Sept 17 2005 Magic - am i alone on the ship?

Hey can someone tell me if you can take a rolling cooler on board. Here I got this thing for some adult time.. :cool1: .you know what I mean....you know who you are....Drinks anyone?? :drinking1

Then I read that you can only take on coolers that have meds in them.

Anyone ever done this??

Still getting showers from what is left of Dennis. At least everything will green up again and I will have to mow the grass again.
Do we have to wait til we get on the ship to see if we can switch our dinning times. As Jen said, we have late seating which I usually like when it is just my husband and I cruising but with the kids I think early would be better.
Jen- Way to go on getting early to walk. I don't have the discipline to get up that early to go excersize. I haven't lost anything in the last week. Oh well!

Where is Christal? Haven't heard from her in while.

Tell Steve I said he loses his manly badge if he makes his wife mow the lawn. That is sooo my husband's job or my checkbook's job...and you have seen how small our yard is!

Tammy........we always take our own adult beverages. Just take a collapsable (soft cooler) and pack it in the suitcase with all of your boat drink ingredients, beer, bottled water, etc. Unpack it in the room and your room attendant will keep everything iced down for you. The refrigerator is no good so they will usually reice for you twice a day. When you go home, assuming you have had cocktails with Missyoh8 and her husband every night you have a whole empty bag to pack your junk you have purchased! There you go......

Jen, you go girl. I have never mowed grass once in my life. I would like to say I never will......ok........I never will! One time I even watched the trash man skip my house because my husband forgot to take it out before work. Some things are just not in my job description. I have bent a little on the trash, I was pregnant when I let him pass. You made me laugh.

Talk to you soon,

Missy

I think they have a refrigerator/cooler in the room. Also, you could always take a collapsable cooler. I am going to just use the refrig in the room....and Yes I know what you are talking about :rolleyes1 ;)

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: No you made ME laugh. Letting the trash man skip your house :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: What I love is that my husband has a hard time getting all the trash out....EVERY WEEK. It is piled up in the garage and yet....last week he left the four big sleeping bag boxes that were stacked next to the trash can. "Oh I didn't know they were trash" Right, we have a lot of need for boxes with holes in both ends! That's why I love my 9 year old. His job is to take out the trash everyday (kitchen) and load the dish washer :cool1: .

My daughter lost her first tooth yesterday. It was very exciting as all her friends have lost a lot of teeth. She was sitting in the backseat saying, "I can't believe I have a lose tooth." in a quite little voice over and over. SOOOO CUUUTTTEEE! (have I told that story already..sorry)

With regard to the cooler...I was posting at the same time. Sorry, didn't see yours Missy.

OKAY, so my wife mows the lawn  I do all the weed eating which takes just as long. We have a riding lawn mower which is not that hard to do... but I appreciate everything that she does, hard or not.

Jennifer.... I could cut your lawn with a pair of scissors in about 15 minutes :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Of course I did some dishes last night and cooked dinner also.

Do I lose my manly badge for cooking dinner?????

And yes Trisha has taken out the trash and even taken it to the curb. Guess I will have to give Mike a call and tell him all about it the wonderful things my wife does and ask him if I can borrow his manly badge.. :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Ok, in Steve's defense, mowing the yard is a job I chose because we have a riding lawnmower. If we didn't it would be a different story. And the weedeating is a big job. We have a big yard that is fensed in so it takes a long time. It only takes me about 45 min. to mow the whole yard and I get to get a tan and drink a beer at the same time.
By the way, trust me, Steve deserves his manly badge.
Jen- I told him you only said that to get him to pop in and post.

Still raining here.......

Trust me when I say my husband has NEVER cooked dinner! So when I say I have never mowed the lawn.................I guess we are just very traditional in that sense. Steve you can keep your man badge........takes wife on Disney Cruise and makes dinner......hmmmmm. Almost sounds too good to be true. ;)

Riding mower and drink a cold beer.........o.k. I might do it then.

Gotta rund and make dinner :guilty: maybe drinking a beer on the riding mower would be better, what do you think Jen?

Missy

:rotfl2: Steve, :rotfl2: :rotfl2: You had me rolling on the floor. That is soooo funny and so pathetically true about my yard. I had a feeling you had a riding lawn mower (based on where you live). They don't let you own land in Colorado. Please don't call Mike. Dam_, now I am going to have to get my number changed :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Still cracking up. You get to keep your manly man badge, I have met you and you are a MAN if I have ever met one (am I out of hot water yet?)
Missy, take a look at the picture below. I think we may be married to the same man! Living a double life?
I tried to mow the grass once...it was sooooo hard (read:waaaa, waaaaa)

I just read a thread on the main board about why people lurk and don't post. It was very insightful for me.
Just for the record...if you feel if you post you have to hang out with everyone the whole cruise, you so do not! Whatever you want. Maybe just some smiling faces you wave to across the ship. Noone will expect more of you than you want to give. It is just a fun way to pass time, meet friends, and make the vacation last. On the other hand you can make lifelong friends if you are open to it ( Steve and Trisha :love2: )
The other interesting thing was about the fluff. I think when you start talking in Jan for a Sept cruise it has to go to fluff at some point...it will get back to serious cruise talk before the cruise.
Lastly, if you feel you don't fit in, or there is a core group, you are wrong. You just have to post regularly for a while so we get to know you. And we diefinately want to get to know you. Sweetsue, tammy1 and noworriesmate haven't been posting long, but posted often and we got to know them and I think they feel real comfortable now.
If you are feeling any of this, I hope you will post now. YOU ARE WELCOME HERE!

Got that off my chest. Sorry it was sooooo long. you know me!

OK, I have been talking drinks on the big board and it looks like I should be talking abt them here. I've been posting on a thread abt fruit juices as mixers and this rum vs. that rum, etc. Missy -- so how big a cooler, what do you mix the drinks in? Where do you get the booze? Do you bring glasses? What else should I know? I was thinking Parrot Bay and Crystal light would be easy and yummy. Are you taking the Disney shuttle? I know you're at the Hyatt Friday with us, should we go on a B-EE-RR-U-N? I'm the only one who drinks in our family and last year I just bought on the boat. Didn't drink much, didn't have friends b/c I was too shy to post last year! And Jen, that is why I didn't post -- I was a little freaky abt "signing up" afraid I'd get lots of junk mail and stuff, and that I wouldn't have anything to say since I was a first time cruiser. Oh well, I love posting these days, as you all know! So, strangers, please talk to us. ::MinnieMo

We currently have late seating, but I think we will try to switch. Last year we were able to switch to early and it worked out great for the kiddo and us. I would like PLA rotation, too, b/c Parrot Cay is my fav. restaurant and that way you get it 3x and I don't really like Animator's Palate (too loud), but that's another story most of you have heard...

Anyway, fill me in on the cooler, etc. stuff. Also, where & how do you pack those darn princess dresses? And what do you think abt the over-door shoe holders? If you have them where did you get and what do you recommend? What abt plug-in air freshner? Nightlights? Anything else we should be talking about? Obsessing abt? I do it oh so well....

I nixed the cupcake idea and ordered iced cookies to look like beach balls and ONE cupcake to put the candles in. I'm much better at ordering than making.

Oh yeah, at our house, DH mows until August when his allergies kick in then we hire one of the neighbor kids. He (DH) is extremely particular abt the lawn and I such at such things, so...Also, I'm not much of a cook. He's great but isn't around all that much b/c of his job on the railroad. But, we both work crazy hours so don't feel too bad abt having others do some of our household jobs. DD's rocking babysitter does most of the laundry, but I do quite a bit too. I pick up the house every night before bed, but that's not too bad with only one child and a DH who is around only intermittently. But, I can't plan or do much outside of working hours w/o the kiddo b/c of him being on call all the time -- means I don't have much alone time and am alone with our DD a lot -- Not complaining, I love it, but it's sometimes a frustrating schedule. We can't plan weekend activities with others if they don't understand that DH can get called out at anytime, etc. I end up doing more with my single mom friends than with my married friends -- at least on the weekends. So, a lot of rambling to say I don't mow! No way I could get the lines straight enough to satisfy my DH. :)

Well, I better go see how the fruit juice friends are doing.

hi everyone,

sorry it has been so long, everytime i've got near the computer one kid or the other has screamed as the three of us (DH is away for the week and thus escaped) have been fighting a flu with conjunctivitus thingy  (please excuse spelling)

Missy we've only been here about three months and don't know that many of the pilots yet, but i will keep an eye out for them :magnify:

Steve you actually gain Manly points for cooking dinner, and stay even for the lawn since it is a ride-on mower.

i must admit DH doen't mow ours - we get a guy in. the dishwasher does the dishes. i do 90% of the washing. most of the cooking and who needs cleaning if you collect enough dust you just claim it is a sand pit...
one cooking method i do love in the cooler weather is the BBQ now that is always a mans job (and a break for me). :teeth:

Tammy hope your big party goes well and if you feel yourself getting too stressed just test the jello shots. :drinking1

we are late dining but are waitlisted for early.

ok so now one nappy change and a baby feed later where was i...

oh yes dining, i suppose the time makes little difference to us we can adjust the kids to suit when we arrive, and as long as we get fed i'm not picky about the rotation.

Jen i've read that thread as well and agree with you 100% and you did all make us feel very welcome. :grouphug:

Wendy i understand the alone time thing totally. we are in a very similar boat, in theory i get me time when the kids nap - in practise i nap too. there are no single mums across here, but at least we are in a street full of airline wives so we are all in the same boat.

umm boat, ship... Jenny i share your obsession! as i think we all do.
we are counting the days... hours... minutes... soon it has to be soon...

anyway must run time to feed DS (again)

OK... you guys have been busy!!!

We're late seating for dinner, and PLA from what I remember WAAAAAAAAAY back when I requested dining rotations. Guess I'll find out when the Docs get here!! :cool1:

I've actually been posting since before this thread started... just don't seem to have enough time to keep up sometimes!! So you guys might have to repeat stuff every so often!! No feeling of being "trapped" with ya all on the boat, actually looking forward to making some new friends!! :Pinkbounc

Has anyone with teens signed up for the Wildside Excursion yet? I had trouble with the room my oldest DD is in and wasn't able to make excursion ressies till yesterday. Just curious if it's full now or they haven't started signing up for it yet. :confused3

Thanks!!

ksumom that really was a while ago!

we only booked in May (this may that is) - and for us that was forward planning! :rotfl2:

We're looking into booking a 2nd cruise next Sept. with DH's family. I haven't even been on my 1st Disney Cruise and we're already thinking of doing another one!! Although, that's only 13 months out, so I'd better get cracking!! :rotfl:

We have a rental van for our group of 11.......so no we are not taking the DCL bus. You could probably take Crystal Light on the plane (no chance of spillage there). I know you can take alcohol on the flight as well. While I enjoy
Parrtot Bay........I am preferrable to the Captain ( he loves to go cruising with me), that would be Captain Morgan to you. He loves to travel so much these days he comes in a plastic bottle. Parrot Bay might come ready for travel in a plastic bottle as well? If I were you I would just take it with you if you are taking the bus. I am not the only drinker in my group, so we will have to make a stop on the way to the port, we will come stocked with a top shelf bar (lol not quite). My husband and I like sitting on the verandah at night and having a few, to be honest, it is just easier to bring our own.

I always take a thing to hang on the door. It is not a shoe hanger, but I got it from Bendel's years ago, it is for toiletries and then rolls up and ties. I take it everywhere we go on vacation, but I think it is most needed here. Get a shoe holder thing if you are a neat freak for sure.

No air freshener needed for us, no night light either. We just leave one of the bathroom lights on and draw the door most of the way and well, I have never had any smell issues. Lysol is always helpful, as I am a bit of a germ-a-phobe.

I think that was it,
Missy

I can't help with the drink issue... we aren't drinkers. (I guess that helps have money for other stuff, doesn't it??) I have to confess, that is probably one reason I don't post a whole lot; my family seems a bit tamer in the entertainment department than most of you. On our last cruise, we found ourselves mostly sitting and watching the stuff going on in the adult lounges, rather than participating. Partiers we are not (unless staying up past midnight playing board games counts, and that's not something to do on the cruise).

I just reread this and it sounds like a downer post; I don't mean it to be. Guess I'm still in a post-move funk. This place still isn't "home" yet.

Jason & I plan on taking alcohol with us. Not much though. Just enough for me and him, parents don't drink. Since there are free drink floating around at deck parties and other events and we don't really want to pay 15% gratuity on a $3.00 bottle of beer. Just bringing enough to fill in between the freebies.

So you can carry it in your carry on? I was going to get a soft cooler, will do that anyways, but would be much more comfortable if I knew it was with me where it won't get broken.

We're going to rebook onboard for the 9/16/06 Castaway Double Scoop Cruise. Not sure which Cat. yet, either 3 or 4. 3 hopefully. Missy, I guess we'll be talking to each other for the next year. With a year to go until that one I might go crazy by then.

Later everyone,
Emily
