I completely agree re using a TA versus doing everything yourself. We had the opportunity to use points/get points on the credit card using USAA, so that was the most economical. They were fantastic to work with, though, with doing the discount.

I've never used USAA to book a cruise, though I love going through their website to get travel insurance. It's cheaper, and the customer service seems better, since TravelEx has a dedicated customer service number and people for USAA customers.

As long as I have been with USAA, I did not know about the trip insurance. drats..another lost penny or two!

I will check out the travel agency next time. Their jewerly is always splendid! Sometimes I think their Holiday catalog is for the whos who, and I dont know them. I look at some of the items and say.. "Even though DH has everything, this is not something I would even consider"

Thanks for the info, I will be certain to check USAA out in the future.

Hey everyone :) I just got caught up on this new thread. I just skimmed it so if there is anything I need to react to, please let me know.
Welcome to all the newbies! Hugs to anyone who needs them
Here is the day I've had: My History Midterm exam essay was due today. I printed off the directions from the site and thought it was crazy that I had to answer 11 questions all with 2-3 paragraph essays!! But I buckled down and got to work. Amand came home around 530 and I started expalining on how horrible I thought it was that I had to do all these essays questions. She asked if maybe I had misread the instructions. Of course I had and I only had to do one! I had 10 of 11 completed btw. All that stress for nothing! Going forward, I'll make sure I read the instructions twice.

Have a great weekend everyone :)

Annette

Now you get to choose the best one. Good luck.

I'm in awe of all of you who are planning on bringing your beautiful dress-up clothes (the pics of those 2 dresses are gorgeous, btw; personally would go w/the straps since the "girls" need some support, iykwim). DH is still not wanting to bring any kind of formal wear, so I guess we'll be doing Topsiders like Paula (hey Paula, want company?).

You (or anyone else) is always welcome to join us whenever you see us around the ship. We are always happy to have a bit of a chat or snack, meal, dessert with other Disers. Some of the best times on the EBPC was just hanging with other Disers for a few minutes. :)

I am with you and Paula at Topsiders. We do one formal, but not two. Abby will be dressed in a gown with tiara, but I will just have on a dress. Going back to our conversation before - love jet fuel, hate dress up! :rotfl2:

Sounds like we have the makings of a group dinner :rotfl:

We are coming in to Barcelona on the 14th and need help deciding where to stay and what to do. We have traveled in the US and on Disney cruises but never Europe and we don't speak anything but English. Disney lovers are the best so I feel ok reaching out for your help and asking you to share your knowledge with us.
Bob & Val

Welcome aboard and step right in. :)

I think most people are staying in the Las Ramblas area especially those coming in a few days early. We don't speak any Spanish either but I'm a whiz at charades. I've mimed "bandaids" in Cambodia, "fly spray" in Vietnam and any one of a dozen other requests in all kinds of countries :rotfl:

In terms of what to do, I got a copy of the Lonely Planet's guide to Barcelona and we will be visiting a number of locations around the city including a couple of the museums. We'll be using the metro which is very cheap and apparently easy to get around but many are using the hop-on hop-off bus.

Thanks to all of you for the warm welcome. As recommended, I looked on the list of fellow cruisers and where they are staying. I see many of you are staying at the Praktik Rambla. Any recommendations of that particular hotel and info on where to book?

Thanks again. Appreciate all the help (does anyone know how to drop 40 pounds by the cruise?). Let me know if you want any info from me for the many lists I see someone has been kind enough to create.

I booked directly with the hotel (Praktik Rambla) and they answered a couple of questions very quickly. I think they were pretty fully booked though last time I checked.

I was thinking maybe we could have 1 person per fish extender group with a noteboard on their door that would say the room changes for that group. If they themselves moved rooms they would need to notify just the people in their groups so not too many, and the others in the group would be able to find the rooms easily by starting off here.

I think a central location would be good if possible - I think everyone doing the candy swap is also a FE gift participant.

I am confused:confused3. Why would you do topsiders on formal night? I have seen people come to dinner is a wide variety of attire on formal night.

Just to save dressing up really. Means we can just go to dinner without changing from what we have worn during the day.

I agree with Woody, I don't think I would want my cabin number posted for all to see that is not dis. What about if the person that has their cabin changed or upgraded, takes charge of their cabin and informs the people that need informing, FE list, secret Mickey, tastings, etc. That way you are responsible for yourself instead of someone that has 100 names be responsible for everybody. It might be easier!

The only issue is having to notify multiple people of a cabin change - is that it would take a lot more time to notify everyone involved with that group.

If someone could have a central list and everyone contacts that person if their cabin changes then those doing FE drops or whatever can just check that one location first before doing their gift drop.

I think as long as a public list had "Dis name" and not real name there aren't really any safety concerns.

So, I have about 70 people between my groups. I am willing to have the central place, along with groups printed - that way people can grab a list and then make note of the cabin moves right then. Not a problem at all! I don't mind dong the others if you will send me the finished lists. I will just have a FE envelope, a Secret Mickey envelope and a Candy Swap envelope. Easy!

Good Morning everyone. Hope you don't mind another last minute joiner. Yesterday we found this great deal on this cruise and decided we couldn't pass up the opportunity. I booked my cabin and air ticket. Now I'm in a panic. HELP

Look forward to meeting all of you and sharing the excitement of planning for this cruise. Oh, we live in San Francisco so if any of you are coming to the west coast when the Wonder is here next year we would be happy to share info about our side of the country. We just came back from an Alaska cruise and have learned so much about that beautiful state.

:welcome: This is such a great group. I'm Stephanie and this is my 60th birthday cruise. I'm traveling with my spa twin Terry who is also turning 60. (after all, we're twins):goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes

Hello again all! I haven't posted much but have been following along eagerly. Best wishes to all who have been under the weather for a speedy and complete recovery.

Thanks to those who caught the military rate discounts coming out. I wasn't sure if we could get it since we booked through USAA, but called this morning anyway. I figured what was the worst that would happen; I'd just be in exactly the same spot I was before. So I called and (drum roll, please) managed to save over $1500. DH was thrilled.

Anyway, I hope to be able to post more, but I am lurking.

Sarah, DH (Greg) and I (Erica) will be celebrating our first anniversary (9/5, but celebrating on the cruise).
:welcome: back!:goodvibes:goodvibes

I would love to drop 40 pounds b cruise time. Please let me know. Thanks!:cool1::cool1:

Got Patrick's birthday!

Any volunteers?????

Also would need one for the list of Secrete Mickey Participants and one for the Postcard Exchange I guess as well
I don't mind for the whatever group I'm in. We are category 4 and the odds of us getting a free upgrade to the Walt Suite are sorta nil, so we know our cabin number won't change!!!

I really don't think you have to speak much other than English! You can always point at what youwant!

Oh, good, you can keep an eye on our younger son,Michael, who is in an internship at a law firm in Palo Alto!

Bob & Val

How about starting a new FE Gift exchange group with us? They are doing groups of about 15, and I am sure we will get 15 new cruisers before the actual date comes around!

:lmao::lmao::lmao:

I don't even want the Walt Suite, all I want is a stateroom with a verandah! Not too much to ask, is it?

OK...I've been off the boards for the week and I had over 40 pages on Thread #6 and 16 here to catch up on (plus all the other threads I follow...yipes!!). I have skimmed (and I do mean SKIM) all the pages. I am back now and will get back into posting in the next several hours.

I know some people have emailed and PMed me with updates for the lanyard list or to request lanyards for the trip. I will be getting to all those emails and PMs in the next several hours, too!

Had to finish catching up first now we have to find something to eat and I have to rest my poor eyes!!! :lmao:

Glad to see you back!!! I know we have really been chatting up a storm. Guess it because with the cruise getting so much closer, we are all getting excited.

I don't think there is any room under the door but someone will correct me if I am wrong.

Yup... we get out last bill under the door. Our neighbors have their's proped up against the door. You should have heard the thud when it hit the floor!:lmao:

Annie:surfweb:

Cool. Its fairly complete but I keep adding things as people come up with new ideas etc.

Also anyone who hasn't told me about a celebration they would like in the list please do so!

Glenn my Hubby turns 49 the day we depart Barcelona. Poor guy will be so jet lag. He does not sleep on planes at all. :(

Questions for anyone who has used Disney before for their travel: I am assuming we'll be doing an overnight flight, so any idea what time we'll be arriving in Barcelona? Will there be time for some touring? Is that even a good idea? TIA.

We are arriving at 7:25 am on the tour to the ship I think I still might be sleeping :cloud9::laughing:

So do you turn in one or all 11? Great minds are wondering.....popcorn::

We didn't have a Mini Navigator on the Baltic, but there were so many room changes that we planned a meet the first sea day in Sessions to organize room numbers. Then one person had a sheet of paper attached to the stateroom door for people to go by and check and change their own lists. Helped a whole lot!

I was just thinking about that what if people get upgraded how will will know I remember we were going to have a white board is that still happening?

My DH (love him anyway) will not bring his suit this time. For "formal" and "semi formal" nights he will agree to wear his nice silk shirt(no tie) and his nice linen sports jacket ..... oh, and black shoes ( not tennis shoes).

MEN!

MY hubby wears what I pack him :) But seriously he does not put up a fuss cause he does it for me. He does dress up cause he loves me and know it is important to me :)

Wear this outfit.

Woody

Well that made me truly laugh :lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:

Well have no idea were you wearing a hat? Most birds are afraid so that is just weird. The worse is google is not your friend either could not find any ideas to stop a bird from attacking a person :confused3

So if you do not like the cat idea they also suggest owls. So here you go.

There are some clips on you tube and you can buy the cast recording online so you can enjoy a flavour of the show. It features all new music (non from the original films) and is written in disco style.

WELCOME to all you new join-ees it's never to late to join in the fun.

SW

Thank you for posting the link! The show looks amazing and it seems like it's going to make it's way over to Broadway in the near future! I can't wait!

I went to see Toy Story 3 for a second time today. I went with my sister because she hadn't seen it yet. This time I was prepared with extra tissues and passed one to her just in time! I like to call the ending happy-sad. It's a great movie and Disney/Pixar did it again!
