i dont know if i will be making this 24 night cruise i have the 10 night book before this. im still defintely going on the 10 night. i did the ta back in 07 so this time the med is the priority. its because i get 4 weeks of vacation a year and we are allowed to carry over 1 week so that will be 5 weeks i will have next year this cruise will take 4 weeks, than they make us take one week when they want us to. so in 2011 i will have 4 weeks i would have no vacation to carry over in 2011. in 2011 i have the first repo booked and the first alaska cruise thats going to take a little over 2 and a half weeks vacation. 1 week when we have to take it only leaves me with a couple days left in 2011. i would like to get back to wdw havent been there since 06 when i got started in cruising. plus i might try the dream. yes i still have the one week when i have to take the vacation but they might not tell us until a couple weeks in advance and than my wife might not be able to get off in that short of notice plus the prices will be a whole lot higher plane tickets etc.
Oh, that sucks, never mind we will meet sometime.
Well I picked up an AZ Lottery ticket (jackpot about 2.1 million) and a PowerBall (20 million) for tonight's drawings, just in case 'fate' wanted me on this cruise! ;)

.

good luck!

Corina, I agree re the ports and Im glad I will get to meet you.

OK has anyone been keeping an eye on the Med 2011 cruise threads on here? Seems that Disney has canceled July 30th onward Med cruises for 2011 and people are having to more. There's no news as to what is happening between this date and September when the TA is available to book. Will be interesting to see if they more the TA as I think alot of people would find a July TA better dates with school holidays etc.

Interesting.....wonder whats going on.

That would be a nightmare for us and would mean that we would cancel. Neither of us could do July or August. DH does a lot of holiday cover and I would have difficulty getting time off during the school holidays as well.

Hi everyone. My group has planned since January 09 to go on the westbound transatlantic...i've mostly been a lurker on this thread; although I did post once way back when. It's hard to keep up with all the activity. Our group will be me (Linda) and my husband along with my brother and sister-in-law. First cruise on DCL was September 07 for my brother's 50th bday. Went again in Jan 09 for my SIL 50th...the transatlantic is for hubby's 50th bday. I've tried looking three these boards but they get a little difficult to maneuver due to length. Our two staterooms are booked thru DVD; several months ago we called to get information about the DCL pre-cruise hotel packages--at that time we were told it was too early to book (?)...we called the other day--all pre-cruise hotel packages are booked and we are now on a wait list for package. I understand from reading posts, that the DCL packages are more expensive than booking hotel on your own. I was wondering if someone could give me an idea as to what the hotel package rate is thru DCL--was also wondering what was included in that rate (does it include transportation from airport to hotel and then hotel to port?)

We are not experienced international travelers and are concerned about doing this on our own. If we book our own hotel room for Fri evening, do we need to get ourselves from airport to hotel and then hotel to port or can we book through thru DCL ?

If we do it on our own, and we take the red-eye in on Fri a.m. (currently booked thru DCL), what do we do with our luggage if we want to tour around Barcelona for the day?

Thanks for your patience with this first post full of questions!!! Sorry for all the questions...and I'll probably have more!!! We are so excited for this cruise but trying not to wish the time away too fast...we have some excitement happening before this cruise even gets here. My nephew (bro/sis-in-law's son) is getting married in May at Sea Breeze Point at the Boardwalk at Disney !!!

OK - it is silly question time...

1. We are in Barcelona as of 9am Thursday morning. So, what shouldn't we miss? I have a lot that I want to see, but hove no clue what to do and see for/with the kids... Any help would be appreciated.

2. People have been telling me to transfer my reservation to a TA. Why do this? Are there perks? Is there a preferred TA that you would suggest? I always book direct with Disney for all of our Disney trips, so if I am missing out on something someone please tell me!!

3. My kids loved to board early this past September and look for the cast members they know (specifically servers and stateroom attendants). I am guessing that they will want to do this again... What time can we board in Spain? Anyone know?

4. When the online booking for excursions, spa and Palo open up are you still held to one Palo visit even though the cruise is longer? (I can't believe I am starting to think abour this stuff... Its gonna be a long wait...)

I just know that you all can help to answer these questions, along with the thousand of others I will likely ask!!

Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure of the ages of your kiddos, but mine really liked Parc Guell. It was designed by Gaudi (sp?) as a planned community, but is now a wonderful park with whimsical structures, sculpture, gardens, and yes, a playground. We also liked the farmer's market type place off of Las Ramblas (brain cramp right now on the name:confused:). We like those kinds of things.

My girls were 13, 11.5 and not quite 4 at the time.

Someone asked about where to take a large group photo, on the eastbound Panama Canal cruise in Aug. 2008 they took a picture for us on deck 10. This was only a portion of our very large DIS group.

OMG What a huge thread. I would really love to go back to the beginning of the first thread and start reading, I just don't have that much free time!
So...It's me, DH, DD9 and DD8. We will be joining you all the way from Australia.
We are booked and paid in full, no backing out now! We booked Cat10 GTY, Unfortunately we have to add flights (Brisbane, Australia - Singapore - London - Barcelona and Orlando - LAX - Home) to our costing which just blows it right out. OH well, at least we're on board, First time cruisers so at least we have nothing to compare to, LOL!
We are doing about 10 days at WDW at the end of our cruise, so everything's in place for a fabulous vacation! Looks like we've got a pretty good bunch to sail with! The countdown begins..........

Usually any hotel will look after your bags.

Su, I transfered my rezzy to Du, I only got a 50 room credit, not really worth it, but they done a great job getting me the panama canal cruise I transfered to them anyway.

By Metro Underground

Also known as the subway or “tube”, the Barcelona Metro Underground Bus doesn’t techncially run to and from the airport directly, although you can connect to it via one of the transport methods listed above. Once you arrive at the city centre, you can catch the Metro from either the Barcelona Sants or Passeig de Gracia stations.

Below is a map of the Metro routes. This map displays the TMB routes (L1, L2, L3, L4, L5) and the FGC metro lines (L6, L7, L8), along with the Tram Lines (T1 to T4). Circles indicate points on the route where you can get off and board a different bus if necessary.

I know we would have been in the same issue - that added to the fact that I've actually booked flights!

Hi everyone. My group has planned since January 09 to go on the westbound transatlantic...i've mostly been a lurker on this thread; although I did post once way back when. It's hard to keep up with all the activity.

Nice to see you popping back in!
Not sure about this sorry.
We are not experienced international travelers and are concerned about doing this on our own. If we book our own hotel room for Fri evening, do we need to get ourselves from airport to hotel and then hotel to port or can we book through thru DCL ?

Now on this one I think you will need to get to the hotel yourself but if its a hotel DCL is using for pre stays you can then get their transfers to the port. Some hotels do offer shuttles to them from the airport but depends on the hotel.

We are staying at the Renaissance at the airport the night before as only arriving late (not sure what your plans are). We have paid for Disney transfers to the port from the airport so will use the free airport to hotel shuttle on the Friday night then back to the airport on the Saturday morning before catching the Disney transfers to the port.

My nephew (bro/sis-in-law's son) is getting married in May at Sea Breeze Point at the Boardwalk at Disney !!!

If you arrive on Friday morning, most hotels do have some sort of luggage storage. If you are on about doing a tour with Disney I would assume if they offer them that day that it would be from your hotel. If its from the airport then they would have storage on the tour.

OK - it is silly question time...

There's no such thing!
1. We are in Barcelona as of 9am Thursday morning. So, what shouldn't we miss? I have a lot that I want to see, but hove no clue what to do and see for/with the kids... Any help would be appreciated.

Sangra Familia - definately try to get up here (spelling may be wrong so appologies) as its a beautiful church
Magic Fountains - at night they do a musical water show at the Fountains and its meant to be amazing!

2. People have been telling me to transfer my reservation to a TA. Why do this? Are there perks? Is there a preferred TA that you would suggest? I always book direct with Disney for all of our Disney trips, so if I am missing out on something someone please tell me!!

I'm not with a TA. Basically if you transfer you can get some OBC. This does however mean any changes need to go through your TA which is why I haven't done it. You still book trips and palo through the DCL website but changes to other things are done through your TA.

3. My kids loved to board early this past September and look for the cast members they know (specifically servers and stateroom attendants). I am guessing that they will want to do this again... What time can we board in Spain? Anyone know?

They started boarding around 12 last time.

Yes you can only book 1 Palo brunch, 1 Palo afternoon tea and 1 Palo dinner in advance but they allow you to book more once onboard.

Hiya. I think we have a couple of people from New Zealand on here too so there will be a few Antipodeans onboard.

We've managed to blag 6 days in WDW after the cruise so should be good. It's me and my partner Dan travelling and we can't wait. Flights are the worst part of this trip mind as they seem to be very expensive! I guess yours are more of a nightmare with all the changes :scared1: Glad youre joining us though!

Well I picked up an AZ Lottery ticket (jackpot about 2.1 million) and a PowerBall (20 million) for tonight's drawings, just in case 'fate' wanted me on this cruise!
Jackie, I'm glad you still have your sights on this cruise.

Do you have the recipe of the Konk Koolers and the banana bread???

I do. Dear hubby did the calculations for me to cut the banana bread down to 3 loaves. It was quite a deal as he had to convert pounds of flour, sugar, etc to cups for me. I say often that I married him so I do not have to do math. :worship::love::rotfl:

Shall I post them?

I know we would have been in the same issue - that added to the fact that I've actually booked flights!

Panic over I think :cloud9: I just had a look around the main cruise board and it seems that it is some of the 2011 Med cruises that have been suspended. The 2010 cruises are unaffected.

I received this at work today and my heart just about stopped:

Last-gasp cash keeps airline flying - for now
Scottish airline Flyglobespan has secured a cash injection, staving off bankruptcy. Administrators had been lined up to handle the airline's collapse, but management have secured new funding at the last-minute. It is understood that the airline's problems were in part due to delays in receiving payments from E-Clear, a credit card processing company. Contingency plans to repatriate thousands of passengers who would have been affected by a collapse are believed to have been drafted. Source: Independent on Sunday

Lets hope they pull though.
