That's very funny! Now, probably not so much when it was happening, lol.
My friend just broke her hip and has had screws put in, her doc gave her an airport security letter for future travel in case she sets off the scanner thingy! I had a screw in my nose (car accident) and never set it off, That must be some heavy duty underwire! :rotfl:

I know right????? Never happened before or since!

This reminds me of my embarressing travelling underwear story which I have to share because it was so so embarressing.

When I went to work in Disney there were around 11 of us flying out together from the UK on the same flight, via Washington Airport. We all met up at the airport as we got email addy's before we left so we could chat etc. Anyway when we got off in Washington we went through security and low and behold I set the scanner off. So after about 4 times through this scanner, taking off every peice of metal I could think of I had to have the hand-scan over my body thing - bearing in mind that the other 10 people were stood waiting looking very bored by this point! Anyway, it turns out after lots of "adjusting" shall we say, it was my underwire setting the machine off! I have never been so mortified in my life! Honestly I don't know what setting they had that scanner on but it was nuts! That bra went straight in the bin!

Oh no, I'm embarrassed for you reading that!!!:lmao::lmao::lmao:

I'm not as bothered going home with my packed undies, and of course some last minute clothes are dirty!!! I bet those security guys have to route through some pretty horrible things sometimes(not mine of course!!!:lmao:)

So true!

You are so funny! I'm sure the people see all kinds of things in suitcases and my knickers (or yours) are really not that interesting to them, I'm just silly. I must admit I do wear thongs, my husband calls them 'eyepatches', does that make them suitable for Pirates night? :lmao:

:lmao::lmao::lmao: Of course!!!!!!!

Oh, we really are beginning to get to know each other now aren't we?:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

I feel the cold really badly, I have poor circulation so I simply start shivering in aircon so its usually long sleeves for me and long pants.
You CRACK me up (in a good way)
Lynne Im thinking after penalty date - is that 75 days out?

Any UK people thought about insurance yet?
yes, weve had yearly travel ins for years no, insure and go, its expensive cause of the ski bit we have.
OK, just checked the FAQs on the Disney Cruise site. It clearly state cruise casual is no shorts, swimwear or tank tops. Doesn't say anything about jeans, so I'd assume they are OK. I will be wearing them if I'm cold. Our jeans are nice jeans, not ripped or dirty, and I promise not to have a 'plumbers crack'! :rotfl2:

I'm the opposite. I tend to take my best knickers, or even buy new ones.......I'm paranoid my bags will be searched in the airport in front of heaps of people and all my old ugly knickers will be on show! Silly, I know! :sad2::sad2::sad2:
I really dont care, call me a mink:laughing:
So I think we are going with - well until Sue gets back to us:

too funny, you know I ALWAYS get patted down, Is it wrong that I have actually started to look forward to and enjoy it.:lmao::lmao:

VISA is more acceptable than Mastercard. DISCOVER IS NOT ACCEPTED AT ALL. Specify Credit or Debit. Things are more expensive - like someone said, liken it to a day eating at a fancy restaurant. ALSO...........drum roll please. DO NOT ACCEPT ANY UNORDERED APPETIZER or plate you did not order. You will be charged for it. Example: We went to dinner with the family in 2007, we were given brushetta (unordered) we even heard the party next to us arguing with the waiter and before I could stop it - the girls dug right in. Well you guessed it - it was added to our bill. We had to pay for it. If they bring something to the table - return it or make sure you will NOT be charged for it.

Las Ramblas, one friend had his phone pickpocketed with 5 minutes of his arrival on Las Ramblas. DH was bombarded with "offers" when he got separated from us on the main drag. He was scared (doesnt speak a lick of Spanish even after 23 yrs together) but was left alone whenever I was next to him. Be aware of your surroundings, especially if someone seems to be walking near you - if you see the same person - BE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS. Also on the metro, if anyone comes in and stands next to you, especially if they have an overcoat or a sweater hanging over their folded hands, be aware. They are preparing to be pickpocketed. Safety in numbers and someone should always be aware. That's how we did it in our group. We would take turns watching. Carry all your stuff in front of you, not behind you. If you have a purse, carry a cross body purse and keep it in front of you. I walk with my hand on top of the zipper at all times.

If you can hit the farmer's market in the middle of Las Ramblas, the fruit is fresher and cheaper than in a restuarant and can make a great gift for the stateroom hosts.. :)

I do have some pictures if anyone is interested that I can post later. Right now the princess just got home from finals and is dying of hunger. I can talk more later. I'll check my receipts if I can find them.

Oh yeah, watch out for the "beer sellers" on Las Ramblas. They are NOT always selling beer. They will get in your face attempting to sell and they may be working with someone who comes up behind you. The get pushy. My experience was that these persons "selling" are not native Barcelonians. There are a lot of transients and a lot of disconnect so the name of the game is vigilence.

Must admit we must have been lucky in Barcelona last year, and had no trouble at all, even though we were n't particularly vigilant (well, no more than usual)....I was more concerned with the sleazy guys whistling and ogling my dd to be honest!!!:rolleyes1

Thanks for telling me I am a pomegranate not a coconut. I like coconut better, but I am happy to be in ANY group. You are right, it does sound funny!

I feel bad, I posted my FE on the FE disboard and Kimberly peeked. Oh well, you were right Kimberly, made with my heart! I know she is not a pomegranate but a dear friend. Sorry Kimberly, I hope you will still act surprised!

Oh! Must remember not to check that thread out!:thumbsup2

Sarah! That happened to me too! (dd laughed like a drain because we'd been warning her it would happen to her as she has so many piercings!! That showed me!) :rotfl2:

What???? Now I want to know what you deleted!!!

me too!!!:thumbsup2

Such a lovely day today, lots of sunshine :cool1:

Planning a nice day with Becky today as she's planning to go back to Bristol tomorrow. May go and see SATC 2 later.....:)

Ok, Hard Rock Cafe. Anywhere else? McD's if desperate I guess.

yes, heard they should be ok...also the big dept store at the top of LAs Ramblas....can't remember the name (Cordoba?) it was mentioned a couple of pages back...you can't miss it anyway :) They have a great Sephora in there too....if you like make up its fab!:thumbsup2

DH and I are starting to plan how much currency and stuff we need to bring on this trip. In Barcelona, how much (approximately) is a:

-coffee
-bottle of water
-a sandwich
-a simple meal (table service, cafe)
-a family-style restaurant dinner
-a nice dinner (like where you would go on a date)
-fruit from vendors/markets?

About how much are museum tickets? Bus tickets?

Is VISA well accepted in Barcelona? How about Mastercard? Do most restaurants take credit card?

And-

Do you carry your passport with you in places like Barcelona in a safe spot, or the hotel safe or room safe? What about extra cash?

What are the toilets like in Barcelona? How do children find them? Are there places to change diapers? Are umbrella strollers easy to use in Barcelona?

Sorry to sound so naive. I haven't been to Spain before. I feel comfortable protecting our belongings - I just have some questions about things that will help me plan and frame our trip better. I am a planner.
Thanks for asking these questions! I am eagerly looking forward to reading the answers. I am pages and pages behind but I know these seasoned travelers will have it all spelled out in the next few pages.:goodvibes:goodvibes

I'm more like you... I go and buy new ones... I toss all the old ones in the bin before we leave... (talk about too much info...)

Most of Spain shuts down for a seista between 3 and 5 I think it is (can't remember precise times) so a lot of restaurants also shut down. I can't remember if many places stayed open last time I was there sorry. Its an old tradition to do with paying people for lunch hours if they work over a certain amount of hours a day.

I like this idea... I think I will start implementing it today... Wonder what my boss would say if he got an out of office message that said "I am on Siesta, back in 2 hours"...:rotfl2:

Maybe we can pick a night, put our clothes in and go up to deck 9 and party while we wash/dry :)

Krisann

Don't think Disney would like it if we put our clothes in the laundry then went up to deck 9 this is supposed to be a family cruise:lmao:

Couldn't resist making a comment:rolleyes1

I have a couple of weeks here then we fly up to see my DD and SIL (he wouldn't want to be called darling!) in Canada for a week. Booked it long ago when things were not chaotic.

Hopefully the weather is as good as it is now when you come up here.

I dunno getting stuck in Florida? Sounds ideal!

Our problem is that we have to do this flight at the start of the trip. Coming from Canada.

LOL I hope not for both of your sakes! Who are you flying with this time?

Easyjet now

I just deleted what I typed:rotfl::rotfl:

Sometimes those filters kick in, sometimes they don't. :goodvibes

I know, As soon as I posted my last message I thought 'mmmm, too much information Hayley', that's me, speak before I think. Hope there were no boys reading! :headache:

To late;)
