Well, Marc is retiring at the end of March after MANY years of service with the County of L.A. and the Superior Court and we've been wondering how we're going to be spending time once that happens. Well, what better time to have an adventure, right?

We've been researching the little enclave in Mexico known as San Miguel de Allende. It's about a 4-hour drive north of Mexico City and at an elevation of about 6,000 ft. Large U.S. and Canadian ex-pat community and a much more relaxed atmosphere than the L.A. area, which I truly love but Marc could turn and not miss it fairly quickly. Life is about compromises, yes? Works for me.... Not quite sure how all our Disney fixes will come in to play, especially the club, but we're gonna make it work!

We've got our eyes set on a house designed in what is described as "Gaudi-style" architecture. Won't really know until we can see it in person and that'll probably happen at some point in March. We'll make our way there, back, there again, back to L.A., and then in May we'll hopefully be ensconced in our new abode!

We already have our tickets from LAX - BCN on British Air so we now need to add on a leg from one of three Mexican airports to LAX.....and then find a way home from Orlando!

Life, it's a wonderful thing!!!!!

Small world. Where do you live in LA? We live in WLA just north of UCLA and I am retiring from LA County (Mental Health) at the end of May. My husband, Armando, would love to retire in Mexico, but he wants to live near the coast. Hope to meet you in BCN, if not then on the ship.

My dad passed away a year ago today, so that's weighing me down. Thus far, I'm doing better today than I did yesterday. I couldn't stop crying yesterday. I thought that checking in with my DIS peeps would help, too. :grouphug:

:hug::hug::hug::hug::hug::hug::hug::hug:

Captain EO is not yet playing at DL. I have not heard an opening date, the date I originally heard has already passed. So who knows, hopefully it will open soon.

I understand DL will not bring it back. Im trying to remember where I read it.

That's Ok Becky if we have lime green luggage, at least we think alike!

Ann

Oh, now why start an adventure by moving to a place where you know people??!!!!! We know absolutely no one there. We're both big fans of "International Living," which is an online and print magazine that gives one ideas of where to live out those golden years for pennies on the dollar. San Miguel was featured a few years back and Marc just took to the sound of it. From there it went to picking up a few books, internet searches, 40 years of a career from which it was time to leave, and voila!

We'll probably bore y'all to tears as we regale you with our stories of our new "home."

Ole!:cool1:

We will love to hear your stories.
Well done!

Wish we were there too!

Is Captain EO being played at DL yet?

We did not check to see if it was back. Saw it when it was here years ago, did not like it then, would not go see it again.

How many Platinum members do we have out there? Can you let the rest of know what kind of perks you have enjoyed? Do you like being a castaway club member? Did you get to meet the captain and/or ship officers? Thanks for sharing...

:thumbsup2

We are platinum now, but on our last cruise they had not yet started this new system. From what I have read though I am going to like the perks! Our Palo dinner will be paid, we get to board first (not that that really matters!), more OBC when we rebook onboard, and of course the early booking opportunity.

That's the one, and we are at the Praktik Rambla too!!! Shame we will have so much luggage we wouldn't fit in one taxi!!!!!:lmao:

Hmm, well maybe there will be something big enough to fix us all in, a van perhaps? Are you paying the extra $ to book your seats on the plane early?

let it snow let in snow let it snow.

Already have 7" and it supposed to snow for another 12 hours

Hmm, well maybe there will be something big enough to fix us all in, a van perhaps? Are you paying the extra $ to book your seats on the plane early?

No, I think that is so annoying to have to do that for a non cheap airline!!! I think it is only a short flight, so I can be apart from John for that longif we have to!! There is plenty of time for him to annoy me on the cruise!!!:lmao:

Well, we can look for a van in the first instance can't we?

I hate the grey and miserable weather too. It must be much worse for you if you have actually lived in Florida!!!
Aye, its drich the day again here in scotland.
For all those facing a cold, perhaps snowy day and weekend, thought I'd point out what the weather in Barcelona is right now. Something to look forward to for September I hope!

Sorry I haven't gotten the updated Hotel Roll Call List up. My laptop has aquired several viruses, and I can't get rid of it all yet. It's really causing havoc. Sometimes I cannot even get into Internet Explorer nor Firefox. I can go on and on. Not looking pretty! I'll get it posted into Post #4 as soon as this post goes up. So please check it out to ensure I have it current and accurate!

My dad passed away a year ago today, so that's weighing me down. Thus far, I'm doing better today than I did yesterday. I couldn't stop crying yesterday. I thought that checking in with my DIS peeps would help, too. :grouphug:

Still no mouse and all the peanut butter is there. I'm crossing my fingers that it already made its way out of the car and didn't do any wire damage!

I'm starting to feel very queezy. I think I'll be laying down for a lap in a few. All of us in the winter wrath in the States, please cuddle up and home, keep warm, and stay safe over the next couple of days.

Oops! I had you on the hotel list with an arrival of Friday evening! I'll get that fixed.

Thanks for passing that along!
I dont know how I would cope if I lost a parent, my dad does so much for me, I hope you feel better and can think of all the good things he done over the weekend rather than missing him too much:grouphug:
So, in the excitment to get home and back to work after our trip west for my step dad's funeral and Candida's test of the ND health system I forgot to continue the story.

We got home Tuesday afternoon. The fur covered children were happy to see us. So, happy that after I fed Rylea (dog) she decided to toss up her food. When I gave Rylea her medicine I thought the bottle seemed a little light. Then my DMiL told me that Rylea was sick in the morning. Now being the trained investigator I am I called the DMiL to find out how much medicine she had been giving Rylea. Her response "The full syringe". Well, the full syringe is actually about 5 times her normal dose. So, here "iron stomach" Rylea has been overdose on Metacam for 10 days.:scared:

Good news is that after spending the day at the vets on IV and more meds to off set the effects of the overdose she will be fine. She even has her own account at our regular pharmacy now. :lmao:

So, if it is true that bad things come in three, then we are done. Bring on the good.:woohoo:

Thats really bad, DMil or not I think I may have had to throttle her, bet you she was running around like a spring lamb though.
When I discharge dogs that have been in my care with metacam I put a sticker on the syringe with "max amount 1 x a day" and a big arrow, it is sooooo easy and frequently done!! (id still throttle her though:lmao:)

Everybody have a great weekend, we are very excited about the 6 nations rugby starting today, got the beers and snacks in, big telly will be on:cool1:

Ive been for a run in the rain(patting myself on the back) now I am away to a spinning class, lens doing the housework:thumbsup2) then Im walking the beagles again, then it will be rugby, snacks and drinks all guilt free.
Bring on 4pm:rainbow:

Good Luck Ireland and Wales:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Oops I mean England:rolleyes1

Sending :hug::hug: Kimberley ... it is always difficult when those dates arrive. I have just passed the 2nd anniversary of Dad's passing and the 1st anniversary of my sister's passing last week so I can relate to those feelings. It is really tough at time like this, as it all comes flooding back and you just feel so sad when thinking about missed loved ones.

Could someone please explain the lanyard $$ gang. For the FE exchange, do we need to make FE'S for everyone or just the gifts? We would like to be in the Secret Mickey exchange, but I don't think I have enough posts to PM our information to the leader. Thank you.

Just keep posting and then you can send me the PM .... welcome aboard :goodvibes

OMG my car is disappearing and it's still snowing!!! Just hope I can get out of my door when it starts winding down! Guess I know what I'm doing later...shovel....shovel... oh to be on the Magic crossing the Altantic :cloud9:

I know how hard it is the first year and every year! Just try to stay positive. Remember the good times!

Captain EO is not yet playing at DL. I have not heard an opening date, the date I originally heard has already passed. So who knows, hopefully it will open soon.

My sister is going in March and hoping it will be playing then! Gutted Im mising out on it. Maybe theyll bring it in to WDW for September!

Not platinum sorry but am a gold member. I think we still get the office meet dont we? Its silver members that no longer do.

I think basically each level - Silver (0-5 cruises) Gold (6-10 cruises) and Platinum (11+ cruises) gets a different gift based on their level. Gold & Platinum members get the Castaway Clubhouse which is a meeting with the officers. Used to be open to all Castaway members but now only those in those levels. The Platinum get an extra gift (I think its a cheese plate, prawn cocktail or something else in your room) a night at Palo and then an experience trip free (which is like a tour of the theatre or a tour on Castaway)

Could someone please explain the lanyard $$ gang. For the FE exchange, do we need to make FE'S for everyone or just the gifts? We would like to be in the Secret Mickey exchange, but I don't think I have enough posts to PM our information to the leader. Thank you.

I think the lanyard $$ gang are the lovely people who offered to contribute to the lanyards so they can be made for us.

For the FEs its just a gift for each person. I think we are being in groups of 25 from what I remember.

You should be near the no. to pm I think its 10

Throttle was the starting point that came to mind:rolleyes1 If Rylea was actually affected by it things may have been different. But this dog doesn't let anything stop her. She'll chew/eat pop cans, razor blades, dry wall screws, metal framing studs, lead weights, raw chicken breasts off the counter, plastic bottles, steak knives, and so on. She has liking for metal. :sad2: Chewed her way through a wooden baby gate and bent the bars on a metal kennel to escape. Won't eat clothes, shoes, or most other things. She has had parvo and blown out her knee then reinjured the knee. But through it all she is like the "little engine that could" and won't let anything stop her from playing or getting to were she wants to go.

In it all she is a good dog and very friendly.

Small world. Where do you live in LA? We live in WLA just north of UCLA and I am retiring from LA County (Mental Health) at the end of May. My husband, Armando, would love to retire in Mexico, but he wants to live near the coast. Hope to meet you in BCN, if not then on the ship.

We're up in the west SFV, Reseda.

I'm truly a coast-kinda guy so heading up to the hills will definitely be a new and exciting adventure.
