We went to the library and picked out a few books on Spain and Spanish. I took four years of Spanish in High School...it seems to be coming back easier then I thought it would. We finished our countdown chain (it took forever)....and I have emptied out all the change jars in the house. I am gonna open an account for my DD at the Credit Union, and this will hopefully be enough for Misc and tips on the cruise.

We have time.....but, now I am tracking airfares.....OUCH!

Hi all!

Because I love to plan vacations I am also looking at planning a spring 2012 (don't laugh, time flies!) 2+ week on the west coast, spanning from Vancouver (getting there across Canada in the 4 day silver service train ride) and heading down the west coast to San Francisco and San Diego, where we have family. We'd like to do a mix of touristy stuff and natural sight-seeing (I am desperate to see the west coast ocean and the redwood forests, among other things). Of course, we'll stop in at Disneylan for 2 days, too.

I guess I like to have the next two vacations on the brain and since the Jan cruise is all booked and done, I've moved on :rotfl: I think that our next vacation after that in 2013 will be a dude ranch in the States or Alberta. And then DH and I would love to go to Japan....Did I mention I love vacationing?!?

Hope you all have a good Saturday!

Sounds like you have some great plans there - I am always planning the next few years' vacations in my head too. I would love to do a West Coast USA road trip and a road trip around Florida at some point in the future - aswell as an Eastern Med cruise, and a Caribbean cruise which stops in Dominica and St. Vincent in particular. To be honest the "to do" list is endless!

My mind at the moment is on another cruise. Two weeks from now we should just have sailed away from Port Canaveral. Somehow I managed to get behind with getting ready for that cruise. I am in the process of putting the lanyards together that I will give as the main FE gift. I have 50 done and 50 more to do. This is definitely a labour of love. I hope that I get them finished tonight and then I will finish of the gifts for the older boys tomorrow. I have a few more gifts to label as well and then I am done with this. I also have to type up the notes that I intend to leave for my Secret Mickey. I can't believe that I will nearly be in Orlando in 11 days time.

Corinna

You must be so excited :woohoo::woohoo::woohoo: 2 weeks until your Disney Cruise :woohoo::woohoo: and by then we will be 2 weeks closer to ours!

If you get the chance to do a road trip on the West Coast, I would definitely recommend this. We did this in 2006. We started out in Anaheim, where we spent a day at a nature preserve and with some shopping and then I had a day at Disneyland and Californian Adventure. Then it was off to Las Vegas. On the way, we spent a few hours at our favourite Outlet Mall. We were not too impressed with Las Vegas on the whole, but loved the Dolphin Habitat and the Secret Garden at the Mirage. Then it was on to the Grand Canyon, which was easily my favourite even though I was not too keen on the idea when we were planning the trip. From there we headed to Scottsdale, Arizona for a couple of days before we drove to the desert to San Diego. I ended up getting a Fun Card (annual pass for the price of a single day admission) and spend all the days at Seaworld. In the evenings we went to a baseball game, went to Old Town and had a meal with some people from a forum that I was active on at a time. It was a fantastic vacation.

I am definitely getting excited about my upcoming vacation. Tomorrow it is time for my single digit dance as we are leaving for Florida on October 3rd. We are staying at the Crowne Plaza Orlando Airport for three days. We are intending to go to Florida Mall on the first full day and then have a dinner at our favourite restaurant (Salt Island on International Drive) in the evening. On the Friday I will go to Seaworld. I am not sure if DH will come with me or if he will do his own thing. At some stage I also have to get down to Orlando Premium Outlets as I just found out that they have a Crocs outlet there.

My lanyards are all done. I saw some great shoes for formal and semi formal night yesterday, but did not buy them. So I have to go back into town in a minute to get them.

Hi all!

Glad to hear about the return of the pup. Thank goodness!

We're all good here. Awaiting our honeymoon cruise Jan.2 which is all paid for, Palo, excursions and spa stuff booked (yay!). But BEFORE the cruise is the really special day, and prep for that is going well.

I've been reading with interest the 2011 cruise info, but I don't think it's in the cards for us with two cruises in 2010. Also, with the new tiered system of booking we'd have no chance at either tier 1 pricing or a good choice of a cabin (we're not even silver yet), so we're not going to bother to book. We're interested in an Alaska cruise or a Panama canal cruise, but will choose another line, most likely due to the above. I'm sure we'll be thrilled with our Disney cruises in 2010!

Glad things are going well. The 2012 vacation sounds good!

:cool1: :woohoo: Doing the happy dance in Ohio, too! :cool1: :woohoo: Can't wait to see you all!!

PS: Where the heck did the last 11 months of waiting go?!!!

LOL I know! Can't believe we booked almost a year ago!

Corinna, I'm sure theyll be worth it when they are sorted. Just think of the fun youll be having in 2 weeks! Wish I was going with you

We've been doing that with our change pot. I think we have around $50 in there so far so this is our tip pot

I dont mean to put you off, but if you speak to them in Spanish, they answer you back in English.

You are such a lucky thing!

Hope you guys all had a great weekend.
Next we are looking for an apartment.
I love planning for hols, it is great.
Just sent off to DU re panama canal, i hope we can afford it.
Being a vet nurse I get plenty of job sattisfaction but not plenty of money!:hippie:

Anstruther was lovely, and incase you were all wondering, Orly never got off his lead!!!!:dance3: he is still very quiet and his nose and private parts are peeling!serves him right. Now I have to dye the grey hair he caused.

Just got back from the Magic. We were on a 7-night Eastern Caribbean with Tortola. It was a reunion of sorts with fellow cruisers from some prior cruises -- Nov '06 Costa Maya double dip and May '08 EB PC.

The Magic is in good shape. Since the last time we sailed (Oct '08) they've added new dinner menus, 3D movies in the BV Theatre, Photopass, the self-serve laundry takes the KTTW card (we did not use this), and they take an ID photo at check-in that shows each time they scan your KTTW card at ports.

One noticeable cutback is they replaced the afternoon Disney Co./Imagineering guest lecturer with film clips hosted by a Cruise Staff member.

All in all, it was a very enjoyable cruise.

The Southwest is a wonderful trip, but don't forget about us here in the Northwest! Glacier National Park and Yellowstone National Park are wonderful sights to see also along with the Oregon Coast it would make a great, great trip. And of course the Morkerts:yay: live very near Glacier so a DIS meet would be in order also!! :dance3::hug:

Time to start a change pot I think - and watch those pennies grow and turn in $$$$ for tips - great idea!

I dont mean to put you off, but if you speak to them in Spanish, they answer you back in English.

They do that to me everytime I go to Disneyland Paris - they do seem pleased that you make an effort, but they still reply in English.

I would love to visit the North West too - in fact, there are so many places in the USA that I want to visit that it would probably take a lifetime: As well as the West Coast, Las Vegas, Grand Canyon etc and the Florida road trip, I would also like to visit New England, Niagara, New Orleans and Louisiana, New York, Washington, North West Coast - in fact anywhere with stunning scenery or history.

Ah bless him lol. Hes probably going to be sorry for himself for weeks.

As for the Spanish thing, I agree. Unless you sound native they will answer you in English!

Oh sounds good although the lectures are a let down. How was Tortula? How were the new menus - well then again they aren't so new anymore are they?

Time to start a change pot I think - and watch those pennies grow and turn in $$$$ for tips - great idea!

I'm only doing it as my mother brought me a nice pot that counts the change I put in and told me it had to go on the cruise. Was amazed how quickly I got around $50! It was shocking. Mind you I've been ruthless and any money dropped on the floor or left on the side by me or Dan ends up in the pot after about 10 minutes of not being claimed lol. He thinks I'm mad.

They do that to me everytime I go to Disneyland Paris - they do seem pleased that you make an effort, but they still reply in English.
I think this is a problem with some European countries! I just think it makes people less likely to try - or at least it makes me less likely to try!

Glad you enjoyed your cruise Woody:woohoo: What did you think of the new dinner menus? Do you have any more cruises before this one?

LOL glad I'm not the only one interested in the food!

Niagara was wonderful! I liked Washington too as it was really relaxing walking around there. Have also done Vegas and the Grand Canyon but that's about it. Oh and North Carolina Outer Banks is beautiful if you want somewhere to relax!

The Northwest is definitely on our wishlist as well. I suppose once we got cruising out of our system, we can start to consider other kinds of vacations again.

Well, today is our single digit day for our next vacation. We booked this nearly 11 months in advance and at times I wondered if this day would ever arrive. In 9 days time we are hopefully on the plane to Florida just taking off.

I am still not quite done with my preparations. The lanyards are all done now, but I still have to finish off the older boys' gift (yes, I know, I have been saying this for weeks) and have to do the labels for the late joiners. DH is away on business over night so when I get home from work at about 9PM, I will have a late dinner, put my Angels and Demons DVD on and get the last few things finished off.

and well done on getting all that FE preparation done - I was still doing the labels on my FE gifts on the ship last time - not this time though - I have a year to get organised!

Where did your Mum get the counting pot from? That would be great for me as I like to see it add up? Also does it add up in $$$$$ oe have you converted it?

It was from Avon actually. Doesn't convert it - had to work that out myself lol but is really good. They have one in their new catelogue that not only counts but also sorts the money into the different denominations. Mine is obviously last years model lol.

Glad you enjoyed your cruise Woody. What did you think of the new dinner menus?

We enjoyed the new menus. They were new to us, as we hadn't sailed since Oct. '08.

The menus offer more variety. I recall one night there were eight entree choices instead of five.

The dessert menu often had a "trio" of mini desserts. It was a nice way to sample different items.

I love the look of the trio! Can't wait to try that!

Is anyone keeping track of the booking madness? I was for my sister whos silver and wants to do the repo from LA to Vancouver. Rumour has it that the 50% discount on deposit may be ending on Wednesday!

that is a good idea, last time when we could not decide they brought us them all, even though I told them not to!just a waste.

Sarah, I have been watching panama canal prices and hoping they dont go up.

Sarah, I have been watching panama canal prices and hoping they dont go up.

I think I might be swaying towards the LA-Vancouver repo as it seems reasonable. Put in a very late (as Gold CC member) DU request to have a look at the prices and may phone later.

Niagara was wonderful!

We live in the Niagara area, forget about what things are like when you see it all the time. Had friends, Lyn (lyn9856) and her DH, who we met on our last cruise visit with us for a week. So, we spent the week being local tourists. Didn't realize how much there is to do.
