Sept 17 2005 Magic - am i alone on the ship?

Morning. No camcorder decision yet. My dad is fine -- they are staying at his girlfriend's sister's house Alexandria, Louisiana. His girlfriend's house is in Carriere MS (just outside of Picayune) -- abt 35 miles from N.O. I don't know what the situation is there, other than a lot of trees down, 60% of homes damaged from the winds, etc. don't know if they are in the path of the flood or not. In any event, they are safe.

I think I'll call my TA abt docs today. I was sorta giving her a break after the early seating panic last week. :earboy2:

Christal, I love your joke. My sense of humor, for sure. Lisa -- you are brave to try to catch up with the posts. It's overwhelming and I try to check daily.

Gas has now gone up from $2.41 Monday night to $2.89 this morning. I heard the administration is going to release some of the strategic oil reserve. I'm afraid of heating bills this winter. Seems like inflation is afoot!

Hmmm, gas was $2.83 here yesterday morning. I'm curious to see what it will be today. Wouldn't you know I didn't fill up yesterday??? Have to today, though.

Karen

Gas was $2.69 here yesterday...I gassed up Monday at $2.59. No telling wha it will be here today.

Some people (perhaps dumb ones) didn't get out because they thought it was "only" (hello) going to be a cat 3 then it jump to four and five quickly. I can't imagine not having a car either. I almost found out what it was like this morning as my kids lock the keys in the car :earseek: Thank goodness my husband's key to my car was here!

Lisa, Congrats on staying home on Wednesday. You deserve it girl!

Susan, Did they disclose that you were going to have to WORK when they hired you? Sounds like entrapment to me!

Time to get out the bicycles. Gas here is $3.19 and going to rise again by .14-.17 cents. So says the news.
Jen there is a Salvation Army crew from Louisville leaving for Pascagoula today.
Today was the first time I have watched the news in some time and seeing those pictures form,LA & MS. Truly heartbreaking. :grouphug: My prayers are with them.

On the brighter side of things, I received an e-mail from T/A. We have been changed to "main seating". What a revelation. :rotfl2: I mean, I heard from Disney a week ago. She probably has had my docs for a week now, too. I am going to call her. Next time I think we will cut out the middle man and book direct.

Unfortunately I'm off to work. This end of the month is busy, busy, busy.
See ya'll later,
BRAD :teeth:

Do you know a good lawyer? Seems how I work for an office full of them, he/she'd better be good!! They never said anything about that dirty 4 letter word!! :rotfl: Here I thought I'd be paid to sit & read up on my vacation!!

Kidding... I actually like being busy! Makes me feel like I'm actually helping out around here!! I was kinda starting to feel guilty!! :rolleyes1

Well off to see if they're all heading to WV this week or not... it's still up in the air.

Guilty for not working??? :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Who is this person saying she is my sister(KSUmom)??? :rotfl: I have had a wonderful day! I took some clothes that I will never fit in again to Amvets, picked up and dropped off dry cleaning, took some pictures that have needed framed for almost a year to our photographer, caught up on laundry and got caught up on DS's(1&3) baby book! I have to say...this working from home on Wednesdays could work out really nice! :cheer2: :cheer2: I did check and respond to all my work email and phone messages :badpc:

Susan...I'd say it sounds like you definitely have a case. They never disclosed the work part. (never even MENTIONED the word "work"!!) I'll represent you...I'm currently investigating a case against my employer for the very same thing... :rotfl: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

Anyway...gas was only up to 2.99 this morning here in STL... :earseek:
I just asked around the office to see if anyone would be interested in starting a carpooling system. I was actually joking, but they were taking me seriously! Then I started thinking that it makes sense!!! SHeesh! What can you do? :confused3
When we went on our Wonder cruise in '03, we just drove down...We're REALLY glad at this point that we decided to fly this time!!! I don't think we'd be able to afford the gas!

OK, I've wasted enough time...
Have a good afternoon everyone!
-Christal

My TA called before I even called her and my docs are in! Think, in keeping with the spirit of our "how dare they expect us to work?" thread today, I'll leave a bit early and go get 'em! Yeeeeeee Haaaaaaaa! :rockband:

:flower1: :flower1:

Oh I forgot! We do have another Lisa that posts.....I was thinking Lisa (constanz) I just think of PrincessLKMiller as "my little princess" ;) Sorry Lisa!!!!! Duh! I love your day! You should work from home on Fridays too (and Mondays and Tuesdays and......)

Brad, Thanks for the info. It is good to know help is on it's way....I found the local paper online and that helps me out a little.

The McDonnells get to join the Document Dance Fever!!!
Happy Happy JOY JOY :cheer2:

My wife will begin packing this weekend. Fantasy football is beginning.
The kids are back in school. Less than 4 months to Christmas.
All is almost alright in the world (can not stop thinking and praying about our fellow Americans in LA, MS, AL)

Hi everyone.

Still no doc's. This is really starting to irritate me. I feel so left out. :guilty:

Continuing our earlier gas price talks. I hadn't really looked since yesterday morning and then it was still $2.40, I'd settle for that now. So, I'm driving home from work and nearly have a heart attack. My gas station is $2.76 a gallon and DH's is $2.96, it will be over $3.00 by the weekend. We need a cap on the gas prices. I know they were saying that prices would probably go down after Labor Day, but that was before Katrina (boo!), now who knows when they'll go down.

Later everyone,
Emily

Hi all!! Gas prices here in the foothills went from 2.59 yesterday to a whopping 2.99 today!! And guess what?? We are DRIVING to Port Canaveral! :earseek:

Not to change the awful subject of gas prices, but I was wondering - How many of you adults are planning to dress up on Pirate night?? I bought DH a pirate costume from Wal-Mart today and he needs reassurance that others will be dressing up too! He doesn't trust me!!

Is anyone staying at the Doubletree the night before?

Karen

Congrats McDonnells! DH and I will probably limit our dressing to doo-rags. Maybe our hidden Micky tropical outfits. DD wants to be Pirate Minnie. Still haven't figured that one out, so...

TTFN. W.

DH and I are not actually going to wear costumes for Pirate night...but I did buy him a pirate hat with hair...which is hillarious since he is bald! I am wearing a gothic looking shaw and a pirate hat as well.

Hello everyone,

Well, I think I come in second for gas prices (second to Brad, that is). I filled up at $2.66 this AM (had half a tank, but knew they'd go up), and when I drove home, the gas at that station was priced at $3.09. Depressing. I was watching FOX news and they said Ohio's gas prices went up 50% today, NC at 30%... I stopped listening. We're the heartland, John, Lisa, Missy (sillymemaw?), Donna (ragdoll) - how can they do this to us? ;) I hope they go down after Labor Day. I highly support the notion that people start carpooling; unfortunately, I don't work with anyone that also lives in my town.

Anyways, do not expect me to do the doc dance until Wednesday or Thursday of next - TA is currently in Alaska, if you recall from my 29,762 posts on Tuesday. :rotfl:

DSis is at an Indians game tonight with a client, so I'm watching (no laughs) So You Think You Can Dance. Hmmm, was that one of the ones I said I would NOT watch? Ooops. :confused3

nursegardener Karen (we need your number or last name initial so we can keep you three apart!), I think it's great that your DH is dressing up. I can't justify spending more money on pirate clothes or tropical attire, so I think we'll be sporting the bandanas from DCL. I will not laugh at anyone who dresses up; I may "borrow" parts of your outfit though so I don't feel left out! DSis' idea of tropical attire per our conversation a couple of nights ago: "I'm wearing a white shirt with a red cover up." :rotfl2: Ummmmm colorful? Yes. Tropical? I don't sink so.

Lisa (10yrann) - glad you came back. Hope I didn't bully you too much! Anyways, you are NOT too late on the magnetic door signs. I will put you down for ONE DIS meets reminder sign. PM me so I know how many, names, blah blah blah (the details are in post 1250 on page 84 of the thread). Any other takers on the door signs? And the cost has officially hit $3.00 for magnetic door signs. Hopefully that $3.00 cost will not produce the riots that the $3.00 gas prices have.

I think that's it for me. It turned out to be quite nice here today. And forgive my selfishness (in light of the LA, Miss, AL tragedies), but has anyone seen the far-out satelites of storms in the Atlantic? If so, how are we looking? Still praying for those hit hard.

Cabin count (for the DIS reminder pages): here's the list I have for who hasn't confirmed.

goofyboots – 1
MSWint – 1
sweetsue – 1
imlazer - 1
Frank and Lola - 1
batc – 3
lds0191 - 1
PaulMC80 – 1
virginiafamily – 1
plutojudy - 1
fsubigdogs - 1
depomas - 1
deege - 2 (friends traveling also - are they DISers on this list?)
constanze - 3? (are the two other couples you were traveling with DISers already on this list?)
Teddyreed - 1?
summerdays - 1
bethannp - 1
tybus - 1?

In case you are wondering why I care about this, I want to include EVERYONE in the DIS meets, and the best way to do that is to print off the reminder signs. However, if you don't want one or don't need one (like Missy), it would be great of you to let me know so I don't waste the ink or paper! Thanks, friends!

And for the record, don't feel afraid to say you don't want one. Missy said she didn't want one and I only cried for 5 hours.

Hi I'm staying at the Doubletree Castle the night after the cruise. I got a special of $60.00 a night. I hope it is a nice place, does anyone know? My mom finally got their birth certificates. Thank God I don't have to worry about that now. My husband's car broke down today so now we have only the gas guzzlers so I'm a bit upset. :guilty:

When I called about our overdue documents, I requested the PLA dining rotation which the CM put on our ressie and the other cabins linked to ours.
I also discovered that the 9 of us will not be seated at one table :confused3
We will have a table of 6 & 4 close together -- a little added drama when dealing with in-laws.

My DD (10) was a pirate last year for halloween so we went to the costume store this week but they were just putting out there Halloween costumes. The only one out of the box was a teenager bare-midriff -- no thanks.

I am not opposed to dressing as a pirate if I come across the right costume.

Not to be the voice of doom, but it is good to be aware so we can stay on top of this:

At least 10 U.S. Airports face closure due to jet fuel shortage

Yeah, I just read that on the main board...
I guess it'll just be a waiting game for us.

So Karen, you may end up better off then the rest of us who are planning on flying! Sure, you may spend a bit more in gas, but hey, at least you know you'll get there!!! And to your other question, We're staying at the Holiday Inn in Cocoa Beach the night before and 2 nights after, but last time (in '03) we stayed at Doubletree and loved it. (I assume you mean Cocoa Beach Doubletree).

Jenny: The satellite shows Lee (which they're not expecting to do much) and 2 others not far behind that they are watching carefully. *sigh*
Again, just a waiting game. Could go any which way at this point.

Good night all!
-Christal
