You are too funny!!!

Last weekend I was able to talk my husband into booking the Med cruise right before our TA (it took lots of convincing). But...I called Disney and they let us transfer our "pre-Barcelona" hotel nights (3) and apply it to the Med cruise. In the end, we only had to pay an extra $1628 for myself, my dh and dd (8). My mom and ds (12) cruise only cost them a total of $874 extra after their pre-cruise stay in Barcelona was credited.
I also tried to recoup the fuel surcharge as many of you did, but was denied. I was told that it was great that we have the OBC. Kinda like, "Look on the bright side.."

Also, has anyone booked airfare through DCL. I was just wondering when we would find out which airline, flight times, etc. I have heard mixed reviews, but hopefully they will give us a good flight.

Lastly, just wanted to say thanks to all of you, (especially those I see here posting every day), for all of the great info you have. You all do so much reaearch and all of your tips are great! I have been reading these posts since our PC crossing in 2008, so it only took my 2 yrs to join. Thanks again!

Congrats on taking the Med cruise. I wish DH could take that much time off but alas, not until he is retired.

I have never used DCL airfare so I can't comment other than I have read they often have you fly in the same day as the cruise. However, with you having a pre-cruise with DCL, I would suspect they would have you fly in the first day of your hotel ressies.

Some of us who are retired or not working have more time to research. I know when my kids were younger I would have never had the time to even lurk on these boards!

You guys are chatty, chatty!! :lmao: I will have to catch up later, but I wanted to post of my excitement today and I thought of all of you. I took my dad to a little cafe in downtown Lakeland to get some frozen hot chocolate and a woman sits down next me with the big Dooney and Bourke DCL Cruise bag!! I screamed! She was laughing. She is leaving on the Wonder in July, but bought this one on the Med. She said they cannot keep them in stock long enough. There was a huge line to get them. It is beautiful and I was so excited to see one in person. I wanted to rush home and get on the boards!

I love this and I really want one but I have too many purses now. I really only use one for Spring, one for Summer, one for Fall and one for Winter. Since I carry tons of stuff, none of them are really big enough for me but....

My DH said to me this weekend (when I was reading the thread on the big screen) "Repeat after me, YOU ARE NOT GOING TO BUY A DOONEY AND BURKE PURSE"

Uh, huh.....:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Thanks Noel. On Sat. I was holding my breath because I had DCL put the med on hold and meanwhile my husband drove into work to see if his sergeant would give him an extra 6 days off (he's a CHP officer). I was so happy when he called to tell me he got the extra time off. (he has enough vacation time. Its just a matter of having enough coverage per shift in his office). It is time consuming having kids though like you said. I work part-time, but am still busy shuttling the kids around everywhere. I actually have to leave now to take them to church camp for the afternoon. Have a nice day! OH and thanks again for organizing the Madeira Tour!

You are welcome!! DH has the actual time but not the time, if you know what I mean!!

If you take the Cable car up is it possible to not be really close to the apes? DH isn't too sure about getting "up close and personal".

:cutie:

The apes are "mainly" around their section on the Mountain and you don't have to get off where the Cable Car stops for this! You however may run in to them elsewhere as they are free roaming!

Definitely print it out and take it - not sure that I would trust anything on this anymore.

So I've been trying to find out more information about this stupid fuel suppliment charge. I called DCL and after receiving the standard reply from the CM (who by the way was very nice) I asked to speak to a supervisor. The supervisor was very belligerent and said sorry here's an email address for your gripe. So I sent an email off and today received the standard reply again - policy blah blah blah. Seriously, do they not know that we talk??? :confused3

I'm actually considering sending an email repeatedly until I can get a better understanding as to why (besides policy) they (DCL) can morally or ethically charge a surcharge to some people and not all.

I still can't believe that DCL can get away with it all!

I am working on my budget for the cruise and was hoping someone might be able to help, as the canned email response from Disney to my question did not answer my question. For those of you who did the EBTA or did a TA last time - do you recall if they stop charging the VAT tax when we get out into the Atlantic (i.e. Spa, Beverages, etc)? Also, are the Shore Excursion (in Europe) prices posted inclusive of the VAT?

Thanks!

Onboard they do not actually allow the shops to be open in port so everything is still duty free. Drinks etc remained the prices they were, though the selection of wines changed, and spa remained how it was I believe. The only thing that changed (well actually didnt as think it applies everywhere) is that cigarettes and duty free were not available to purchase when in port but out of port its fine!

Called DCL Castaway Club number. I was told you have to have COMPLETED 5 cruises to be gold and 10 to be platinum. Knowing good old DCL, the next person to call will get a different answer!!:rotfl::rotfl:

This was the answer I got. We have done 5 cruises and are just gold (well actually I have done 5 and by default Dan whos done none gets my status for booking etc).

Marilyn,

Under the current Castaway Club program, any completed cruise counts as one point.

Some of us feel that to be fair, longer cruises (such as a Panama Canal or Transatlantic cruise) deserve additional credit.

It simply helps those who book longer cruises to reach Gold or Platinum levels faster.

Woody

I agree this policy sucks! I've done the following cruises with DCL:
  • 2 x 3 night Wonder cruises
  • 1 x 11 night Wonder cruise
  • 2 x 14 night Magic cruises

Now this totals 45 nights of cruising. That said I have just reached GOLD status. Equally though someone whos done 5 x 3 night Wonder cruises is a GOLD status having only sailed 15 nights in total.

What I said from when they introduced that is that they should use the 7 night cruise as the average length and say the levels are as follows:
  • GOLD - More than 5 Cruises or More than 35 Nights of Cruising
  • PLATINUM - More than 10 Cruises or More than 70 Nights of Cruising

This would therefore keep both sides of the argument happy and make it more fair!

So after MANY MANY hours of feeling like a total bum sitting in front of this computer I have finally read at least this "chapter" of the thread now. (If there was anything important in chapters 1-5 I will assume Johanna would have told me about it.)

Introductions for those who don't know me yet: (or you can wait until the icebreakers in the RBD - apparently I was pretty good at introducing myself there last time)... :cool1: I'm Kimberly. But to avoid the Sarah/Ann/Lynn/Linda confusion you can call me Kimmy and Buckeye Gal can stay Kimberly. :hippie: I sailed with some of these pirates in 2008 on the EBPC and that's where I met my roommate for this trip. And all I can say is thank GOD she's more organized than me and helps keep me on track!! We're doing Palo brunch & dinner and got all the excursions we wanted because she has stayed on top of it!! :worship: Works great cause I'm just here to go with the flow...

Look forward to trying to stay up with this thread from now on and look forward to meeting those of you I don't know yet.

See, I told you Johanna is on top of it... lovin' the special tours!!:thumbsup2

Welcome! Nice of you to pop over and join us

Sorry I have to post this HERE, cause I cannot send a PM, cause I have not send enough posts...

TO ERIK:

Hey Erik,
sorry I am sooo late.
But I totally missed the lanyard production.

Do I/we have a chance to jump on the bus still?
I am sorry. I do not even really know what they cost. Or anything.
Do you might have a pic how they look like?

Sorry to disturb you.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH and a BIG HELLO from Germany.
Steffi.

...

I will try to follow you guys here. But you guys are sooo fast. And raising a baby boy, who will turn 1 in two weeks, I am pretty busy during the day!

But I will try to write here, cause I love boards!!!!

I will introduce me/us later. I am off to bed now... Because baby is a sleep.

Looking forward to meeting you on booooooooard... the Magic

Steffi from Germany.

Oh and Steffi - I think Eric had some extra lanyards so I think he'll be able to add you! They are free of charge - a group of kind disers are funding them for us!

For anyone that is in need of a packing list - complete with tips for DCL cruises...

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=935094&highlight=packing+list

I do a more detailed packing list (see, I told you all I was anal...) but this one is good for a don't forget to pack kind of list. Also some very good tips of what not to forget...

Thanks for this! I really needed one!

....a woman sits down next me with the big Dooney and Bourke DCL Cruise bag!! I screamed! She was laughing.....There was a huge line to get them. It is beautiful and I was so excited to see one in person....

Oh my gosh! I can see you hopping up screaming with excitement! :rotfl: That's a great story! The only thing that would make that better is to learn she was a DISer, too!

So, with that said, are you saying that I'm going to have to consider skipping the Sail-Away Party to stand in line waiting for the doors to open?!!

....My DH said to me this weekend (when I was reading the thread on the big screen) "Repeat after me, YOU ARE NOT GOING TO BUY A DOONEY AND BURKE PURSE"

Uh, huh.....:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: That's hilarious!!

I stand by what I said earlier, 1 point per day cruised. They could have a more accurate reward program. With the more points you accumulate, the more incentives you should receive.

I don't think the excursions should be tied to just how many times you cruised. Since you can book them at least 75 days in advance, it allow DCL plenty of time to get more vendors for the popular excursions.

They need to dedicate more people to making sure people get the excursions at a reasonable cost. I think they are missing the boat so to speak on making the excursions more affordable for families. Sure, there will always be people who want to do their own thing but often times, I hear people don't want to do DCL excursion because of the cost.

Off my soapbox for now.

Just my thoughts...

:scared1:

I left y'all back on page 125. That will teach me. Do I really need to read? Did I miss anything important? Someone let me know. :confused3

The apes tend to like anything "shiny".....cameras, jewelry, sunglasses....etc

Good to know, i have a habit of putting my sunnies on my head, Would hate to lose them! :thumbsup2

Probably already stated as I'm really behind but no "sunnies" not shinies and DEFINITELY no food or snacks either. Also, and this may be embarrassing, for woman, but be careful if its "that" time, better to be safe than sorry. The apes usually congregrate around food and shinies but you never know.

I stand by what I said earlier, 1 point per day cruised. They could have a more accurate reward program. With the more points you accumulate, the more incentives you should receive.

:surfweb:

Not trying to :stir:

but I do agree with you. Although I reached Plat level already and therefore it shouldn't matter, it took me from the time of the unaugural season to 2007 to achieve that. And I have sailed over 175 days on the Magic and Wonder. I tend to do long cruises only as I feel I get more bang for my buck so keeping in mind that they didn't start the longer cruise till later, It has taken a long time. I've sailed on "another" cruise line and I'm already a member and getting loads of discounts and I haven't sailed with them in over 5 yrs. If they weren't such a meat market, I would sail with them more often. And their discount level iniates after the first person.

Also, just wanted to put this out there, especially in this economy.....my youngest is getting rid of a LOT of stuff and she just handed me about 10 semi-formal dresses. If anyone is interested, most of them even have tags on them. They are usually from Windsor and were bought on clearance rack. I have about 6 right now that are sherbert colors and range in size from M to just a couple of L. Some are probably a 9 as that size is too big on her. These are modest dresses as I won't let her wear anything too "grown-up". In other words, they aren't Barberella or exotic dancer type.

If anyone uses these size or is interested, drop me a PM. Oh wait, there is a long red dres with the sides cut-out made of 100% polyester (lined) material. It's not for little girls but that's a size 11. Anyway, just putting it out there if anyone is concerned about having to spend buckoo bucks for something they may never wear again.

I hope everyone had a nice weekend. Last night, my DH and I went to see "Toy Story 3". I had to cry! It was a happy and sad cry...but it was a wonderful movie. When TS2 came out, I had just started working at my Disney Store 6 months before and look at me now - 11 years later and I'm still there! :thumbsup2
time sure does fly!
OK, I know this totally isn't the right place to post this, But I wanted to share with my Dis friends. I thought everyone knew about this, but I was talking to Su-Kraft today and she didn't know, and I thought she was the absolute guru!

So, I wrote a letter to Disney about a month ago telling them that my kids loved Disney and who their favourite characters are, and popped in some pictures the kids had done. Yesterday I received a big envelope from Disney with a photo of Minnie signed "to my friend Arabella, Love Minnie Mouse" and a photo of Alice and the White Rabbit with a similar signing for Lucinda. They are great quality black and white 8 x 10 inch, glossy photo's, hand signed. They also threw in some Fab Five signed 4 x 6 fan cards.
The kids were so excited to get mail from Disney, I framed the pictures and put them in their room today, they look great.
Just thought I'd put it out there in case anyones kids (or big kids) might like one. :thumbsup2

cool
Thanks
Just checked again though. Only availability is for 9pm on any of the nights most people want. That is, avoiding Formal nights, Pirates night, Port days etc.
We have had the 9pm slot before, and didnt over enjoy it so late. We don't mind the late time, but felt we were in the way of clearing up!

I have reserved for Tortola night at 830pm, so we will see how it goes when on board. Still hoping for Brunch!

I have booked Parasailing on CC for 1230, but am wondering whether to keep or not. Originally DH promised this as part of my christmas present last year :lovestruck. But he did say I could change to something else if I wish. My main concern is that we are at CC for such a short time, how can I sacrifice the time at |Serenity Bay! It would mean not getting down there until likely 2pm. And then its Lunch to rush....Will be pondering this one! As dedicated beach bums, we normally hit the loungers and stay there lol. Am thinking might be better to have a massage or something on a sea day, when weather may limit our sunbed time by the adult pool!

On another note, has anyone ever tried the teeth whitening? My dentist is rather negative about such treatments, muttering darkly about long term effects. Any one any thoughts or experience? How well does it work?

Lyn
My dentist says DONT

I know, they are funny sometimes,in a bad way.
Noel - I really like Frank Sinatra and I am 42, but I also like Aerosmith and Bon Jovi so I am flexible - not to mention the sexy Toby Keith for country. You are definitely not ancient!

I am going to keep my Madiera tour with DCL but thank you for organizing and arranging. I am sure you will all have a blast and I want to hear about it in the Promenade Lounge!

Thanks for the welcome back, I have really missed you all. I am almost caught up, but will not be on again till Thursday.
I love Frank as well.
We had to pay the fuel supplement, and I never got a satisfactory answer why some had to pay, but not others. I am not pleased.

So I canceled a future Disney cruise. If DCL wants loyalty, they have to treat passengers fairly and respectfully.

Woody
They are true idiots re this fuel thing

Hi Steffy
:lmao::lmao::lmao: Regretfully I am past where liposuction would work, I need the nip tuck!!!;) So, I will just opt to cover it all up!!!:rotfl2: Oh and I'm thinking Spanx!!!;)

In all seriousness, I have a friend who is DH's age of 66 and had her "saddlebags" removed about 5 years ago. She still looks great. I am going to consider doing this if I ever get to my ideal weight.

I agree that the last few pounds we want to loose seem to take forever. I will be happy with whatever I can loose as DH seems to think I am still size 3 as those are the size of clothes he always brings me home from a trip. Ah....the eyes of love see what they want to see.

Just my thoughts...
:surfweb:
I agree, nout wrong with a bit of plastic surgery If you can afford it:thumbsup2

For me, I need a what NOT to pack list!! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Me too:lmao:
OK had a lovely weekend but I'm officially knackered now! Anyway trying to catch up on posts so here goes

Drats I wish I'd seen that Tshirt! Where was it from

OK just 30 more pages to go!
Howa was your weather?
I need to go back to cp, It was our first holiday as a couple, pretty special to me.
:rotfl2: Me too. I know i will take far too many clothes.

I actually bought a dress in the sales today. Should do for formal night, though it isn't long. I will need some fine shrug or something to hide the upper arm crepey skin!! Once I am there I probably won't care, but I will need something. Most of what I can find are fairly heavy weight or a little too sparkly for this dress, but most of all some are far more money than the dress cost!!!:lmao: I'm really very pleased as I don't 'do' dresses really.
What colour?
You guys are chatty, chatty!! :lmao: I will have to catch up later, but I wanted to post of my excitement today and I thought of all of you. I took my dad to a little cafe in downtown Lakeland to get some frozen hot chocolate and a woman sits down next me with the big Dooney and Bourke DCL Cruise bag!! I screamed! She was laughing. It is beautiful and I was so excited to see one in person. I wanted to rush home and get on the boards!

I want one but I aint standing in line, RIGHT< now I need to do some work

At our DIS meets, Tiffany approached me with a big hug and thank you. She then handed over to me this beautiful large light pink lined tote with turquoise and brown hibiscus flowers on it that she made for me.....just because. That's just how she is! It's going with me on this cruise, so you'll see it! It just ever so discretely has miniatures Minnies and dotted hidden Mickey heads on it. She made one for herself, too, so there were times we were walking around the ship with the same bag!! She and her family were booked on this cruise with us, but they had to change their plans last summer. I was so disappointed that they switched to another cruise, but lucky them, they got to do a B2B and managed to surprise the kids with the second cruise until after they got disembarked from the first leg of their adventure! You would have loved her! Hopefully you will get a chance to meet her some day!

I love the sound of your bag! What a lovely thoughtful gift :)

I think that you could be ok for gold, once you check in, at least for booking on board. if not that really isn't cool, since once you check in you are finishing that 5th cruise, you really can't cancel then, lol.

So if that is true, I need to have deposit funds open for a 2012 cruise while on the TA, hmmmm

Pj

I was thinking that too PJ..........Noel, I bet you're right :rotfl2:

I have been re-thinking my Barcelona tour. There are two museums that sound interesting. The Museu Maritim (Maritime museum) and the Castell Dels Tres Dragons (The Castle of the Three Dragons). The later museum is a Zoology and Geology Museum. They are together and make up the Natural Science Museum. The book says that a skelton of a whale greets the visitors.

Has anyone either seen these or heard of them?

When we were in Barcelona last year my dd was itching to get to the Geology museum (she is a Geology student) but we just didn't have time sadly. She had heard great things about it :)

To tell you a great Disney story, when Abby was in first grade, she needed surgery on her nose. I called the Downtown Disney store to tell them that I wanted the Mr. Potato Head assortment sent for my daughter's surgery. I paid of course, but they sent it Fed-Ex with a beautiful card regarding her surgery and a bunch of character autographs. I thought it was SUPER sweet and I didn't expect anything. I still remember her smile through all the gauze!

That's the Disney magic for you!

I haven't run across any in a long time. There used to be one in the East Bay but it closed a while back. Steinmart is like an upscale Ross or TJ Maxx.

:scared1: OMG! We have had on in La Mirada for years and just 2 weeks ago walking into one for the first time. I was soooooo in trouble. I was actually on my way to Bed, Bath and Beyond to buy a salad bowl chiller with my 20% off coupon and they had it there for $1.00 less than what I would have bought it for WITH my coupon. And they had the yummiest Nine West Gladiator sandals for 50% off. I paid $20 bucks for those comfy sandals and wore them all night and the following day w/o any problems. Right out of the box.

I have had to literally turn my head when I drive past them. Monica, its on Imperial Hwy and Santa Gertrudes if you ever want to visit it straight off the 5 fwy. Yikes, I go skimming and this is what I come across? Yeah, so in trouble. ;)

Look forward to trying to stay up with this thread from now on and look forward to meeting those of you I don't know yet.

Hello from us Kimmy :yay: (Mandy & Mark, from the UK) Look forward to meeting you!

This cruise I am staying out of the laundry room and I am going to work on not being shy. Maybe I will start each day off with the drink of the day so I am relaxed.;)

Me too! I mean, I shall work on my shyness...AND be joining you for a daily drink!! :rotfl2::thumbsup2

"Off topic" :lmao: I didn't think this group could stick to one topic in the first place. In the past six threads we have discussed numerous things some of them at the same time which made for some interesting reading if you had not been following the complete conversation, ie recycling underwear:lmao:

Howa was your weather?
I need to go back to cp, It was our first holiday as a couple, pretty special to me.

Weather was pretty fantastic actually! We had rain on Friday night so went to the Indian instead of BBQ but lovely Sat & Sun & Mon so had a BBQ on Sat night while watching Dr Who.

Our first couple holiday was Disney (just cause I had already booked it when we got together and he really wanted to go). We're definately going back there as either a couple or a family of 6 (Mum, Dad, Me, Dan and my sister and her hubby - oh and the dog so 7). It was fun but I didn't realise how up and down hills it all was! I feel so sore today!
