We had a wonderful day today. Dennis played in a country music band 40 years ago (summer 1969). Today for the first time all the band members were here in town and we got together (along with families and several other friends from that era) at our house. Big jam session, lots of hugs and good food. :grouphug: An amazing day for my Dennis. He has dreamed of this day for about the last 30 years. We finally moved home to Montana, but the one missing band member lives in Idaho and just now made it back to visit. I am totally on a high just watching Dennis enjoy himself so much!! :lovestruc

Thats so cool, Im glad you both had such an amazing day!

One more post . . .and I promise I'll go to bed . . .

Would love to hear what others are doing BEFORE the cruise . . .

We're considering flying into Madrid and traveling up to Barcelona on the trains. I"m concerned about too much luggage, but my experience on European trains was 20 years ago and I only had ONE bag then . . .LOL.

Do you have some great touring ideas, too?

Can't wait! 2010 is only days away!

Cant help with the trains, and luggage is a worry, but I am sure it would be fine.
We are not planning anything exactly but we have rented a lovely apartment that overlooks the marina. We are arrive on the wed and will no doubt do lots and lots of walking.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas! I had a very nice day - we got to spend time with both of our families and it was a lovely first Christmas together as a married couple!

Now that 2010 is nearly here, I'm really getting excited for the cruise! :)

me too ..... we can start all of the planning for real now !!!!!

We are flying in on the 16th late in the evening to give us one full day touring Barcelona before joining the ship. Not sure about trains either really as we don't really use them in Europe. I expect you might have more than one bag on this occasion. ;) . So far as touring we plan to visit Sagrada Famiglia (sp), the Gaudi Park Guell and just wander the Ramblas and the Gothic Quarter. There is a hop on / hop off tour bus you can use which takes you around the main sights but I think we will do it on foot .... soak up the atmosphere.

Are we running out of ideas for the Monday questions:confused3

How about an easy one. When you aren't at work to pay for Disney related activities, surfing the internet for Disney related sites, thinking about Disney, looking at your food and comparing it to DCL food, what do you do? In, short what do people do for non disney related hobbies?

For me it would be Scuba diving. Bring on the ice, time for some cold water dives.

just reaalised I haven't answered this question from last week:

non-disney related hobbies ...... a difficult one really. I do like dancing to keep fit .... tap dancing, salsa aerobics and jazz dance (not that you would know it from my physique at the moment), I enjoy crafting - making cards mainly although I would love to do scrapbooking if time permitted.

I have a question for the Monday question ......

As it is almost 2010 ..... do you have any New Year Resolutions and what are they?

Mine is to lose weight .... at least 14lbs, and to get fitter and adopt a more healthy lifestyle in general. Will need a lot of will-power and a lot of :wizard:

Hi everyone. I hope you all have had a wonderful Christmas.

I've been MIA for a couple of weeks as I have been in hospital for 9 days with acute pancreatitis - just home last Tuesday evening. It was the most painful thing I have ever had.:scared1: Just a bit washed out now and not eating much, so that will all build up I know over the next few weeks.

Have to begin thinking about the vacations again - fortunately this is a little further away, but we have a 5 week trip to Orlando booked from Feb 8th. Not much to do for that one though.

So sorry to those affected Globespan. I hope all the money comes back to you.

Welcome back, wishing you a speedy recovery:wizard:

That's a nice way to spend sometime over the holiday's.

We are arriving in the UK a week before the cruise to spend some time with good friends, who will be on the cruise with us. Then arriving in Barcelona most likely on the Thursday before the cruise. We haven't made specific plans yet for accomodations or activities in town.

I have never really made any New Year Resolutions in the past. So, I resolve to start making New Year Resolutions. Does that work? :lmao:

I'm with you on this one! Lose weight!!! I started working on this last fall and was really doing good until December when I basically stopped going to the gym. So, I guess my other resolution will be to hit the gym at least 4 times/week!!!

:rotfl2: I am with you on this one. I will start making New Yeal Resolutions as well!! :thumbsup2:rotfl:

For any of my northeastern friends still looking for flight, Air Berlin has flights to Barcelona from JFK on Tuesday 9/14 for $422. It connects through Dusseldorf with a ten hour layover, but still not a bad price!

Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and has a Safe and Healthy New Year. I think I have narrowed my hotel choices down to the following:

  • Hesperia Del Port
  • Hesperia Metropol
  • Hotel HCC Taber
  • Hotel Praktik Rambla
  • Hotel HCC Open
  • Best Western Premier Hotel Dante
  • Hesperia Ramblas
  • H10 Universitat

I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on any of these. I will be on the Med Cruise prior to the Transatlantic, so will be staying 9/5/10-9/8/10 (depending on the the flight I get). TIA

We've been to Dusseldorf, which is close to Cologne. A long layover might allow time to visit the Cologne Cathedral, which is just breathtaking.

We we had about 2 inches this evening and a 40 mins drive home took nearly 3 hrs. Madness.

We finally got snow. We got about 3 inches. What normally takes a 35 min drive, took 32 minutes today. :lmao:

Woody, snow equals less people on the road in Ontario, faster drive, lol!

Okay, got it.

"Toto, I've a feeling we're not in L.A. anymore."

Yep...call me predictable but its mine too. I have eaten far too much this Christams.

All the snows gone now and we had torrential rain today. The temperature is supposed to drop over the new few days and the weatherman is predicting freezing weather for New Year.

Would love to hear your source for finding an apartment. Do tell . . . I've heard that is a great way to see Rome, but didn't even think about doing it in Barcelona. I would like to hit Spain about 5 days before leaving on the ship (but I'm still negotiating with DH . . .LOL). Having a base with a little more space would be wonderful.:)
