What are all the US folks doing for 4th of July? We're headed to the Ft. Meade fireworks tonight. DH works as a planner for MDW, so I go to my fair share of military events - luckily he has nothing to do for this one so he's not working!

I got a great semi-formal/cocktail dress at Kohl's yesterday. Between their sales and my 20% coupon, I got it for $20. It's crepe on top and stretchy on bottom, so it doesn't wrinkle and seems perfect for the cruise (and folds up to nothing).

Now, just need to stay up until 12:01 to make reservations tonight. Am I the only first-time cruiser doing this?

This was what I was thinking but the majority prefer the 1 room for changes thing as it saves time for those with changes

With so many of us in multiople groupings it could take a day to check in everywhere!! LOL

I doubt that you are the only one! Most that are on DIS would probably stay up or set an alarm for this. People not in the know or that are but don't care would probably wait until onboard...

DH plays with a local marching concert band. They do parades, concerts in the park and one big concert in the spring. This weekend he is in three concerts. Tonight they will perform their usual July 4th concert. It is always fun to go and listen. They always end with Stars and Stripes which gets to me every time they play.

It is the second oldest Community Concert Band in the US.

Happy Fourth of July!!

We went to the dress rehearsal of the Capital Fourth that will be aired on PBS tonight at 8 last night. We have been doing this for 15 years and the crowd has been about half of what it is on the 4th. Well, not last night. I don't know if it is the economy or the fact that it was a beautiful evening, but for the first time since we have been going there were almost as many people as on the 4th. The show was wonderful and if you get a chance tonight you might want to consider watching it. Reba McIntyre was awesome as was Lang Lang. Don't want to give too much away, but it was one of the best shows we have seen in the 15 years we have been going.

DD #4 is visiting me in Virginia for a couple of weeks. Yesterday we spent the afternoon at the National Museum of the Marine Corps. Today, we're headed to Colonial Williamsburg for their special Independence Day celebrations and fireworks. Tomorrow we'll be going to King's Dominion for a long, HOT day! King's Dominion is admitting US military for free today and tomorrow, so we're taking advantage of it!

Hope everyone has a safe and fun holiday. :woohoo:

sounds like you're all having fun times!:cool1:

I think lightweight and easy to pack is the key definitely ... I have seen some nice dresses in shops but if they feel heavy on the hanger when I hold them up then I put them back.

Yes, know what you mean, I bought a maxi dress the other day but it is pretty heavy....maybe I'll wear it on the flight!:thumbsup2

So much of my evening wear is GAUZE! Lightweight and the wrinkles don't really show! :woohoo:

I would really like it if my wrinkles didn't show! :rotfl:

I can't wait for this cruise either. I'm going to go shopping today. Going to pick up magnetic paper and maybe look at a really lightweight piece of luggage. A new swimsuit. New Crocs to break in.

Happy cruise shopping!:cool1:

Not just the Spanish Main, luv. The entire ocean. The entire wo'ld. Wherever we want to go, we'll go. That's what a ship is, you know. It's not just a keel and a hull and a deck and sails, that's what a ship needs but what a ship is... what the Black Pearl really is... is Freedom

Happy Fourth of July mates !!

TAKE WHAT YOU CAN !!!

Welcome aboard and step right in. :)

I think most people are staying in the Las Ramblas area especially those coming in a few days early. We don't speak any Spanish either but I'm a whiz at charades. I've mimed "bandaids" in Cambodia, "fly spray" in Vietnam and any one of a dozen other requests in all kinds of countries :rotfl:

In terms of what to do, I got a copy of the Lonely Planet's guide to Barcelona and we will be visiting a number of locations around the city including a couple of the museums. We'll be using the metro which is very cheap and apparently easy to get around but many are using the hop-on hop-off bus.

I booked directly with the hotel (Praktik Rambla) and they answered a couple of questions very quickly. I think they were pretty fully booked though last time I checked.

Paula,
Sorry I didn't send this earlier. I am still trying to figure out the navagation on this site. I haven't determined how to place multiple quotes and responses on one message.

Thanks so much for the info about Barcelona, especially the hotel. I will certainly look into the Lonely Planet's guide.

Yes I am...I was a gymnast and a cheerleader growing up all the way through college...and now, part time, I work at a gymnastics academy here in Rochester and am the tumbling coach for the cheer program at one of our local high schools (national champions this past year, actually :thumbsup2)

Haley says "That's SWEET!" She is all about gymnastics. Bella probably has more natural talent but doesn't care as much. Congratulations on the championship that's very impressive.:worship:

Here is a really great link to a site someone posted some time ago. It is a very interactive site on Barcelona.

HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!!

We were going to head to the beach today because our friends have a beach house and we were going to spend the night - it is pouring - as those in Central Florida know. I think this is the first Fourth it rained in a long time. Donna, thanks for the tip on the DC show. I used to go all the time when I was a teenager - loved the Fourth in DC. Last year we went to Boston and that was pretty awesome too.

Sarah - I will e-mail you the med list.

Second formal night at Topsiders sounds good to me - post it!!! I think there are only 3-4 groups, but it will be a blast!

Have a great day everyone and enjoy the fireworks!

Noel - thanks for the recommendation on De Martini. Robert has a dr appt. at Stanford in a couple of weeks, a perfect opportunity to check them out.

We go to the Farmer's Market at Alemany. It is in the city where 101 and 280 south meet. It use to be the wholesale produce market site before they moved s. of market. We have gone to the ferry building market, which is a really fun excursion. I shop for the "dull" vegetables and Bob goes for the sexy fruit. It is the end of the cherry season. Next week we'll start seeing the melons.

Have you done the Sam's Castle tour in Pacifica? I understand they only open it to the public once a year. This year the tours are the first weekend in August.

Happy 4th. Val

Thank you!

Ill add the Topsiders meal to the navigator anyway as you never know people might decide to skip the formal for a group meal!

Any consensus on a time?

I sign in and there are tons of pages - lots of good talking! Why don't we all meet in the Promenade Lounge or Sessions and have a drink and talk about room numbers that way we can do it all at once instead of people running all over the place. Don't forget the room numbers for the scrapbook exchange and the medications! Okay...just my thoughts (stealing Noel's line).
WOW - we're doing a medication exchange too?? :lmao:

Totally up to you - I wasn't sure who all was doing what. If you want it on the list, just send me the details. All I remember was I promised Benadryl - probably more likely to be Claritin as Becca does better with that... Not sure what else I signed up for... I feel like I travel with a pharmacy... :rotfl2:
I DO travel with a pharmacy! Reminding me I need to hurry up and make an appointment with my MD to get my usual travel prescriptions that I won't use but I don't travel without. Guess that comes with being a pharmacist - I want to be prepared for everything! :thumbsup2

Everyone on this thread has been so supportive and generous in so many ways, that I almost want to commit High Heresy....

So, sorry, Cap'n, I was wonderin' if you'd mind if the rallyin' cry of this here cruise became:

GIVE WHAT YA CAN!

and the reply

ACCEPT SUMPTIN' BACK!

I know, I know - it's not the pirate code, but somehow....... pirate::littleangel:

just a thought.... :rolleyes1
MUTINY!! MUTINY!! (But I still like it! :thumbsup2)

My wife and I have started looking at clothes for the trip and I was surprised :lmao: to find that we are both taking 4 pairs of shoes (I‘m wearing sketchers, bringing running shoes, dress shoes and sandals). My wife has three times the shoes I have in the closet. How about you? How many shoes are you bringing? Guys? Ladies?
I haven't started the whole packing process yet so I have no idea :scared1: but I've been threatened that it can't be as many pairs as I took on the EBPC. Doesn't seem fair since I was only on board 15 nights then and I've got 24 nights this time. But going from having a cabin to yourself to having a roommate does make a difference, I guess. I just don't see how 19 pairs of shoes was excessive though!! :rolleyes1

Which reminds me can I have at least a preview version for the 1st copy of the navigator we're gonna release early August? I don't need it til the end of the month but thought I better mention it.
I like the idea of a preview copy!

Happy Independence Day!

Been really busy but trying to keep up with all the cruise news. Having just booked about two weeks ago, it's not quite real yet but I better start some serious planning before August which is solidly booked--a trip to the BVI for some beach time, friends visiting from the UK and then a quick trip to Denver to see my sister before we take my son back to college in Massachusetts on Labor Day weekend...Whew!

Connie, I was concerned about this, too. I think there may be a trademark issue if we use Mickey on the pin and Disney isn't getting a cut (percentage). The pin company can probably give you a reading on this.

Then we must think about two pirates or nothing, i will ask the company's.

Noel, thanks for telling about the pin.

I haven't seen a deck plan but did see one where people were posting on a Google map where they lived.

There may have a been a sample deck plan posted from a previous cruise with the staterooms blocked off where DISers are staying. We had one on the EBPC. I have not heard if anyone is making one for this cruise.

I was going to attempt to make one for the navigator but I just haven't found time to even look at the logistics of it!

Thanks for the recommendation. I looked at the site and I am sure it will be a great resource.

The you type after each [/quote] symbol.

Once you are finished with all the responses you click on "submit reply"

Hope this helps and that is clearer then mud.

Noel - Thanks for the PacSafe strap for Bob's camera. We will be looking into it ASAP. His using his new camera is one thing he most looks forward to on his trip. He is still editing and ordering some of the 1,000 plus pictures he took on our Alaska cruise last month. val
