I'm off to Disneyland Paris in a couple of weeks time for 4 days .... maybe i should just admit defeat now,

after taking 4 days away i'll miss about 50 pages and countless underwear themed conversation. :rotfl:

Sorry to go of subject for a moment I know there is a whole board dedicated to Disneyland Paris, but well this cruise starts in europe ... and Paris is in europe.... OK tenuious link, Just humour me :)

Yes the train is the way to go, a little over 2 hours from leaving London you’re pulling into the Disney Resort, or the centre of Paris. I know a few people are put off by the thought of the tunnel but it really is a breeze. You are only in it for 22 minutes or so, on the way back I normally sleep through it.

Paris is beautiful, for all you DISers who have grown up with a romanticised view of the city, due to TV and Films, I can confirm it really IS like that. It’s full of amazing little discoveries hidden courtyards, squares with wonderful fountains and quaint back streets with little cafes and bars.

The Disneyland Paris Resort is a gem too. The Disneyland Park is the most beautiful Magic Kingdom of them all, the attention to details and theming is just unreal, and, due to the benefit of more than 30 years experience and a huge budget, their versions of the classic Disney rides like Big Thunder Mountain, and Pirates are the best.

The neighbouring Walt Disney Studios park was built on a more “modest” scale and budget, and suffers from a lack of size, questionable layout, and depth of theming but it still has a few wonderful attractions and is a worthy, and more relaxing, day.

The resort is perfect for a short break with 3 or 4 nights you can comfortably see the best of Disney and maybe even a day in the city. The 6 themed Disney hotels are all located a short walk from the 2 theme parks which themselves are just a few hundred yards apart. meaning you can walk everywhere.

If you are on a tighter budget several good neighbour hotels offer more affordable lodging and are still very close to the parks making commuting easy.

It certainly is a different experience than the American Parks, but one that offers Europeans the chance to experience a flavour of Disney without the investment of time and money required to visit Walt Disney World or Disneyland.

This sounds wonderful. I have relatives in France and would love to get over there. Don't ask where in France because I don't know. They are my Grandfathers family (my moms side of the family), and I have never had an oppertunity to meet them.

I am one that has romanticised Paris. I want to see the Eifle Tower at night when it is all lit up... I cild go on and on... DH probably thinks we should go to DL USA first, as we haven't been there. But for those of you that have read his posts that contain his opinions of what I want to do , you probably guess that I get what I want in the end, or that he sleeps on the couch a lot... :rotfl2::rotfl2:

Stashing all of this away for our trip to Paris in a few years... Getting the hint Honey? LOL :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

We are spending 3 nights at the Disneyland Hotel before heading to Barcelona---and I can't wait to see the park--and Paris too:)

Somewhere in my bottomless pit of a house, I have that pin - sillver metal with 3D feel to it. Came with the original metal back? Weren't they given out as a CC gift? Or did we have to buy them?

We just came from the Brea Mall, saw a queue line that was in front of Victoria's Secret and just assumed it was for their bra sale (hey! Ladies out here in CA are  for Vickie's stuff. ;) Anyway, took us a 3rd time of hearing clapping and whisltes to realize it wasn't for bras (DD thought they may have been having a fashion show until we realized that the line which was wrapped almost around the entire downstairs mall was for the new iphone4. Think I'll order mine online and wait for delivery. I'm not in that much of a hurry.

Bought my DD a shirt from JcPenny (Jr's Dept) with this saying - I'm not short - I'm fun size. :rotfl2:

The Capt. Tom pin I had to buy unfortunately, but I think it is the same one. Also, I noticed you said Brea Mall. We have dear friends that live in Brea and when we visit, we love The Hat. I can taste the pastrami now. Is that by you?

I will have to look for the shirt in Penny's - thanks for the heads up!

Welcome Andrea! Glad you and your family joined in the fun!

Sue - so sorry to hear about your tooth. I hate when things like that happen.

Erik - I talked to Doris about the luggage and she said one bag - 50 lbs. and most likely Delta, but you probably know all that.

Hope everyone up north is surviving those terrible storms.

Last I talked to her she didn't have any definite details although she "guessed" that same thing. My issue is that we are definitely NOT going to be able to travel with just one bag each. I'm hoping we can do it with 3 checked bags between the 2 of us and then one carry on a piece (Jason carrying lanyards and whatever else we can fit in his back pack and me carrying all our important papers, camera, laptop and possibly some spare clothes). So my biggest concern is knowing what, if any, restrictions there are on carry on weight and then also to knwo the fee for our 3rd bag.

Eric,

Just wanted to put 2 cents in - I have NOT booked with DCL airfare however, just returned from Spain, France and London in April and they (here and there) are pretty stringent. (School Tour) We were allowed 1 bag up to 50 #'s. $100 for 2nd bag and if you went over it was automatic $50 surcharge. And...they are like DCL, in other words, I was over 1/4 lb and the ticket agent let me take something out. However, the person following me in line had to pay $50 for going ove 2.5 lbs. Boy was she mad.

I know your asking for DCL but the generally the info is the same. The airlines are a lot worse than they were in 2009. 50#. Then from 51 # to 74 - its another $50 and anything after that you have to use ground/air shipping. They are stringent and even worse coming from there to here - good thing we aren't using them. I've noticed that from USA to there - they don't always count carry-ons, but from over there, they sometimes do - depends on who's watching. Once we got past security - you were pretty much free. Sorry - just putting my two sense.

OK...that's helpful, too. We will definitely not be over 50# per bag. Jason and I actually pack bags and set our own limit of 45# just to be safe and we NEVER go over...so I'm confident we'll have bags under 50#...my issue is just that we'll have one 50# bag each and then a 3rd shared bag (rolling garment bag)----so it sounds like this 3rd bag is allowed we'll jsut have to pay for it...and honestly i don't even really care how much we have to pay as long as we can bring it!

I couldnt agree ,ore. I waited on the 15th for 2 hours in the AT&T store because their system was down. Then I tried on line all day. Finally I tried at home and got on to preorder. I am now waiting for mine. My son got his yesterday and loves it.

They actually weighed our carry on luggage. If you check with the airline they will tell you the max weight of carry on. They meant it to. My bag was over becasue my camera was in it. I had to take it out and carry it around my neck (made no sense to me) When I got to the gate I put it back in my bag. I just could not believed they weighed our carry on as wel as our checked.

We are past PIF and cancellation date, so I think an upgrade would be unlikely. We were offered and accepted an upgrade at what we felt was a great rate, under $3K additional.

Wonder when room assignments will be made... That might help to fill the gap for the cat 8. Not so sure about the Walt... may have to stalk whoever is in it...:cool2:
I think we're still outside of the cancellation date for non-suites. We were able to rebook our cruises today with no issues or problems.

Wanted to add, For anyone with Visual Impairments, St Michaels Cave is very dark in places and so a torch is a MUST! I forgot mine last time I regretted it!

For clarification, when you say "torch" do you mean torch as in flaming stick or club, or do you mean torch as in flashlight?

I am so excited today! Thanks to someone's heads up on here I found out that they'd opened up military discount rates yesterday (I'd been checking daily for a month or more but hadn't yet checked yesterday until I saw it mentioned.) $999/$799/$599 per adult for Cat 6/Cat 9/Cat 11 respectively, and $399 per child. My fabulous FIL (retired Navy) who will be on the ship with us, rebooked at these rates, giving up his assigned Cat 5 cabin for a Cat 6 GTY, and rebooked our room as well, saving us over $900 and we upgraded from Cat 10 GTY to Cat 6 GTY in the process! And we didn't lose any of our Palo or other ressies (though we did both lose the rebooking benefits and DCL OBC.) Yea!! More money for tastings, pictures, drinks, excursions and SPA treatments!!!

That's great! Money back and a verandah! :cool1:

Congrats. I had no idea. Since both DH and I are retired Air Force, maybe I should give them a shout tomorrow. I think we are in a Cat 6 now. I will take whatever saving I can.:thumbsup2

Another The Hat lover here. I haven't been to the one in Brea but lived just up the street from the one in Glendora for quite a few years. VERY tasty pastrami!!

Even though you booked with DCL, your allowances will be determined by the individual airline. I know that on our EBPC 08--baggage fees were really just starting to appear and quite a few of us were "grandfathered" with our limits, because it went by the purchase date of the actual ticket--not the day they booked or paid their cruise fare to DCL. To me it is aggravating--I would rather a ticket cost more than adding charges, but I guess all in all it is a fairer system to pay for what you use.

From what I know on Delta, the don't weight carry on - unless something has change din the past 30 days. Also - they allow a carry on and 1 personal item - laptop bab, purse, etc. I confirmed this with Delta last week (the amounts - not the weight thing) as I wanted to make sure we were good with 4 carry ons, my purse, a backpack and Glenns camera backpack... According to them we were fine. So as long as they are more consistent than DCL you should be good to go!

You should, but I wouldn't delay. They say that they limit the military rates to 50 rooms, sometimes by category, and other times by cruise. 2 adults in a Cat 6 GTY is $2,136 (Cat 7 GTY is the same price as well for some reason). You can see these prices online using the MTO booking code. The cruise does not appear as an option under the Military rate special page yet, so you have to be looking for it to find it.

Wow huge savings, or is that per person?

$2,136.60 is the total cost for 2 adults at the Military rates including taxes, but excluding insurance or transfers. ($999/adult for Cat 6 plus taxes.) The non-discounted cost for a Cat 6 on the DCL site tonight is $5,056.60, so that's a savings of $2,920 or a 58% discount!

Chip and Dale!!! Oh my... I had tears rolling down my face:lmao:

M4travels: Glendora! DH and I grew up a few miles away in La Puente. But we moved away more then 30 years ago. Im still a California girl at heart.

Su: hope you get well quickly, nothing is more irratating then dental problems.
A big MAHALO to you for all the work you have done on the t-shirts.

Erik: Another big MAHALO to you and Jason for all the work you are and have done on the lanyards!:worship:

Ok... so Ive been missing for awhile. Life goes on and on, and things change in a hurry. Dh and I spent a few days in Phoenix. Had some great dinners. (Ok.. we dont have big name eateries here, 1 Chile's.)
Dh spent time at the Muhammad Ali Center, where he was diagnosed with Parkinson's.:sad2: Wow, can life change in a blink of an eye.
Changes are being made and meds are added and more Dr's appointment.
Hardest part is Phoenix is a 4 hr drive! One way!:headache: If I wanted to drive 4 hrs... I would go west and be at Disneyland!!!:cool1: Oh , thats right, I have to wait till November for that!:cool1:
So anyway...meds are very costly and if one doesnt work, try another costly one! There is lots of hope and new studies are going on all the time.
If life gives you lemons... just make some lemon jello shots and have a party!:rotfl: Life is still good!
