Sept 17 2005 Magic - am i alone on the ship?

Okay, lots to catch up on.

Christal, I'm sorry to hear about your coworker (and your client's daughter, Jen). For a while in high school/college I was paranoid about having a brain aneurysim because I knew 3 people who had them, 2 who died. It just scared me. Brain stuff is no fun.

Goofyboots, WELCOME WELCOME WELCOME!!! Refer to post 1071 for info on door signs if ya want 'em.

Tracy, I never met you before but I'm glad to know you're cruising with us. Ragdoll (Donna), lovely to have another Ohioan on board with us (Missyoh8 - Missy from Columbus, jmcdonnell04 - John from Cincy, me - Jenny from Ashland, about an hour south of you, and ksumom - Susan's - mom, sister and niece(s)/nephew(s) from Columbus. We're representing the great Buckeye state, or as our plates use to say, The Heart of it All.

Oh, and for a recap, I am making reminder signs (1 per stateroom) to, well, remind us of all the meets. These will not be magnetic, but I decided to punch a hole in the top and give everyone a suction cup with a hook hanging off to hang the sign on a wall, mirror, verandah door, etc. I figured that was better than handing people a piece of paper that would get lost amidst all of DCL's "less important" documentation. :rotfl: The meets thus far are:
Sat 3 PM Mickey pool, deck 9
Sun 1 PM atrium lobby deck 3 for cabin tour (we'd love to have both genders equally represented ;))
Wed 4/4:30-6 stateroom 8080, which belongs to sweetsue and is a birthday party for her in one of the suites! Woo hoo!

Wendy, how was Phoebe's party?

Sue, I hope work is going okay and your grandma is doing better.

Tammy, how was the party? Or is that this weekend? I forget.

Hi to everyone else! I dont' like naming names because then I feel bad when I forget. So, hi to one and all!

This weekend is the last weekend for class. Been having a class Friday nights 6-9 and Saturdays from 8:30-1. Get a weekend off, and then start up again with a new class. Also have a class from 8:30-3:30 Sept 12-16 - I'll be REAAAAAAAAA-DYYYYYYYYYYYY for the cruise after that week. During the weekend off (next weekend), DMom, DSis (who's crusing with me), and I are going to a state park nearby and renting a luxury cabin. Hot tub on the deck, full kitchen, A/C, loft, grill, all kitchen stuff supplied. Can't wait!

Okay, tried to keep it brief. How'd I do? Wait. Don't answer that. :)

Tammy1, did you get my email? You sent me a list of your cabin occupants and Brittany's name was spelled BrittIany. Just wanted to make sure I got that right, and wasn't sure you got the message because my email was crazy this week.

I don't like posting 3 times in a row, but I just read the hurricane threads and now I'm discouraged. :guilty:

I KNEW we were going to be cruising in Hurricane season, and I KNEW that another active year was predicted. Okay, I can deal with that. I really, REALLY want to see St. John and CC, but breathe Jenny - it will be okay.

So I made my peace with that, and then I read the threads (saw Emily and Missy posting their experiences :)), and now I'm bummed. I was sort of hoping that I could rely on the forecasters being wrong (as they sometimes/often are - no offense). Anyways, someone said they were posting the same prediction for this year as last. So now I'm thinking, well, what if we can't get there? What if it gets cancelled? I DEFINITELY don't like the idea of a shorter-than-what-we-booked cruise, but I can deal with that because i still get to cruise, see new places, and enjoy the ocean. But if it's cancelled altogether, that's a big downer.

So, FFCers, cheer me up! Tell me you're all fasting and praying for no hurricanes and we'll be the cruise that sails in between the 3-5 major ones that are supposed to hit. Tell me I'll still have fun even if the cruise is shortened. Tell me cruising in September is risky but that people have gone on more than 2 or 3 cruises in Sept and only had one changed. Whisper sweet Disney nothings in my ear, friends! :( It just almost makes me ill to think I've planned since Feb to have it all vanish before my eyes.

Jenny,

Here's a bit of encouragement... my parents cruised last year during the second hurricane and they didn't get to hit any islands but the cruise was extended a few days... so hey... a whole 7-10 days aboard the Disny Magic we could possibly do everything on board!! Possibly even upgrades from those who cancel... but come H@11 or high water we're CRUISING!!!! :cool1:

Oh, when I rebooked last year on the shortened Sept. 27th Wonder cruise I knew this could be a possibility but I figured it wouldn't strike me twice in two years. So we are not going to say the H word again on this board. Wishful thinking! Wishful thinking! Wishful thinking! I refuse to make my mother in law happy by us having a bad vacation, her being right about cruising in September when the kids should be in school. Yup, that is how she acts. So no more H word please! Sorry, just carrying on now.

Okay, so much for me posting more often, and keeping up with ya'll. This week has been a hum-dinger of a dilly whopper!! But alas, tomorrow, oops today is Friday the last work day.
All is well here in Hoosierland. DW grandma is out of the hospital.(a great blessing) Otherwise not much news. No news is good news though.

We are flying in on Friday(thanks again missy), staying with relatives and heading to port early Sat. morning.
Welcome to goofyboots, glad to have you aboard.
No party time for us either. Usually in bed by 10 or 11 on the cruise. I am trying to get switched to early seating, with no luck so far. I could not believe that all of early was booked in Nov.'04. The idea of finishing dinner around 10-10:15, me no likey.

Jen- shoot me a copy of that list too please. baward2@juno.com

Alrighty, need to get off to bed. Talk to ya'll later.

BRAD

Welcome to our little cruise thread Goofyboots. We also have a DS who is 7 and going in the 2nd grade. He is quite athletic and kind of a smarty pants at times (he's is the baby of 3). He never liked the clubs much but we a hoping we can move him up and he will go this time!

Hey to everyone and TGIF to all who are at work (some of us are off until late August lol)

Missy

Hello to the new folks... man, forget to check in for a day and you miss a lot!

Are we the only ones with early seating for dinner?? We couldn't get early seating last time and Joel kept falling asleep in his dinner, or falling asleep at the club while we finished our dinner. I can't wait to see if we like early better than late or not.

I'm not going to worry about the "H" word.... we have insurance. And if something happens while we're out on the water, I'm hoping we get one of the extended cruises like last year. Sea days are my favorite anyhow... that's why we book the Eastern; 2 sea days in a row!

Kids and I are going to the first showing of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory today. Anyone else planning on catching it?

Karen

Well T.G.I.F to everyone who is working and those of us who are not :cool1:

It's a working day for us here :teeth: and then I get to do the final preperations for tomorrow :rotfl: :rotfl:

SILaw had to stop by last night to say so sorry she couldn't help with her parents 50th Anniversary tomorrow :teeth: But no problem things hit us all at different and difficult times  (But there are five of them :rotfl: and it seems to be hitting four of the five :rotfl: ) oh well..you just have to roll with the flow :) got to keep it possitive :goodvibes I'm sure everything will get done and all will be well :wizard: :wizard:

I too LOVE the sea days

Take care all

I have found myself going back more than once to figure people and kids out.

I mentioned to Jen in a PM that exchanging cell phone numbers might not be a bad idea. A few of us had them last year and then.........turned out we really needed them! It was fabulous to be able to share information in an unforseen situation. DCL was really not communicating well so we could at least pass on to eachother what we knew.

Thanks for doing that list Jen,

Missy

Shmora...........notice I never mentioned a "you know what" in my post. I have the same fear that if we say it....it might happen. Couldn't happen to the same people twice right? We actually, in hind sight, had a fabulous time on our tour of Florida. I think some of the reason it was so fun was that we evacuated with a family from these boards, someone we had never met. Talk about drink more than you do at home............maybe that is why we had so much fun. In any case, I feel like we made the best of what could have been a "not so fun" vacation. My kids will remember that one for the rest of their lives ("remember that time we went on DCL and mom was drunk for 3 days?". Jenny do you think we could get free counseling for them someday?)

Missy

Karen, we have the early seating also. Hitting Charlie & the Chocolate Factory at the midnight showing tonight. Can't wait to see it. Love the original, but seeing Johnny Depp as Wonka. I think this will become my new favorite.

There's nothing wrong with cruising during a hurricane. Everyone just needs to relax and not worry about it. That is why we're all taking this vacation right? And if another one does happen two years in a row, I look at it this way, another half off cruise next year. So, everyone breath, and relax, everything will be fine.

It's Friday finally. The weekend is here at last. Dad is getting a new truck this weekend and I get his Jeep. Yeah, :cheer2: I'm finally going to have something to drive.

Later everyone,
Emily

Hi all! Welcome Goofyboots! DD's party went great, but every time it thundered the kids had to sit out for 30 minutes. The pizza was late arriving so we ate cookies and opened presents first, which the kids loved. All in all a success. Ended up staying until 8pm. DD was totally exhausted. Today is DH's b-day. Going on a "date" tonight. The original Willy Wonka is one of our very favorites, all 3 of us. Own the DVD, watchit a lot, etc. So, we were going to wait and see it later with DD and see Wedding Crashers instead, but I just read it sucks and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is great, so now I'm not sure. It's not like we'd mind seeing it multi-times. DD is very excited, too.

Hurricanes. They happen. I had to cancel my entire wedding due to Floyd. Dress was stuck in Atlanta -- didn't get photos taken in it until a year later. I lived through Andrew (was living in Miami at the time) and then the Jeanne experience last year. I have stressed out abt all 3 of them, but let me tell you all the good things that happened as a result -- Andrew, we had a 3 week delay in the start of my 3rd year of law school and I spent those 3 weeks with my fiance at the time and realized that he was someone I shouldn't marry and so avoided a REAL disaster. Floyd, had to cancel Florida wedding 3 days in advance. Really avoided a disasterous family gathering -- DH and I instead hopped a plane to Hawaii and got married there, absolutely stress-free. On my wedding day, I told DH, "leave the top down". What the heck? We were in Hawaiian clothes. And, we have our very own local news story all about the cancelled wedding for posterity. (What can I say -- we have 3 local tv stations and the smallest market in the US?!) And Jeanne, got this next cruise 1/2 price. So...there really IS a silver lining in these stories. I'm scared and want it to happen, but wonder what good things will come if a hurricane does affect our cruise. And, we have a great support group already! I probably will buy ins. (haven't yet), but I'm saying -- don't worry, at least not too much. Let's just see what comes...

Wendy, That was wonderful to read, I just had to tell you :flower: your right we need to all look for the silver linning in everything :goodvibes

Welcome Goofyboots we love to chat as you can tell

I believe so!! ::MickeyMo

I know some say today. :confused3 .some say Sunday?? But people have their golden mickey mouse ears on the news today soooo..

Hi everyone-

Welcome to the board Goofyboots. Nice to have you with us.

It's still cloudy and somewhat rainy here. I keep wondering if what remains of Dennis is ever going to go away. We are heading to Holiday World on Sunday and camping Sunday and Monday night. I have feeling it is going to be hot and muggy at night with all the rain we have gotten lately. But it will be a fun trip regaurdless. We have a family reunion on Saturday and I hope the potato salad is iced well.

We are flying in Friday around 3:30pm and staying at the Pop Century. We are riding to PC with Jen on Saturday morning but haven't decided on which company yet.

Karen- I thought staying up all night playing games WAS partying! In fact, that is one of my favorite things to do.

I hope everyone has a good weekend.

We have cruised every year in Sept or October and last year was the first interupted cruise (is that what you wanted to hear Jenny :) ) although we did take off in a Tropical Depression in 2001. No biggie! I am a little worried about this also, because we are actually in Orlando/cruise for two weeks. That's just pushing it! I figure, as far as the cruise is concerned...we only have to worry about the weekends. As long as we can get on they can steer around the h******s. It was weird last year in Sept that they hit Florida, twice on a weekend. We, too, had a great time. We headed over to Marco Island and loved it. I just really don't want a shortened cruise and REALLY don't want to do western AGAIN! Might not hurt to look into excursions for Costa Maya just in case. It seems to be where you end up and it stinks if you don't know what to do there! HOT! I figure go with the flow and it will be fine either way, right Trisha, my h******e slave (I wanted to cruise later and she pressured me into Sept) I see she was right because I got to meet all of you. But that will not get her out of being my slave if a hu********hits. :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Brad, Good news about grandma!! :bounce: Glad all is well.
Jenny, You obviously need counseling over this hurricane fear. What I am trying to figure out is how you can lay on the "couch" and counsel yourself from the chair. Time to push the panic button! :rotfl2:
Sue, miss you. hopefully, you week of h*ll travel went okay. How is your grandma?
Sherrie, You still around?
Someone has to stay out late...right....Trisha?, Missy? anyone?

Anyway, Spent all morning getting the list more compiled, easier to read and updated. All you professional and amatuer proof readers be KIND! Will send it out tomorrow, so if you are waiting to send info, now is the time.

Okay, DISers, don't be mad at me for mentioning that word! In counseling, we believe that denial is more than a river in Egypt! Bad joke that everyone's heard. Anyways, talking about it made me feel better to get it out. Thanks for being understanding and reassuring. I wouldn't normally give out my cell to such a big list (cause that worries my mom) but in this instance it's a good idea. :)

Till later...

Oh, and I humbly pass off my longest post title to Jen (for the time being... we know it's only a matter of time until i rattle on and on and on and on).
