Sept 17 2005 Magic - am i alone on the ship?

We have 1st seating.

Tammy, I think you can go ahead and book it now and then when we go on the cruise they can "cancel" your ressie, rebook it (same room and everything) and you get the discounts. I'd like to do that.

A dining request is just that, a request. Those with young children do tend to get the early seating and also to get the APL rotation, starting out in Animator's. I have requested early dining and the PLA rotation, mainly b/c Animator's is my least fav. restaurant and Parrot Cay my favorite and this would give me 3 nights in PC -- not to mention PC on Pirate night and Lumiere's on formal night. A lot of people like to be in Lumiere's on formal night b/c it's the fanciest atmosphere of the 3. We were in PC on formal night last year and I loved it! So...really you are in good shape regardless of your rotation. I just think a lot of people request PLA b/c of the formal night/pirate night connection, so a lot probably won't get it...

"... except for Jenny and Wendy (and any other FFC people who had a specific rotation)." Wendy meant to add that to her post. :rotfl:

We have second seating...first was no longer available by the time we booked. My DD hopes that once on board that she can change it because DGS will never last that long. If not then we'll just have to make the best of it. :goodvibes I personally like the second seating for DH and myself but not with young kids, like this cruise. :earseek: Just have to wait and see :earsboy:

Hello everyone :dog:
Wow it seems like the time is flying by now. I watched part one of the Soveriegn of the Seas refurbishment last night on Travel Channel and it really got me in the mood for cruising. Steve and I were talking the other day about doing another RCI cruise next year (hint: Jen ;) ) because we have the RCI Visa and should have lots of points by next fall. Since I haven't been on DCL yet I'm not sure about rebooking with them so we shall see. This dinning rotation thing sound confusing to me. So to answer Jenny's question: we are wait listed for early (hoping we get it) and I didn't know you could request a rotation so I don't know what we have yet. Can you find that out before you board the ship or do you just have to wait until then?

Karen- I am sure it is hard not having made friends yet. Hang in there. Aroung here there are home schooling groups that meet for field trips and P.E.
Maybe you could find a similar group out there and make friends that way. And remember the cruise is just around the corner.

Jenny- I had never heard of the walk to Emmaus but it sounds really nice. I would love to attend one some time. Good luck on the worship leading.

Well, boys are spending the night at g'parents' house so Steve and I are driving down to Paducah for a "date". Going to eat at Olive Garden, mmmmmm... my favorite. Have a good weekend all.

On dining rotations, more than likely if it is just adults, you'll have LAP. Families with young kids get APL and families with older kids get PLA. So confusing isn't it?

Really hoping we get to do that 10 night cruise next year. It will be cool to sail on the Wonder. Never have since they only have 3 & 4 day cruises.

Everyone want to know what I think? I think they're getting the Wonder adjusted to longer travel because...they're finally getting a new ship. THIS IS JUST MY SPECULATION, NOT TRUTH!!! Makes sense doesn't it?

Later everyone,
Emily

As you all can see I asked my wife out on a date and she ACCEPTED WOOO HOOOO... :Pinkbounc :bounce: :cheer2: :cool1:

Brad - Good to see you stop in and say hi. It really helps so you can remember where you last read to. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Of course I forget to look at the page number and even if I did I would probably forget the number.

As Trisha said we are wait listed for early seating and it would be nice if we get it, but I don't think that our kids will have to much problem with late seating. If they are not eating with us I am sure they would be at the kids club bouncing of the walls until late which calculates into sleeping in most mornings. :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc We shall see when the time comes. Not to worried about it because we are going to have fun no matter what. .... :cool1: :bitelip: :teeth:

Does anyone know if they have seatbelts on the chairs in the dining rooms so we can buckle our kids in.. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: might have to bring some extra duct tape... :rotfl: :rotfl:

Everyone have a great weekend and God bless

Hi everyone, just posting before I go home for the weekend. Probably won't post much this weekend. Don't know what all we have to do, but will be busy, always are on the weekend. Talk to everyone on Monday.

Steve & Brad, see I'm posting also so I know where I have to read from. :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Jenny, good luck this weekend. I've heard of Emmaus walks. When I was Methodist, several people in the church went on them. You'll do fine.

Have a great weekend everyone,
Emily

We are still in second seating and wait listed for first. I was surprised that first seating was full when we booked in December 2004 and thought we would be moved after the final payment deadline. Second seating will be something different and I am already trying to psych DW up for it by quoting Disboard polls showing the majority prefering second seating. We typically eat late because we are on the go, go, go with activities so it will not be a problem with DD(10) and DD (5-6).

Like most, I hope for the PLA rotation just as TeaforWendy explained.

For all of you waitlisted for early seating, late seating IS great!

Just got back from class. It's a class on counseling adolescents. We had a guest speaker - 14 years old - who was diagnosed with a brain tumor in January. One week she jogged 1.5 miles, the next week she had two of the less severe mal seizures and then had a grand mal seizure. The docs thought it was malignant and went in to do a 6-8 hour surgery. 4 or 5 hours in, they called out to her parents to say it's not cancer. The tumor was the size of a lemon. So they decide, though, that since the tumor is not shrinking, they need to go in and get it all. They set her up for a second brain surgery. Just hours before the surgery is to start, the fire alarms go off and they have to delay. Turns out, in that delay, that the docs discover she was on a blood thinner and had they operated, she could very easily have bled to death on the table. This was on a Friday. They had to wait two days. In those two days, they took more tests and discovered the tumor HAD shrank! How amazing! And now she's doing so much better. Just shows the power of God in our lives. It was amazing. The courageous girl had written out her speech and really broke down when she started to read it, so her mom read her speech, but she answered our questions. It was a really neat experience. Her dad, little sister, and mom were there with her. What a neat family - so strong.

Anyways, this just goes to show you how resilient adolescents are and how incredibly strong they can be. And it was neat to meet a girl who has been on my church's prayer list for 7 months.

Have a good night all! I'm off to get some food, read my book, and head to bed!

We had late seating on our first cruise. I kind of liked it because we got to see the shows first, but sometimes it did make it a little hard on the younger ones. Even though my kids are night owls, they were so busy on the cruise that they were ready to konk out during or shortly after dinner. Or they rushed through their dinner and we had to get up in the middle of ours to take them to the club. A few times Joel fell asleep during dinner and when we would take Halle and Noah to the club, they'd just make a pallet for him in a quiet spot so we could leave him. So your kids don't have to be awake to be there! This time we have early; we'll see how it goes.

Rotations: we were in Parrot Cay first, so that put us in Lumiere's for formal night. Worked out well. I'm looking forward to seeing if our old servers, Matej and Chris are still there; I know Javeen, the head server, is... I've seen pictures of him posted by recent cruisers.

We have 2nd seating which we always prefer. I like the extra time in the afternoon.
I can definitely see that it would be harder on youger kids though. Last time we were in Lumiere's on formal night. I would like that again but who knows how that will all work out. I went shopping today but didn't have alot of luck. I wish we had a real mall here :sad1: Tomorrow we are going to the base to make "Welcome Home" banners. So probably won't get to shop again until Sunday.---Donna

We have late dinner seating as well. When we booked last October we were given early by our TA, but we made the choice to change it. That confused me that someone was told it was booked up before that :confused3 ? We have had early seating on our two previous Disney Cruises but thought we would try something new. The two youngest in our group are 7 1/2 so they should be fine with the late hours. I always felt kinda rushed for the early times........slirpping down my boat drink by the pool to hurry and get a shower, what a life  .

I have not even thought of shopping yet for this trip. I usually have spent hundreds of dollars by now finding the perfect "everything". I am very excited, but for some reason not willing to loosen the purse strings just yet. Maybe reading these boards has replaced my spending excitement.

Donna I missed where your husband is? Not in North Carolina with you? Sorry I missed a couple days.

Goodnight all,

Missy

Missy,
He is in Iraq, this has been my first experience with a long deployment. Thankfully, it is almost over. Tony got an email from Bo, he is looking forward to meeting him. Like you said in your email, usually by now I have most of the shopping done too. I just booked this cruise last week so I am not as prepared. I think you will like the late seating. -Donna

Jenny, what a bueatiful story  shows children are stronger than we give them credit for. :wizard:

College's here start on the 24th and with two going in ooh la la...way to much money :teeth: so getting everything set up for that is taking first priority. I'll probably be the one waiting till the last minute to get everything I need in the clothes department. But with our weight loss challenge that might work out well.. :wizard: By the way did everyone weigh in??? I've lost about 15 pounds total, but have a lot to go. :earseek:

DD went with her cousin and DGM to St. Augustine for the weekend...girls weekend of beach and shopping before school starts. Hope it stays sunny for them :sunny:

Hope all is well with everyone and have a great weekend

Donna.......sorry for missing that. I bet you all are counting the days. What a great vacation for all of you. The perfect mix of family time and alone time. Where are you from originally? I assume you are left in that little town with no family and no mall. LOL I have been there, I know there is not much! Good looking men (and boys) in uniforms, which can be nice at times.

Bo is excited as well to meet Tony!

Missy

Hey all, Just checking in. Nothing exciting going on here. Working on a project on the computer. I went yesterday and bought the cutest 2 outfits for the cruise, so you can all ohhhh and ahhhh later :rotfl2: I don't have much to say :earseek: :faint: .
Donna, What do you do and what little town are you in? Sorry if you have already told me :confused3 Just curious.
Take care everyone.
We are on second seating, requesting first. I wouldn't care (the kids will be fine) but how is the night life when you are eating until 10?

Well, if the kids want to be in the clubs, there is plenty to do after 10pm. All of the adult-only parties start going after 2nd seating. There were plenty of nights we were all ready for bed not long after dinner, anyway.

I am originally from Jacksonville, FL but my dh is stationed at Camp LeJeune in Jacksonville, NC. I am a respiratory therapist but I have not been working. There is a very small mall here but I rarely go there. We live about an hour and a half from Wilmington so sometimes I will shop there. I have heard Raleigh has good malls and probably will try to go there. (3hrs) We have 1 yr left here. More than likely we will go back to the Norfolk VA area after school ends next summer. He will have 2 yrs there and he can retire!! I can't wait. Although we still have not figured out exactly where we would like to retire too. I'm sure a lot will depend on where the best job opportunity is. -Donna
