Ok, so no one claimed FE as theirs, so it is mine, all mine!!! pirate: And I way want smaller groups! I want to try and make something, and making 100 of anything would just be too daunting! So groups of 25 it is. :woohoo:

Here is the plan... Sign up if interested. Encourage people not on the meet thread to join and sign up! (:welcome:) Come March 1st. I will start dividing people up. I will put 25 cabins to a group :grouphug: and assign a color to the group. I won't do less than 10 in a group. So, if we have 50 people we will have two groups; 63 people will be 2 groups of 25 and a group of 13. As I get groups of 25 cabins solidified, I will close the group and send the info out to the people involved. If we get to June 1st and we have our groups of 25 and a small group of less than 10 I will ladd them across the groups of 25. :stir: Hopefully this wont be too painful for the groups that were closed off early. Around June 10th all of the groups will be announced. :smickey:

Anyone that signs up before June 1 will be automatically in a group. :cheer2: Anyone that signs up after June 1 will be wait listed. I haven't figured out wait listing at this point - but think that it will be that people that sign up in June will be in a group and then July and August will be a group. If those groups go above 25 then I will break them up following the same set of 'rules' as I did for the early groups. If we only get a handful of people that sign up after June 1, we will have to revisit and see if they can be absorbed into another group. :confused3

Now, I haven't done a FE exchange before so this could sound like I am high on something (only on life, I promise - I haven't even had a glass of wine as yet...:hippie:). Please - if what I am planning is a bad idea, please speak up!!!

Oh - I know we have a couple of people that are in room mate situations and that there will be 2 FE's to those cabins. Please, if you are in that situation, when you sign up drop me a PM. Also let me know if you want to be grouped in the same color grouping as your roomies!

That sounds great .... I did the same thing for our FE exchange on my last cruise and it worked really well Sue. :goodvibes:goodvibes. I also put all the late arrivals who wanted to join in at the last minute into their own group and they were happy with that. I can't wait to start thinking about the gifts I want to make. :yay::yay::yay:

I've signed up :banana::banana::banana:

Well, unfortunately I can tell you all that the Heidelberg Children's hospital emergency room is well run. We spent almost all day there with Rio (whose asthma flared up very badly). I am hoping not to go back any time soon even though it was a well run place:rolleyes1
I think I am nieve... I brought the kindle to the pool (all three) and would walk away leaving it on my chair. It was always there when I got back. I didn't leave for more than 15 - 30 minutes, but that would be long enough for someone to pick it up... Note to self, don't be careless with the kindle...
I am sure being careful with a Kindle is important, however I don't think you are totally naive at all. My understanding (which might be totally wrong) is that you can only download onto a Kindle from the amazon.com account that particular unit is registered to. This makes them not very tempting to thieves (as all they could be used for is reading what was already on them).

It sounds like you have it set up very well and are organized. Thank you so much for taking this on.

Can I pack yet?
Our kids start the school year next week (we do Jan-Dec), have to do all the boring things like buying new school shoes and uniforms, covering books and getting haircuts....Would rather be packing for the cruise!

We had an Australian exchange student stay with us for two weeks over Christmas. She had never thoguht about having school years which straddle two calander years and was appalled at the thought (that is a 17 year old for you:laughing:).

I've been checking Kayak.com almost every day for several weeks now waiting for a good deal on air fare. Found it today! We booked from Chicago to Barcelona for $493 each! We leave the US on Wednesday and arrive in Barcelona Thursday morning. Since we got that taken care of, I went ahead and booked hotel also at Praktik Rambla. Sounds like that hotel is going to be half full of cruisers. Look foward to seeing everyone there.

In response to a few of the recent questions, a pre-cruise meet Friday night would be awesome. This is our first cruise as DIS members, so we don't really know anyone yet.

Also, I really like the 25 person groups on the FE exchange. The 60-100 number was intimidating.

Yay for having everything booked now! (Well, except return flights, but getting away from Florida just doesn't seem that urgent...)

My BFF Stephanie (Steffy on the DIS) and I are getting so excited now!!! We had a chance to rebook while on our Dec 6 cruise so we got a better rate. we just added airfare and are waitlisted on a hotel room We are leaving Sept 16 out of Baltimore.

I really like the idea of smaller groups for the FE exchange. Saves on extra weight for our luggage.

Sue,,,,I sent you a PM and today I will finally sign us up on the website. We also want to sign up for the lanyards.

I still have a few giftcards from our trip in Dec so I can now start adding more $$$$ on them :cool1::woohoo::thumbsup2:yay::dance3:

Can't wait now!!!!:yay::yay:

Lovely then! I will book 3 for tea, whichever day I can get....if I can get any at all.

A group would be fun. I think, from previous experience, that you all have to book your own and the group just has to try to get same day, same (or close) time. Palo will work with groups for brunch and put you in the private dining room, but I don't think they do this for tea.

Stephanie (Steffy) and I were just talking that since this is such a long cruise that we wanted to do as many times in Palo as we can. So we want to do the Tea, Brunch and Dinner and even try to waitlist if we can. I just love their Salmon Mousse. YUMMMMM!!!!

This sounds perfect to me. I will go sign up - not sure if my roommate will want to participate or not. She is currently on a Western Caribbean cruise this week.

As to those of you requesting time off, I am doing a B2B and I am still worried that something that is going to come up and they are going to say – um we are sorry but you can’t take the time off. I put in for my time off (month of September) back in October 2008. I just wish I could get it in writing. I bought my airfare the other week so now even more nervous of the rug getting pulled out from under me, so I got a separate travel insurance policy to cover my flight (as I am doing Disney’s for the “cruise” portion).

I am also booked at the Praktik Rambla, but it is for September 6th & 7th.

I am thinking of getting an iPod Touch. Not interested in the iPhone due to the cost of the service, so thinking the Touch might be the right fit for me. I know it will work wonderfully in San Francisco, as we have free Wi-Fi everywhere, but I was wondering how much free (or even cheap pay by minute) Wi-Fi is out there in the rest of the world, particularly in Europe. If I get one not sure what size to get either, as I am not a big game person, I see using it for travel applications, music, movies/tv, finding places to eat, etc.

It is suppose to rain all week here in San Francisco. So hope to get some things done on my to do list this week. I have started some plastic containers with items I will be packing (tube of toothpaste, deodorant, travel laundry detergent, travel alarm clock, etc). Hope everyone has a wonderful week. Not sure how often I will be online as things are starting to pick back up again at work, in fact will be going to work later today, so hope to check in at least on the weekends.

Just got back from taking Candida to the airport in Hamilton. Unfortunately, she is not on a vacation or work related trip. My step dad has been up and down with his health for awhile now. He has been bouncing in and out of the hospital for just over a month now. Last week he had to be taken back in. When he commented to the doctor that he was planning on doing something in a month the doctor replied " You won't be alive that long". So, my step dad decided to check himself out and in his words, "Die at home"

Since, Candida doesn't work she decided she would head to North Dakota to help out my mom. Not sure how long she'll be there, for my mom's sake I hope it is awhile, for my sake I hope it is not long.

Thanks for listening,
Jon

:woohoo::woohoo::woohoo: another Praktik Rambla booking !!!!!!
I looked into booking there- and they did respond rather quickly when I emailed about if they'd allow another child in one of the two rooms we'd have to book (since we're a family of 5- and they said yes... a free extra bed for a child under age 12) but dang..... having to get 2 rooms we can get really nice huge apartments that sleep up to 9 people for less than at Praktik. :(

So I think we're looking into renting an apartment instead. The only thing is that I'm not sure about the "areas" to know which one to pick?

I posted this on another thread- I'll post it here in case anyone here can help me?
Okay I think I need some help.
Basically we have disney air- but can't get a Disney hotel (and not sure we'd want to anyway- some of them are REALLY expensive for 2 rooms for a family of 5- but anyway, right now we don't have a choice.... we've been waitlisted for some time now and nothing is opening up)

So I've been looking around- checked out a lot (I think all LOL) of the places linked to on this thread..... still having difficulty finding places at all that accomodate 5, and even if they do- it's quite expensive.... especially when you factor in the air deviation fee (looks like so far we'll need to stay with Disney air because it's cheaper than we can get on our own) and transportation and all that.

So I started looking into apartments to rent and they are WAY more reasonably priced- way way more reasonably priced. Like we could go 3 nights in an apartment with multiple bedrooms, full kitchen, etc. etc.- some sleeping up to 9 people (not that we'd need that many unless some people wanted to bunk up with us LOL) for like the same price as ONE night in hotels in either suites that sleep 5 or multiple rooms for our family of 5. Or LESS for the 3 nights in the apartment than 1 night in a hotel.

but I'm confused on how to know what "district" is a good area?
I looked thru the apartments by using their map- and chose the closest one to the port (it's not like right there at the port- just closer than others) and it's a spectacular apartment for a spectacular price... which makes me suspicious. LOL

so how do you know which districts are good/safe/etc?
The one I'm looking at is in this district:
District / City: Sants-Plaza d´Espanya

How do I know which districts are good/bad? help?

Is anyone thinking of doing the 5k on Castaway Cay? I had trained for it before our October cruise, but never ended up doing it. I'd like to try again for the WB TA.

:hug:Oh Jon, I am sorry to read this--what a stressful time for you.

I was on the roll call page and i have to say: Lynne I love the dress you have on in your photo amd Kimberly I love your costume.

How exciting that many people are getting hotels booked. We will not know for a while if we are arriving Friday night or Saturday morning so we cannot book yet. BibbidyBobbidyBoo you absolutely have the right idea with staying in an apartment. I am sorry but I cannot help you with the area you are asking about. We satyed in the gothic quarter last time and felt very safe and had a lovely time. I notice afew people are going to DisneylandParis first. We went lat May for 4 days and I wrote a trip report with photos on our website (linked in my signature) if anyone is interested. We enjoyed it very much; it is quite different than WDW.

I know Lynne has booked an apartment. When she gets back from skiing she will probably give you some information about where she has booked.

I have found a website with brief info on the different areas of Barcelona and it also discusses safety and different scams that are used.
Maybe worth your while to check it out.

I am one post short to post a link. I will endeavour to do this in my next post.
