Sept 17 2005 Magic - am i alone on the ship?

Hello. We are a small family of 3 going on a first-time ever cruise. Has anyone stayed on deck 7? How long does it take to check-in if you already have a room #? What activities are available for 5 yr-olds?
Any help and info would be greatly appreciated.

Having problems with smilies too. Had the same problem yesterday too.

Virginiafamily, welcome to the Flip Floppin Castaways (FFC)!! Glad you're joining us. Deck 7 is really nice, that's where we were last time. There's plenty for your 5 year old to do: kid's club, pools, a Disney ship is a kid of any ages dream come true. Check in doesn't take too long, maybe 10 min., it's the line that takes the longest. Where there's Disney, there's a line.

For more info about us (FFC) find Donaldsgal and Jennat's posts and look in their signatures to links for all the info you'll ever need.

If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask us. We always answer.

Welcome aboard,
Emily

Welcome Mark & family and Virginia family. As you can tell, we are all very, very excited for our upcoming vacation. Glad you said hi. I read the boards before our cruise last year, but never posted. I'm so glad I have this year.

A 5 year olds' paradise--girl or boy? If a girl, bring princess dresses/dress up clothes; if a boy, go ahead and bring the Buzz light-year costume. :)

They will get to meet and greet the characters, get photos with them, get autographs, go to a character breakfast, play games with them in the Kids' Club, and the Kids' Club is the BEST! My DD4 still talks abt her counselors in the club. Plus, ping pong, shuffleboard, putting contests, etc etc etc. Wonderful entertainment, blah, blah, blah. I'd suggest buying the Passporter Guide to the Disney Cruise Line. It will really help fill-in the blanks.

You can get it on Amazon or directly on the passporter dot com website.

We are also a family of 3 and last year was our first ever cruise and we had such a great time we are doing it again! Please keep talking and asking questions -- no question is too simple or silly to ask!

Welcome A-Board. (boy, do I crack myself up!)

Wendy

The main concern about our DD is how much fun will she have at the
kid club? My DH and I are looking forward to alittle quiet time(without
DD) but don't want her getting board. My husband and I are going on
this cruise without knowing anyone and hope to find some families with
children to get to know.

Hi all, just checking in on my lunch break!

Welcome Virginia Family:

We are a family of 3 with a 5-year old going on the cruise, too! The Oceaneer Club (on Deck 5) has many different kinds of activities for 5-year olds, we are hoping our DS will get daring and do some activities without us. If you go on the Disney Cruise website, go under My Disney Cruise and enter your confirmation. You can book your shore excursions and also sign up your child for the Kid's Club. I was told there is normally a large line at the Kid's Club sign-up at the cruise terminal, so that way you can have this completed and pass up the line.
What dinner time do you have- early or late?

Please check out the Flip Flopping Castaway information (any of Jennat's postings have the information link), we are all going to meet up when we arrive on the cruise and that way it will be more fun for us small families, too.

Donald's Gal- could you include us on the cabin tour. We won't have our cabin assignment until we get on the ship, otherwise I would PM it to you.

Pam

Also, Tea for Wendy:

We are looking forward to hanging out with some fellow Missourians! Are you big Cardinals or Rams fans?

Virginiafamily, my youngest daughter was 5 on our last (first) cruise and she had a blast in the Oceaneer's Club. Most nights, one of us had to leave in the middle of dinner to take her and her older brother to the club. There were many times we were ready to pick them up and they didn't want to leave. Unless she falls on either end of the quiet and shy/loud and rambunctious spectrum, she will probably love her time in the club.

Well, you can tour mine if you want but I'm in a Cat. 11 and it wil be a mess because the housekeeper (me) is going on vacation that week. My cabin is the different configure eleven,5509 and 5513 on floor 5. Is anyone else on floor 5? Please tell me it is a good floor to be on.

Lorra

We are in a Cat 11 also, on deck 7. My understanding is that the Cat 11's on deck 5 are aligned 'fore & aft' as opposed to all other cat 11's which are aligned 'port & starboard'. It would be interesting to see the difference in the room layouts.

We are assigned to late seating. We only made our reservation less than a month ago. We were going to WDW but I had surgery 2 weeks ago and my DH thought we should go on a cruise instead. And I am the biggest disney fan and would never go on any ship but disney. I hope its all I hope it will be, my family has never been on any cruise before.

Welcome aboard Mark and Virginiafamily........

You will love this vacation! We used to be huge Disney World fans too. Three years ago we did a land and sea.........now we just skip the land part and go for the sea. You are in for the time of your lives. There will seem to be so much to plan for, take it all in, it will all fall into place! I agree about reading the passporter, it just helps to get you more fired up.

Welcome aboard Mark and Virginiafamily!!! This is our first Disney Cruise, but we love going on Cruises and Disney - so we figure we can't go wrong on this one!

tracyl921 - you are a life saver! Thank you for the tip on getting early seating! I called my TA and got her on it and now we are in early seating as well! Hip-Hip-Horray!!!!!! I didn't think we could ever make the late seeting with both me and the baby passing out at 8PM!

Jen - the website looks fantastic!!! Very impressive job! Thank you for all your work!

Glad to hear there is a good chance to book Palo once on board. That sounds like a fun experience.

Not much new here. Anna's birthday party this weekend is now looking like around 60 people. DH keeps having to run back to Sams for supplies. We just have to survive this weekend and it is restful time to get ready for vacation....Yeah!

I am so amazed at those who can prepare everything so early! I am a more last min. gal myself. DH would plan months in advance, so together we balance out well. I had to learn early not to think outloud about things I wanted to do in the upcomming months because DH hears it and does it now. Great quality!!!! But one that still baffels me...smile. I have no idea of what size I will be by cruise time...I just know it is certian it will not be smaller...lol...hopefully I can pull together enough to make it out of the cabin...smile. Luckily, having the two babies so close together I still have maternity stuff in my closet.

Speaking of cabins, we are interested in doing the Cabin tour. We are in 6102, it is a room with a veranda. Mom and Bill may let us peek into theirs as well. It is right across the hall a regular interior room. Just know now that it will probably be a wreck but I am OK with that. I figure we are checking out the rooms and layout and not how much stuff is taking over the room. We will have a crib in there as well so it will be cramped and I can accept that...smile.

Ok, that's about all I have to type. I am excited the countdown tickers are getting so close!!!!!

Also, I forget who asked, but the smiles are not all showing up on my computer today either. I think it must be the web site.

We have Late Seating, also.

We have been on other Cruise Lines and Disney, by far, outshines them. The rooms are much larger, the food is wonderful and your 5-year old will love seeing the Disney Characters. Our son loved our dining servers (which you have the same servers each evening): they would cut up his food, make sure he was pampered and tried to put ketchup on everything he ate. We have photos of our son & Mickey Mouse sitting next to the Mickey pool on lawnchairs on our last Disney cruise.

Some of the Oceaneer kids activities are they make Flubber, play pirates, tea parties. There is computers and our son loved playing the Toy Story games. The Disney characters visit there, also.

Disney private island, Castaway Cay, has a neat kid's section. The kids can dig for "dinosaur bones" and go excavating, plus the Kids Club Counselors have activities planned on Castaway Cay, as well.

I highly recommend booking your shore excursions now, as they tend to sell out more frequently since they are offered online. The Passporter book someone else suggested is excellent in regards to rating the shore excursions and explaining all that the Disney Magic offers. Since it is your first cruise, I would definitely get the book.

Hello! Jen I love the web-site! I am going to try to send a photo today. I still have not found a dress for formal night. Hopefully this weekend I will find one. I also have to get my ds a new suit. He outgrew the one he wore last time so I added that to my list of things to find. I may have to do some of my shopping online. Is anyone else planning on doing the dolphin excursion?? Or has anyone done it in the past? I will check in later!!-Donna

Where in VA are you from? I am from VA too! Up until March when I moved.

Karen - KD

Donna, we wanted to do the dolphin excursion, but for a family of 6, it would have been over $1K; we just couldn't bear to spend that much! Maybe some day when we are empty-nesters... when the kids can pay their own way. :o)

Karen

4kidsandadog - How was 6102? Was it a nice room/location? I have been trying to find a report on it with no luck...how great you have stayed there!

Just lost my post!!!! :rotfl:

Welcome Mark, Kelly and Savannah!!!

You'll find we're a fun group!! :goodvibes

Whew just got in from working boy oh boy is it hot outside!!!!! :sunny:

Jenny you can put us down for the cabin tour there will be either 3 or 5 of us there.

Haven't done the shopping thing yet...that will take me some energy with this group!! :rotfl:

Still don't have our room number yet!! Very frustrating know we're in a Cat 6 and that's it..does anyone know when they possibly tell you what room number???

Karen I feel like you do I try and try and then I eat something...got to start all over again!! I'm at a point that we just go and have a GREAT time!!

My boss asked me today if I was ready for our cruise next month I told him no does that mean you want to give me some company time off to get ready?? :rotfl: Needless to say he didn't agree..bummer!!!

Have a great Thursday everyone!!! :flower:

I posted a question about the St. Maarten Dolphin Encounter last month and someone was nice enough to tell me all about it. I was having trouble quoting it in this message- do a search for Dolphin excursions and you should see a thread for St. Maarten Dolphin Excursion.

Hope that works...
