I don't know what it's like in the rest of the UK today bit here in Reading it's HOT!!!:woohoo:

Went to sit in the garden for a while and had to come back in as I got too hot.....thats very unusual! Its supposed to get even hotter by Sunday....maybe they're readying us for our cruise?!:thumbsup2 :rotfl2:

I may even have to go for another swim later to cool down......what's everyone else up to this fine Friday evening?:flower3:

Never been to UK. What is hot? Today in Indiana we are a comfy 78F/26C, but earlier this week we were boiling at 91F/33C and very humid. Poor DS12 is at Boy Scout camp. Is there a smiley showing sweat dripping down your face?

Just think of all the cool international slang we can all take home with us ;)

Lets face it, aren't 95% of us shorted and fatter than we'd like to be? ;)

We call these skivvies - didn't realise it could be misinterpreted! Just shows you can't be too careful :rotfl2:
tukwinter06skivvie.jpg

I for one love slang. I remember back in the 1970's when my English friend came here and made a few faux paus. She asked to pinch a *** (do you have a cigarette) and may I borrow a rubber (may I have an eraser). One of my favorites from that time was my American friend and I visiting my family in Waterlooville. After a large meal, she thanked them and told them she was "just stuffed". They were horrified until we were told that they thought she has just gotten pregnant. We all had a good laugh.

I am 5'3" and too heavy. My mother "smoked" three of us short. She was 5'7" and my dad was 6'1". Three of us that she smoked with during pregnancy are 5'3". The other two that she did not smoke with are 5'9 and 5'11. I blame my weight gain on the fact that a 6 foot woman is trying to get out.

What you call a skvvie, I would call a long sleeved turtleneck.

Ah.....the so called "English" language.....

Just my thoughts....

Hi Everyone!

Thanks to reading these boards, I just got the military discount for our WBTA!! Went from a cat 8 to cat 6 and saved $1360.00!!!

See you all in Barcelona.

Sandy and Tom (yogitxtx)

Wow - that's fantastic!! Glad you were able to upgrade and still save!!!

Skivvy in the UK is a domestic servant, female historically. We quite often use the term in a more slightly derogatory way when complaining - 'you treat me like a skivvy', 'I'm just your skivvy' etc.

Going to the doctor's soon to see if he can help with the continuing pain after having had my gallbladder out. I have given it 5 weeks, but the pain is almost the same as it was before, and indeed since the pancreatitis in December. In other ways I feel so much better, but I want to get on top of the pain....
Thank you all for the good wishes regarding my doctor visit. Taking more meds now so a bit groggy at the moment. I had better not go online shopping!!!:rotfl2:
:lmao::lmao::lmao:

Wishing you a recovery soon! Indeed you don't need to be so miserable, and you absolutely need to be 100% healthy for our cruise!

Actually, I'm thinking in addition to bathing suit shopping, this might be the time to do some Spanx shopping. ;)

....I have been to the fracture clinic and have basically been told to behave myself and rest my right hand for the next 2 weeks at least. Otherwise it will become a chronic condition. :scared1::scared1: ....

Any suggestions as to what I can do to pass the time for the next 2 weeks?

I know that most people in the medical profession do NOT take doctor's orders. They are stereotypically terrible patients! You better make yourself an exception, Sarah!! You're off to a great start! Indeed take it easy. :wizard:

A couple more suggestions to pass time would be Sudoku puzzles (if you can attempt to write numbers with your left hand), word searches, and go to the library to get books and videos on ports-of-call.

lol, well to us, it's hot anyway....it's in the low 80's in my garden today and very humid too. It doesn't normally this hot in June.....hope your ds enjoys camp!

I love the differences in the way we use language. I recall lots of conversations about this on the PC thread a few years back :thumbsup2 (BTW I too would say I was 'stuffed' after a full meal!):rotfl2:

:rotfl2:
As much I really do feel your pain right now, Thank-you for this post. Let me explain......I have 6 gallbladder tumours and am having some troubles with them and gallbladder sludge at the moment. I had a bad attack last week and the doctor wants me to have it taken out. I haven't had any major problems for 6 months, but I was eating bad. :sad2: Anyway, I chose NOT to have it taken out right now, as If I eat well and look after myself (I see a naturopath) I am mostly pain free. I have read so much about people having just as much pain, loose bowel movements and nausea after the surgery, So why would I undergo surgery if nothing is going to change? I don't have stones so there minimal chances of the tumours dislodging, Otherwise I would probably have it taken out.
I truly hope you get some relief soon, My naturopath put me onto a website that has some great info, Especially about Diet, There are definitely foods that set me off (coffee, more than 3 alcoholic drinks, excessive dairy, nuts!), It may be worth looking at. If you think the surgery is worth it, please give me you opinion, TIA.
http://www.gallbladderattack.com/

May I weigh in on this as I have had my gallbladder removed? I didn't realize how much my gallbladder was affecting my health until I had it removed. I actually did not have an attack until after my ophthalmologist saw something in my eye pressure that advised me to see my doctor.

I made an appointment for the next month. In the interim, I had a terrible attack which at the time I did not realize was a gallbladder attack. When I finally went in (DH made me) they told me I was lucky that it had not been worse or started leaking.

I too postponed the surgery for about 4 months as I was going to our Lake house for the summer. I watched my diet carefully not eating any fat or red meats. I didn't loose an ounce even with exercise. I did not have another attack.

After I had my surgery, I can not even describe how much better I felt as I did not realize how my gallbladder issues were affecting my health. My eye pressure is back to normal. I am now able to loose weight and in fact, have lost 30 pounds since the surgery.

What I do experience is looser stools on occasion and I can not eat beef in steak form. I am not fond of hamburgers so haven't tried. The surgery was very easy and I had a fast recovery. I have a very minimal scar.

One always needs to listen to ones body. I think you know the best thing for your body.

Just my thoughts....

Oh dear! Just returned from coffee with a friend in a nearby town. Whilest there I just had to mooch round the shops.....and HAD to buy a lovely summer maxi dress, and a pair of trousers for the cruise......:rolleyes1

ooooohhhh .....cruise shopping....the best kind !!!! :woohoo:

Just spend more time here! We'll excuse the sloppy one handed typing!

It is a real pain ....so slow and unnatural

Quite excited as the swimming costume has arrived, and it fits!!!! Wow. It is a skirted one, and I have been waiting for it to come back in stock for ages. I really wasn't expecting it to fit, so just can't believe it. I usually have to go and try on the whole shop before finding one that does, and this was just one I sent for online. If only everything was so simple. Bust support isn't too great, but there you go!!! I don't wander around much, or even hang around in my bathers onboard, so it suits me fine. Another thing to tick of the list.

Brilliant !!!! I hate buying swimwear ... never like myself in it.:sad2:

How about you give your DH his undies early and ask for a little catwalk demo? :smokin:

Nice and warm here too ... but I am in a grumpy old mood this afternoon as I feel very restricted  Tony is throwing some chicken on the barbie for dinner so that might cheer me up.

Anything over 20c is hot for us

Being new to DIS and just booking this cruise, I've been lurking and not really chatting. I do enjoy reading (skimming?) the chatter.

Welcome to anyone new and best wishes to all with medical issues (been trough gallbladder surgery--no more pain but have to keep away from fatty foods).

Q: We are on late sitting and haven't requested a specific table size. Is there a way to request being placed with DIS folks?

If you go to the first page, you will see this post by Totally Angelic:

I'll save you some research. QVC sells them here in the US (I'm a QVC queen...love them!), and apparently in the UK! Check it out!

Thanks, I hadn't checked there yet. I have found a few places and a good sizing guide. Still not sure which style to get though.

ooooohhhh .....cruise shopping....the best kind !!!! :woohoo:

I love shopping for vacations, cruise or otherwise. Trouble is most of my clothes are bought for that reason, and then I don't wear them much of course and the rest of my clothes are a bit nondescript!!! I don't enjoy other clothes shopping as much!!

I am definitely CURVALICIOUS! Right, DH? However, I am not vertically challenged - I'm 5'10. However I am shoe-challenged (which is worse!) My shoe size is 11 or 12. Try finding shoes easily for cheap with my size feet!

I have the opposite issue. Being officially Curvalicious though VC (Vertically Challenged), I have small feet and can often wear a boys 3. I often find kids shoes fit my feet better as they are wider.

What a fabulous deal!! I think those in the Armed Services deserve appreciation in any form but it is especially nice to see the DCL show their appreciation.

Hiya! PM Totallyangelic and she'll get you on the list. Nothing has yet been requested as we were waiting until nearer the date I believe.

LOL you're going to be requesting photos next!

Hot to us tends to be anything over 25 so I think we reached 26/27 today. Its gonna be 28/29 on Sunday and hotter still on Tuesday!

And on that note, I will be checking out as DD made an appt to visit UC Santa Barbara tomorrow and we are scheduled on a 2 pm tour. Sigh, so not looking forward to the drive back (its about 2 1/2 hrs from my house) but if the traffic "gets too bad" I've allowed some stop time at the Camarillo outlets on the way back. SIGH.....watch, just for that - I won't hit traffic. The one time you count on traffic and it won't come through.

Camarillo is my home town. On a Friday, there will be lots of traffic as you leave Santa Barbara. The good news is that the outets in Camarillo won't be crownded. Usually its only bad on weekends. Have a safe trip!

Congratulations on your discount!!! You deserve it!

Wow, just missing a few days of reading and I'm behind so many pages.

I hope all of you with health issues are better soon! My mom had her gall bladder removed and she had complications as well. Wishing you a pain free and speedy recovery!

Hope everyone has a nice weekend!

Payment plan for Florida resident Disney passes
By Leah Zanolla
Jun 25, 2010

Florida residents have a new option when it comes to purchasing their annual passes. Disney will now allow them to use a payment plan for their passes. This option will only be available online for the purchases of a new pass (not renewals) and is not available for residents of other states.

A down payment must be made equal to the price of a non-discounted 1-day Magic Your Way base ticket. Guests will then have 12 recurring payments automatically charged to a credit or debit card.
