We do have to stick together! :)

Dismates was a Disney dating site that is no longer active. I forget when they took it down, but sadly it's not around anymore. We basically did the same thing too, exchanged many PMs (all of which I have saved!), emails, then phone numbers and then we met up for our first date! It was wonderful and I knew right away that he was the one for me. We got engaged at WDW in September of 2008 right before our first Disney cruise and got married on October 17, 2009. It was such a lovely day!!!!!

This was our cake table.

I'll have to see if I can find anymore pictures from the wedding and the Disney aspects of it. :)

What a lovely story. Your cake table is fabulous :)

Just got this text message from my nephew Will. He is the one who lost his mother (my sister Karen) 6 years ago when he was 10. I am on the phone to Kaiser Sacramento right now and they are checking to see when he will arrive. He has Type 2 Diabetes and is quite overweight.

Any advice from those who have suffered from Pancreatitis?

Hi, It's Will I thought you need to know that my dad and I will not be staying at your house. I'm not sure when my dad was planning to stay with you, but regardless we won't now. We may come to stay later in the summer but as it is my dad is on his way to Sacramento in an ambulance, as I type this e-mail. I took him to the ER last night and he spent the night there. Sometime between 2:00 this morning and 9:00 this morning the doctors here in Mt. Shasta found that he had Acute Pancreatitis, or an infection of his Pancreas. He and I are alright and we wish you the best of summers.

I do have pancreatitis but chronic rather than acute, which is somewhat different.
I send good wishes to your BIL and hope he gets well soon.

OK Ill warn you I've done the skim reading again so appologies if I've missed anything!

UK Folks - Anyone out there with hayfever - has it been like 200% worse today or what? I haven't taken tablets for 2 years and now I'm having to send Dan out for some.

My DD Becky has hayfever, the only thing she has noticed, which is different for her, is that it usually slightly better if she goes by the sea, but this year no change at all. She is in Magaluff on a hen weekend at the moment :).

I am finally caught up reading and I better respond to a few things before the thread is closed.

Hey Corinna, we live near Nuremberg. So you are German? Das ist ja schoen! Es werden einige Deutsche on Board sein. Denn wir reisen mit einigen Freunden.

Ok, I'll talk to you guys later...
Steffi.

Thx for the warm welcome.

I love Nuremberg. We have family friends near Bamberg and we spent many summer holidays staying in their holiday flat when I was a child and I also spent a few Christmases there with my grandparents. The Christmas market in Nuremberg is spectacular.

I am trying to slow the tour down so perhaps at least spend some time at one of the pools is a question I am trying to get answered. I also did email them to express our collective desire to have vans versus buses. I am awaiting a response which I will then post.

My understanding from my phone call to DCL is that you have to have COMPLETED the cruise prior to sailing to qualify.

Thanks for the explanation about the VAT. I am assuming that if we get a paid in full invoice that the VAT has been paid. Am I correct?

Yes, VAT is included in the end price. So if you have paid in full, you will have paid VAT.

So if the WBTA is my 5th is it better to book on board or wait til I get home so I can get the gold OBC? (So much to learn...) :confused3

According to DCL, it does not make any difference as the the OBC is not assessed based on your booking date, but on your status when you are actually sailing.

Corinna, I have to say that your dress is gorgeous! Unfortunately, DH and I will probably pass on all of the formal/semiformal dinners; he refuses to dress up and I don't know how we'd pack all that stuff anyway.

We work on the principle of averages in my family. I love to dress up, DH does not. So if I dress up to the nines and he goes fairly casual, I figure that evens itself out ;)

You are too funny!!!

Last weekend I was able to talk my husband into booking the Med cruise right before our TA (it took lots of convincing). But...I called Disney and they let us transfer our "pre-Barcelona" hotel nights (3) and apply it to the Med cruise. In the end, we only had to pay an extra $1628 for myself, my dh and dd (8). My mom and ds (12) cruise only cost them a total of $874 extra after their pre-cruise stay in Barcelona was credited.
I also tried to recoup the fuel surcharge as many of you did, but was denied. I was told that it was great that we have the OBC. Kinda like, "Look on the bright side.."

I am sure you are going to have a wonderful time. We did the first Med cruise this year and had a wonderful time. If you are interested in seeing what to expect, my trip report with lots of photos is linked under "Magical Mystery Tour" in my signature.

You guys are chatty, chatty!! :lmao: I will have to catch up later, but I wanted to post of my excitement today and I thought of all of you. I took my dad to a little cafe in downtown Lakeland to get some frozen hot chocolate and a woman sits down next me with the big Dooney and Bourke DCL Cruise bag!! I screamed! She was laughing. She is leaving on the Wonder in July, but bought this one on the Med. She said they cannot keep them in stock long enough. There was a huge line to get them. It is beautiful and I was so excited to see one in person. I wanted to rush home and get on the boards!

On the first Med cruise they were in plentiful supply. One of our table mates got one and I so wanted one as well, but it is somewhat out of my budget.

Onboard they do not actually allow the shops to be open in port so everything is still duty free. Drinks etc remained the prices they were, though the selection of wines changed, and spa remained how it was I believe. The only thing that changed (well actually didnt as think it applies everywhere) is that cigarettes and duty free were not available to purchase when in port but out of port its fine!

On the Med cruise they charged VAT on spa treatments from Civitavecchia (Rome) onwards. I am glad that I had my treatment on the day we were docked in Naples.

ATTENTION ALL DANIEL TAXI MADERIA TOUR CRUISERS:

Just heard back from Daniel Taxi.

The only questions are I think that is still unanswered is if someone did not want to ride either the toboggan, would they have time to see the gardens?

I assume we ascend the cable car to Monte, then take the toboggan back to Funchal. Is that correct?

Also, if people are going back to the ship and not wine tasting will they have an opportunity along the way or in Porto Moniz to taste the honey cakes? I have emailed her for a response.

I have also addressed her question about posting in a PM to a DIS board moderator.

Anyone have any more questions or comments or want to change/add to itinerary?

Hello Noel,

Sorry I kept you waiting so long again, but now I’m all yours J.

Below this last e-mail, I copy-pasted your other e-mail from early this morning and I’m now answering both e-mails at the same time.

No problem about the e-mails you’re sending me. I’m very pleased to assist you and your group on whatever may be necessary, after all… this is my job and I do this all the time. In fact, it’s only with good communication, that we can provide a service as perfect as possible and that will meet our clients’ wishes and expectations.

Ok, so the big bus is definitely out. You have good points there and I surely agree.

Thank you for the link to the DISboards. I had a quick look already and I enjoyed it so much, especially as you make reference to us. And I was amazed at the huge number of pages you manage to have in a short space of time.

I’d love to take part in the DISboards’ chat, but I must know if I’m allowed to speak freely businesswise. Do you know what their rules say about this? I’m asking, because on Cruise Critic I’m not allowed to deal with any business matters at all, I’m not even allowed to recommend any local businesses. In case I can speak freely on the DISboards, I can answer your tour companions directly, as I could see some questions related to their tour with us.

Oh… and I loved to see you and your husband on your avatar!

Yes, even people with walking difficulties, have taken part in the our tours, so your guest will be ok. The lady can choose to stay in the van sometimes, but on the longer stops she’ll be able to get out and be with the others.

Now, the Porto Moniz volcanic pools. Yes, you’ll have time to view them, but if some people are really interested in having a swim, we worked out a plan to enable the group to spend more time in Porto Moniz and is, basically, to stop only on the best locations. So, we suggest the following:

· Cable Car and Toboggan rides.

· Câmara de Lobos – just passing by.

· Cabo Girão – a 20minute stop.

· Ribeira Brava – passing by only also.

· Encumeada – a short stop.

· From Paúl da Serra to Santa – a short stop for sightseeing along the way.

· Porto Moniz – you’ll be able to stay there for something like 1h30m to 1h45m. The people interested can stay in the pool for about 30 minutes, before lunch.

· São Vicente – a 30 minute stop.

· Finally, back to Funchal on the express way.

I don’t think you’ll feel rushed, either by following this plan or the one we have on the website, but it’s true that you can’t do it too leisurely.

Yes, these stops are for sightseeing and picture taking. For your shopping, Porto Moniz is good, I think you’re meaning souvenir shopping, right? You’ll have honey cake, our very own “Bolo de mel”, with your wine tasting at Blandy’s. This cake is made not with bees’ honey, but with sugar cane molasses.

Noel, I read on DISboards you commenting that, even though you prefer the small vans, you also liked the idea of having a guide, so maybe you’d like to know that the drivers of the smaller vans are driver/guides. In fact, these driver/guides are the same people that accompany the groups in the big buses.

Greetings to everybody

Eusébia.

That sounds fantastic. Thanks for sorting this out.

OMG!!!! We just booked this cruise today and I'm OVERWHELMED with all the information and activities on this thread! :scared1: Is it too late to get in on all this...Is there a summary somewhere or someone who can help condense all 168 pages of stuff to know...Help!

Really looking forward to this cruise. We love Barcelona! Gibraltar and Madeira will be new ports for us.

Andrea & Greg
Reston, VA
4th Disney Cruise

:welcome: on board.

John picked up his new iPhone 4 this morning. Well it was this afternoon actually after he had queued for 5 hours!!!:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: Try getting him to queue for 30 minutes for a Disney ride!!!!!:rotfl:

How does he like the new iPhone? I have a second generation iPhone and I am overdue an upgrade. So I am seriously pondering getting the iPhone 4. I don't really like the shape though and I can get all the software upgrades for my iPhone. The only thing really wanting me upgrade is that the battery life is supposed to be much better. I would not stand in line for that amount of time for an phone though.

Well, I've been lurking here for a few days trying to get caught up on what is going on and I've decided that's impossible, so I'm just going to jump in and try to figure out what you have been up to in the last million posts!

This will be our sixth cruise, so our first gold cruise:cool1:.
I'm (Andrea) traveling with DH (Michael), DS12 (Zachary) and DS10 (Adam). We are in room 5012. We are taking DCL air, so don't know our flight plans yet. Unfortunately, DH can't take any more days off work than he already is, so we plan on being a bit tired on 9/18 after what I'm sure will be a long day/night of travel. I think the excitement will help us out, though.

Right now, our cruise plans are

Gibraltar--City Under Seige 9AM
Madeira--Catamaran Whale and Dolphin Watching 9:45AM
St. Maarten--nothing. beach??
Tortola--Tour to Virgin Gorda 8:30 AM
Castaway--beach time

Not sure about Madeira. DH and I couldn't find any DCL tours we were really happy with and are still not sure about what we did pick. I've been trying to figure out whether to join your tour but not sure how kid friendly it is and it sounds like a really long day. We'd like something a little shorter.

:welcome: on board.

Has anyone had Captain John before? Does he have an accent?

Depends on your point of view. He is from the UK (I think Oxford) so for a lot of us, probably not, but for you guys on the other side of the pond, probably. I have not met him so far. We had Captain Tom on our first two cruises on the Magic, Captain Henry on the Wonder and Captain Thord on our most recent cruise.

Okay Corinna. You have me seriously considering one of the dresses that seller on eBay has (don't worry...it's not the same one you got!). My biggest hesitation (besides I shouldn't be spending the money right now) is that I do not like to be sleeveless because I'm not comfortable with my flabby arms! Otherwise, I think it would be flattering for my "curvaceous" body! I emailed them asking if they make matching wraps, but the response was they will make jacket, but they can't provide a picture. A wrap would be FAR easier than a jacket!

You're really pleased with the quality of the dress you got, right? I saw a couple of "neutral" feedbacks that spoke to that, however, I know you can't please everyone, too.

I love my dress and the quality is amazing. I checked the feedback beforehand and the neutral feedback mainly referred to the dress not being exactly like in the photo or the wrong colour. I decided that I could live with this considering the low price. I did get a different colour than I had chosen (light blue instead of blue/pink), but I am absolutely in love with it. We are planning a vow renewal for next year and I will get my wedding gown from them as well.

I hear you on the showing off your arms issue. I have the flabby arms as well and also have a birthmark on one that I do not like showing off. All of my formal/ semi-formal dresses are either strapless or have very thin straps. I ended up getting Pashminas on Ebay in a range of colours for less than 10 dollars each.

Howdy everyone,
Figured I’d better check in. I’ve been reading this board for a while now. I have been informed, educated and entertained about the WBTA by you intrepid Disney cruisers, thanks.

We have felt the Magic twice before. Our DDIL and DS (HallsofVA) shanghaied us onto a Magical Western Caribbean cruise on 12/3/05. Then we joined them for a Magical Eastern Caribbean on 12/6/08.

Ahhh, one more time into the breach me lads and lassies. It will be exciting to cross the pond again at least this time it won’t be haze gray and underway. We had a DIS board presence before but it was so close to my DDIL’s that decided to create a new one to quell confusion.

DW Mona and I are looking forward to meeting y’all and experiencing the MAGIC once again.
John (aka Commodore Jack)

:welcome: on board.

Welcome to Sea Rogues!

A few notes from our Baltic cruise.
We could only book a Palo dinner online but got brunch and afternoon tea when we boarded. I think we`ll just go for brunch next time.
Villains party - only saw one person dressed up.
I won`t stress about clothing for our WBTA. I bought a hoodie the first evening and lived in that. I did make an effort for dinner but I`ll take alot less in September. People looked smart but not overly dressed up on formal night.
Me and DD were thrilled to learn from Captain John that he lives 20 minutes away from us. IASWAA!

The only sad thing about our cruise was the big red faced women, wearing a daft expression who took my place in all the photo`s. Where did she come from?

That is encouraging. Maybe I will get my Palo Tea after all.

Since quite a few of you are posting how long you have been married, I thought I would share some news that I don't believe I have shared before. Joi and I got legally married in Washington DC on March 14 of this year with our grown children and our daughter-in-law as well as all of my family and a lot of friends in attendence. On March 15 we celebrated 23 years together. We would have had the ceremony on March 15, but it was too hard to get everyone there on a Monday. We are using this cruise as our belated honeymoon, if you can call it that afer 23 years.

Congratulations.

Just dropping a quick note to say goodbye for the next 10-14 days. The packing up has started with a bang. The garage sales are done. The bin is still in front of the house and I keep throwing more stuff into it. They're coming to collect that on Tuesday so gotta move, gotta move, gotta move!

All things working correctly our movers should be arriving next Saturday morning. We'll load their truck and then watch them drive away; hopefully we won't be too far behind them. Looking forward to a stop in Phoenix at a favorite restaurant over there; Barrio Cafe. From there on to Las Cruces, NM to visit a night with one of my brothers and his family and then on to someplace....not sure if it'll be Laredo, TX or McAllen, TX to cross the border to head to the new digs. We're HOPING that we'll be in San Miguel de Allende by either Thursday or Friday of the next week. The dogs know somethings up cuz we NEVER clean a house like this!

I'll try and catch up with y'all on the new installment - hopefully you won't be on No. 8 by then!

Oh, and if y'all decide to have another type of drink tasting, put us down for it!

Until we next check in with you, be well, be safe, and enjoy life.

Adios y hasta luego!

Michael

I hope that your move goes smoothly.

Speaking of novels, for all you readers spending time in Barcelona, I highly recommend "The Shadow of the Wind" by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. It is a mesmerizing story set in 1940s Barcelona--part thriller, mystery, history, romance. The book and Zafon are VERY famous in Catalonia (the Spanish state that Barcelona is the capitol of).

My husband, Greg, and I love Barcelona and this book. In fact, I think we'll take a Shadow of the Wind walking tour this time.

Andrea

I read this a few years ago and absolutely loved it. Maybe I need to re-read this. I am also really wanting to read Angel's Game.
For anyone wanting to see which pins I have to trade, here they are - let me know if you want to trade any. I have duplicates of some of them.

I love the Figment pin with the rainbow. I collect mainly Figment pins.

We call them in the Netherlands Knabbel en babbel

Ok... and here's the German version...

Ahoernchen & Bhoernchen.

I am still trying to find a reasonable translation...

Squirrels are called: Eich-hoernchen...

So... they put the A & B infront of the "Hoernchen"

I remember watching a Disney show as a child on Saturday afternoons and there Chip and Dale were referred to as Chip and Chap. I can even still remember the theme tune for their cartoon.

Well, I finally buckled and ordered a PacSafe bag from Overstock yesterday. Even with the high shipping cost, it was nearly half the price from what it goes for in the UK. I got the Smoke Blue version and can't wait for it to arrive.

Corinna

So I thought I would contact DCL regarding the fuel supplement again noting that a number of people that had paid using DVC points were getting the supplement returned as OBC. The repsonse started with the same policy, etc, etc and pin-pointed the DVC as follows:

As far as Disney Vacation Club, these Guests are using their 'points' to
purchase their cruise. These did not reserve their cruise through Disney
Cruise Line as you did. These Guests arranged their cruise through
Disney Vacation Club and are under a contractual agreement that is
governed by the rules and regulations of their membership. How the fuel
supplement is handled is monitored by Disney Vacation Club.

We regret any disappointment and hope these concerns will not continue
to affect your regard for Disney. We hope you understand our position
regarding this situation, as this will be our final correspondence
relating to the fuel supplement on your vacation.

As you can see by the last sentence, I guess they are done with me! Both email responses (to my initial one and this second one) were from "Wilma".

:thumbsup2 for all those that managed to get your $$ back!

This is nuts! I had a funny feeling this would be the line mind!

Also does anyone else not think Wilma is real? I think its like Victoria &Albert's where each woman is Victoria and each man Albert (or so I've been told). Every female DCL agent is Wima and every male is Joseph (although saying that I also once got an email from a Francesca so maybe they get a choice in 2 names lol

Well i got my MRI results today. Well there is nothing broke, ligament damage or tendon damage. They found a slight sprain and fluid in the wrist. This did show on the last MRI and this one shows that it healing. They think that the fluid is causing the pain and swelling. They give me pills for that and they told to give it another 6 to 8 weeks.. It has already been 8 weeks. At least I'm not on any restrictions and I should be healed by the time of the cruise. :cool1:

Stephen

Oh Im glad it isn't anything worse and is now healing! Dan dislocated his thumb a few weeks back and is still in pain from it due to the sprain!

Well, It is end of financial year here tomorrow, oh the paperwork, I feel like I'm drowning! We run our own business, I do most of the paperwork, I am usually very organised but I have been Dis'ing and FE'ing too much and haven't been spending enough time working. That'll teach me!!! :surfweb:

Im another that thinks airline bathrooms are the worst! Although I haven't ever noticed that they are sticky... Double yuck! OK, I have never gotten socks from the airline either... What am I missing? :confused3

We fly Qantas (Aussie airline), we get given a little travel pack on all international flights with socks, eye mask for sleeping, toothbrush and toothpaste, all in a little zippered pouch on a lanyard. In business class you get a toiletry bag with the above stuff plus moisturiser, lip balm, eye balm, spritzing spray and a pair of pajama's. Really nice jammies too!
We only get it on international flights, not domestic. :goodvibes

Thank for all the well wishes. I hope it heal much faster then 6 to 8 weeks. If it take that long it will take over 4 month since the elevator hit me.

Stephen

Fingers crossed it heals soon, you have 12 weeks to be fighting fit again. ;)

Will is concerned about his dad but acting like he is very mature young man. He has been through so much in his young life that I pray his Dad will recover speedily. I see more of his Mother in him every day. I think he will do well in life.

Just my thoughts....
:surfweb:
Noel, I'm glad to hear It sounds like your BIL is not out of the woods yet, but is doing better. Will sound's like a beautiful soul. I am sure his mother is guiding him. Keep us updated. :flower3:

As promised, I went to a bridal salon to day to check out some formals because I really really have an itch to get a new gown! princess: I found one that I thought was pretty and looked good on me, even though my flabby arms would be exposed!

Sadly, I'm finding myself skimming more and more. I hope I haven't missed anything too significant!

I have to share this with the group, Amy.
OMG! Amy and Dave were our own celebrities!! :rotfl: Everyone was so thrilled for them!! So I'm walking around the port looking for her, and when I see her, she throws her arms out for a big hug and says "KIMBERLYYYYYY!!! I'm so happy to see you!" Although the hug was great, I just wanted to see the RING! :rotfl: :goodvibes

I am sure you will look beautiful in anything you choose, your personality shines brighter than any dress I've ever seen. :goodvibes
We'll forgive you for skimming, I'm sure we've all done it when our lives are a little hectic.
I loved your story about Amy and Dave, thanks for sharing :thumbsup2

I am so excited,,, my nephew is going to New Zealand for the Pan Pacific Tournament. He plays water polo in high school and apparently is pretty good.

They will be staying in Aukland and will be staying at the Sacred Heart College.
Congratulations to your nephew, Ask him to bring you home some Buzz Bars and Pinky's, Ooh and some chocolate fish, YUM!!!:yay:

Unfortunately I am struggling to keep up with everything at the moment ... mainly because with this splint on my hand I really struggle to type. I am reading everything and when I can't use the laptop ( we only have one working computer in house at the moment, so if any of kids are about ... forget it ) I read posts on Ipod touch. So apologies for not responding to posts as often as I used to .... it is very frustrating.

Please rest your hand, we need you in tip top shape in less than 70 days :rotfl:
We'll be looking forward to your posts when you can manage :thumbsup2

Hello everybody. DW (PrincessShmoo) finally got me to register. I will probably be mainly a lurker, since DW seems to be keeping me pretty well informed about the goings on around here.

:surfweb:

Don't worry my other half Dan lurks like a trooper - and in fact usually knows whether I've been busy in work or not by what happens on the boards., He is registered (welshwizurd) but rarely ventures on to post anything, gets me to instead!

What?!!! Now I know you didn't miss the Spanx chats! :rotfl2: Go get your Spanx at QVC

LOL! I have some honest, just rather shorts as they feel more comfy. Am taking some on the cruise though so actually you are right will be wearing my Spanx!

DH used to post, but I don't think he even lurks anymore. There is far too much traffic on this thread for him.

Its so weird how harsh the pollen is this year!

Didn't help mind last night I had an allergic reaction! Seems like Dan used a new kitchen cleaner in the kitchen and I'm allergic to it. Unfortunately I found out because some must have gone on the mugs on the Mug Tree in the kitchen. I had a cup of tea and some pasta (the pasta was measured out in a mug off the Tree) and the next thing you know my throat has swollen up and I can't breathe! It was touch and go as to whether I would need to go to the hospital. If Dan had had his way we would have but took some anit-histimines and it started dropped down a bit. Now its just red raw and swollen on one side so did venture in to work today. Taking tomorrow off though as I barely slept last night!

Lanyardpins whit Cruiselogo

Me and Noel have wrote before of making our one landyardpins. To do this i must now how many people want to buy one, so i can get a price quote.

I have seen that this company has also maked landyards for Disney.

Send me a PM if you have interest in a landyardpin and how many.
And if you have a idea what you want on it let me now, so we can see what the most of us want on it.

Connie

On the Med cruise they charged VAT on spa treatments from Civitavecchia (Rome) onwards. I am glad that I had my treatment on the day we were docked in Naples.

Oh really? Well technically we aren't in European ports much so fingers crossed it wont be too bad!

I'm having the same trouble, I keep eating it and then having to buy more!

I think you have to be on a pretty long haul flight to get them - usually in a pack with eye mask and a toothbrush/paste. Think 12 hours or longer. Mum says the airline socks are to mop up the urine in the bathrooms and save your own socks - TMI? :rotfl:

I kept eating my Candy / Choc swap too, so.....I put them in envelopes with the Dis name and sealed them. If it says somebody elses name on it, I'd feel bad eating it. :thumbsup2
Yep, has to be a international or sleeping flight I think. Your mum is right about the socks and the bathroom floors, it's pretty gross by the end of a 13-14 hour flight!

OMG how scary for you both. I hope you get some sleep today and that your throat heals quickly.
I hope you rememberd to throw the cleaner spray away.

It was me that asked. I agree not a deal breaker. Do you know who offers free coach service to the terminal? Is this the same company that offers the Skywalk Combo pack?

I think they were referring to the cruise line. They weren't very helpful for being the people in the know!

I wish my Dh would lurk and get to know some of the beautiful people here, he is just too busy at work and even if he did find time, he's in the building industry, there are no computers on site. He gets updates from me, but still has no idea who is who :confused3

Whoa, that is not good. A few years ago we moved into a new house, it had mould in the bathroom, I was spraying bleach up at it and didn't realise it was coming back down to my face and I was breathing it in. By that night my throat was raw and bleeding, my eyes were swollen closed and my skin was irritated. It took some days to heal.
I hope you get some rest tonight and feel better tomorrow. I think jelly might be on the menu :thumbsup2
