Oh Question:

Anyone every ordered Suite through DCL? If so when do I need to order by? Is there a cut off date? Don't want to order it too early but don't want to leave it too late either. Dan hates wearing formal wear so wont be buying any and this way he can wear it for the cruise and not moan lol!

It took me a few moments to figure out what you were asking about. When I read "Suite" I was think the Roy, Walt and other concierge suites on the ship. I assume you're talking about formal wear? My DH ordered formal wear through the Cruise Line formalwear guys for the 3 previous cruises we've done on the Magic. For the caribbean cruises, they request that you order at least a week or two in advance. We've never ordered more than a month in advance. That said, I don't know how they work it on the Med cruises, unless they just have a standing stock available onboard the ship.

If it's the only time you're ever going to wear it, then it's not a bad price. Make sure you take good measurements (another reason not to order too early should they change). There was a tailor/seamstress available on the 7nt cruise who made last minute adjustments one time when the tux really fit poorly.

The last cruise I started to put together my husband's own tux package through ebay and amazon purchases. Found a great jacket for $30, shirts for $10-12, bow tie and cumberbund for $6-10. Now I just need to find pants. He ended up wearing his shirt and jacket with the rental pants on the last cruise and we agreed that we liked the fit of his jacket and shirt better than the rentals. It'll come down to weight on this cruise as to whether we rent or bring his own from home.

Here's a little bit about us.

I found Dave on a Disney dating site called Dismates in June of 2006. I saw his profile and something about it made me KNOW I needed to get a hold of him. I couldn't figure out how to contact him through the site but his profile mentioned that he posted on the disboards so I came over here, searched for his screename through literally 20 pages of posts, joined the board and PMed him. We started talking through PM then eventually through emails and IMs and then on the phone. We had our first date on July 16, 2006 - we saw Pirates of the Carribean - I knew then I had met the man I was going to marry!

We got married on October 17, 2009 which makes our marriage exactly 4 months old tomorrow! :yay:

A little bit about us -

Dave works does data entry for a living at a shipping company. He enjoys reading, playing online games and board/card games.

I (Amy) is only working part time right now at the Disney Store. I got laid off from my full time job in July, but I am actively looking for a new profession. I enjoy dancing (I have been taking dance lessons at the same studio for 27 years), reading, writing, watching TV and spending time with my husband and my twin sister.

Is anybody enjoying watching the Olympics? I LOVE watching them! I'm excited for men's figure skating tonight.

We have used the rented tux twice. First time was perfect, the second time the sleeves were several inches too short. :headache: Since we have just taken his regular dark suit and it works fine. We are each allowed 2 bags on our flight (as of now anyway!) so I think we will be bringing it. I don't do a lot of shoes or other heavy stuff.
Sounds fab! Def would love some piccies!

Yes, photos!

We used the formal wear place that Disney suggests. They were great!

Seriously - we ordered about 3 weeks ahead, and the tux's (Glenn and Stephen) were in the room upon arrival. Now, come formal night... Glenn didn't try the jacket on upon boarding as they request... Needless to say, thre were sleeve issues. We saw our stateroom hostess, Marilyn, and asked if she knew if there was anyone to fix it. She said she would check and a few moments later here was a taylor! Not only did he adjust the sleeves, but he took the White jacket and made other minor alterations to it for our other dressy night.

Well worth the price! Oh - the boys went to a local formal wear place to get measured. One thing I will do this time around is send them with the measurements that cruiselineformal.com needs... We didn't do that last time...

Sue

LOL! That is true! But something in my heart told me I had to find him and I did!

What fantastic stories.

We met on my 19th birthday party, some one else brought Leonard, it wasnt love at first sight, but I was fair taken by Leonard.;)
The rest they say is history.

That was over 20 years ago, been married for 19.
I am 39 and Lens 51, that sounds a huge differance but when I get to 40:confused: it wont seem to bad. :rotfl:
We first went to Florida for our honeymoon, we were tight for money and I had a part time job in a pub at night as well as my full time job to pay for it, Len wanted to go to Portugal, its a shame we never went cause I would be rich:lmao:
We have never got around to having kids and definatly will not now as we are too old.
So we have our beagles instead:dance3:
We LOVE to travel, we love our convertable car.
And we have 2 horses to take up any spare cash we have !!!
Murphy the big horse is 13 ,we have had him since a year old. The old one was rehomed from a charity, she is cute and kicks Murph bootee into shape, and she is a tiny shetland.

My husband and I ALSO met on my 19th Birthday, that was 14 years ago, married for 11. :goodvibes

We have 2 DD, 8 and 9!

That is great! She will be thrilled. She's not a tweeny 10 year old - well not too much!

Great, my girls keep asking if there will be other girls to play with, Now I can tell them for definate. They will be very happy!;)

Our turn:

I am Carolynn, 37, and a midwife that works in the community, at home, and at two local hospitals. I like reading, knitting, planning vacations, gardening, photography, and camping. I have a stressful job as both a midwife and an owner of the practice, as well as the Head Midwife at our two hospitals, so I like to escape on to the Disboards for some immersive escapism! I am currently challenged by organizing our small house, and welcome the day when everything has a place.

DH, Paul, is 43 and an IT guy, who also teaches at an electrician's Local. He likes to read, hike, nap in chairs, knot-tying, and dreams of building a geodesic dome somewhere remote.

Kai is almost 12, and loves his DSi, Wii, being read to, building stuff, and is a an anchor in our family. He is quiet and easy-going, and has a strong sense of his own values. He stands out as a *truly* good person. He makes me look good as a mother! He is our Wall-E.

Taryn is 10 and our free spirit artist girl. She loves drawing anime and cartoons, loves swimming, and singing. She is fearless and loves her family and friends fiercely. She is our Lilo.

Alden is almost 3 and a demanding, charming, and active kid. He loves singing and making jokes, and has a lot of self-confidence. He is bright and enquisitive. He is our Mickey Mouse.

My Mom - Trudy - is 62 and a patient, kind, completely loving person. She is smart and bright, and great company.

Paul and I met through a friend while he was ending a relationship. A few months later, newly single, he looked me up and the rest is history! We jumped right into creating a family, and have been blessed with three terrific children. We have a dog (standard poodle, Georgie), a cat (blach DSH, Chickpea), a leopard gecko - Rainbow, many goldfish, and two chinchillas (Honey and Smoky). Did I mention we have a small house? :rotfl:

I love your descriptions of your family members, so Disney! :thumbsup2

So...Our story, we met through a mutual friend at a Nightclub. I went home and told my mum I met the guy I was going to marry. Three years later, I did. DH, Terry is 40 and runs our company in the commercial building industry. We have 2 DD, Lucy just turned 9 and Bella will be 8 a few days before the cruise. I have one more baby, my Spoodle (cross poodle and cocker spaniel) named Holly. The girls also have hermit crabs, well, crab, they don't seem to last long??:confused3 So that's us!

Oh, what a great group we have going. I love reading all your "how did you meet" stories. I'm also glad there seem to be a bunch of kids (especially teens).

Found a fabulous apt to rent in Barcelona that met DH's approval. It overlooks the Sagrada Familia. DS13 thinks that is just about the coolest part of the location :) Only challenge / benefit is that there FIVE sets of stair UP to the flat. At least we'll be in great shape by the time we get to the ship. I'm emailing tonight to see if we can get it reserved.

I'm praying it's easy to reserve.

Have a super night, ya'll!!

We've used cruiselineformal.com for all our cruises. It was a huge blessing on the long EB REPO last year. I don't recall any issues with size and condition. This trip, I'm considering renting tuxes for DH and DS15. It's just too expensive to buy all the stuff for DS15 when he's just going to grow AGAIN . . .LOL. Probably cheaper :) On one trip, we booked the cruise just 6 weeks beforehand and still were able to get the tuxes. Honestly, we just don't have room in the suitcases to include a tux. I DO have to bring all my DRESSES :)

I am TheDisneyGirl02's MIL. She's a fantastic girl and a perfect match for that son of mine! One thing she didn't note on there is that he proposed to her in front of the castle while they were vacationing at the parks on their own. A few days later, I and my Mom joined them on a 7-day double dip cruise. Their wedding was fantastic with beautiful fall colors and many Disney touches - including their choreograhped dance to "so this is love".

So besides being Amy's MIL, I am a 55 and a single parent (for 27 years) of two grown DS (Dave - Amy's DH - and Eric). I spend my weekdays working to survive and hopefully continue to support my Disney habit which has increasingly become a DCL habit. So officially I am a Senior CMMS Administrator for a pharmaceutical company at a research and development site. CMMS stands for Computer Maintenance Management System which just means I maintain the system that ensures all maintenance and calibration are performed on time at the site. I like to go to movies, read a good book and scrapbook when I can't be at Disney.

Oh - and so looking forward to this cruise!!!!!!

LOL sorry all just realised I can't spell!

Thanks for this. I think Ill email DCL and ask about the Barcelona ones but looking online the company DCL use actually go to numberous ports all over the world with different cruiselines so fingers crossed wont be a problem.

They had a tailor on the 14 night ones too as my sisters dress broke - the zip came out - and they tried to fix it. In the end they leant her a new dress as the zip needed replacing and they couldn't find one the right colour.

Is anybody enjoying watching the Olympics? I LOVE watching them! I'm excited for men's figure skating tonight.

I was watching the Snowboarding yesterday! Somehow I became an expert overnight as was saying things and then the commentators were saying the same thing lol!

Oh will have to make sure we measure his sleeve size carefully! I'm sure I saw on the web a sleeve size bit.

Thanks! Definately checking Sleeve size lol! I think on the website they tell you how to do the measurements. I don't know of any proper formal wear places around here for men and would probably never get Dan there so hell have to go with me measuring him

LOL! I did look on that cruiselineformal.com and they do rent dresses but don't think they do that for Disney cruises! Liking that they rent formal shoes for me though. That gives me more room for my shoes!

=LittleDisneyLovers;35443288]Welcome, How exciting, more Aussies. We live at Hope Island, are you close by? We have 2 girls, no boys.

We are only down the road, we live at Coombabah.

Lol I know right?

Oh and thanks for the tip on FSC! I emailed today to "complain" again about how this had to be on our ressie and they reshopped saying I still get the OBC (same reservation no so all good and room number for that one). Does mean about a $70 increase in per person price for the cruise but the FSC was like $300 and so I figure taking a bit of a loss is OK as its covered by the OBC.
Glad you got something sorted.

Sweet 19:goodvibes:goodvibes
I was watching the Snowboarding yesterday! Somehow I became an expert overnight as was saying things and then the commentators were saying the same thing lol!

Mens, snowboarding:scared1: brilliant.
Downhill, brilliant, figure skating, brilliant, speed skating brilliant.
I just love sports, esp winter.
DONT like the sledging, or whatever it is you call it these days.

For those of you that have travelled in Europe before, specifically Barcelona. Do you think a slash-proof bag is necessary?? The best one I found is $80. That's a little high for a small backpack, especially 'cause I already have a small backpack, but I will have my dslr in it. What do you guys think?

Necessary?

The bag I'm looking into is the Pacsafe TourSafe Sling/Backpack. It is slash-proof & also has hidden zippers to protect from pick-pocketing.

Also, pacsafe has a slash-proof camera strap. Do you think this is also necessary? I've read so much about the pick-pocketing. It has me worried.

TIA :grouphug:

No, I do not, if I did I would not be going to Barcelona.

Life is way way too short to worry that much, in MHO.
But, whatever make YOU happy and safe.

Aren't they fun to watch!

Oh will have to make sure we measure his sleeve size carefully! I'm sure I saw on the web a sleeve size bit.

Yes, it was the sleeves that were a problem the second time we rented as well.

OY!! I cannot keep up with you guys!!:lmao::lmao: I'm so far behind in reading this thread it isn't even funny.....but I figured it was time to start getting more active.

Apparently we're all telling our how did you meet your significant other stories?? Well here's my and Jason's story....

I was at a community event for LGBT youth and college students (he was 22 and a senior in college at the time) a few weeks before Christmas of 2002 and saw Jason across a room and became instantly infatuated. I talked to him a little at the event....but not really hitting on him or anything because I was actually there for work and I was older (28) and he was there as a college student so I didn't think it was really appropriate. Fast forward then to a separate community event (a big fundraiser gala event for a local non-profit in our area) the day before Valentine's Day of 2003, just a few months later, and we were both there...but this time I wasn't working and was there with some friends and he was alone...and so I said..what the heck!! We spent most of the rest of the gala talking and dancing and went out to a midnightish breakfast at a hideous little 24-hour diner after the gala ended. We went on our first real date on Valentine's Day 2003....and we've been together almost every day since then (7 years this past Sunday!).....and now we're totally domesticated-----bought a house, bought 2 Disney Vacation Club contracts (I introduced Jason to Disney and got him hooked), adopted a cat (in addition to the Noble Macaw, a small breed of parrot, that I already had and our 70 gallon aquarium), and spend all our time working to save up money to pay for extravagant Disney Vacations! :thumbsup2
