After two previous flights from UK to Barcelona have been cancelled after booking:sad2:, Lyn (Lyn9856) has booked our flights again. Fingers crossed that these ones don't get cancelled. If they do I will start to suspect someone doesn't want us cruising:scared1: Don't they realize well be getting there one way or another :woohoo:

Jon

Well...you and I can swim Jon..........not sure about Bob and Candida :lmao:

:rotfl2: Hoagie Pie is NOT a coconut - she's a pomegranate. :rotfl2::rotfl::rotfl2:

Sorry, its just if anyone was reading over our shoulders, well.....no wonder we have a reputation. :rotfl2:

Thanks for telling me I am a pomegranate not a coconut. I like coconut better, but I am happy to be in ANY group. You are right, it does sound funny!

I feel bad, I posted my FE on the FE disboard and Kimberly peeked. Oh well, you were right Kimberly, made with my heart! I know she is not a pomegranate but a dear friend. Sorry Kimberly, I hope you will still act surprised!

For us, the boys want to dress, so we will do the tux package for both. for dinners we go with what DCL is currently requesting (according to letters that people have received) no jeans or shorts at dinner. So, that meant khakis for the guys. (Khakis generally weigh less than jeans too...) As they were only worn at dinner, it was 1 or 2 pairs and that was that. Stephen wore either polo shirts or button downs for dinner. Palo is strick about the no shorts policy! If you show uo in shorts, you will be asked to go and change.

For the girls, at dinner Becca likes to wear dresses, so it is lightweight party and sun dresses for her, paired with flips or sandles. For me it is a variety of lightweight dresses and capris.

The kids (all 4 of us) will live in shorts or bathing suites, but will need a coverup to go to lunch if not out on deck. We generally did lunch by the pool, as it was easy and no one needed to change. I did miss having lunch at Lumieres this last trip though.

I plan on doing wash a couple of times as I know I can't pack enough. the washers and drier work on your key to the world card, and you can get detergent onboard as well. (I bring detergent - but I deal with exzema and allergies... (Hint hint, you might get a laundry gift if you are a kiwi or pineapple!) The largest issue I see/find with doing wash is finding a time where the machines are not full and have a line as well... Last year I washed early AM (like starting before 7) when we were in Grand Caymen. This worked well for us - I was ble to get 2 washers and just be done with it. There are laundry facilities on 3 floors if I remember right. I have only used the ones on 6, but I think thre are machines on 7 and 2 (?) as well.

Oh - as for temps, we didn't seem to mind the cool air in the theater/shows but we were always rushing in so we were warm... The dining room was fine to us. I would bring a wrap of sorts though as I could just be odd...:confused3:rotfl2:

That's Sue :thumbsup2
Girls and Myself are as planned, DH is the problem, We live in such a hot climate he doesn't have/wear long pants except jeans. He wear dressy shorts like what you'd wear to golf, or cargo 3/4 shorts. So, good excuse for me to go shopping! I'll just buy him a couple of pairs, will be washing!!!

Agree with this. Dennis wears khakis and polo to dinner casual, I bring a few light dresses which I find are easier for me than trying to match tops and pants. Takes about a minute for me to slip a dress over my head and I'm ready. We have not found a sweater or wrap necessary for the diningrooms or shows, but if you tend to get cold you might. I too will do laundry either early morning, late night or on a port day. Sometimes you just have to get in line and wait. You can visit with others there waiting and make a party of it! :woohoo:

Capris or shorts for me during the day. T-shirts and khakis pants for Dennis. We are not hang out in our bathing suits people----lucky for all of you!!! :rotfl2::lmao::sad2::scared1:

I read some crazy women does laundry at 2am, I will probably join that crazy women a couple of times! :rotfl:

Us, too. For cruise casual, I'm in khakis and a polo; DW wears capris or slacks with a top or a light sun dress. However, she usually carries a wrap with her everywhere on board because she gets a chill in the dining rooms, theaters, bars, etc. (We've always lived in warm climates, so I guess our blood has thinned out! ;) )

That's what I thought, as we live in a warm climate I may feel the cold. Will bring a cardi and a wrap. :thumbsup2

OK what letter is this? I thought that jeans were fine for dinner as long as they weren't ripped? Well I can tell you now both me and Dan will be wearing jeans to dinner on Cruise casual nights! Dan will not wear Khaki's and I have no trousers only skirts and don't want to have to wear a skirt every night!

Anyone on this cruise recieved this letter? I haven't read about this anywhere??

This is what DCL website is saying:
----------------------------------------
Onboard DiningQuestion
What should I wear to dinner?
Answer
Dining Dress requirements vary by venue or theme night on your cruise. In general, most meals are "Cruise Casual"—no shorts, swimwear or tank tops. Most cruises also have special theme nights with additional attire requirements. Here's a breakdown of these events by cruise itinerary.

On 3-night cruises:

One cruise casual night—no shorts, swimwear or tank tops
One pirate or tropical night (deck party)
One "dress-up night"—jacket for men, dress or pantsuit for women
On 4-night cruises:

First night: cruise casual—no shorts, swimwear or tank tops
One pirate or tropical night (deck party)
One "dress-up night"—jacket for men, dress or pantsuit for women
Final night: cruise casual—no shorts, swimwear or tank tops
On 7-night cruises:

First night: cruise casual—no shorts, swimwear or tank tops
Three additional "cruise casual" nights—no shorts, swimwear or tank tops
One pirate or tropical night (deck party)
One formal and one semi-formal night—formal wear for men: tuxedo or suit; for women: gown or dress; semi-formal wear for men: suit/jacket; for women: dress or pantsuit.
Dress for dinner at Palo on all cruises:

Men: dress shirt or jacket, no shorts
Women: dress or pantsuit
For cruises that request formalwear attire, Guests can pre-order tailored formalwear rentals and have it delivered directly to their staterooms upon arrival. To learn more, visit Cruiseline Formalwear.

Sarah, as I said above Terry doesn't have long pants either. He will probably be wearing his good jeans a few times. If he wears his jeans I'll make sure he wears a nice button up shirt with them. ;)

We got ours couple of weeks ago. We are using points not cash for this cruise. I wonder if that makes a difference?

I know that someone posted what they thought the schedule would be a week or so ago (Formal, semi, pirates nights etc). Was that the final answer? We can make our Palo ressies/excursions this Saturday (Yippee!), if someone can post it again, that would be great.

Thanks
Annette :)

heard back from concierge that their list was wrong - and I should be getting a new one any day. More than likely it will be the other list that was put out there...

Keep asking to be a coconut and I will make you one!! I am holder of the master spreadsheet afterall... :rotfl2::rotfl2:

Hi Everyone,

I have been away from the boards, but am looking forward to the WBTA.

We were on the EBTA and are continuing with our travels in Europe. (Hi KrisannB and kcashner! We enjoyed cruising with you.)

When we get home, I'll only have a few hundred pages to catch up. LOL.

Woody

Hey Woody!!! Looking forward to hearing all about your travels since the WBTA on the EBTA - looking forward to some more afternoon chats on the WBTA hopefully - it was just nice to sit and talk in the Promedade lounge. Hope the rest of your travels are great!

.

I read about this also before the EBTA and so I was freaked out as that is what DH wears mostly BUT we never got a letter like that for regular dining - now our papers about Palo did say no jeans (which we knew) - so I did not feel like we were going agaist policy as we had nothing saying no jeans for the main dining rooms.

I have started my ocd checking for room number.
When will we get them do you think?

on the EBTA upgrades/cabin assignments went out on Feb. 23 - I remember because it was my birthday!

I thought that the laundry rooms closed - but if not, I am all for the 2am laundry room DIS party!

ummm - maybe I should not be saying this as I am giving away my secret (JUST KIDDING) but yes the laundry rooms are open 24 hours - I did laundry one morning from 2 - 4 am - used 4 washers and 4 dryers and there were still ones left over :) Laundry rooms are located on Decks 2, 6, 7 and 7 is the largest.

Maybe we can pick a night, put our clothes in and go up to deck 9 and party while we wash/dry :)

Im game! The more the merrier... We can take over all the washers and driers...

That's just insane to have a 30 minute wait at 2am!! I'm hoping we will get lucky and just pick an off time (if there is such a thing).

Anyhow, I'm finally getting around to planning all the little details and I'm trying to pick between 2 places to eat at Heathrow Airport during our layover.
After looking on the airport website and reading some reviews we are thinking either Crown Rivers or Huxley's. Has anyone been to either of these?
We'll be in Terminal 5 so we are limited to what's there. Niether of us are big seafood eaters but I'm interested in some Fish & Chips and Gus is a burger kind of guy so if you can recommend someplace else, let us know!! I don't normally plan airport meals but since we have never been to London thought it might be fun to try something localish, even if it is airport food. ;)

Howdy all!

Back home from helping out with the parents for the past month.

I have a couple of weeks here then we fly up to see my DD and SIL (he wouldn't want to be called darling!) in Canada for a week. Booked it long ago when things were not chaotic.

Then home for 2 days and then back to the folks for the rest of the summer until we get them moved out of the house, fix up the house, have a giant garage sale, and get their house sold. We have to get it done before my sis has to go back to teaching in August. We will probably have to call in the whole clan, it is a huge project.

I was hoping to get some more research for the cruise done before I booked excursions this weekend, but I think we will eeny-meeny-miney-mo!

My research this week has turned into getting a rental car in Toronto and figuring out if we need to book any touristy thing in advance there. We are looking forward to seeing DD's first house!:goodvibes

I will try to get on the boards from time to time. Sadly, it will not be as much as I had hoped.

I missed twenty pages in the middle of the thread. I hope it wasn't anything good! :goodvibes

It sure did. Thanks for sharing

After two previous flights from UK to Barcelona have been cancelled after booking:sad2:, Lyn (Lyn9856) has booked our flights again. Fingers crossed that these ones don't get cancelled. Jon

Good luck. Sounds frustrating.

For laundry, I plan to bring a few sheets of Purex 3 in 1 - lightweight & flat.

We picked up two boxes to take. Hope they work good. We have not tried them yet.

I had no idea you coupld plan where to eat at the airport. We get in very early in the morning so I assume nothing is open. Drats. I would have loved to have fish and chips

I have finally started getting organized. I have finished two dresses for DD so at least she will look nice for dinner.

Oh the topic of Barcelona and young children - DD was 2 last time we were there. She was toilet trained so we didn't use change rooms - but the public toilets were - lets just say interesting. We did find it a bit difficult with the stroller - often there was no lift or ramps to get to subways, shops and restaurants, the older parts were difficult with uneven surfaces etc. Oh and people don't seem to see the prams or kids - they sort of just walk right through them.

Oh yeah and eating times in spain are interesting. everything shuts by about four and re-opens after eight, so carry snacks and plan accordingly.

However we survived - still had a good time and are looking forward to going again.

Oh wow! Thanks for letting us know. Can you get sandwiches or anything around dinner time??

Thanks for all the info on the toilet issues in Spain. I am a "toilet snob" and all this information is helpful. I know that sounds funny, but it is true. I don't even like the airplane bathrooms. I am not snobby towards people, only toilets!!:rotfl2::rotfl2:

I am the same way about toliets! I think I've passed it on to my 3 year old too! So, we'll see what happens!!

Well back to work after 3 days off. Had the grandchildren on and off this weekend. Very emotional weekend, but we are going to get through this. I want to know if I knock my son in the head is it considered assault or discipline when he is 31?:confused3 Well guess that is not an option. On to plan B.

Nup, he's still your child, discipline away!!!:thumbsup2

Oh, yes, today is most assuredly a DIS day... I am working from home and spending the vast majority of my day printing more magnets, cutting magnets out, and taking pictures of what they look like on my garage door... and sending them to DH, who is working (seriously working...) :rotfl2:

You are hilarious! We are going to get along just fine, a couple of OCD planners!:cool1:

DD and her family headed back to OR early this morning. It was a fun 4 days with them. Now to get all those towels and sheets washed. :laundy: I'm baking bread, lawn needs to be mowed.....back to real life. :sad2:
Don't you love all that washing after having visitors, It's worth it though.:goodvibes

Oh yeah and eating times in spain are interesting. everything shuts by about four and re-opens after eight, so carry snacks and plan accordingly.

:)michelle
Didn't know that about eating hours, Thanks!

I always take a blanket into the theatre to watch movies. LittleDisneyLovers, if you are like me because I live in Florida, you will freeze!!

I even keep my cabin warm. As far as jeans, we have always worn jeans on the first night/lastnight and the night of our day excursions because that is what we wear out in Europe. We never had time to change. We went to the head server in the beginning and apologized for not showing up for dinner on several nights, but we couldn't make it back in time, change, etc. He assured us that it was no big deal. The head server just assured us that he wanted us to eat :rotfl: One night on the EBTA in '07 we were in Animators and there were only about 20 tables taken, if that, because people were out or tired. It was quite funny. I think they prefer no jeans because they want to make it a relaxing dining experience even though I am relaxed in jeans.

I always wear my Transatlantic sweatshirt on the cruise - in fact, I am not packing, I plan to buy! That will keep me warm. I had to wear it every day on the EBTA.

Thanks for all the info on the toilet issues in Spain. I am a "toilet snob" and all this information is helpful. I know that sounds funny, but it is true. I don't even like the airplane bathrooms. I am not snobby towards people, only toilets!!:rotfl2::rotfl2:

I thought that may be the case, that I will freeze.
I though jeans were OK in the dining room, not Palo, and not on Formal nights though? Are they not?
My DH is a loo snob, he will sometimes drive home to go to the loo!:lmao:

I have started my ocd checking for room number.
When will we get them do you think?
Soon I hope!!!

Love it, so precious!:lovestruc

VISA is more acceptable than Mastercard. DISCOVER IS NOT ACCEPTED AT ALL. Specify Credit or Debit. Things are more expensive - like someone said, liken it to a day eating at a fancy restaurant. ALSO...........drum roll please. DO NOT ACCEPT ANY UNORDERED APPETIZER or plate you did not order. You will be charged for it. Example: We went to dinner with the family in 2007, we were given brushetta (unordered) we even heard the party next to us arguing with the waiter and before I could stop it - the girls dug right in. Well you guessed it - it was added to our bill. We had to pay for it. If they bring something to the table - return it or make sure you will NOT be charged for it.

Las Ramblas, one friend had his phone pickpocketed with 5 minutes of his arrival on Las Ramblas. DH was bombarded with "offers" when he got separated from us on the main drag. He was scared (doesnt speak a lick of Spanish even after 23 yrs together) but was left alone whenever I was next to him. Be aware of your surroundings, especially if someone seems to be walking near you - if you see the same person - BE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS. Also on the metro, if anyone comes in and stands next to you, especially if they have an overcoat or a sweater hanging over their folded hands, be aware. They are preparing to be pickpocketed. Safety in numbers and someone should always be aware. That's how we did it in our group. We would take turns watching. Carry all your stuff in front of you, not behind you. If you have a purse, carry a cross body purse and keep it in front of you. I walk with my hand on top of the zipper at all times.

If you can hit the farmer's market in the middle of Las Ramblas, the fruit is fresher and cheaper than in a restuarant and can make a great gift for the stateroom hosts.. :)

I do have some pictures if anyone is interested that I can post later. Right now the princess just got home from finals and is dying of hunger. I can talk more later. I'll check my receipts if I can find them.

Oh yeah, watch out for the "beer sellers" on Las Ramblas. They are NOT always selling beer. They will get in your face attempting to sell and they may be working with someone who comes up behind you. The get pushy. My experience was that these persons "selling" are not native Barcelonians. There are a lot of transients and a lot of disconnect so the name of the game is vigilence.
Thanks for all your insight, I'm sure it will come in very useful! :thumbsup2

I thought that the laundry rooms closed - but if not, I am all for the 2am laundry room DIS party!

I vote we all order Mickey bars and meet in the laundry!!!

Super organised! Thanks for sharing Paula, I know your a seasoned traveller, so it's good to see what I really need. Very interesting, you don't have nearly as much as what I thought I'd need. Great!:thumbsup2

WOW Paula I am so impressed with your organisation, I feel a list coming on myself now. Sounds as though you will have an empty suitcase going back or do you plan to fill it up again in Orlando :rotfl:
