For anyone stayiing at Praktik Rambla who is worried about baggage weight I checked with the Praktik Rambla and they have hairdryers in every room, so thats on less thing to bring :thumbsup2

Thank for checking. I hope they have an elevator as just eliminating a my hair driver isn't going to make it enough for all my stuff. May need to cut the number of books I planned to read on the trip down to 15. Val

Wow ...Part 8 soon ...
TAKE WHAT YOU CAN !!!!

pirate:

GIVE NOTHING BACK!!

Thanks for the link to part 8!! Hey - can you change the website email address to photos@transatlanticpirates.com? We have that one set up and it gets to Glenn and I that way! Also, since roll call is a form, can you remove the what to send stuff too? LOL - the roll call changes how many threads ago? I should take my own advice and read post 1!

---------------------------------------------

I have updated post one here in thread 7, and have also put the FE, Shirt shipping info, Tasting and dining rotations out on Part 8.

Krissann - can you send me a copy of the spreadsheet for the strawberries so I can get it uploaded? Thanks!!!

I was actually going to ask about the adapters. I'm sure it's written on them somewhere (once I find them) but exactly which one will we need for Barcelona? The little two round prongy thingy? Or the really big three plug thingy?

Great information! Thanks for sharing it. Did you mention who you booked that combo ticket through? Any link for the lazy/overworked??

Remember that the adapters only change the shape of the plug (in this case, you need the "little two round prongy thingy." :rotfl2: You need to check whatever you're going to plug into the outlet; Spain uses 240V/50Hz (like UK and, as I recall, Australia - USA uses 110-120/60Hz). So, if what you're plugging in can't accept the higher voltage - most laptop adapters and phone chargers do - then you need a *converter* rather than an adapter. Otherwise, say good bye to your blow dryer, etc. :scared1:

Here's the link for Gibraltar: http://www.gibraltarinfo.gi/gibraltar-tickets.aspx

Apologies if anyone has already answered these; I've been off the Board for a couple of days and am just now trying to catch up!

I am hoping to join all of you. John is still unsure but I will keep you posted. Shall I park at the Fairmont or is there better parking?

Noel - I hope you can join us - it sounds like such fun!!. We usually park at the Fairmont but might try the Masonic if we can get in. We've had to wait a while to get our car at the hotel and the price was $15 an hour. The Masonic is on California, about a block away, across from Grace Cathedral, it is $8 an hour. The Grace Cathedral parking is on Taylor, between California and Sacramento - a bit more of a hike - at $7.50 an hour. Hope to see you.

I'm in the Thyroid club too! I've been taking Synthroid since I was 12 - I'm 30 now. It enjoys varying and messing with my weight (which doesn't need help to be messed with at all). Besides the thyroid problem, I also have PCOS which also makes it very hard to lose weight. I'm going to one my doctor's on Monday and I'm planning on talking to her about my lack of weight loss even though I've been on Weight Watchers and watching my weight for over a year now.

Can't believe we're almost on part 8! :thumbsup2

I am in the same situation, but didn't find out about both until I was in my early twenties.

Breathtaking!!

I remember as a young kid taking family vacations... We lived just NW of Chicago and we would leave mid morning, drive all day, drive all night, and wake up to see the mountains...

Awesome sight!! Thanks for sharing!!

Since I'm in the middle of switching from Charter to Verizon Fios, (on my phone) what time does the ship actually depart from Barcelona? By the time I find the answer, someone here will have been able to relay the info.

Is anyone flying in the day of? Working on something and may need to get a last minute flight in.

TIA

now what else do you have up your sleeve???
I'm getting in late night on Friday, not the day of, sorry.

OK - all you seasoned travelers... Need some help please!!

We are trying to figure out our first day in Barcelona. I think we are down to 2 options...

1. Taxi to the hotel, drop luggage and grab the HOHO bus and see how the kids do - get off where they want, or just ride and take photos, etc.

2. Half day tour - pick up at airport, drop at hotel, see the sites, etc. and hope that the kids do OK for the 4-8 hours depending on the tour.

Questions on number one... There appear to be 2 different buses - seems odd - anyone know for sure - and is one one better than the other? The internet prices seem good for the 2 day pass - has anyone booked this online before - and were there any issues? Where can you start - at any stop, or are there certain stops that you have to "start" at? And lastly, does anyone know if there is a stop for the HOHO near the Praktik Ramblas?

Questions on number two... Walt (Walt & Di) kindly sent me info (THANKS!!!) for the 8 hour tour. When I looked on the website, they say they stop from 5-30 minutes per attraction. Is that enough time? Is anyone doing a shorter tour? (I am not sure that the kids will last 8 hours...)

Thanks gang!! I appreciate the assistance! This is one of the last things I need to take care of in Barcelona...

I tried to submit the form for my roll call a few weeks ago, but didn't know the password. I didn't see it in the first few pages of the thread, so I gave up. Can't remember why I didn't just ask here? But I was probably on my way out or something.

Regarding getting the biggest bang for your buck, some of you may remember that I purchased a Disney gift card at DisneyStore.com with a card that gives me cashback AND via MrRebates.com. That was great free money ($35)!

Yesterday I called DCL and had the GC applied to my OBC, so I don't have to worry about loosing it. I need to purchase another hefty GC for the remainder of my budgeted OBC needs doing the same thing, although the rate on ebates.com is great right now than I can get on MrRebates.com. So if you're looking to stretch that dollar and get points on your plastic, I would recommend this idea.

Let me understand this. You purchase a gift card on your CC, so you earn points. Then you turn around and apply the gift card to your ship account for OBC?

You also buy the gift card through Mr.Rebates and earn money from there as well?

Please let me know if I have this correct. If I do I am off to explore mrrebates.

In regards to your question #1, if the HoHo bus is the open air bus that takes you past most of the touristy spots then yes, there are two buses. One takes you to the close spots around central Barcelona and the other one takes you further out. In the middle of Las Ramblas is a booth that you can buy a ticket (s) and you can start there or you can start at the top of Las Ramblas where El Cortes Ingles is. You can buy your ticket when you first board at whatever stop you grab it at. Yes, the hop on hop off bus allows you access to stop whenever you want. I will tell you though that the bus stop at Sagrada Familia is always packed. So be aware of that and also of your pockets. Is super easy to get jostled there. All the stops are pretty well marked and the circuit take a bit. I used in back in 2007 and we went passed the royal gardens, to areas I wasn't even aware of. Not sure if this helps but hopefully Sept should not be as crowded as when we went. Also, some stores may be closed as I believe this is when many Spaniards take a holiday. Everything around Las Ramblas should be pretty much open.

Hopes this helps you some.

Get an Ipad and download your books into that. Dh and DBil are. Dh says he love reading with it.

We do not want to scare folks off. :rotfl2:

Yep, that's how it looked when Di and I rode to Sturgis last year :thumbsup2

Walt :cool1:

My brother was at Sturgis as well. Were you there for the horrible storm or was that this year? Shame they all run together.

We are doing option 2. We are being picked up at the airport and doing a 4 hour tour. We chose what we wanted to stop and see. Then we are eithe going to aqua for dinner or for tapas to a place we went to last time we were there.
