Just popping in with a quick hi. Been back for about 4 hours from having my op. All has gone well. Been sleeping mostly. Have pain from the op and the gas they pump in, but this will go one way or another!!!;)

I look like they have drained the life blood from my face!!!

Hope you're all having a nice weekend.

Marilyn, so glad everything went well, wishing you a speedy recovery:flower3:

Boy is the Dis is slow today,

I was trying to find a picture of the plane coming in for a landing in St Maarten. My ext. HD is not hooked up. So as soon as I get it hooked up I will post it. It was very loud and very neat. It is not within walking distance from the ship, unfortunately.

Be back shortly with a picture.

17 weeks. I just can not wait. :goodvibes

So now that I've called DCL and confirmed the little birdie, I need to figure out what days we want to do brunch, tea and dinner. We haven't gotten tired of Palo yet. In fact, we see it as a must do. Every restaurant holds some sort of zest to it, so I don't care which meal we miss to do Palo.

I'm putting the dates into my iPhone. If I can remember, the dis tea is on the 25th??? We have never done tea at Palo. What time is that?? And I think that is the "themed" night for dinner. It doesn't say what type of dress.

I keep swaying back and forth on my FE gifts. First I want to do one thing, then I think I should do another. Scrambled brains.:lmao::confused3:lmao:

Shore excursions. The one I know I'm NOT going to do is City under siege or any other tour with a cable car. At first, I said I was going to put on my big girl pants and do it, a once in a lifetime type thing. But my heart races looking at the PICTURES of the cable car. I can't look down from the roof of our 6 story parking garage. Who am I kidding??:rotfl::rotfl:

I am so excited!:dance3::dance3:

You will definitely want to take a taxi or book a tour. Taxi from the pier to Maho is about $8 pp. You can also book an all-day tour, including Maho and Orient Beach (I've heard that Bernard is very good) for $30 pp.

The last time we went to Magan's Bay, there were very few people there. Plenty of space on the beach and in the water. (We did get a brief afternoon shower. Almost everybody got out of the water and ran for cover, even though it was not a thunder storm! Afraid of getting wet when you're already swimming in the ocean? :confused3) It is a beautiful beach to look at, especially from the top of the mountain. However, if you want to get away from the crowds and go to an absolutely beautiful beach, I recommend taking the ferry over to St. John and going to one of their many beaches. :cool1:

What about getting back to port, are there taxis hanging around the beach?

OK all so so far this is what I have put in it. If anyone can think of anything I've missed let me know......

Great content, Sarah! Thank you!!

If others would benefit, I have two suggested topic additions.

  • Come See Us
  • Embarkation Don't Forget Checklist

Come See Us: On my last cruise, there were a handful of us who asked for others to come visit our cabin door for one reason or another. This is the case for me this time, too, because I want visitors to come to sign my scrapbook page that I'll have up on my door (click here to see one I had on my door last time; here's another, too). Another reason people had was that they were home schooling and wanted cruisers to stop by and mark on a flat global map where they were from so they could incorporate that into a lesson when they returned home. Are there any others who would like to have us specifically stop by and see your cabin's entryway? I know I would go out of my way to stop by and help you out!

Don't Forget Checklist: Although there aren't many, I know that we still have some DCL first timers with us. On my first Disney cruise, I wanted to make sure I had my priorities right when I boarded, so I put a checklist of things you want to potentially address when you embarked on our Meet's "go-to" post. You can see what we had on our collective list here. The list may need updated with current info (like I don't know if the discount is give any longer), and I'm sure that there are other checklist items that people here can suggest as well.

This is very impressive. I had not thought to pre-make my scrapbook cover page and have folks sign it. I really liked the "Don't Forget Checklist" as well. I make one for myself, but this would be great for everyone and may give us all additional ideas.

Awe...thanks!

Do one! I promise to be by to sign it! I'm also going to bring it to our DIS Meets on Saturday to try and get more.

Palo tea is at 3pm. I'm always surprised how few tables are used with there always being such a high demand. It is however very calm and proper in there.:);) So, with all the restaurant filled it might not have that ambiance!!;)

This was the recipe I used..... (from the Sainsbury web site).......

Mascarpone & Lime Torte

A dessert that could also be made using the zest and juice of oranges or lemons.

Serves: 8
Preparation time: 40 Minutes
Cooling Time: 30
Nutrition per serving: 431 cals, 34g fat, of which 5g saturated fat, 15g added sugar, 0.3g salt

You will need
• 200g pack ginger biscuits, crushed
• 50g butter, melted
• 2 x 250g tubs mascarpone cheese
• 40g icing sugar, sifted
• Finely grated zest and juice of 2 limes* (I used 3 for extra zing!)
• 50g dark chocolate, melted and made into chocolate leaves

Method
1. Mix together the crushed biscuits and the butter and press it into the base of a 18cm spring form cake tin. Beat together the mascarpone cheese, icing sugar, lime zest and juice. Spread over the biscuit base.
2. Chill for 30 minutes. Carefully remove the torte from the tin, by running a warmed knife around the inside of the rim, and decorate the top with chocolate leaves or shredded lime zest.

Enjoy!:rolleyes1

Made it tonight....and it was absolutely fabulous! :lovestruc Decorated it with choc leaves and frosted green grapes..too busy scoffing to stop to take a pic....sure to be a favourite from now on. Would work in lime or lemon!
Thanks so much for passing it on!

I
Todd - I ordered my luggage, just one for right now, so I am getting rid of my luggage with only one wheel. I am excited about using it and since my husband was apprehensive, he will use it for his San Francisco meeting in a couple weeks. If we like it, I will order another to get rid of the luggage with both wheels missing and a huge rip. Can you tell I needed luggage?

OMG Does that mean my Pal Mickey and I have to be calm and proper too????:lmao::lmao: Not sure what age I will be that day so that will impact my demeanor that day!!!:rotfl::rotfl:

Okay...I've just spent about four hours catching up on recent posts and others I knew would be of value since my absence from the DIS. I see I have several updates for the Pre-Cruise Accommodations List, so thank you, and keep them coming!

For those who remember from way back, I wanted to give an update on my grandmother. I ended up moving in with her to take care of her for 8 months. I "officially" came back home in early March and cried like a baby when I left. It was challenging and rewarding at the same time, but without question, it was time that I'll cherish forever! She's doing great and about 95% recovered from her surgery! I went up to visit with her for about 4 days this week, and we had a great time!

My 78 year old grandmother is just so cute! I have to tell you a funny story from my visit. If you're on FB with me, it will be a repeat for you, but it still cracks me up!

So Grandma and I were talking in her bedroom with her toy poodle, Sandy, laying on the bed. She says to me "There's a good chance I'm going to get another D-O-G." Yes. She spelled out "dog" so Sandy wouldn't know! :lmao: It was all I could do to not laugh hysterically, but somehow I did! (I love what Paula said in response on my FB page, which was that her german shepherd learned how to spell because they spelled in front of her so often!!! :rotfl:)

The next night, my mom was over at her house. I just couldn't resist. I had to tell Grandma that I had to "tell a funny" on her. It took me literally 4 minutes to tell the short story because I was laughing so hard before I could spell D-O-G! :rotfl2: OMG...we all laughed so hard that we were in tears!

This is a feel good story. :goodvibes Love it.
Angie, that is the one we did last September. The island is beautiful and you just about get all over and stop at quite a few view points. The tour guides are all lovely and friendly, and they make up a very nice fruit or alcoholic fruit punch onboard the catamaran too!!;)

We love seeing the sights, learning a bit about the culture and history and of course the rum punch won't hurt! :woohoo: I think we will enjoy this excursion.
By the way, I have been meaning to say this for a long time. I love what you put on your roll call!! Couldn't have said it better myself!

Ok, curious so I'm heading over to check it out.:surfweb:

Thanks for the tips on St. Thomas vs. St. Johns. I like a beach with a lot of room, spoiled I guess.

Also, Buckeye Gal - I want to sign the scrapbook page - how fun!! I am taking a scrapbook page for the Captain to sign too!!! Great ideas from everybody.

I cannot believe Lyn made the tart already. I am impressed!!! It sounded delicious!

I have to head off to the scrapbook store.;)
I keep forgetting to ask - is it too late to sign up for the tea?

:lmao::lmao::lmao: Depends how proper Pal Mickey can be!!!!! He might get away with not being of course!!!;):rotfl2:

Thanks all for the lovely greetings.:grouphug: I had a good night's sleep which surprised me - perhaps the last of the anaesthetic wearing off!!! Bit sore this morning, but really it is amazing how far this op has come. Hoagie Pie, wish you lived closer too!!!!!!!

Lynne, thanks. I had a good chuckle about the brand new tom as I read it as a brand new TUM!!!! I so wish.:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Marilyn, I am so glad you are feeling better. You seem to be having pretty much the same feelings I have when I had this operation a few years ago. I felt better immediately. I just hadn't realized how bad I was feeling until after the operation.

Great to hear that you're even feeling up to logging in to give us an update! I hope that gas pain goes away quickly...it's SO uncomfortable!

I love hearing about kid brags! Bring 'em on! Congrats to all of them!!

Well, it's past time to get some sleep. Good night or good morning, depending on where you are!

Glad to see you back on the DIS. I loved the story about your Grandmother. I was very close to my maternal Grandmother and your story brought back great memories of her.
