Sept 17 2005 Magic - am i alone on the ship?

Still no doc dance but I have my dancing shoes out for tomorrow! I tried out the space bag today....so far so good. It does seem to save a lot of room. I need to look up weight limits. Like you said earlier Jen I'm sure I will be stuffing my purse in my carryon at the gate! As long as I can somehow make it fit!! I'm an awful packer, I always overpack. So if you forget anything, look me up, I probably have it!!::yes::
DS is happy, we finally found the Disney CD he has been searching for. Looks like dh wont be home for the holiday weekend afterall :( hopefully right after! This waiting makes me think of Chris' signature "keep swimming..keep swimming" -Donna

Our docs have arrived.

Gas is now at $3.29 here. :crazy2: Up 10 cents from less than 12 hours ago.

 to everybody. Talk to ya'll later.

BRAD

I can't believe the gas prices!! I am not terribly worried about the airports. Maybe I am naive but looking at the airports listed and the loss of revenue (Orlando, Dulles) there is to much money at stake to not take care of the problem. I don't really understand the problem though :confused3 . Why can't they get gas in, again?
Bill (GIna's ex) is heading down to get her and his son tomorrow (thank goodness). He said he will just keep looking until he finds them. She live(d) right on a river. He is taking a truck load of supplies down so tomorrow morning I will be out shopping for water, batteries, flash lights and the like. I am soooooo glad he is going.
Donna, So sorry your husband won't be home for the holiday weekend. BUmmer! He will for sure be home for the cruise though, right?

As of an hour ago, gas was $2.99 at Safeway. ($.03 less if you have a Safeway card) That's $.16 more than yesterday. We'll see what it is in the morning.

How about one of each in the Mens. If they have boy's, I would love to have two. You are the best! I can actually mail you a check before the cruise if you would like.
Was on the road all day yesterday, Whew!!! anyhow I went by Wal-Mart here in Lake City and the one in Gainesville, Jen was right none for boys. But I did get you two for men. They were $8.96 each with tax came to $19.04, don't worry about paying now, I'll see you on the ship. :boat: :dancer: I'll also bring the receipt to you. :goodvibes

Gas prices here are $2.99 and climbing, went by one store yesterday they had a sign out for $2.63 but were closed. Humm... :rolleyes1 so I stopped and they had a sign that said Out of Gas. Well I pulled in to try the pump and guess what...the gas truck must have come by and dropped them some gas!!! YAHOO!! :earseek: I filled up, got on the phone and called DH, DD, DS so four vehicles, two 5 gallon containers and a boat later I'm in business for a few days. But, that will not last and I don't see any reprieve coming here anytime soon. :sad2: The scary part is we all know everything is going to go :earseek: even cruises :scared:

Take care all hope everyone has a GREAT day!!!! :wave2:

I have not seen the gas prices since Monday so when I go into town today I may pass out! This is getting a bit scary. I would like to help the hurricane victims but with the gas prices and now the food prices I need to keep a reserve for my family. I feel bad but I don't see an end in site. I think they invent something that will break apart hurricanes before they make landfall. Well, I need to go to work so I will be back later.

I was out running some errands yesterday and did not even see what gas was here! I guess that was becasue I did not need any. I am sure that I will pass out when it is time to get it again! Luckily work and the sitter are only 2 miles from our house...so I usually only have to fill up about once every two weeks!

Jen, I hope everything is OK with your friend Gina. What city did you say she lives in? I was going to go to bed early last ngiht,b ut ended up watching the Huricane news until almost 11pm last night! Man it is really a mess down there. I was confused...have the Levy's in New Orleans held or not??? I could not quite figure that out.

Well, I am at work today...I am sure you all probably figured that out since I am posting so early! I am so glad tomorrow is Friday

Well, Jen, to answer your question, there are two major pipelines that run fuel from the Gulf up into the north and east. These lines were not damaged, but they require electric to pump the gas. So those airports are in danger becasue the lines aren't pumping gas to them. Luckily, a risk management expert on FOX last night said he thinks the electric will be replenished to these lines within a week (he's not with the electric companies - he just knows the loss prevention biz). And, about 10% of our fuel is "harvested" and refined in the gulf, so that's why the shortage.

Lisa (princess), the levees did NOT hold - at least one of them didn't anyways. So they are currently trying to drop 3000 pound sandbags into that levee to plug it up. However, they ran out of slings that attach the sandbags to the helicopters that drop them, so they are rushing more down to N.O. to start the process again. (And I think I already have you down for a reminder sign - 3 for your group total - sillememaw, ksumom, and you. But thanks for confirming. :goodvibes )

Lorra, have food prices gone up? I didn't hear about that?

That's about it for me this am - just wanted to answer those questions for people since I've been (unusually) hooked on FOX news this week. I've even been sleeping with it on (muted) so if I wake up in the middle of the night I can see what's happening.

Jen, I hope Gina's ex is safe - people are acting crazy - gunmen held up a supply truck going to the children's hospital! :confused3

Enough about this - I want to talk about the cruise. Who knows if we'll still get to go (with the weather and crazy stuff right now), but I hope so, because I am excited to meet you all and do some relaxing. Brad, congrats on the docs! That's good news! :)

Emily, are you okay? You've been very quiet lately. I know Missy is crazy busy with going back to school, but I just wanted to check up on you.

Alright, need to do...... something. Bye for now!

LKMiller...the levees were breaking. That's what was causing a lot of the problems in New Orleans. The winds caused quite a bit too, but the weak levees are what caused the massive flooding. :(

What I cannot understand is why people have to turn to violence when this type of thing happens...I understand that these people have lost everything, and I cannot even fathom the horrible feeling of grief that would be associated with that loss. But violence and greed? Why do people have to get greedy and violent? Attempts to rescue HUMAN LIVES had to be put on hold so that the police and what little national guard they have down there could try to control the looting and killing!!! I just don't understand that. It lowers my faith in humanity a notch or two. :sad2:

Anyway, I guess I'll step down now. I'm sorry. I just can't comprehend it. And it makes me angry. But enough about that.

15 MORE DAYS!!!!

We're almost down to 2 weeks exactly! (exactly 2 weeks from today is my last day of work before vacation!!! :cheer2: ) I need it SOOO badly too!! I am so burned out from work! Every day my coworkers must endure my endless rants, like:
"I need a vacation!"
"Is it September yet?!"
(and now it's gonna be:)
"Is it the 15th yet?"
:Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

Have a great day everyone

The boss is away..... time to play!!!!!! YIPEEE! OK.. I can handle a few days of actual work.... if that means I have time to play later! :cool1:

I wish there were something we could do for the hurricane survivors, but like someone mentioned .... I have to think of my kids and my family first, if prices are going to sky rocket it makes it hard to help others!! I thought of our Girl Scout troop doing some type of fundraiser, but I'm not sure 8 girls & 2 leaders would make much of a dent.

Well... let's perk things up... the boss is gone... remember??? :rolleyes1 Better get to work..... ha ha!!

Good morning. Gas rose another $.10 here, so that is $.58 total, so far.

Katrina has me all bummed out, too, Christal. I am planning to go to Best Buy to look at camcorders, but part of me is like, why bother?

Best Buy is having a 10% off sale for Labor Day weekend, so I was going to check it out today and maybe purchase tomorrow.

I love the idea of a pirate hat with hair for the DH. Where did you get it Lisa? That sounds fun!

TTFN, W.

Hi everyone!!

Jenny, yeah, I'm still here. Been busy, so that's why I haven't been posting as much.

Gas hasn't gone up yet, that I know of, but it took an hour to fill up my car yesterday b/c we had to go to 4 gas stations to find gas. I imagine it will increase by this afternoon though.

Later everyone,
Emily

Well, There seems to be a bit of good news for those cruising soon...like in the next week or so. IT SEEMS that "Lee" is just kinda "hanging out" in the eastern Atlantic, and seemingly won't be a threat to land. It's now just a tropical depression.
Then there's "Tropical Depression 14", which is expected to strengthen, but the model shows it heading north, and probably clear of hitting land at all.
And nothing is shown yet past that on the hurricane website, but last night on the local news, our weather guy pointed out another system that is behind 14, which may be what we'll need to watch.

OK, that's it for now...
