I have never got sick but family members have and most swear by Bonine or Dramamine. But you must take them before you get on the ship and continue to take them as directed. If you wait until you become ill they wont do much for you for several hours. They prefer the non drowsey formula or they knock you out. That is what they experienced.
Others swear by ginger tablets they bought where you buy vitamins at the drug store or health food stores. Many like them because they dont make you drowsey and you arnt putting medication into your system, especially for kids. They also bring Ginger ale pop to drink if needed.
I have been told the ship does have some ginger ale on hand if you ask for it but in rough seas they run out fast.
I know doctors can prescribe a patch which is worn behind the ear. You see many people wearing them on the cruise. Those also must be worn before you set sail. Some people have side effects of blurry vision with the patch but thats probably better than nausea.
Ok those are the things I know of for motion sickness. As I said I have never been ill, so this is what family or friends have told me, not my experiences.
I have been in rough seas twice and not been bothered, thank goodness. I have seen Dramamine for sale on the ship but it does sell out fast if you hit rough seas.
I hope none of us needs it this cruise. Smooth sailing all the way
