I don't particularly care if I see the Barbary apes but do want to see the caves.

Great idea. I may do something like this for DH. He can watch it on the plane and refresh himself everyday so he knows what is going on. Great thinking!!!!

I am working on basic cruise slides in Keynote but it can be sent to Powerpoint as well, so I will provide the file for anyone to add in extra slide to personalize it, once I have completed it. :surfweb:

I would love to have a copy. Will you post when you have completed or should I send you a PM??

Okay , I have to point this out cause you will hear alot when in Gibraltar....They are not monkeys , they are apes ....No tails .... Tails = Monkeys - No tails = apes ... lol Just thought I would point that out

Well I started to put apes but since Laura put monkeys, I didnt want to confuse anyone....I do remember that little lesson tho...NO TAIL = APE!!!

Oh please I love the idea.

My DH likes to work on spreadsheets and magnets. The rest he leaves up to me. I forward him all my plans and he puts them on spreadsheets. We are probably the only people you know who have three computers in their bedroom!!

Kinda like Xmas. I do all the shopping and he does all the wrapping...

Just my thoughts..
.
:surfweb:

Lucky you. I cannot trust Dh to wrap. First he leaves the price tag on and secondly he is more likely to leave it in a bag and give it to the person.

I thought I read here that English is widely spoken and that we will be fine not trying to learn the local languages. :confused3 Do I need to get Dennis going on learning Catalan, Spanish and Portugese??

We only spoke English and it was never an issue for us. Our driver spoke English as well.

I must be very lucky as I have a dh who is very excited and loves planning for the cruise!:woohoo:

You are luckier than you know.;)

DH and SIL Sheryl sit down with a bottle of Scotch and start wrapping on Xmas eve. The only two presents I have wrapped are the presents for the two of them and I have them prewrapped where ever I buy them. I have purchased them for Xmas 2010 and have both already wrapped and in closet.

DH and I both have Dec birthdays so we only do one small thing for each other and something big like a trip we do together for both occasions.

You've never heard of any variation of a buckeye?!! Wow!

I believe kukui nuts are mostly from Hawaii and known as a popular lei there. I'm 99% sure kukui trees are Hawaii's state tree, too.

You'll see on the keychain below what a real buckeye looks like. I made these for some of the adults on my last cruise by drilling a hole through them and then threading the string through it. They do have to dry out before you drill them though. As you can see, it's brown with a tan top and irregular in it's roundness.

We call them conkers from a horse chestnut tree.

I know disney tells you that you only need to have your Key to the World and "photo ID" which most people from the US take their DL - but when we go off the ship (even on closed loop cruises) we take our passports with us (copies remain on board of the ship) because if something would happen to us, accident, get arrested for doing something we did not know was wrong (has happened - not to us) miss the boat, or anything that you might need your passport to prove who you are and get back to the states by plane if need be.

Are we the only ones who think this way? I just don't want to get caught in a strange country with no citizenship "papers" so to speak to prove where I belong.

Any thoughts?

I take the copies with us and leave the originals on the ship. I figure I can make more copies if something happens, but if the originals are gone, then we could be in a bind. If you get in a bind someone from the ship can get your documents from the safe and bring them to you...

That's what we do...take copies and leave the originals on board.

I would love to have a copy. Will you post when you have completed or should I send you a PM??

I will host the file in my .mac folder and provide a link by PM to those interested.

We should hold a class for all the non-planner husbands in the terminal. Divide the class up and several of us can teach sections, 3 mins or less per section and lots of pictures or they will lose interest;

Dis Meets
Ports
Meals
Sea Day Activities
Drink Tastings
Special guests
MISC.
:teacher:

or perhaps a powerpoint presentation that they could play on the plane(s), lol.

Pj

Sounds great! Sign my husband up! :)

My DH is really excited about the cruise and is into the planning as well so I guess I'm lucky! But I do like the Powerpoint Presentation idea though! LOL!

Hi everyone!

My shoulder is back to 100%, thankfully! It hurt a little at the Disney Store yesterday while I was working but nothing too bad. It must have been a muscle that I pulled...I hope I don't pull it again!

Kimberly, it's so nice to see you posting again! I missed you!

FE question. What I am planning on doing, I believe I will have enough for all of the cabins so is there a way I can get a list of all of the staterooms/Dis names for everyone participating in the FE? It may or may not work out, but I was just wondering if it would be possible.

Spent the day with my husband and it was so nice. We had lunch at the Olive Garden (I love their soup, salad and breadsticks meal) and then visited Whole Foods Market and Trader Joe's. We had a great time just walking around.

In one week from right now, I'll be in New York City seeing "Glee" in concert! I can't wait!!! I love that show!!! My sister and I are going up for the day so it should be exciting. I haven't been to NYC for over a year and a half so it will be nice. They are playing at Radio City Music Hall so I'm excited to go there again. It should be fun!

I hope everyone is having a great day! :)
glad your shoulders better, I LOVE the olive garden, man I really love it, we went the first night of our honeymoon in fl 18 years ago, good choice!
I can imagine it's getting hot and humid in GA. It was humid here today but not hot...we have the A/C on but that's because we don't get a breeze inside of our apartment.

OK, silly question for the ladies... I started getting my nails done when I got married in October. I've been getting my nails filled every two weeks since then. Do you know if I would be able to get my nails filled in the spa? And if so, any idea how much it might be?
Yip, there is a price list on disney site.
ok I want people to tell me if I am just crazy or if what we do makes sense to anyone else because on the EBTA when someone saw us do this they got really freaked out.

We have never even thought about it when we were in America.
Perfect, Since there are a lot of us who want to see this, would it be worth hiring a bus?

No, Our boat is perfect for us right now, but DH did pick out his next 'step up' which will have to wait a few years. :rolleyes1

Bus? Or maybe we could all organise to share taxi's, or maxi taxi's?

Me, me, me, we're first time cruisers are completely naive to lot's of the 'done things'. So the checklist would be great!

OK, I tried to avoid it, but now I have to make it, It sounds so good!

Hi, I'm a first time cruiser, so we've obviously never met, But Hi, I'm Hayley. We will be travelling as a family with my DH, Terry and 2 DD's, Lucy and Bella.

I'm glad your shoulder is better! ;)
Now...your making me jealous, you work in the Disney Store, had a beautiful lunch with your DH, your going to NYC and seeing GLEE!!!! Lucky Girl! Have a wonderful time! :goodvibes

Oh, we're all by ourselves :sad1: Oh well, only 1 night and we'll be waaaay to jet lagged after 34 hours to be great company anyhoo! :)

You learn something new everyday ;)

KrisannB - I understand your reasoning about the passports, And totally agree. But Su_Kraft idea about taking the copy and leaving the original onboard sounds like a better idea to me. And that's what we'll be doing, Thanks Sue....again! :)

Ok, I need to get my A into G and do some housework, enough tea breaks....although it's nearly lunch time!
Since there is 4 of us, we are just sharing a taxi, but if there were lots of 2s going it would def be worth sharing a taxi.
We are sitting on the deck tonight, listening to the crickets and the creek and talking about what else... The cruise!! :cool1:

So we were looking into snorkeling and parasailing and then got to St. Maarten adn started to think back to when we were first there, and what we did. And then moved onto St Thomas... I was reminded of the excursions we took...

Glenn and Stephen did the mini sub and I took Becca to the Aquarium. She was about 14 moinths old at the time, and the only child on the trip. I think everyone was waiting for the meltdown... Well, we pte the baby shark, saw the HUGE lizzards, and were doing great. Headed back to the bus and all was well... Driving down to the ship Becca started to fuss. I got out her pacifier and handed it to her thinking she would take it, put her head on my shoulder and sleep. Yeah, right... She took it alright... And tossed it off the bus... I was ready to cry, but she thought it was funny... She made it back to town, and to see daddy and all was fine... We learned that they stock Pacifiers on the ship - and they are pretty expensive if I remember right!

Sue
Sounds like a lovely night Sue.
Since it's all seeming more real and there's been talk about people meeting up this summer, I just wanted to remind you that we have the Global Google Map for you to pinpoint where you are from. :magnify:

So if you haven't taken a look at it or added yourself, I encourage you to check it out! Personally, I find it interesting to see the diversity of where we are all from!

Directions:

  • Click on this link to Google Maps.
  • Zoom in to your location on the map.
  • Click the [Edit] button in the direction of the upper left corner of your screen and right beside the map. This will pop up some iconic buttons on the upper left corner of the map.
  • Click on the "Placemark" button that looks like a blue balloon. This is located on the top of the map itself.
  • Click on the location on the map where you are located, which will put the Placemark on the map.
  • In the "Title" Field, put your DIS name.
  • Feel free to add your real names or whatever comes to mind in the Description Field.
  • Click [OK] to save what you typed, and you're finished!
Trouble is everybody keeps moving us so I gave up putting us back in scotland:rotfl:
I was told there was a big taxi rank on the beach
Thanks Sarah, I suppose there would be.
Unfortunately my wife and I will have to cancel this cruise due to her Mom becoming sick and not able to watch our children while we cruise. We were so looking forward to this, but her Mom's health is far more important. Not really sure how this works but I will call DVC and see how the points get refunded. Hope you all have the best cruise ever!! I will pm Eric with our cancellation so no lanyard needed.

HAVE FUN!!!
Sorry,we will miss you, but your right health comes before cruising.
Hope one of the lucky members that was able to book excursions already can help me.

We are trying to decide what to do in Tortola. Candida wants to do the Dolphin swim and I would like to snorkle. We don't have much time in Tortola but I am wondering what the timings are for the two excusions. We might be able to fit both in if there is morning and afternoon timings for the two activities. Does anyone know the actual times of the Dolphin swim and Norman Island snorkle?

Thanks,
Jon

good q jon, we want to book this as well.

So sorry to hear this on both counts.

I tried to help out with this....The Norman Island snorkle is either at 8:45 amd or 12:15 pm and lasts 3 hours. I did not find a Dolphin Swim listed as an excursion??? :confused3 I would not think it would be filled yet and don't even find it with no availability.

Thankyou so much, fingers crossed we can get booked.

Some of you may remember Hadley (NHDisneyLover) who had to switch their cruise from this one to the May 26 Med cruise due to the German school her DD is going to would not let her take the time off unless she repeated the school year. Well, I heard from her today. They have made it to Barcelona and are anxiously awaiting to be home on the Magic Wednesday! I'm sure they'll have a grand time even though their closest DIS BFFs aren't with them.

As a side note, I have to tell you that I feel that we're so lucky to have our little family here. Her Meets thread never even made it to 100 pages in its lifespan.

We call them conkers from a horse chestnut tree.

That's a good piece of trivia for me! I'm going to go check that out! Thanks for sharing!

I think it would be nice to learn all 3 languages but I am concentrating on updating my California Spanish to Castillian....

You know, I was just at a bookstore today (albeit small) looking for a CD or even a book on Catalan but couldn't find one. Do you mind sharing what your source is?

....Trouble is everybody keeps moving us (Google Maps) so I gave up putting us back in scotland:rotfl:....

Oh no! I hope I haven't!! You can see who last updated a Placemark. I did update some yesterday so the "Title" said the DISname instead of "Placemark ###". Unfortunately, it is pretty easy for people to make modifications when they're unfamiliar with the app. For instance, I know that I had a long description under the map name that gave step-by-step instructions, but one of us mistakenly thought that was where they put their name and such, so it was zapped. :scared1:
**The key is to NOT be in edit mode when you're browsing so you don't move someone when you didn't intend to do so.**

Jon, the dolphin excursions listed on the DCL site are not showing up for booking for me. It could be that they haven't open them yet at all, I know this happened on other cruises in the past. Once DCL has contracted for specific times on the day we are in port it will be listed on the booking page.

But here are the snorkeling times;

Catamaran Sail and Snorkel 8:30 -2:30
Snorkel at Norman Island (3hrs) 8:45 or 12:15
Virgin Islands Sail, Snorkel and Beach Adventure 8:00 -12:00pm

Thanks for the info. :thumbsup2
