Good morning - it looks like a lovely day here in Wales - the sun is shining!:goodvibes

Hope everyone is well - I have been really busy the last few weeks planning our DDs 18th birthday party, which we held last Saturday and which went really well. It was a stars of stage and screen themed party and we all dressed up (well about 60% of the guests dressed up - there are always some boring family members who don't like dressing up :confused3)
Since then I have been on a 3 day course with work, but hopefully I have a relatively quiet month ahead, so should be able to join in with the thread a bit more again.

By the way - only 76 weeks until the cruise now - it's getting closer!:woohoo:

Sounds like a fun party... next time Im having you plan one for me:cool1:

QOTW.... The day we boarded the Magic in LA August 2005 EB repo.
A very nasty "family thing" left me crying for hours:sad2:. And since we were leaving port, I couldnt do a thing. Ive had to over look the entire situation and move on. We did have a great time. Favorite day(s) finding a family name on a info panel in the Fort Diego. And.... at CC.:cool1:

Time is flying by now till the cruise!

Ann :cheer2:

Well, the last time we (whole family) were in Miami we got robbed at gunpoint as we checked into our motel.:scared1:

And the last time I was in Miami with my DM we had cockroaches crawling out of the drain in the tub.

Sooooo, I'm not too crazy about Miami.:sad2:

Hmmmmmmm.....does this mean someone will be getting back to her trip report! ;)

.

it is on the agenda - might do a bit today now you have reminded me...:rotfl:

Okay, it has been quiet lately on the thread so I thought I would ask a Question of the Week(end). Has anyone taken a trip/city/amusement park/cruise that they would NOT recommend and if so why? Sometimes people have things happen to them in a particular city and they end up hating the city because of it.

Mine would be Palm Springs! Ugh! We went there - got stopped by the cops for speeding, I got bit by red ants and the hotel we stayed at, on the golf course, starting mowing in the morning at 4:00 AM! I couldn't wait to leave and will never go back - oh yes, my husband's grandmother also died when we were in Palm Springs!

My DH and I once took a last minute trip to Corfu in Greece and it was one of those "allocation on arrival" cheap deals where you don't know where you're going to be staying. We ended up in this appalling "Club 18-30" type town called Kavos - which was all "British Pubs" and "British Breakfast" type establishments - not exactly what you want when you are in Greece and had a mental image of whitewashed Greek buildings and tavernas etc and the last thing you want is anything "British" and tacky. This town had also been the subject of a TV programme called "Greece Uncovered" which basically documented the X-rated exploits of Brits on holiday and evrn though it was out of season the whole place was focused on booze, booze and more booze. I cannot stress how vile this place was.

On top of all of this it rained constantly for the week, the roads to the other towns were all being maintained and you could only get out of town on the bus for one day during the week to actually see something "Greek". The only thing we could do to pass the time was to watch really bad quality pirated DVDs on a big screen in one of the bars, and then I got food poisoning on the last evening from a very dodgy "authentic Greek" evening we went to, and had to fly back home in the airplane bathroom! And the rain was so heavy on one day that all the toilets backed up and all of the sewer contents ended up all over the bathroom floors :scared1::scared1:- which apparently is unavoidable when it rains in that part of the world if you are on the ground floor.

I have never been so desperate to get home, and it has certainly put me off ever going to Greece again! We will also NEVER take an "allocation on arrival" cheap deal again!

To answer the question of the week I would say we had a horrible time on board the Norweign Dawn for a Canadian cruise. The ports were wonderful, but the ship was awful. We will never cruise Norweign again.

On a lighter note and going over what we did in Barcelona in 2007 it brought to mind a do not miss free thing to do. The magic fountain is awesome. We loved it and it was a wonderful way to finish the day. Anyone arriving early may want to check it out. Here is a link about it.

Thanks for posting!

We plan on arriving in Barcelona about three days before the cruise so I'll need good ideas of things to see and do!

Thanks for that link. I can't wait to see it when we're in Barcelona. Not sure when we'll arrive, but we plan on touring the city. Any idea of when we'd be allowed to board the ship?

QUESTION OF THE WEEK - reply

OK I can not remember details - I guess it was bad but not that bad...
We were in Florida and had a rental car. WE parked in the hotel lot and in two days when we went to get back in, we opened the car to find a colony of ants had moved in. It was clear full - they came in though the airconditioning area..
I am not sure what happened after that. My dad took care of it and we stayed in the hotel while he did...
I remember nothing else about the trip - just the ants!

thank you for posting that :goodvibes

I am really enjoying reading the answers to the QOTW! The Greece trip sounded awful - I thought my Palm Springs was bad! Miami was terrible too - well, you all had some pretty nasty things. Nordkin, sorry to hear about your cruise. Hopefully we will get some more because they are probably "funny" now compared to when it was happening, except maybe Shmoo. I don't think a gun would ever get funny!

It was only for one night but it was just after our wedding. We were leaving Key West and stopped at a hotel on one of the keys and got a room. I was in the bathroom and saw a cockroach and my brand new DH took care of killing it and then flushed it down the toilet. Well, the toilet backed up and the stuff backed up in the tub too!!!!

Thankfully we were moved to another room right away.

I have to say for all of the moving I did during my childhood and married life, I have been lucky to not have experienced any really horrible times.

OH - thought of a worse story when I read about the newly weds...

My DH and I went to Vegas to stay at the brand new Luxor. We checked in, dropped the bags and left for a show and dinner...
Late that night wecame back to our room to find the towels in a heap on the floor. I do not kow if they were like that earier - I had not checked.

We called Customer service to request new towels and question the towels on the floor...

Before they could come up to the room, I pulled back the top bed cover to find the soft blanket cover was covered in a thick gooey muck.
Yes your mind went to the same place mine went.... OMG

They changed our room for the night. We left the next day and checked into the Pirate hotel for the rest of the trip. No refund or apology was given but I WILL NEVER STAY THERE AGIAN!!!

Hello, all! We've been busy - have been back to Disneyland last week, had a great time. Twice in one month ... I don't recall having done that before! Trying to finish up the taxes... I've got the place to myself ( + 2 cats") again.
Does anyone have more meetup pictures, or did I miss them? Loved the Chihuly pictures! Todd, Happy late birthday!

Bad vacation.... Rachel and I got seriously lost in the parking garage under the Kodak theater in Hollywood last week.... after they wouldn't let us walk back via Hollywood Blvd to the garage entrance we had parked near and had to walk the long way around the block to get there. We had come out of the garage thru a door Rachel had to kick open, then the door wouldn't open for us on the way back into the garage. We knew right where the car was as long as we could go thru that door, but couldn't. We hadn't memorized stuff, as the car was right at the bottom of the stairs thru that door....

Otherwise had a great time in Southern California!

I have a question about the Afternoon Tea at Palo. Is it much like the Tea at the Grand Floridian?

Anyone have pictures?

At least you have to think about it!!!! That is a good thing right?

Definitely!

I was thinking about some of the times we've stayed in the Anabella and had to deal with bad service, cockroaches, loud basketball-playing neighbors, and cold showers. But I don't think that's the worst ever...

Hi Everyone! We are in Las Vegas for the week. Enjoying just relaxing and walking around at our leisure. Weather is beautiful! Happy Monday to everyone!:banana:

Yes, it is very similar, though it is one set menu and not different choices. The scones are wonderful. I didn't take any decent photos sorry.

OK well to be honest I don't remember many horrible holidays just parts of them.

For example my sister burnt her back when we were in benidorm, spain and got blisters and her shirt stuck to her! That was horrid!

Dont think there's anywhere i wouldn't go back to though.
