that was me!!!!

I know some of you are asleep right now, but where are all the Brits? Packing? Swimming? Gym?

I have a few bookings to get done today - one being flights for our next trip in January. Goodness they have gone up in price.

Laura, thanks for putting the Aerobus information on this thread. We're gonna do it! I put in a call to Praktik Rambla and they said they were a block away from the stop so we're just gonna suck it up and do it. We've only got 2 suitcases each (and maybe a shoulder bag with the laptop) and they roll easily so there you go!

Marilyn, I now understand what international travelers (non-US folks) go through when trying to find flights to the states!

Michael
