Hi, shipmates!! We just booked last week. We had been booked for a SPH for a 5 day double dip in June on the Wonder. After looking at the prices, we changed that cruise to a cat 8 (5012) on the WB TA. I know the airfare and tips will be a lot more, but all those sea days will make it well worth it!! It will be me, DH, DS12 and DS10.

Welcome aboard!!!:cheer2:

Hi everyone!

Just got back from a week of historic site-seeing in St. Louis, a little in Kentucky and Springfield, IL. I guess you can say we did a Lincoln tour since we visited his birthplace, a childhood home, his young adult home in New Salem, his adult home in Springfield, his law offices, the Train Depot where he left for Washington, DC, his grave and his Presidential Museum. It was fun, but I missed Dave.

We had a 13 hour drive home from Illinois yesterday which was made worse by the rain! We had a nice time, but I'm glad to be home...not glad to have to go back to work though.

Wedding plans have really geared up. We're going to hit our 3 month mark on Thursday so there is a lot to do!

Welcome to all of those who just joined the cruise!

Hope all is well with everyone! :)

Earlier this year, we went on a Trans-Pacific cruise. We had a stretch of five days at sea, and at times the waves got pretty rough. Many people experienced motion sickness.

What type of motion might we expect on a Trans-Atlantic cruise?

Anyone have any favorite remedies?

I have never got sick but family members have and most swear by Bonine or Dramamine. But you must take them before you get on the ship and continue to take them as directed. If you wait until you become ill they wont do much for you for several hours. They prefer the non drowsey formula or they knock you out. That is what they experienced.

Others swear by ginger tablets they bought where you buy vitamins at the drug store or health food stores. Many like them because they dont make you drowsey and you arnt putting medication into your system, especially for kids. They also bring Ginger ale pop to drink if needed.

I have been told the ship does have some ginger ale on hand if you ask for it but in rough seas they run out fast.

I know doctors can prescribe a patch which is worn behind the ear. You see many people wearing them on the cruise. Those also must be worn before you set sail. Some people have side effects of blurry vision with the patch but thats probably better than nausea.

Ok those are the things I know of for motion sickness. As I said I have never been ill, so this is what family or friends have told me, not my experiences.

I have been in rough seas twice and not been bothered, thank goodness. I have seen Dramamine for sale on the ship but it does sell out fast if you hit rough seas.

I hope none of us needs it this cruise. Smooth sailing all the way:thumbsup2

OK the TA's last time it was a bit odd. On the May one (EB) the weather was like you described. The pools were closed because it was so bad and people were being sick everywhere. One deck party had like 5 people turn up (it was a dance/character party and they were all kids but we wandered past and noticed them). It was really rough but I found Ginger Ale helped and actually felt OK. you just felt permenantly drunk for a few days lol.

On the WB in August it was a different story. The water was barely moving. It was beautiful.

The only thing I would point out is that we were told both were unseasonable so I guess it's anyone's guess what it will be like.

Definately with sit down meals order ginger ale. It really does help and it's free in the restaurants

They didn't run out of Ginger Ale on the TA last year so don't think we have anything to worry about (fingers crossed). Also don't know how good the free tablets are from sick bay but might be worth popping down for some before it gets too rough.

I got a sick the first night of our last cruise. The gift shop on the Wonder sold wrist bands that have a little plastic ball on the inside. The directions tell you how to correctly wear them so they hit a certain pressure point. Relief was immediate. I think they were called Sea Bands. I felt a little like Sporty Spice the rest of the cruise, but had no problems with motion sickness!

I take Bonine everyday. I definitely need it and have never gotten sick on a cruise since I started using it.

I've used the Sea Sickbands a few times and I agree they do work - though not sure how much of that is psychological lol

DH and I are just booked for the Westbound TA and we are so excited! This will be our 2nd cruise. We did a 3 night on the Wonder last year and knew we needed to do a longer cruise. Glad to find this thread and get to know some others going with us. We booked a Cat. 9 on deck 2. Anyone near us?

Can't wait!

HI and welcome aboard! We are Sarah and Tony from North Wales and this will be our 2nd cruise too - we are GTY 11 but hoping for an upgrade!

Well, I am busy planning for our October vacation. Everything is booked and payed for. I finally sorted out the FE gifts for the cruise. I have decided to do customized lanyards. The lanyards are ordered and I love the proof they sent me. I had one of those discount business card printers do the cards to for the lanyard with our cruise meet logo on the front and a lime green Mickey head and space to put the name on the back. Now I just have to find the clear pouches to put the cards in and then I start assembling the gift.

I also sorted out our ESTAs and our DME transfers back to the airport after our post cruise stay.

Today I signed up DH for the Race for the Taste on the day after we get back from the cruise. DH has taken up running and we were looking at this a while ago. He had originally planned on waiting until September to make up his mind, but he asked me yesterday if I could register him, which I did this morning. So it will be the race for him and the commemorative pin for me. I will go to the starting line at Wide World of Sports with him and once the race is under way, they will take spectators by bus to the finishing line. There is a post race picnic near Epcot and he got me a ticket for that as well.

Tomorrow I can start making my ADRs, but as we have a split stay, I might only be able to do the ADRs for the first 4 nights.

Corinna

Your plans sound very exciting and the lanyards sound great! Not long now...

Today we will drive up to Glacier National Park since we are only 30 miles away and our DGS and DDIL have not been there. Then home tomorrow. We have been on a 2 week RV camping spree over to the Oregon Coast and now here. :thumbsup2

Sounds wonderful!

Your vacation sounds great - I would love to visit some historical locations in America if I can ever tear myself away from WDW!

I am bit worried about the motion sickness too - I took the free meclazine tablets from Guest Services when we were on our last cruise - it worked really well - I would prefer a non-pharmaceutical remedy though if possible - might try the seabands next time.

Good morning everyone,
Its HOT around here lately. Upper 90's so I am hibernating in the afternoons:lmao:

WELCOME To all the new people, great to have you along.:goodvibes

Nothing for me to chat about today, I just wanted to check in and say hello and catch up on reading some posts. Been busy with mom.
Have a great day everyone,

Kathy

Good morning, Kathy. Not much going on here either. WiiFit, cleaning house, mowing yard today. :sad2:

The bands are really good. Also if you find they aren't working ask some of the crew (especially the spa staff) as you may have them in the wrong place.

Also not something I'm recommending 24/7 because I want to be able to get in there at some point, but the rainforest room in the spa I found really good. Weird I know but the hot beds and shipwreck noises on the first DCL cruise I did actually really helped. That's the only time I've been sick and I had seasick bands but was told after 1 day I had them in the wrong place. Once sorted they worked a treat.

Also I really do think Ginger helps! My Dad reckons most medication/remedies don't really work but the bar staff on the EB TA told him he had to have ginger ale and it worked! Oh and Green Apples but they have to be Green!

Hi Angie,
wish I had known you were going to the Oregon coast for 2 weeks. We could have met up with you for a visit again.
We were there the weekend of June 27th at Yachats and our son lives at Newport a bit farther north.
What areas did you visit?

Kathy

Hello Everyone!

Just popping in to say Hello! Everything here is good. Everyone keep cool! It's warm here in Utah again today. I am trying to stay cool. Have a great Day!

Just stopping by to say hello. I had a cardiac catherization on Monday and thank goodness they did not find any major blockages. There were a couple small ones that they cleared and said I am having spasms of the blood vessles around my heart. He put me on some medication to dilate the vessels that I have to take once a day and said I should be fine once I get used to the medication. So I am off again this week recovering because the doctor said my job is too physical to go back right away. I just have to get this heart thing under control before my September Adventures By Disney trip to Europe and more importantly my son's wedding August 15.
