Panic over I think :cloud9: I just had a look around the main cruise board and it seems that it is some of the 2011 Med cruises that have been suspended. The 2010 cruises are unaffected.

I received this at work today and my heart just about stopped:

Lets hope they pull though.

Corinna

Oh God! I have my fingers crossed for everyone!

Re globespan
This was in paper before, they have sever fingers in the pie, they also have big contracts with government taking troups to afganistan/iraq etc.
I wont panic yet, and I def wont be telling my mum.the flights/transatlantic flights and holidaays seems to be all dif bussines. I did not want to panic anybody by posting this. I will see if I can find the article I read that was not as scary as Corinas:hippie:

Nothing on thee web site, mmm

Good plan!

I do. Dear hubby did the calculations for me to cut the banana bread down to 3 loaves. It was quite a deal as he had to convert pounds of flour, sugar, etc to cups for me. I say often that I married him so I do not have to do math. :worship::love::rotfl:

Shall I post them?

I would love the recipe for the banana bread!! :lovestruc

Thanks!

Krista

Jackie, I'm glad you still have your sights on this cruise.

Woody

Well, I learned from you to never give up on a cruise! The 'if you book it you MAY go' theory.

I won't 'officially' cancel this till I hear back on the offer I made to transfer over my highly coveted 'secret' Navigator verandah.

.

Jackie... you cant leave! :sad2:
You and I were the only ones from AZ !!!
But IF you do.... have a great time on the next cruise:yay:

BTW..... the National Christmas Tree came thru Lake Havasu today. The 85' pine will be placed at the Capital Building in DC !!

The first tree ever from AZ.:cheer2:

Definitely definitely ..... and before I start my pre-cruise diet in January!

I am definitely in a state of panic now - are we covered if they go bust - thats what I want to know? Should I be taking our travel insurance already.

Here is an article from the Independent re. the Globespan situation.

I am not that clued up on the world of finance and business but I keep thinking about the likes of Travel City Direct and XL and can't help but feel anxious. Does anyone know if we are likely to get out money back if Globespan go bust. I am even thinking about cancelling and waiting a bit longer to book flights just in case.

Globespan are denying they are in trouble saying they have secured new finance etc. If you paid with a credit card your money should be safe. We`ve had money back when buisnesses have gone bust.
I`m not too worried - in this financial climate who is safe?
I would only cancel if I got all my money back

Try not to worry just yet about Globespan. I know that is hard with all the news, but it does look like they have secured finance.

Is anyone going to buy return flights to Barcelona(BA) and not using the return ticket? I know someone did this last time. It is so much cheaper. BA gives the option of allowing to pay for more bags.

You will be protected but not through ATOL as its just a flight. I think its worth holding on to your flight just incase, especially if you booked with a credit card as this will cover you.

Here's some info I've found - hope they let me post the details

http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=2080393&highlight=globespan

http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/shopping/section75-protect-your-purchases

http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/insurance/cheap-travel-insurance

http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/protect/company-administration-help

Basically the first one has some speculation that they will last out.

2nd one states that anything purchased over £100 on a credit card is covered by the credit card under Section 75 Protection so will be covered if you purchased on a credit card.

3rd one states most travel insurance will not cover airlines going bust.

And 4th one is about reclaiming money if they go into administration. Also states if you paid via Visa Debit there is a route you cna try to reclaim money through them but you must claim within 120 days of the company going into administration - which Globespan have not!

Hope you find this helpful Sarah (and others). Only full holiday packages are ATOL protected unfortunately so flights aren't covered. There may be a lot more on Money Saving Expert Forum about this as they are a great source of info in the UK - Martin Lewis is my God!

Marilyn, when I got mine from Heathrow to Barcelona it was actually cheaper for a one way than a return. I paid £153 for 2 of us one way compared to the quoted price of £230 for 2 of us return

DONT WORRY

Any airline can go bust at any time, :confused3
Whats the point of worrying.
Why would you cancel?
If Corina hadnt posted I bet you wouldnt have even known. Please try not to worry it wont do no good.

I agree that there is no point getting worried. They either pull through or they don't. In most cases you should be covered one way or the other. I know that airlines have reprotection agreements which mean that if one airline goes bust, the others tend to pick up the pieces.

We get industry news once a week and a lot of it is extremely bleak at the moment. So there is no telling at the moment who will survive and who will fold as far as airlines are concerned.

Corinna

I don't think I would be too worried right now since it is still 300 days or so away and if you paid with your cc. But on the other hand IF you could get a full refund and it makes YOU feel better then do that. There is nothing worse than having that nagging feeling and to keep second guessing yourself.

I happened to luck out and found a great oneway fare (well it's still nothing to get too excited about) and booked. I was looking at RT tickets because they were more than half the cost of one way and I would have booked a RT and not used the ohter half in a minute and not thought a thing about it.

Did you pay on a credit card? If you did then I believe you are covered
Yes I did pay with credit card so at least thats a relief should anything happen.

You're right - I shouldn't worry - but I always am expecting things to go
pear-shaped and this price was too good to be true and ever since I booked it I have been thinking that something is bound to go wrong. I will stick it out - at least we haven't paid out the full amount at the moment.

Well that would be better. I will have to look around the time I book the Atlantic fares - next week!!!!!

From the Globespan Terms and Conditions:

"If we have to cancel a flight
23.1 If we have to cancel a flight for any reason, and no suitable Globespan alternative flight is
available, then we will upon application refund you all monies paid in respect of the
cancelled flight. Requests for refunds should in the first instance be made by through our Call Centre:"

I don't know if "any reason" includes going bust, but at least it seems like they are willing to give a refund if they cancel your flight - so that's something !
