Hi

Have got around to booking flights today from Birmingham to Barcelona on the Thursday pm before we cruise. Hotel next.

Great to be here!
So looking forward to the cruise!
Lyn

Lyn,

In college I spent a year studying at the University of Birmingham. We spent a lot of time at The Old Varsity Tavern, do you know if it's still around? I want to plan a trip back to England. It's been 20 years since I was there.

Looking forward to meeting you and chatting more about Birmingham!! :)

Krista

We ended up with two feet in our neck of the woods:eek:

We had about 14 to 15 inches, but we had some drift of snow up to 3 feet. Now there call for another storm for Tuesday to Wednesday that i heard may bring over another foot of snow.

I just got my vacation hair cut. I (the salon) just chopped off 12 inches of hair this morning. I feel 5 pounds lighter (wish it was that easy to lose weight - I would shave my head). I will be donating to Locks of Love on Monday. I went from hair to the middle of my back to a "bob" (between my chin and shoulders). I figure I will get a few inches of growth before September so will be able to pull it up if it is warm.

I am getting my vacation hair cut next weekend. It's shoulder length right now and I'll probably go up to my chin. I am also going from dark brown to blonde! We'll see how it goes.

Sorry I haven't gotten the updated Hotel Roll Call List up. My laptop has aquired several viruses, and I can't get rid of it all yet. It's really causing havoc. Sometimes I cannot even get into Internet Explorer nor Firefox. I can go on and on. Not looking pretty! I'll get it posted into Post #4 as soon as this post goes up. So please check it out to ensure I have it current and accurate!

Still no mouse and all the peanut butter is there. I'm crossing my fingers that it already made its way out of the car and didn't do any wire damage!

Kimberly: Guess, it's not only your car that is being infected by unwanted rodents. I sent you a PM for updates on the hotel roll call.

It's been a good day for planning. Thanks to Lyn (Lyn9856) we have flights booked to Barcelona. Plus, the four of us (Lyn, Bob, Candida and me) are now booked for Praktik Barcelona. :woohoo:

Things are getting done:)

Jon

Mrs. Woody and I are packed for our cruise on the Sapphire Princess. We only have carry-on bags!

We leave in a few hours. I'll catch up when we return.

Woody

Woody you are my hero! I have achieved Carry-ons only for one trip so far and it was only four days.

Have a great time.

Great fun to think we are both doing bits of this each side of the Atlantic. You reminded me of the need to get excited this am, so spurred me into action. Just took a little effort switching off from Malaysian Ringits and turning to Euros and then to US dollars, and even Canadian dollars!

Have ascertained there are 10 Starbucks in Barcelona. Yay! Dos lattes por favor. But no Timmys :sad2:

I believe it is...revamnped a few times, but still known as the OVT. I am pretty sure that the first time I ever was there it was the Bournbrook, but I would have to scratch my head and think on that..
My son spent 3 yrs at B/ham Uni...doing a BSc Medical Science.
Brum has had a major facelift, and is now a pretty smart city...keep meaning to spend a day with camera, but never find the time..will look forward to chatting :goodvibes:thumbsup2

I love my Mac. I went through 2 laptops in 3 years, that were so wracked with viruses it was completely maddening. At work it was the same. Even with full Norton, ClamWin, and some spyware stuff, it became totally clogged. I switched our office to Mac (except one PC because our gov't refuses to integrate Mac compatibility within our reporting software that we have to use monthly). Since then: everything running beautifully. At home my 6 month-old MacBook Pro is awesome, even without virus software (bad, I know). Just wanted to say: Mac rocks and the transition was dead easy.

I've been a Windows girl since ... well lets just say that it was before Windows 95 :rotfl2: and I'm an IT professional working mainly with Windows and I bought a Macbook Pro last October and I'm totally in love with it.

Used to have long hair - never again... can we see some before/after pics? ;)

I didn't hear about another foot of snow on Tuesday/Wednesday!

My parents and twin live in Allentown and they only got about 4 inches (trust me, my sister wanted more!) and I think we got about 8-12 inches here (I wanted more too) in Quakertown. I have to work Wednesday night so I hope it's not too bad!

We've spent the day inside just relaxing and I cleaned (oh the fun!). We're probably going to play a game later...it's been a nice day!

Tomorrow is the big Super Bowl Party and I can't wait!!!!! :)

Dreich (Old Scots origin)

A combination of dull, overcast, drizzly, cold, misty and miserable weather. At least 4 of the above adjectives must apply before the weather is truly dreich.

Somehow, Dreich sounds much better...

There not really taking about amount, but on the weather channel they were talking about the storm on Tuesday into Wednesday day and they said to except similar snow fall to today.

here is an article i found on accuweather web site

NextStormTrack.jpg

Even as many people are digging out from the "Blizzard of 2010" this weekend, and even still recovering from other snow and ice storms this winter, AccuWeather.com meteorologists are pondering the path and magnitude of the next storm.

That storm is already impacting California and much of the West this weekend with areas of heavy rain and heavy snow. The storm will reorganize over the High Plains Sunday night.

The current forecast track puts Kansas, the Texas Panhandle, Colorado and northern Oklahoma in line for substantial snow at the start of the new workweek.

Farther east, the storm will hit areas missed by the big storm Thursday into Saturday.

The new storm is forecast to spread a swath of plowable snow from this area to the southern Great Lakes, a large part of the mid-Atlantic and New England.

Strong winds will be a problem with this storm on the Plains and Midwest. The storm as a whole will be a colder system than the last. That means more snow and ice farther south in many cases.

Forecast challenges from this storm, in addition to the exact track, include the fact that there will be two centers of the storm. In between, there may be a zone with little or no precipitation.

The snowstorm will begin to intensify over the southern Plains Sunday night as frigid air plunges southward from Canada.

People from the Plains to the Midwest, Ohio Valley, Great Lakes, mid-Atlantic and New England should stay abreast of the situation.

Roadway and flight problems, school closures and cancellations, power outages and a new round of foiled plans will spread eastward with this new troublemaker.

Cities that are in or near the projected path of this winter storm include: Denver, Oklahoma City, Kansas City, St. Louis, Chicago, Minneapolis, Indianapolis, Nashville, Cincinnati, Detroit, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, Albany, Washington, Philadelphia, New York, Hartford and Boston.

Keep checking in at AccuWeather.com for updates on the new storm.

I could use some advice - How much do you generally tip on the cruise for room service and Palo's? For hotel room service, i generally tip 15-20% but since you only pay for drinks on the cruise, are you supposed to tip just as much as if you were paying for the full meal? What about palo - since it only costs 15, how much do most tip - 20?

Thanks...

Thanks for the information! I'll be perfectly honest with you, I know many people in Allentown that want more snow! It seems like it's been everywhere but in Allentown this year! Maybe this storm...we'll see! :)

I would so rather be on a cruise today (much like every day!)

Our house is completely topsy turvy with all the reno stuff going on. Today was demo day 1. Unfortunately the dump is closed tomorrow (Sunday) so we have a ton of junk to hang on to. Our house needed to be organized in a major way before this event, and even more so now! I am having to remind myself that just by plugging along it will eventually get much, much better, and within a month or so the house will be all put back and much, much better. I am coming to (intimate) terms with the amount of *stuff* we have, and the need to organize it, donate it, or sell it. My allergy to dust is in high gear, and the escapism of trip planning has sucked me into making a cup of tea and escaping to the Disboards. So, hi!

Along the above lines, anyone collect Playmobil? I think I am going to foray into eBay selling of some Playmobil that I have stored away. I'm not so crazy about the idea of the eBay hassle, but I don't know of another way to sell the stuff I have.

My kettle boiled- going to make my tea and read all the posts since last time I logged on.

That's good to know. I want to get a new computer and am seriously considering a Mac. I can't decide if I want an iMac or a MacBook. I can get an iMac for about half of the cost of the MacBook I want. If I get the iMac I may also get an iPad for portability. I need to do more research though. What size screen did you get on your MacBook Pro?

I got the 15" and seems really large to me, even though my last laptop was a HP Pavilion Multimedia POC (Piece of Crap). The stupid thing, besides being a virus-ridden paperweight, had a design flaw (just out of warranty I might add) that caused the CPU to overheat the hinge of the screen, meaning it couldn't shut and the frame around the screen peeled away. Nice. A real POC.

Anyhow, 17" would have been too big for me, the 15" seems like the right size, as the 13" seems too little (do they even make a MacBook Pro in 13" anymore?)

I just love the ease of use with the Mac and how even simple stuff like taking photos off my camera is super easy. It took awhile to learn how to use the touchpad, but once I read the manual and saw all that it could do, I love it now and have mostly abandoned the mouse. Hope that helps!

Terapin, if your main objective is to get the Playmobil out of the house, have you thought about using an ebay selling service? I saw a special on Breakfast Tv several months ago.

What is an eBay selling service?

Apple actually just began making a 13" Macbook Pro, it was just a 13" Macbook until last year.

What is an eBay selling service?

I haven't done it myself but they list, ship and process ebay auctions for a fee/commission. Do a google search for "Toronto ebay service" there are several, a couple look like they have closed down (old websites) and a couple look like they are active.
