Wow you have been a chatty bunch this weekend!

Paula, I think you and I are on the same time schedule. I love being up late and checking the DISBoards . . .you're probably seeing the sunrise :)

I think your late evening is my late afternoon/early evening. We are 19 hours ahead of DL and 16 hours ahead of WDW (12 hours ahead of the UK - in case anyone cares).

Sorry, couldn't resist. I butcher words all the time. Spell checker is wonderful. ;)

And I was just thinking how much the speller checker on the DIS annoys me ;) as it wants to correct my non-US spelling :) And the other thing that strikes me is weird is it accepts words that I consider to be inappropriate for a public/child friend forum, it blocks words I consider harmless it *'s out - I've tested this extensively for research purposes :rotfl2: Just shows we speak the same language but there are a lot of cultural and language differences.

It was Costa Maya. We were supposed to be the very first cruise ship back to that port after the destruction suffered from a hurricane about two years before. They had rebuilt but since Disney had not had the opportunity to visit and set up excursions in time, they canceled that port for our cruise (plus the ones scheduled in October and november) and substituted grand cayman. Still had a great time!!

That was it! Duh Amy! LOL

What a bunch of chatter boxes!!!!:lmao:

WELCOME to all our newbies!!!

OBC... havent gotten ours. The only thing we received is the $25 for booking online. And that has been the only OBC we have ever received!:headache:

The pics are beautiful.
And everyone have a a Magical week!

Ann:flower3:

I've been MIA for about one week now. I went to Monterey to attend a conference for work. The weather was gorgeous. I took a 3-4 mile walk each morning. And have been busy since getting back into town. Wow...I've missed a lot!!!

ONLY 30 WEEKS TO GO !!!!!

:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:woohoo:

Woo-Hoo! :banana::banana::banana::banana:

Erm, well you did ask...........;)

We're going on the Magic today!!!! 7 nights doing nothing at sea.:banana::banana:

Have a great trip!!!!

Just saw this on the news... so sad. Thought I would pass it on.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/8526288.stm

I saw this! So sad! I hope there is no more flooding or casualties.

DCL decided to give OBC of $100 per person for the Med and Baltic cruises that were booked prior to November 2009. They did this just before they lowered the prices because of poor bookings so that when the new prices came out people wouldn't cancel and rebook. The computer was told to identify those cruisers booked prior to Nov 2009 with departures from Dover or Barcelona. They had not paid attention to the fact that the WBTA also departs from Barcelona. Several letters went out to some of the WBTA bookings until someone noticed, then they they stopped. Those people on the WBTA who were lucky enough to get the letter will get the OBC, those who didn't receive a letter - too bad!

:cutie:

Hmmm...I booked the first day and then rebooked on the Wonder but haven't received a letter. :confused3

CONGRATS to all of you who have received a letter from DCL! :thumbsup2 I will be gracious and accept any and all drinks from those who feel bad for me in light of the fact that I do not have a huge on-board credit. :lmao::lmao::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl::rotfl:

:welcome:WELCOME TO ALL OUR RECENTS ADDITIONS!! :welcome:

Ya'll are a talkative group today! I'm so excited we're at 30 weeks!! Time is flying. DH and I were talking today about all our travel plans this summer AND then the big one in September. We're all so excited.

I think we're going to end up staying at an apartment. The hotels just don't make sense with two teenage boys. I don't think DH would sleep a wink if they were in a separate hotel room . . .LOL.

I have a question . . what about plugs? Do we need special adapters to use the electricity for our hairdryers and laptops in Barcelona? Is the wireless there the same as in the states?

I'm thinking about buying a netbook for all our travels. Would be much lighter than the laptop, but I want to make sure I can charge it AND use the wireless component for access. Don't think my clients will survive me leaving them for three weeks again . . . .LOL

Have a relaxing and wonderful Sunday, ya'll!!

Here's a thought. Since it seems like many of us who booked in 2009 got the letter, but those who booked early in 2008 did not, I wonder if it has anything to do with tier 1 vs tier 2 or higher pricing. Thus, if the people who booked early paid less than DCL was lowering the prices to, then they didn't really need to give an additional OBC to them to keep them from rebooking, since their prices would still be lower. But those of us who booked in 2009, before prices went down, might be inclined to rebook at the lower rates if not for the OBC (though it's been more lack of availability that has kept us put.)

We book our on the first day they were available in 2008 and someone else did to on our cruise and they got the credit. Who know how the do it. It is like the upgrade you get on the cruises. we have been on 4 cruise and no upgrades and other people every cruise gets an upgrade. All it is, is a little more pixie dust

And this whole OBC thing is out of control! Why won't they just say - This is what you need to qualify, and if you tick all the boxes you get it, if you don't , you don't! I wonder if it is whoever paid in full by a cut off date? We got it, and we paid in full on Oct 20 2009? So frustrating!:headache:

Nope, we got the letter and are not yet paid in full.

Nope we booked first day.

Not alphabetical I think because we are right in the middle of the alphabet. Not by cabin I think because we are GTY. :confused3:confused3

Maybe like DCL stateroom upgrades.....no rhyme or reason to it.

Hmmmmm...

I booked our cruise in Jan 2009, had a cat 6 and somehow
upgraded to a cat4 a few weeks later.:confused3
Our last name is in the begining" F" .... so I agree No rhyme or reason.
I'll call DCL tomorrow for giggles.:rotfl:

I have noticed that most of the OBC has gone to those that live Outside of the U.S. Hmmm ???

We are in US. It seems the early letters came to US the ones that are being received now seem more outside.

Behind as always, I see everyone has posted stories! :surfweb:

Me (53) and my DH (Bob or Rob depending on the mood, 52) and I will have been married 17 years next month. Second marriage for both us. I have a DS, Carl...who is a Police Officer, and 30 this year. Bob has a DD and a DS, and they have 3 children each.

I am a Matron for Oncology Services, and Bob is a HGV driver by day, and a part time DJ some nights.

What a wonderful worthwhile job you do Lyn

Oh my God! Can't believe its getting so close

Oh for Gos and HallsofVA I just rebooked the Renaissance at the Airport in Barcelona as the "non-paid in advance" rate for room only had gone from 125 euros to 115 euros. Thought it worth rebooking and cancelling the other one as 10 euros is the transfer to the port for one of us

as they say .... every little helps :woohoo::woohoo:

Erm, well you did ask...........;)

We're going on the Magic today!!!! 7 nights doing nothing at sea.:banana::banana:

I guess we will be too far away to see the Endeavour. They have also moved the shuttle launch we could have seen mid March until april and we will be home then!!!!!

Oh you lucky thing .... to be on the Magic right now would be amazing. Hope you have a fantastic time :cloud9:

I just got off the phone with DCL and we did not get the additional OBC. I spoke to a supervisor abot the inequity of some getting and others not and was told they are working on the glitch and the result will probably be those that received it in error will not receive it.(Just what he thought was being done) We are cruising regardless, but inequities need to be corrected.

Donna

I hope we didn't receive it in error .... mind you, if you have it in writing I hardly think they can take it away from you again.
That is very sad. Is the EB TA going there? If so, I wonder if they will need to change the port? I know when on the Double Dip in Sept/Oct of 2008, we we were changed from one port in Mexico to Grand Cayman because of a hurricane. I can't remember the Mexican port right now...darn it! It'll come to me eventually.

Costa Maya Amy ... we cruised October 08 and we re-routed to Grand Cayman .... in the end we didn't even make it to there as it was too rough .... and we ended up in Key West instead. I am sorry we missed Costa Maya as I was looking forward to the ruins.

I have a question . . what about plugs? Do we need special adapters to use the electricity for our hairdryers and laptops in Barcelona? Is the wireless there the same as in the states?

Have a relaxing and wonderful Sunday, ya'll!!

You will need European plug adapters if you want to use electrical equipment in the hotel in Barcelona .... they are 2 round pins. It is a pain for us as we have to take European adapters for the hotel and US adapters for the ship.
I don't know why in this advanced technological age we can't have the same type of plug worldwide :confused3

We booked November 2008 and we got the OBC .... doesn't sound like there is any definite criteria for getting it :confused3

Con: Your Dubai photos are stunning ... Dubai looks very interesting. Not somewhere I have ever thought about going to but interesting all the same. Not to sure about the tallest building though ... OMG :scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1: That looks very scary ... I would hate to go to the top :scared1:

I just realised I had never posted our "story" ....

Tony and I met back in 1998 when we were both working in the same hospital and were both dragged reluctantly to a social evening by friends. We both had children from a previous relationship and had been single for a few years after our previous relationships failed. We ended up chatting that evening and realised we had lots in common and arranged to meet for a coffee the next day, when he asked me out for a meal .... and the rest is history. We were engaged after 3 months, but didn't get married until 2002 as I started nurse training.

Since then I trained as a midwife, which is what I do now. Tony works in patient transfer in the same hospital and it is true that I work at the beginning of life (babies) and he works at the other end as he spends a lot of time in the mortuary.

Our children are now 20, 19, 19 and 16, and they have always got on so well which has been a blessing :hug: DS Stephen (20) is in University studying Sports Science, DD Taryn (19) is in University studying Illustration, DD Louise (19) starts nurse training in March and DS Danny is still in High School, and hoping to go to college next year to study Film and Media Production. None of them are cruising with us in September, which will be very strange, but hopefully a wonderful experience as a "second honeymoon" for DH and I.

I first fell in love with Disney when I visited Disneyland Paris in 1996, and then our first trip to Florida in 1999 with the kids was an amazing experience.
We have had many trips since then, mainly to Disneyland Paris as it is so easy for us to get there, and no horrible long-haul flights. Our first Disney Cruise was in 2008, and we were hooked. In fact we had booked the TA withing a week of getting back from our 2008 cruise.

We live in a small seaside town in Wales, in a 1930s house which we are slowly renovating (would be a lot quicker if we didn't keep booking holidays), and we love to travel and we also enjoy a visit to the cinema and theatre, country walks and meals out. We are so looking forward to this next cruise ... I am totally obsessed about it ..... :woohoo::woohoo:

I think DCL are more likely to give the OBC to everyone then remove it from some! The bad PR would not be a good thing for them!

EBTA is going down to go to Madiera. It will be interesting to see what DCL do. Dan and me were on about the chances of a port change for us too. This is the worse flooding in like 30 years or something according to the news here and I'm assuming its not going to be a quick clean up process. I just feel so sorry for the people caught up in it! It looked terrifying!

Yay!!! Into the 20's soon! It still feels so far away.....Hurry up world, turn faster!

I'm actually turning green I'm so jealous! Have a wonderful time!

The photo's of Dubai look amazing, Added to our bucket list!

Also, I know I read we will have our FE groups given to us by a certain date, I just can't remeber when, and to go back through our threads would take days, OK probably weeks! Does anyone remember?

Its not paid in full date its booking date but I can't rmemeber the date that you had to book by

Also not sure when we find out our FE groups.

I hope they have the help to clean up and rebuild.:grouphug: I know our cruise is a long way off, but I wonder if we will skip this port or be re-routed as well.

Pj

Exactly. Guess it depends how easy it is to clean up the island. I think our cruise we are more likely to get to the port than the EBTA

Def need adapter plugs (2 round pins I believe) and to note that your adapter needs to convert the power up as well as I think we have a higher voltage dont we? I remember using an american hairdryer and it blowing up because it was a different voltage.

We booked in October 08 I think it was. I agree wouldn't want to go up that tallest building it looks scarey!

So who did he say got it in error? Is there a booking date cut off?

He said the OBC should not have gone to anyone on the transatlantic cruises. They were only supposed to go to Med and Baltic cruises. I did not argue with him, I just said if it was an error they should honor it, but honor it for everyone.

Donna

Yeah someone who got it in December was told a similar thing - that it was an error. The letter was meant to be sent to Med and Baltic cruisers who booked before a certain date (but not sure on the date). Basically the letter was sent to cruisers leaving Dover or Barcelona and accidentally no one removed the WBTA cruise from the mailing list. They were told though that they would honour anyone who go the letter. I agree they should honour it for all those that were in the cut off period.

It's a great place to go on holiday very relaxing, and american foodcourts (subway, applebees, mac and starbuck).

And for the people how like Atlantis it's also on Dubai Palm.

We where never at Atlantis in Nassau, but when we go on a cruise whit one off the new ships we will go to Atlantis.

About the OBC i have ask my TA about it in December and they told me that i was one off the lucky winners( Kind off Bingo?)

Having once been a teenage boy, something tells me they wouldn't get any sleep either:rotfl: or would that be :scared1:
Hmmmmm...
I have noticed that most of the OBC has gone to those that live Outside of the U.S. Hmmm ???

Nothing here yet. Not holding my breath for one now. Congrats to those that got them.

We are in US. It seems the early letters came to US the ones that are being received now seem more outside.

Maybe since we live within sight of the boarder they decided we were close enough to be in the US this round. :sad2:

Not to sure about the tallest building though ... OMG :scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1: That looks very scary ... I would hate to go to the top :scared1:

Getting to the top or being at the top wouldn't be that bad. It would just be the ride back down if you accidently tripped on one of the stairs. :headache::headache::headache:

I snuck into Atlantis when staying at the Holiday Inn in Nassau. It is absolutely lovely! Their spa is so so fab!

Good morning. I'm enjoying a latte and the Disboards this morning before I get my butt in gear and get on with our day. Here in Toronto we are enjoying a bright sunny morning, no snow, clear skies and cold weather (-6c). We have had hardly any snow at all this winter. My snow removal contract guy has made out like a bandit.

I wanted to chip in that we got the OBC of $100pp, as did my mom. We booked in May. However, on our recent honeymoon cruise in January we rebooked onboard as we still came out ahead, even with forfeiting our OBC (I'm pretty sure it's lost and gone forever, yes? When we changed ressies I am sure that it is lost. Is it worth asking?!?) I still have our letters that were sent. I believe we got them here in Canada in early January, or late December.

I'm sorry to hear of the flooding in Madeira. I'm sure it's even harder for those residents to get help not being on the mainland.

Well, we've been back from Cabo for a few days and time to say hi to everyone again! :wave2:

While down there we made arrangements for our new housing in San Miguel. We really wanted one particular place so even though Marc doesn't retire until the end of March we were able to sign beginning March 1 at a reduced rate for that month and then full bore April and onward. The house is described as Gaudi-esque so we'll compare it to the Gaudi achitecture in Barcelona when we're there in September. It definitely isn't what one might think you'd see in central Mexico, that's for sure! We're looking around the house here in CA and wondering how much "stuff" we'll be taking with us. We see a few yard sales coming up!

On to Disneyland later this morning! Housecleaning can wait for another day!!!!
